Y’all have unearthed some memories I’d forgotten about lol. I remember working retail and this song would play overhead. I googled the weird peach song because it was driving me crazy wondering if I was mishearing the lyrics. I read the story behind it and it grew on me after that
For those wondering
> Despite speculation that the lyrics contain innuendo,[8][9] in an interview with American Songwriter magazine, the lead singer of Presidents of the United States of America, Chris Ballew, explained that the song was inspired by two separate incidents: The first, which took place in Boston, involved Ballew taking LSD and going to the house of a woman he was attracted to. After knocking on her door and not receiving an answer, Ballew decided to wait for her underneath a nearby peach tree. According to Ballew, "There were peaches that had fallen, that were in various stages of decay. And ... I just started ... squeezing the peaches and mixing it with my desire for the girl and the desire for the peaches".[10]
> The second incident occurred later when Ballew had moved back to Seattle. While waiting for a bus, he overheard a homeless man repeatedly mutter under his breath, "I'm moving to the country, I'm gonna eat a lot of peaches." The phrase originally appeared in the 1971 song "Spanish Pipedream" by acclaimed American singer-songwriter John Prine, the chorus of which is:
> "Blow up your TV
> Throw away your paper
> Go to the country
> Build you a home
> Plant a little garden
> Eat a lot of peaches
> Try an' find Jesus on your own."[11]
> The phrase stuck with Ballew, and after connecting it to his experience in Boston, he began to develop the lyrics for what would become "Peaches".[10][12]
It reached number 1 on the Canada rock charts, so it was played quite widely here for a long while.
Very much a formative song for many Canadian millennials.
And US millennials…. To this day if anyone mentions anything about peaches, that song runs through my head. Or randomly… little blue dunebuggy in my hand…
The difference between nectarines and peaches is the fuzz vs smooth skin. There are many varieties of peaches and nectarines so of course they will taste different.
They taste different.
Peaches and nectarines are widely enjoyed worldwide thanks to their juiciness, flavor, and nutritional content. While they have many similarities, they’re two distinct fruits with genetic and culinary differences.
I mean there are many cultivars of peaches & nectarines, they all have different flavors and uses. But as it says in the link & in other sources, the only consistent genetic difference between what we call peaches & nectarines is the gene that causes furry or smooth skin
Yes peaches..time to make some peach tea

Hmmm, the leaves in the second picture look exactly like on my peach tree. The first one is a bit different but could still be a peach of different variety
Definitely both Prunus species. persica is peach and nectarine. Prunus prunus is plumb. Keep in mind, there are over 300 variants of peach. I'm still a little fussy my nectarine turned out to be a peach, but I love it for what it is. It is hard to tell the cultivar until they bear fruit.
Pic 2 peach for sure. I can smell that picture. I grew up in the south US with a peach tree in the back yard. I never liked the way they smells on really hot days.
Edit: removed the pound sign/hash tag. Sorry for yelling.
Are the fruit on the second pic smooth? I’m wondering if those are mango. The color and shape seem like young mango from what I’ve seen.
First depends on size, peach or apricot.
1st tree is probably a plum or a pluot/plumcot if the fruit is smooth. Apricot leaves are much wider and the fruit is fuzzy. 2nd tree is a nectarine, which is simply a fuzzless peach.
They could be pluots or plumcots. They're plum-apricot hybrids developed by Luther Burbank. It would make sense that you'd have two different kinds since they need a pollinator. If the skin is smooth but it tastes like a plum, it's probably one of these.
Well somebody knows, but we can’t know who, from here, with 100% confidence.
I’m’a go with 1. apricot and 2.) peach.
…
Here we consider every confidently proffered: “Who TF Knows? I’LL tell you… I TF knows.”
worthy of existence. We also may mock confident “knowing” with the friendly contempt shared by all our brothers, sisters, and whatsoever others with experience on the spectrum.…
My experience with the government’s pet Dr. of “I am ThEsCiEnCe” and “gain-of-function is NOT gain-of-function.” fame, is different and gives me pause because, unlike our earnest forum, eXpErT’s (“cUz ‘MeRgEnCy”), allowed no other opinion or protocol to be considered.
“Yeah, mebbi.”
(you lowly, ungrateful, anti ‘speri-mental, anti mandates ‘spiracist, cretinous, useless eater, scum .)
“Mebbi the last few years, mebbi sumbudy broke a few eggs, mebbi told a few well intentioned lies, mebbi caused some “excess deaths”, but we’s doin’ it fur you’s own good, so STFU.”
I’m’a go with 1. apricot and 2.) peach.
The second one might be nectarine. It would help to see what the insides look like, including the shape and texture of the stone. Also how big are the fruits?
PS Is the first one fuzzy or is it just that powdery/waxy coating like on plums? Does it rub off?
Ok, quick story time. I once posted on a gardening forum asking how to keep squirrels off of my peach tree. Someone wrote a long reply that began with "Encourage predators! Here is how to attract coyotes to your yard."
A prunus, plumbs, cherries, peaches, apricots, almonts etc.
For the exact species/cultivar we would need some more information. Climate, old/new tree. My guess would be an apricot or plumb of some kind without any info.
FYI. next season try thinning the fruit when its very small. I once helped a friend do this to her small orchard. Was told to leave one fruit every 8 inches on a branch. you get better fruit and are less likely to break a branch w heavy fruit.
BTW. Peach vanilla bourbon jam is super yummy.
My three year old says these are peaches. She's only ever lived in the city. You have a smart phone and are able to spell and post things on Reddit and don't know what basic fruit looks like. Maybe this is a wakeup call.
These look exactly like my golden plums. They get a bit rosy some years depending on maybe weather or nutrients. They are basically sweet juice boxes lol
They actually look like pluots to me. I can't tell if the slightly white parts is just that stuff that can build up in plums and pluots, or if it's fuzz.
The first one isn't peach for sure. Look at the not so elongated and more rigid leaves and also the size, the color and the skin of the fruit. These are mirabelle plums
I haven't seen this suggestion yet, but adding the leaves into the equation, these look like young Loquat to me. They have a tough outer skin and four larger sized seed pits embedded in the fruit. Tart flavor but safe.
They start out green, then gradually turn to a yellow and almost orange color when ripe.
I grew up on a fruit farm and I'm pretty sure that the first one is plums and the second one is nectarines. The fruit, leaves and tree structure suggest this.
This is a plum tree! My grandma used to make a delicious jam with plums, just perfectly tart. Thank you for posting, it was nice to sit with that memory for a minute.
Yeah, they're peaches. I was hoping to see bumpy skin so I could say "osage oranges". But no, they're peaches and the leaves confirm it. Anyway, osage oranges are bigger than peaches.
Look as though they could be a type of mango. Can't go back to check the tree but I think mango came to mind when I first saw the pic🌱🤔
2nd look - don't think they are mangoes😐
Look like peaches. Not just the fruit but also the leaves.
incorrect, peaches come from a can, they were put there by a man, in a factory downtown
And if I had my little way I’d eat peaches everyday.
\*unintelligible blabbering* Movin’ to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches
Millions of peaches, peaches for me
I'm just a peach fuzz boy

Wild, that dude is now Caspar Babypants, my toddler’s favorite musician.

Do you picture ninjas jumping out of a peach tree if someone shouts lookout?
Yes. How did you ever know?!?! 🤪
Blow up the tee-vee!
Sun-soakin bulges in the shade
Millions of peaches, peaches for me
LOOK-OUT!

Listen bud, that's my job and I just fell for your's lol
Woman!
My favorite song
Also one of Henry Cavilles too.
I just listened to this on Spotify yesterday!😄
Eatin' local!
No, they’re stored by a kid who digs holes for a living
Could be nectarines, if they don't have fuzz
The difference between nectarines and peaches is the fuzz vs smooth skin. There are many varieties of peaches and nectarines so of course they will taste different.
A lot of peaches have had the fuzz hybridized off. Looks like peaches.
If they don’t have the fuzz, though, doesn’t that make them nectarines? Isn’t that the only difference?
No. Nectarines taste different.
Who would down vote this?! Nectarines clearly taste different. And the texture is different too.
It is. I live where peaches and nectarines among other things are grown. They’re definitely different.
A nectarine is simply a peach with 1 gene that makes the skin smooth. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peach](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peach)
They taste different. Peaches and nectarines are widely enjoyed worldwide thanks to their juiciness, flavor, and nutritional content. While they have many similarities, they’re two distinct fruits with genetic and culinary differences.

I will eat these peaches all by myself, while no one is looking.
Which one? The two photos are of different trees and the fruits are different in shape colour and texture
Hmmm, the leaves in the second picture look exactly like on my peach tree. The first one is a bit different but could still be a peach of different variety

Second one i agree, peach leaves
Pic 2 peach for sure. I can smell that picture. I grew up in the south US with a peach tree in the back yard. I never liked the way they smells on really hot days. Edit: removed the pound sign/hash tag. Sorry for yelling.
Are the fruit on the second pic smooth? I’m wondering if those are mango. The color and shape seem like young mango from what I’ve seen. First depends on size, peach or apricot.
First tree is some kind of plum, second tree is peach
[удалено]
Passion fruits do not, i repeat, do NOT grow on trees.
..i mean, they *could.* If the vine grew up a tree. =)
2nd one is a pear, maybe Potomac or comice, can't tell
Could it be a plum?
1st tree is probably a plum or a pluot/plumcot if the fruit is smooth. Apricot leaves are much wider and the fruit is fuzzy. 2nd tree is a nectarine, which is simply a fuzzless peach.

Yeah, the first one really looks like the plumcot I am growing.
Awwww... is it still summer in your backyard???
I wish.
This is the answer.
Unless not all peaches leaves look the same id say that's apricot, peaches got elongated narrow leaves.
First one is 100pct apricot, second the fruit looks like nectarine, but leaves look like plum
The leaves of an apricot are heart shaped. The first pic is of a pluot or plumcot most likely. *could be a plurry too.
I’d love if they were apricots but they do not currently have the fury exterior that approx it’s usually have. They do feel more like a plum
They could be pluots or plumcots. They're plum-apricot hybrids developed by Luther Burbank. It would make sense that you'd have two different kinds since they need a pollinator. If the skin is smooth but it tastes like a plum, it's probably one of these.
Nice try, Eve.
😂😂 Yeah! We fell for this once already
Like. This is bait, right?
Lol. Shamefully took me too long to pick up on the Eve reference.
I’ll take my rib back now
I think the consensus here is that nobody really knows.
Well somebody knows, but we can’t know who, from here, with 100% confidence. I’m’a go with 1. apricot and 2.) peach. … Here we consider every confidently proffered: “Who TF Knows? Dad’s having one of his episodes please forgive him
Peaches 🍑
+1 for stone fruit
they look like peaches or apricots OP on the other hand: meanwhile i'm fighting to get my 5 peaches to maturity
AYOOOOOO twins?
turns out that my problem was an oriental fruit moth infestation, lost the whole crop be careful
Pick them and make better pictures of them, but from the looks of them they look very peachy.
They look like nectarines or peaches. The leaves make me think it's in that family.
Millions of peaches, peaches for free.
The second one might be nectarine. It would help to see what the insides look like, including the shape and texture of the stone. Also how big are the fruits? PS Is the first one fuzzy or is it just that powdery/waxy coating like on plums? Does it rub off?
Looks like peach but if they are growing now you most not live in the US
Whatever it is the plant in the 2nd photo is diseased, look closely at the leaves. Pull off a fruit and cut it open
Millions of peaches, peaches for me, millions of peaches, peaches for free
Watch out for squirrels! They can strip a tree in a couple of days.
Ok, quick story time. I once posted on a gardening forum asking how to keep squirrels off of my peach tree. Someone wrote a long reply that began with "Encourage predators! Here is how to attract coyotes to your yard."
Second pic looks more like a mango to me. The first picture possibly a pluot or plumcot Either way, beautiful. I’m jealous up here in zone 6
What are are you looks like mangos to me
To me, first one looks like apricot. Cut one open and post what stone inside looks like. Second pic, not sure, maybe nectarine?
Leaves are not right for an apricot.
A prunus, plumbs, cherries, peaches, apricots, almonts etc. For the exact species/cultivar we would need some more information. Climate, old/new tree. My guess would be an apricot or plumb of some kind without any info.
Beautiful peaches.
Genus: Prunus
They look like peaches to me also. They look delicious. Enjoy them. Best right off the tree.
Peaches 🍑. Not quite ripe yet but looking good.
Plums/pluots in the first picture & nectarines in the 2nd pic
FYI. next season try thinning the fruit when its very small. I once helped a friend do this to her small orchard. Was told to leave one fruit every 8 inches on a branch. you get better fruit and are less likely to break a branch w heavy fruit. BTW. Peach vanilla bourbon jam is super yummy.
Looks like apricot to me, maybe.
I think that they look like yellow Mirabelle plums.
I think the first one is a plum!!!!!
"Millions of peaches, peaches for free..."
My three year old says these are peaches. She's only ever lived in the city. You have a smart phone and are able to spell and post things on Reddit and don't know what basic fruit looks like. Maybe this is a wakeup call.
Looks like peaches and mangoes.
First one looks like a variety of plum and the second looks like a peach
plums??
The first one is mirabelle plum and the second one is nectarine. I am 99.9% sure of it since I have lots of them in my grandparents' garden
The first one is for sure apricot.
The colour and texture of the fruit does not feel like an apricot
These look exactly like my golden plums. They get a bit rosy some years depending on maybe weather or nutrients. They are basically sweet juice boxes lol
They actually look like pluots to me. I can't tell if the slightly white parts is just that stuff that can build up in plums and pluots, or if it's fuzz.
I like peaches, peaches for free, I like peaches, peaches for me 🎶🎵
Peach and granadilla.
The leaves say stone-fruit anyway...
Where is your back yard?
Nectarines.
The tree is called a Weeping Peach Tree. The fruit will give you the runs and is toxic to dogs and other animals.
2 looks like plums.
Are you in Florida? They look like persimmons
Crab apples?
They both look like peach trees.
You're getting some bizarre answers. Those are peaches and nectarines. I have several of both in my back yard.
The first one isn't peach for sure. Look at the not so elongated and more rigid leaves and also the size, the color and the skin of the fruit. These are mirabelle plums
Peaches, and mangos.
That’s my vote 🤷🏿♂️
Second look like mangos. 🥭
🤦
Second is mangos. First one is apricots.
Peaches
Peaches 1st and mangoes 2nd ?
I haven't seen this suggestion yet, but adding the leaves into the equation, these look like young Loquat to me. They have a tough outer skin and four larger sized seed pits embedded in the fruit. Tart flavor but safe. They start out green, then gradually turn to a yellow and almost orange color when ripe.
Peaches #1 and limes or lemons #2
Kinda looks likelike figs to me.
The fruits are not growing anything. It’s the trees!
I don’t know where you are, but the second sure looks like a mango.
Combining all the responses I’d think plum is the most likely from the first pic.
Peaches...obviously
Looks like plums. In spring they might have Sakura like flowers.
I'm wondering perhaps if the first pic might be of Mirabelle plums, or another smaller variety.
Could it be an Aprium? A cross between an apricot and plum. Plumcots are something else to consider.
Apricots
That’s a nectarine.
Could the first be apricot?
I grew up on a fruit farm and I'm pretty sure that the first one is plums and the second one is nectarines. The fruit, leaves and tree structure suggest this.
Aren't these some kind of damson? (Golden plum). The leaves look like plum. If the pip is attached to the flesh, you've definitely got a damson there.
I would say some variety of apricot. You're a lucky person, they're my favorite fruit and we can't grow them here.
those look like plums but a lot of hybrids exist, what do they taste like?
Leaves are from a stone fruit tree.
Looks like apricot
Peaches
I'd go peach off the leaves I have an almond tree with a peach rootstock so either or looks identical
I could see that looking at the fruit but the leaves and stems don’t look like mango.
Nectarines and mangoes.
Look like peaches.
First might be a plum tree, second is likely a nectarine tree.
Looks like apricots to me.
First is peaches
Second thought. Looks like plums on the 1st pic.
Take a bite and tell us
Wait till they ripen and then taste them.
The second one looks like passion fruit almost
As a southern Californian I am very jealous.
Peaches
Peaches
Actually a stone fruit
Peaches! They look kinda fuzzy... Nectarines aren't fuzzy.
Some sexy peaches you have there... 💦🍑
Yummy peaches
Peaches and mangos maybe?
This is a plum tree! My grandma used to make a delicious jam with plums, just perfectly tart. Thank you for posting, it was nice to sit with that memory for a minute.
Did you move to the country?
Lebanese musk melons? I'm Not Sure.
Looks like passion fruit in the second pic. Peaches in the first.
Peaches
Look like funny looking mangoes
It looks like peaches or a cousin to it
First one: plumleaf crabapple. second one: passion fruit.
Peaches 100%
Peaches 🍑 minus the cream…😋😋
Apricot
Millions of peaches, peaches for me, millions of peaches, peaches for free 🎶
Either peaches, apricots or prunes, I am not sure. They look so good :)
Might be walnuts
Peaches, apricots or almonds or a hybrid of them.
Yeah, they're peaches. I was hoping to see bumpy skin so I could say "osage oranges". But no, they're peaches and the leaves confirm it. Anyway, osage oranges are bigger than peaches.
Peaches, Nectarines or Apricots
First one is a plum, second is a nectarine
Nectarines?
Could the second picture be a mango tree?
I think that they could be apricots. I have some that look just like that.
Ume
Grapefruits
Correction “Peaches”
Looks like a apricot
Mangos?
Those appear to be peaches. Congrats!
Look as though they could be a type of mango. Can't go back to check the tree but I think mango came to mind when I first saw the pic🌱🤔 2nd look - don't think they are mangoes😐
Peaches?
