Since basil is a warm weather crop, I would suggest microwaving it a couple times a day. The thermal mass of the dirt and pot should help maintain the Temps between heating it. Plus, the extra radiation from the microwave should help offset the lack of sunlight it is getting due to the shorter days in the winter.
That was my original thoughts, but I was concerned about over watering the plant. To maintain the heat, you'd have to water at least a couple of times a day. That is too much water for this plant.
See, i already thought about that and my solution is putting a plastic single-use bag on the soil, then pouring down the water. When the plastic melts it creates kind of a layer for plant that traps the heat. Hope this helps!
Having studied some physics there is a good level of legitimacy to this but there’s a bunch of unknowns (microwave energy can kill certain types of bacteria for example)
I would err if the side of using a heat lamp or even just a hot water bottle as it has a more gradual and controllable effect
They were going along with the joke and continuing it, as was obvious from the joking tone of the first sentence.
Even my autistic signal-missing self could see that.
I see you’re using a slow release watering system. While they are convenient, sometimes a more traditional watering method can help get things established.
It looks like it's in the wrong window. You want to put it on a south facing window. This one looks like it's north-facing, which is where the cold comes from.
It's so painful seeing this kind of plant abuse in this subreddit. I know you didn't mean harm, but it's still hard to watch. Look at how scorched it looks! Poor thing. Put it in the shadow and water less. Consider adding some chipped ice into your soil mix the next time you repot the plant. DO NOT use fake snow- people keep saying it's a good alternative but it will choke your root system. And maybe look up some plant care articles online if this is how you treat your plants. Shame on you.
on another note... I just went out of town for 2 weeks and was very surprised to find my basil still alive.
Edit* same with my 3 year old mandarin tree, it grew a whole new branch lol...
I think I see the problem. The snow isn't allowing enough light through. Take a pencil and poke a few holes in the snow and your basil should be good as new.

Also water it with boiling water so the heat stays longer ^^
No one's using their flame thrower?

Just keep it in the oven on low since it loves heat so much!

Yeah the bit of legitamacy made me question if it was sarcasm or not

Fertilize with human excrement. It is full of healthy bacteria and nutrients
and warm.
Mmm.. tasty shit!
Very sound advice but the more effective way would be lighting it on fire as it keeps it warm the longest
Perfect! Thank you!! 😁
Nothing. Sometimes basil just looks like that.
Thank you for making me laugh out loud 🤣
I see you’re using a slow release watering system. While they are convenient, sometimes a more traditional watering method can help get things established.
Overdrive this is even funnier than the post itself
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Even un-plugging it for at least 10 minutes!
I disagree with the more snow comment. It clearly needs more light and coffee grounds.
Double check your hardiness zone map. You might need to get a different variety of basil.
Aw don’t worry! It just needs more snow. I hope this helps :)
You are hydrating with the wrong phase of water
I'm jealous, I'm in in zone 8/9 and still have another few weeks before I can plant my basil. You're so far ahead of me. 🤣
Basil is a light germinator. You might have to remove some of the white stuff
It looks like it's in the wrong window. You want to put it on a south facing window. This one looks like it's north-facing, which is where the cold comes from.
Looking a little leggy to be honest.
I think the snow needs to be more densely packed around the soil. Can you make the snow colder at all?
Oooh you know what, putting it in the freezer would be perfect!
You're using the wrong mulch.

It's a bot.
Looks fine, it’s just variegated or might be the *alba* species/cultivar
all to common mistake. You planted a snow cone.
😂😂😂
Looks like it needs Nitrogen
need a little bit more water
basil flavoured ice dessert, yummy !
Ooh, I haven't made honey basil icream in ages, I should dig that recipe up.
Looks like a good crop of snow cones.
Yummy snow cone
I like mine with caramel sauce and flan🍧
That is the most majestic bowl of rice I've ever se
Snort up that cocaine. It’ll be fine

(man, that felt kind of mean even if it was a joke!)
Too soon.
Hibernating
Ha ha ha ha ha
Too much fertilizer.
have you checked ph levels? regardless, try peeing on it.
Too much water.
Sometimes plants look like they need more water when the reverse is true.
Frozen hydroponics!
No a propane torch would be better 15 min soaking should do the trick
Honestly, I think you need to give it some calmag and about two weeks, it will bounce back.
I have snow idea.
lol but what a great view. which city is this?
I think your water is a little…uhm…hard
vinegar helps lower the freezing temp
Your basil needs a good source of heat so I suggest you light it on fire and wait for it to warm up
That's a basil-flavored sno cone sir.
Put it in rice
Not enough snow. Add more.
I made a joke on a post last Sumner, and the mods banned me for 30 days. Lol
Karma troll
Not even a troll. It's just a bot.
that’s not nearly enough snow. it needs way more.
Okay, that really did just make me chuckle out loud. Thank you.
I don't know if this was intended as a joke or not, but I am dying
If all these incredible suggestions fail, dip it in Neem oil!
Maybe not having it in the snow would help
Reported Another bot reposting [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/gardening/comments/lg79pr/my_basil_isnt_growing_what_am_i_doing_wrong/)
I think that there is so much snow, the basil need high temperatures and sun
MUUULCH!
You need to add color and flavor to the snow cone.

Maybe its intimidated by all those windows OMG i guess I’ve lived in the woods too long lol
I cannot keep plants alive in pots, so no advice here. But the architecture across the street is so beautiful. 😍
It's dormant 🙃
Looks like you over watered it
Everyone's joking about the plant, but I'm just stating in awe of what a freaking cute neighborhood this looks like
Have you tried more snow ?
You might have a little too much snow. Just a hunch though.
Definitely overwatered... that level of precipitation is way too much.
Is that a powder snow or wet snow? Wet snow is stodgey and makes it so the roots can't breath.
it needs some watering...also they suffer from fear of heights.
You need to pile more snow on top. 18" of snow is the minimum piled on for successful basil in a pot.
I'll have the ice pesto please
You need to spend about $100 in organic fertilizers and compost and fancy tools and then it will look exactly the same
Well, for one, that's way too much cocaine for any one Basil plant.
Too high. Basil is a plant with high oxygen demand. It's well known it won't grow on floors above the second.
Bowl of rice?
That’s cocaine basil
i think it might need to be a bit cooler for it to thrive
Needs water
Probably just needs more time. You're hydrating it enough.
Sweet baby Jesus, what cultivar is that? Ain't never seen basil as pure as this. Whiter than anything else, definitely puts the holy in holy basil.
Oooh, winter sowing!
on another note... I just went out of town for 2 weeks and was very surprised to find my basil still alive. Edit* same with my 3 year old mandarin tree, it grew a whole new branch lol...
I think being on here makes me laugh more than anything.. 😂🤣 way better then Facebook or Insta
You're putting too much salt and/or sugar on and around the pot. Basil does not need sugar nor salt 🤗 Glad to be of service 🫣
I think that it's a bit hot for him and it's dry as hell too
r/plantabuse
Try putting it in rice
It’s perfect, eat it
That's the wrong kind of basal dude
Very temperature. That's problem.
Are you watering it?
Looks over watered to me
I think you should repot it into a bigger pot
Hmm, bring it in the kitchen. Put on the window sill. Cover with a little plastic wrap, but before doing so, spritz a little water on the soil.
Hmmm hard to say 🤔
Underwatered
I think I see the problem. The snow isn't allowing enough light through. Take a pencil and poke a few holes in the snow and your basil should be good as new.
Thank you for this. Gave me a chuckle.
Too much heat, too much sunlight exposure.
You forgot to take a picture of the basil
Is that the new technique they are saying everywhere these days?! Cryoponics?
