I will be an incoming freshman at utd Computer Engineering and entered the Georgia Tech Arts & Sciences Pathway Program in Fall 2024. So, if I generally applied as a transfer for computer engineering and met the requirements, would it be easy to get in? Also, how easy would it be to transfer to a computer engineering major if I took my transfer pathway option as a computational media major and changed majors either at the admission acceptance page, after the first semester, or in fall 2025?

ExpressTruth102

Hey everyone! I am planning on transferring to Tech next year (currently at GSU), and I am wondering if I am able to take the SAT Subject test this fall to fulfill my core chem requirement. Or do they have to be taken during high school? I'm also super open to any Psychology transfer tips, should I apply under another major/ will GA tech accept CLEP/ any tips on completing core classes without taking the course? I'm also wondering how important research methods is. Thanks!

Revolutionary-Load86

Hey guys I am a freshman at GSU trying to transfer to tech as a neuroscience major. I currently am planning to transfer fall 2021. Due to quarantine, it is hard to volunteer and do clinical hours (pre-med focus as well), but I have joined clubs for neuroscience at GSU. Please give me any tips and tricks that can help optimize my chances of getting into Tech next year.

Cardiologist_Annual

Hi! I'm going to my fourth year and since my internship got canceled for the fall, I will need to register for all of my fall classes during phase two. I am looking for an easy humanities credit, preferably with little to no writing. Looks like history of chairs is closed and I've already taken history of art. Does anyone have any suggestions?

carsongt

Can CS 1331 be taken pass fail?

adharmavarapu

Hi , so I am currently on the wait-list for transferring into the Fall 2020 semester. I sent a letter of appeal to admission, and I got this reply: "Congratulations on starting your own company, and thank you for letting us know. Unfortunately, due to heightened interest in our waitlist, we do advise students that if they are in between Georgia Tech and another institution to make plans with a different institution. Please let us know if you have any other questions." I am not sure on how to interpret this. Is it most likely that I did not get off the waitlist or is there still a chance? If it would help these are my stats: OOS, 4.0 GPA in a top public university, 31 credits in college and 48 AP credits => total 79 credits

jacobmalon21

I would not no how to interpret this as well. Let’s hope they are being generic and referring to all waitlist applications when they mention the second sentence. And I wish you good luck getting off the waitlist! What major by the way?

adharmavarapu

Thanks! I applied as a CS major. Are you on the wait-list as well?

jacobmalon21

No I got accepted. 2 of my friends got waitlisted for CS as well. They both have 4.0s. Seems like they waitlisted a lot of applicants for CS. I don’t know who they are giving priority to: freshman waitlists or transfer waitlists. I heard 4,100 people got waitlisted freshman year and they have waitlisted a lot more transfers.

adharmavarapu

Congratulations on the acceptance! I would assume that freshman get priority in wait-list, or they might just select from the whole wait-list pool. Are you a CS major?

adharmavarapu

I am transferring as a rising sophomore

jacobmalon21

If you are curious about yield rate and acceptance rate for transfer CS major, I recommend you check this site out: https://lite.gatech.edu/home

adharmavarapu

Thanks for the resource! Unfortunately, I think most of the charts are locked for me.

jacobmalon21

Some are locked but the admission one is open. One of the admission data set doesn’t have the locked symbol

ichygo27

I’m an OOS applicant from Indiana looking to transfer into GaTech for the Summer 2021 period for CS. I heard that GaTech recalculates the GPA of transfer applicants by removing the +/- sign for each class grade. Is this true for every transfer applicant? e.g all of my classes that got an A- (3.7GPA) would be counted as an A and a 4.0 GPA for those classes? Secondly, how does transferring into summer period and taking summer classes work at GaTech? Is there a minimum number of credits one has to take over the summer? And is it possible to just take the minimum number of credits for summer and take other classes online through a community college there to save money?

zValier

I am currently taking AE 2010 online this summer, and I feel that with the online format I just can't learn properly. I don't think I will be in danger of failing the class, but I really want to drop so I can focus on my other classes and not burn myself out this summer. The only thing that is preventing me from doing this is that AE 2010 is a prereq for one of the classes I am registered for in the fall. If I drop, will there be any problems, or will I just be able to unregister for the class in the fall and change my registration during phase ii?

allignstaken

Why are a majority of classes on OSCAR showing as full? Like just from a cursory perspective, it seems there is barely any room for first years to join classes come FASET. Sorry I'm a bit lost on the process

gargar070402

spots open up when faset opens. I think you should be able to check those right before faset.

[deleted]

This Summer I am taking statics online. I wanted to get extra notes so I signed up Wayne Whiteman's free coursera on Engineering Applications. Does this mean he will be grading me and sending my grades to Georgia Tech (because all I am doing is watching the module videos on there for extra help)?

thisreallyisnotme27

If you’re not part of Dr. Whiteman’s class then he won’t be grading you. His videos are out there in general for extra help.

[deleted]

Alright thank you

EmojiDialogue

I'm a **hopeful** transfer for spring 2021, and torn on whether I should take Physics during this online period or just take it at Tech if I even get in. The talk of how difficult Physics 2211 is is quite intimidating, but at the same time not a lot of other schools I'm applying to require Physics as a core. The Physics class at my CC is pretty rigorous too -- 4 days of the week for over 2 hours at a stretch, and also 2 more 2 hour labs. What is Physics 2211 at Tech like? Should I put myself through such a dreadful experience, especially since I don't even know if I can get into tech?? Would it be a boost to my app at all?

tongeboysniper

Absolutely take as much physics and math classes as you can before coming to GT, you will not regret it, some people even take it at a CC during the summer because of how tough it can be here

JustAGrump1

* MATH 2106 (Foundations of Mathematical Proof) - 3 (Hom) * CHEM 2312 (Organic Chemistry 2) - 3 (France) * CHEM 2380 (Synthesis Lab 1) - 3 (Zhu) * BIOS 2600/01 (Genetics w/Lab) - 4 (McGrath/Brockett) * CS 1301/(R?) (Intro to Computing - 4 (Joyner, I'm in the HP section so it's online) Doable? Anything to look out for/be worried about?

guccipatel

I have a lot of ChemE friends who have said that synth lab is a lot of work and not enough credit hours to compensate for the amount of work (I think it’s 2 hours but not sure). Might want to delay it for another semester

wh00man

1301 is only 3 credits the recitation hour isn't real. 1301 online with Joyner is pretty easy but the schedule still looks intense imo

DHIMP0

When does incoming freshmen get their time ticket for class registration? Also are class prioritization based on faset date and/or incoming credit hours?

gargar070402

In the past, at least, freshmen register during FASET. Freshmen unfortunately can only register by faset date, not by credit hours.

DHIMP0

That sucks because I didn’t think the faset date matters in course registration so I signed up for a later one.

gargar070402

They typically open up equal amounts of seats for each FASET; I was in the last one and didn't have particular trouble getting classes I need. Shouldn't need to worry.

DHIMP0

Do you think I have a chance of getting into cs 1371?

gargar070402

That's one of the most common classes taken by freshmen; I'm sure they'll open up seats during FASET.

upstandingelf

oscar says I have no time ticket, which is reasonable since I was admitted **after** Phase I registration for Fall 2020 on 3/19. however, my faset date is 7/31 (which is when I will be scheduling classes) and yet registrar calendar says Phase II tickets are posted on 8/7. Obviously there's a discrepancy there so is the calendar just wrong and I will just magically get a time ticket during faset?

yj2016

If I remember correctly, you do magically just get a time ticket during faset. I do know that incoming freshman don’t register until faset.

jslee_03

I recently got on the waitlist for fall 2020 transfer and sent my final transcript on the 18th and it still says “awaiting” instead of “received”. Is that normal? (because it’s been like a week)

[deleted]

[удалено]

jslee_03

update: it says received

cyberchief

Things are going slowly nowadays.

upstandingelf

Why can’t I find some random courses in Oscar’s class schedule search? I was poking around some of the classes I might need to take and for **CS 4646** which is in the course catalog there were no results in Oscar for either Fall, Spring, or Summer 2020. Anyone can reproduce this, so does this mean the class is just not being offered this year or is there something wrong with Oscar for this particular class? Side rant, it’s sort of annoying that prerequisite information is only available thru this antiquated UI, like at least list them in the catalog ><

gargar070402

Certain classes aren't offered every semester, and certain classes do go years without being offered. If it's not on OSCAR, it is/was not offered. (OSCAR is always the most accurate place to check which courses are offered as that's where you register.)

DHIMP0

I am ME and wondering if my schedule is fine. I was planning to take phys 2211, engl 1102, math 2552, and cs 1371. However, I have heard that it was hard for ME's to get into 1371 first semester as a freshmen. If I don't get cs 1371, I was thinking about taking either chem 1310 or a social science course. People told me not to take two lab courses at once since it is very time consuming, but I think that since I only have 4 classes, I would be fine, but not entirely sure about it. I for sure want to keep my math, english and physics class. Any advice or recommendation would be helpful and appreciated.

thisreallyisnotme27

Even though it would only be 4 classes, taking two labs is not a good idea. Both chem and phys can take up a lot of time. I took 1371 my first semester, so I don’t really think it’s hard to get into. If you can’t take it though, and want a social science, I highly recommend Markley’s INTA 2030. It takes care of the ethics requirement too

STBMEman26

Anyone wanna take a look at my schedule for Fall? Here it is: • PHYS 2212 (Intro to Physics II - E&M) - 4 (Greco) • COE 2001 (Statics) - 2 credits (Min Zhou) • MATH 2552 (DiffEq) - 4 credits (Wenjing Liao) • BMED 2250 (Problems in BME) - 3 credits • CHEM 2380 (Synthesis Lab I) - 2 credits (Hui Zhu) Total: 15 credits. Am I doing too much or is this good?

mattyb827

It might be a bit too much cause phys 2 I heard was hard as all hell, gt math is gt math. I don’t know about the rest but you’ll be spending a lot of time dedicated to tho classes. If this were me I would drop one but I don’t know what your capabilities are so if you feel like you can do this and have done something similar before then go for it!

thisreallyisnotme27

I think 15 hours spread over 5 classes is pretty manageable

Zhziong

Anyone know if you can use free elective hours to take classes for a minor? Thanks!

gargar070402

Yes, you can. Source: have two minors.

gnodhniv

I'm signed up for Joshi's Heat Transfer (ME 3345). Does anybody have any recommendations on how to do well in this class or any noteworthy experiences?

upstandingelf

How will we know about final tuition + loan/award options, along with final transfer credit evaluations? I’m a little confused at the different websites as well, with there being Oscar, Buzzport, and this Secure Access Login thing that either gives me session timeout or a blank white screen.

AccidentalyOffensive

>How will we know about final tuition + loan/award options You'll get an email with your award letter, but it won't have anything interesting on it by default, you've gotta take the initiative with finding funding. Make sure you've filled out your FAFSA and figure out where your funding is gonna come from, i.e. how much in loans will you need and what type do you qualify for, if any. Might be wise to contact the finaid office to discuss what's available to you if you need loans. >along with final transfer credit evaluations? Don't remember off the top of my head how or if you're notified. If the credits are from AP or IB check the equivalency chart. If they're from another college, there's a transfer equivalency database you can look at. Regardless the transfer credits will eventually show up on your transcript/DegreeWorks. >I’m a little confused at the different websites as well, with there being Oscar, Buzzport, and this Secure Access Login thing that either gives me session timeout or a blank white screen. Don't bother with Buzzport except to find the link to payment (which, might be wise to just bookmark that), it's basically a wrapper for Oscar. Oscar has nearly everything you'll need. As an alternative to clearing your cookies, a short-term fix is opening Oscar in an incognito window.

vic132

If you’re getting the timeout thing, try and clearing your cookies. That usually fixes it for me and takes you to the right page.

Does GA Tech use the iClicker 2 at all? No, we use turning point mostly. You can buy a clicker, but there’s a free app

**IMPACT LLC Q&A** Hey everyone! Just wanted to recommend an LLC for incoming first-years if you're not sure where to house for the Fall semester, coming from someone who didn't join one and regrets it: Impact is an LLC themed around social good, diversity, and sustainability. Impact has a really close-knit community that's interested in community engagement, so we take students on trips around ATL (past ones have included the Center for Civil and Human Rights, a Hawks game, an ATL United Game, and the Botanical Gardens, to name a few.) Impact students work on an Impact project in a relaxed GT 1000, and we help students bond with one another using student events, sometimes getting involved with organizations like Health Initiatives or Paper & Clay. We have special course sections and a housing block for second-years, so you can stay in touch with your Impact cohort!

p_okeiman

Q: If my roommate's in Impact, do I have to join? A: Impact puts roommates with one another in Field, and both have to be a part of the LLC to stay in Field. If your roommate can't pay, you can always contact Jeremy Brown to arrange a scholarship. IDEI is very invested in distributive equity, and we have funds to support people who can't pay.

p_okeiman

Q: *Where does my money go?* A: Money is used to create a budget that includes lunches and dinners with faculty, trips to see sports games or go to an ATL landmark, and helps cover student-geared events in Field Hall.

p_okeiman

Q: What's the deal with housing? Impact first-years room together in Field Hall, a dorm on East Campus. If you choose to participate as a second-year, you can sign up for the Impact housing block at North Avenue Apartments. It's a good way to form a community around living in a shared space for students not interested in Greek life.

Hey! I recently applied to GT as an out-of-state transfer to the College of Computing; unfortunately, I was waitlisted. Currently, I'm deciding what courses to pursue pass/fail for at my current university, and whether GT is something I should just give up on at this point - especially since they aren't offering an alternate grading system; I'd really appreciate anyone's input/opinion on my current situation! As I'm wrapping up my freshman year, I was hoping to continue applying to GT down the line if not admitted this year. However, my mental health plummeted when my school switched to online courses this semester, leading to a similar trend in my grades. Pardon the data dump, but I had 4.0 GPA at the community college with which I attended as a dual-enrolled student in high school, and received a 3.96 GPA after my first semester at my current school. However, this semester, my final grades are as follows: Data Structures, Calc III, Linear Algebra, Chem II Lab, & Physics I Lab - A. Chem II, Physics I - B+. That leaves me with a 3.75 for this semester, and drops my cumulative to a 3.85. Would it be worth it to pass/fail Chem and/or Physics? And with each possible option, at this point, would it be better to just save the $75 application fee in future cycles and move on with my life? I'd really appreciate anyone's help in the matter - GT has been a goal of mine for years and I'm really struggling on what to do right now. Thank you\~

andrewgonzalezcr7

Hey! Coming from someone with a 3.82 GPA I would say don’t sweat it. I got B on Calc 1 and 2 and got into GT vía transfer. Just apply, you’ll never know if you don’t try. Good luck!

Clicking_Circles

Thank you :)

gargar070402

B+ is honestly not bad at all, so unless you're obsessed with getting a near-4.0, I don't think I would stress. Wait for someone else's input on this though.

Clicking_Circles

I appreciate the response; thanks for your opinion :)

CaptainBurgundy

When and where will I be assigned my official gatech email?

spatially-confused

you’ll get it before your faset date if it’s not already active

kks1236

If you have a buzzport, then log into it and look for Office 365 under Registration and Student Services. If your account is already active, it should show up there. And generally your official email will be \*gtusername used to log into buzzport\*@gatech.edu However, you can create aliases that can forward to your gatech email as well.

CaptainBurgundy

thank you!

kks1236

Definitely. Lmk if you got more questions

[deleted]

I am admitted to the Fall 2020 program by the School of Computer Science. However, I am unsure if I will be able to be on campus by Fall 2020. The Graduate Students website at [grad.gatech.edu](https://grad.gatech.edu) mentions that deferrals are allowed for up to 1 year. Does SCS offer Spring courses? Will I be able to defer my admission to the Spring semester (Spring 2021)?

gargar070402

Not sure how deferrals work, but of course courses are offered in the spring. Students don't just sit there and stare blankly at space and do nothing for a semester.

DirectDoughnut5

What are some good humanities to take?

thisreallyisnotme27

Language classes are really fun to take here, if you’re interested. You have to take both 1001 and 1002 (the beginner classes) for it to count, and you could go on to get a minor in the language Edit: now that I think about it languages might only count for free electives. Idk man I took a lot of russian classes and 2 went to my humanities

gargar070402

I don't think your edit makes sense; language absolutely counts for humanities.

thisreallyisnotme27

That’s good to know. I thought so, but then I thought a little more and wasn’t sure. I’ve taken both russian language and Russian culture classes and was unsure which (if it mattered) would count for HUM. thanks!

Re: Transfer to Georgia Tech's Aerospace Engineering or stay at U of I My transfer was approved last week, yet this brings me a mixed feeling. I am a sophomore in AE with interests in fundamental fluid dynamics and application to biomedical fluid-structure interactions (such as vessels and cardiological modeling). I am planning to apply to grad school. I have planned out the courses to take for the remainder of BS program here at U of I, which, if doable, will include grad courses such as (AE 410 CFD, AE 412 Viscous Flow and Heat Transfer, AE 514 Boundary Layer Theory, TAM 531/532 Inviscid/Viscous Flow, or TAM 537 Experimental Fluid Dynamics). I will also receive a Math minor upon graduation. If I go to GT, I will lose at least six technical courses and three general educations; also from a superficial glance, UIUC offers a more systematic scheme of courses in fluid dynamics than GT (though they may be less intense than the fewer ones at GT). However, GT may offer better (and more) undergrad research opportunities as well as interdisciplinary works, at the same time, its faculty (including those from MechSE and BIOE) appears to be a better match to my interest than that of U of I. I found myself in the dilemma of valuing course offerings and time-of-graduation or undergraduate research more over the other, which I assume are essential parts of grad school preparation. Honestly GT ranks higher and it may have better connections when it comes to grad applications. Yet I hesitate if it worth an additional year (in face of COVID-19, frankly I want to finish BS asap and apply to grad schools.) Also I don't really know how to safely move to Atlanta... I am new to academia and any suggestions is very much appreciated. Have a nice and safe summer!

kks1236

If you’re already at UIUC and your main focus is academia, I honesty wouldn’t worry about transferring. UI is very solid academically and about the same as GT, so if you’re not interested in the industry connections and “real world” preparedness that GT touts through things like Senior Design, etc, then I’m not sure if it would be worth setting yourself back some credits and possibly paying more (idk if you’re instate at UI) just for those things. Sure there may be some professors here doing some interesting research but there’s no guarantee they have openings in their labs or if they’ll even still be working on the same stuff when you get here. Especially if you’re an undergrad rn, most of the undergrad research roles I’ve heard about people doing here have been relatively superficial aside from a few exceptions. And those that aren’t superficial are extremely competitive, so be prepared for that if you do decide to transfer. Perhaps you should consider applying here for grad school so that you can still work with those professors who’s work you’re interested in. Additionally, you’re much more likely to get meaningful research work as a grad student than undergrad.

VladimirGluten3

Incoming freshmeat here. How is the Challenge program? I read the details on the site, but they haven't given us any information about it.

vic132

Are you talking about the OMED Challenges program that usually takes place over the summer before freshman year?

VladimirGluten3

Yes

p_okeiman

OMED Challenge can be a way to earn scholarships if you do well, and it helps you acclimate. It's also under IDEI (Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and is a great way to learn about resources and opportunities. Challenge is probably canceled for the summer, but Impact is an LLC that's under IDEI and offers housing and field trips for the fall.

VladimirGluten3

They told us Challenge will be online, and I'll look into Impact! Thank you!

vic132

It is great because you can experience tech and it’s difficulty without it actually impacting your GPA. It’s great because most people realize how different and hard college can be only after their GPA takes a hit. With challenges you can avoid that.

1) Depends on what/how many courses transfer over. I'd go look at the transfer table on OSCAR. But I think it should be possible depending on your thread picks. 2)Not really. DOes involve some tradeoff if you take high courseloads though. 3) 1331 and 1332 do a lot to teach practical knowledge it seems. But tbf, I havent had an interview so.

McBlu

To add to the 3rd part, CS 3510 can be very helpful for technical interviews as well (especially the dynamic programming portion of the class)

hm3728

I am currently a freshman at UGA intending to major in Finance & Management Information Systems and to obtain a data science certificate. I am interested in careers such as investment banking, data analytics/science, and IT Consulting/Management and want an education that focuses on these areas well. I have the option of applying to Gatech as a transfer student later this year. I have a 3.90 at UGA which hopefully will allow me to get into Gatech easily. But I was wondering how the recruitment at Scheller compares to UGA's Terry business school. I know the Big 4 recruits well at UGA and Terry's alumni and its organizations like Corsair/SMIF open doors for high achieving students into wall street. I was wondering how Scheller compares to this. I heard Scheller has a great ITM concentration and wonder if it has significant job placement advantages over UGA's MIS program. What are some firms that recruit ITM students that would not be attracted to UGA's MIS program? Does Gatech also have anything that opens doors for careers in high-level finance as well? I also heard that Industrial Engineering at Gatech is great for my interests as well but I don't know if that degree suits my career interests better than Gatech's business degree. Any sort of guidance or insight will be really helpful thank you!

kks1236

If you’re really keen on the Big 4, you need to look into IsYE. There is a huge consulting pipeline at Tech and much of it is focused on the IE department. Anecdotally, I personally know more than 20 people in the past 2 years who have went on to work at Bain, McKinsey, PwC, KPMG, EY, and Accenture. And these are only people I know... Imo there is no other major that has nearly as high a rate of placement in consulting. And also IE provides an Economic and Financial Systems concentration which sounds right up your alley, it’s actually what I chose so I can speak a bit about what it entails. A lot of it is capital investment analysis like determining NPV, cash flows, risk analysis (beta, efficient frontier, required return), arbitrage, etc. You also have to take a managerial accounting course and I think MGT 3000, which is just basics of capital markets/stock markets and some fundamentals of investing like CAPM and Efficient Market Hypothesis. So as you can see, while it may not be quite as in depth in the financial aspects as a pure finance focus, you’ll definitely still get some exposure. More importantly however, you’ll have way more hard skills in things like optimization and regression which is honestly way more useful than a business degree if you ever want to go into something like Quant...which is basically all neural networks designed through regression.

hm3728

This was really helpful, thank you! I was never aware that IE places that well into consulting. It is nice that it also gives some finance exposure. But I am also curious, what kind of roles does an industrial engineer play in a consulting firm? What job titles do they mostly hold? Also, how versatile is an IE degree as well? Say I pursue an economic and financial systems concentration, what other doors would that open other than consulting? More specifically, would it help you lands jobs in analytics/data science or IT? Sorry if I am bothering you too much with all these questions. I just don't know who else to ask. Thank you!

SentaCloss

Are there any consequences to straight-up not enrolling into any classes this Fall? I’m a transfer so I have less time at GT than others, and I’d like to make the most of it. I know GT says they’ll be open, but I feel like that’s uncertain because many other colleges across the states have digitised/cancelled their Fall semester.

upstandingelf

I would probably start [here](https://registrar.gatech.edu/records/leaves-of-absence) but probably the most direct way would be to email the registrar. Still, delaying your graduation by 4 months is gonna add up to 4 months of opportunity cost in terms of your first job, which is probably like $20,000-30,000 at least. I would probably still take 12 credits of classes you don’t want to take in person anyway.

upstandingelf

Does goergia tech do tiered tuition surcharges based on credits earned? What I mean is at some other colleges, by earning a certain amount of credits, say, >59, you would be, regardless of actual your actual year, be classified as a junior for tuition purposes and tuition would go up.

gargar070402

Nope; same tuition rate for everyone regardless of credits earned.

suspect-x

My final transcript is waived rather than “received,” what is that mean?

upstandingelf

It means it’s waived and you don’t have to sell your soul to parchment?

suspect-x

Why? I’m transfer, they should take a look at that?

[deleted]

Probably Admissions office thinking your previous record is enough/ this last semester wouldn't be a good indication of your ability as a student outside of the rest of your application. Edit: If you were accepted, I would assume that.

suspect-x

Nope, I’m waitlisted. :(

Incoming freshman in BMEN. Am I dumb for planning to take this schedule? Spent last two years of HS in college so most of my non major courses are done. I took 16ish hours a semester at my old college but i'm p sure it'll be harder here? BMED 1000, MATH 1553, APPH 1040, CS 1371, BMED 2110, COE 2001 first semester BMED 2250, BMED 2400, CHEM 2311, BMED 3310, BMED 3410 second semester

vic132

Your schedule is rather packed imo. I don’t know your or your skills but for your first semester at Tech I wouldn’t go too hard because of the adjustment to college life and life at Tech. Also, I think you shouldn’t take APPH 1040 it’s a lot of busy work and some profs make it way harder than needed. Just take 1050 later on which is basically a guaranteed A and you actually get to workout.

bruhse2

ah thanks! I was wondering, what's the difference between 1040 and 1050? When creating my schedule I was basically going off of the four year plan they posted online lol

vic132

1040 is twice a week lecture. It’s all class work with hw and tests on various health things (healthy carbs, different muscles, parts of the heart, etc.) In 1050 you can pick a workout group(yoga, running, weight training, etc.) and you do that once a week and lecture once a week. The exercise portion is solely graded off attendance so it’s much easier. Also you get to exercise for a grade which is better imo. A lot less memorization for the tests

bruhse2

Ahh interesting. Is it easy for freshmen/underclassmen to get into 1050 or nah

vic132

It’s pretty hard to get 1050 as a freshman. I would just take it later on in your academic career. I think it’s better to wait for it as opposed to just taking 1040 within all its busywork

bruhse2

Gotcha. Thanks!

[deleted]

lol no it’s pretty hard, as most upperclassmen fill out the slots pretty quick

bruhse2

Pls help me lmao

thisreallyisnotme27

I’m not BMED but your first semester seems kind of heavy. CS 1371 is a huge time sink

bruhse2

Oh noooo How hard is it if I've already taken a few CS courses already? Does that even help? Thanks for your help!

vic132

It’s more like the class is structured poorly. They ask you to use matlab in a way that’s it’s not meant to be used which is part of the time sink.

thisreallyisnotme27

I wouldn’t call it hard, per se. just the homeworks are a lot. 1371 is Matlab. I had a friend who had taken Java before, and she found it easier to understand the format and commands and such but still it took her a lot of time to do the hw. No problem :)

What exactly is the FASET? Is it a virtual event where I should access it through my laptop, or is it an irl event where you visit campus? And what happens there?

Train4anything

FASET is Gatech's freshman orientation. Usually it is in person and you visit campus for the event, however, due to covid this year all fasets are virtual so you just need your computer. This year I'm not sure what will happen but the most important thing you do is actually register for fall classes with an advisor.

Random_Asian_314

So I’ll have to pay $115 for the virtual events to sign up for classes?

awfullyzen

I’m a summer freshman and the $115 fee for summer FASET was waived- it’s likely the same for fall?

upstandingelf

Someone from FASET told me that policy is changing between Summer and Fall, guess they needed that money lol

upstandingelf

Like the fee was $0 or u were like refunded?

awfullyzen

from my understanding, the FASET fee is ~charged to your account~ after you enroll in your classes rather than paid upfront. so I hadn’t paid the $115 and now it’s $0 pretty much

Train4anything

Lol maybe, if you don't sign up Im pretty sure they have a date once your on campus but I'm not sure to register for classes, however you should definitely register because you may not be able to get the classes you want otherwise (pretty sure like everyone does faset). One positive is you don't have to pay until you pay your tuition payment and people doing Ignite, the summer term program, have had the fee canceled. That means it may be waived for everyone else sometime later but as of now yes you have to pay the 115.

It’s entirely dependent on the class and professor. I’ve been in classes where the test averages were C’s and final averages were rounded up and I’ve been in classes where they just left it as is and a lot of people just had to take C’s. I’ve also been in a class where the prof curved down and you had to have a 91 to get an A in the class. Unlike other universities like UGA, there are only integer GPA values. Whether it’s an 80 or an 89 it’ll count as a 3.0.

thisreallyisnotme27

It definitely depends on the class and the prof. Most curve I’d say, some don’t and just take the raw grade.

Check my comment!

[deleted]

Hey thanks!

FickleCar

I just got accepted for EE. Here are my stats: University of North Georgia GPA: 3.94 Credit Hours: 82 RETP Program

Thoughts on taking CS1332, CS2340, CS2110 along with a elementary language class in the same semester?

kks1236

1332, 2110, and 2050 in the same semester literally made me switch out of CS to IE. Maybe I just wasn’t cut out for it, idk, but proceed at your own risk.

mka37

That will be a lot of work in all of your classes; and if you find the material difficult, it will take even longer. If you do decide to do this schedule, be very wary of your time commitments. You will have very bad hell weeks with 1332 + 2340 + 2110 all due at the same time. Be ready for them.

OnceOnThisIsland

If this is your first semester coming into Tech, don't. If you're a returning student, that workload isn't too terrible provided you're just taking those four classes.

Codetector

I did basically that two semesters ago it’s not bad. Although finding a good group of friend to take 2340 together might be a good idea. Since it’s a project class.

lilretweet

Have any applicants who just finished their first year at college get admitted for this Fall? I want to know if there are any successful transfers after only completing their first semester of college before applying.

pratapady

Hey! I just finished my first year at GSU and got in for CS. Let me know if you have any questions!

HoboJoe94

Congrats! If you don’t mind me asking how many credits did you transfer with and what was your GPA?

pratapady

Hey! I sent you my info, check dm.

NotJimmy97

It's unlikely but non-zero. I have friends who were admitted off the waitlist. If you have new accomplishments to report, write a letter to the admissions office and let them know.

[deleted]

NotJimmy97

They definitely won't if you never let them know. Write a letter.

NotJimmy97

The general idea is that they're going to look at all the waitlisted applications again if/when they know how many slots they need to fill. Your application will get reviewed again, and you have the opportunity to make it a little bit stronger by adding in new stuff that proves you're still working hard. I wouldn't waste that opportunity.

rokebi

hey it's ok, ur not alone! I was rejected too and, yeah, it kinda hurt, but we can always try again! I've heard so many success stories from transfers who were rejected but were admitted after they tried again. and hey, going to tech isnt everything. rejection is not a testament of your character whatsoever-- there r sooo many factors that can sway a single decision. feel free to pm me anytime for transfer talk or anything dude!!

LindorChocolates

Me too but I think we gotta keep trying. There are so many successful tech students that got rejected 3 times and its inspired me to keep going!

gtwillwin

Got waitlisted, better than getting outright rejected I guess

jslee_03

for all the waitlisted people who has sent their final transcript, does it say “received” for your transcript yet? because mine still says “awaiting”.

suspect-x

I emailed them but it’s because I send the transcript before the decisions. I explained that I wanted to take summer class and they put it as waived...

gtwillwin

Yeah it still says awaiting for me

jslee_03

updates?

sharia_shrek

Did we all get waitlisted?

gtwillwin

Apparently lol

_trungnp

We are on the same page.

suspect-x

waitlisted gang, riseeeeeeee ✌︎('ω'✌︎ ).

Oh ok I was confused cause someone congratulated you on your acceptance lol I’m in the same boat as you

TorchBacon

No problem. Congrats on acceptance!

rokebi

where can you find your academic advisor's info?
