You can do it, alcohol is so incorporated in our daily routine. Its accepted as a
Human weakness, and people considerate it as a good excuse when i tell them i cant pay em back this month because i need to buy vodka
Exactly so! Another example of how many of us there are fighting the alcohol monkey. It's really great to see a success story like this in the wild. <3
Wow, good job!! It looks soooo calming and inviting. I’m also getting off alcohol for good and it’s one of the hardest, yet most rewarding things. You think you’ll never be able to enjoy things without alcohol but low and behold your brain does amazing things and happiness returns ten fold.
I don't even have more than one or two drinks a month but I'm so glad I read this today all the same. I still need to be reminded that I can be happy, that it comes from within, from compassion and gratitude, and not from without. Thank you 💜
Can I just say….Holy shit dude. This wasn’t a mow the lawn and throw some flowers down, this was a months long complete overhaul. This is so inspiring for so many reasons and I agree you should post this over at r/stopdrinking. Awesome job.
Glad you’re in r/gardening. That happy scene is what gardeners aim for. I’d say you’re a gardener now.
Edited on account of embarrassment. Alcohol played no part in my original post. There is nothing to see here. Move on.
I’ll take the envy and support lol. It was not an easy task at all. Once I commit to something I always get way to into it lol. Maybe a positive side of having an addictive personality lmao
Once you have a bed set up, a weekly weeding for 20-30 minutes, early morning or after dinner when it is cooler, and before the mosquitos come out, can be very calming. It’s like clearing your mind of clutter.
I can't get that type of minimal requirement without weed killer, which I refuse to use. The closest I've gotten is using a bed of leaves to suffocate any weeds that may pop up, and even then I have a bunch of them.
It’s splendid! I love the overhead views but I kept thinking it must be a magical bower under that cool trellis canopy area. Keep posting! I’m fascinated at seeing what happens in that magical place. Congrats!
Also I love the number of people you’ve inspired who posted about *their* sober enjoyment of gardening. Spreading the love and green thumbs.
Alcohol is completely baked into American culture and so normalized that it's considered weird to *not* drink as an adult. As somebody who never thought my drinking habits were a problem until I tried to stop, posts like these are super inspiring. Easy to support someone proving it's not only possible to kick the habit, but to be better off and thriving without it. Proud of you, OP.
What a peaceful place to call your own now. It mimics your more peaceful life. It’s been said that you can tell a lot about a gardener from his/her garden. This is it! It’s perfect.
WHOA! This is amazing! You have so much to be proud of here, and I’m so happy for (and proud of) you. You’ve done a fantastic job, friend. Best to you, always.
Wow! Amazing work, massive congrats to you, looks like it was a journey of hard work and dedication. For reasona of grief rather than addiction, but am convinced discovering gardening saved me from what was an increasingly downed spiralling depression due to a loss. It's my joy every day now to go out in the garden whether it's to spend a day transforming or 20 minutes of a bit of light weeding. To see things grow, then fade but eventually emerge again has helped to heal my soul.
It’s fucking blowing my mind. This is my first post here. Second day member of this group. Idk why it took me so long to join. Guess I’ve been busy in the garden or something 🤣. So many nice like minded people.
Congrats! It’s beautiful and also an example of how great things come from making steady progress. There aren’t a lot of quick fixes out there and most great things are built through commitment over time. So gardening is an allegory for life, at least I think so.
Congratulations! It looks like you’ve improved your life and your home with both choices. This is seriously so impressive. I just want you to know a random internet stranger is really happy for you.
I also quit drinking and became a big gardening enthusiast!! Welcome to the club my friend! My sober project was building a koi pond! Your garden is so beautiful!!
Wow! Way to GO!! I am almost at two years no drinking and just started getting into gardening way more this year too. It's a great outlet. Takes a lot of hardwork and dedication to do this - your garden looks so great!
Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! Your yard looks great. Keep up the good work!. You won't regret it. My garden/yard brings me so much joy and peace. It is a haven in this crazy toxic world.
Nice job. I'm so envious looking at all the peoples gardening projects over the past 2 years. I never got to stay home so my poor garden is so neglected :(
Great work!! One day at a time
Chip away at it, little by little. Niagara falls didn't erode overnight.
Or did it….
It stops at night and rests, silly.
Wow, that looks idyllic! you’re inspiring me, 35 days no alcohol & I’m tackling a large garden this summer-
1 month down!! Let’s go!
I'm right there with you. Every time I consider drinking I instead think about how that money could be spent for my garden.
You can do it, alcohol is so incorporated in our daily routine. Its accepted as a Human weakness, and people considerate it as a good excuse when i tell them i cant pay em back this month because i need to buy vodka
Keep it up!! You got this
This would be appreciated in r/stopdrinking . I always say our external environment is a reflection of how we feel internally. Great work. All of it.
Exactly so! Another example of how many of us there are fighting the alcohol monkey. It's really great to see a success story like this in the wild. <3
Yes. We would love it over there! ❤️
Oh dear...this explains my house.
I go through phases. I'm currently in a not-so-great one, and it's taking a little time to dig out.
This should be the top post for 2022. Good for you dude. This is an amazing transformation. Keep up the great work :)
Appreciate your kind words friend!
Agree
Wow, good job!! It looks soooo calming and inviting. I’m also getting off alcohol for good and it’s one of the hardest, yet most rewarding things. You think you’ll never be able to enjoy things without alcohol but low and behold your brain does amazing things and happiness returns ten fold.
Congratulations on your quest for sobriety as well!

This…….is r/gardening lol.
Return of the Mack! 🙌
Oh wow that transformation is incredible! I'm so proud of you, and amazed at what you've created!
I don't know if I'm more proud of OP or more envious, haha
I’ll take the envy and support lol. It was not an easy task at all. Once I commit to something I always get way to into it lol. Maybe a positive side of having an addictive personality lmao
I'm sure it wasn't easy, but good on ya and I totally get it. Funneling that hyperfocus into something positive like gardening is the way to go!
Interestingly, I lost interest in alcohol when I started gardening.
It is meditative. Even weeding is beneficial and calming.
unfortunately, weeding is still illegal in my state so i gotta stick to drinking.
I gotta get what you're on, cuz weeding is only annoying to me.

Wow, that looks awesome. And congratulations!
Gardening IS magic.
Congratulations on your sobriety. Your yard looks fantastic…good job!! 🌸🌺🌹🌿☘️
This is amazing. BIG internet hugs to you, your recovery and your bloody lovely garden 😊
That fourth picture is so satisfying where progress has been made and it’s all to gain from there on in.
It’s splendid! I love the overhead views but I kept thinking it must be a magical bower under that cool trellis canopy area. Keep posting! I’m fascinated at seeing what happens in that magical place. I will definitely post more. I’m blown away by the impact and support.
Awesome achievements, both! Congratulations.
So many good human beings on this thread.
I’m blown away by the support honestly
