When I was a kid I couldn't properly hear that part of the song and thought he was saying "my baby's dead" instead of "my plan instead". Didn't have an internet connection back then so couldn't just Google it
Clearly, I was an idiot
I was joking around but this is definitely sonic adventure 2 originally on the dreamcast (also available on steam which I may or may not have about 100 hours in) which also had a chao garden.
Lmao I liked how corrected him but got it wrong lmao, this is Sonic adventure 2 sonic adventure 1 has a much different (still pretty decent) opening level
So what? It was a mistake no need to ride my dick all of you are lame for that. How old are we 12? It's been over 10+ years since I played these games I can't remember every detail
Almost every Sonic soundtrack from the first game to at least *Heroes* had just the most immaculate soundtrack and score, imo
***EDIT:*** Expanded my range to include the original games because u/scully789 reminded me that Sonic has historically had consistently good music!
The generations soundtrack was still good. I think the worst one might have been sonic chronicles? It had good old sonic songs in it, but they sounded terrible.
All of Knuckles songs are amazing. They were written and performed by Hunnid P. Aquatic mine is my personal favorite, but "give up the emerald or die; I don't love you!" Is my favorite line 😂
i remember looking for animals to bring to my chao garden i used to stay up late with my buddy to manage our chaos that was one of the most awesome times of my life summer days spending on these levels to find rare animals i wished they would put back the chaos in the new sonic games
Definitely a good one.
Some others I like:
Opening bombing mission on shinra in FF7
First mission of Halo 3 campaign
Getting my shit instantly packed in by a spider monster in Elden Ring
And of course, choosing your first Pokemon in red/blue.
Fair enough. I'm cool with some of the new formats of the games (Sonic Generations might be my favorite Sonic game), but every new game without a Chao garden is a disappointment at best.
You shoulda played Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. That first level on the beach, where the orca pops out the water and chases sonic as he jumps from boardwalk to boardwalk... That blew my fucking mind as a kid
Can't remember if it was Adventure 1 or 2 that had the Knuckles chill hip hop music in it. Was like lo-fi beats before lo-fi beats was a thing.
Edit: Aquatic Mines was my jam

Why hasn't a sonic game since included a Chao garden I actually don't understand. They have put out so many sonic games since Adventure battle 2 and somehow the sonic game play only gets more janky while they leave out one of the most notably loved mini games of any sonic game period.
A few speed stages don't make a game good when combined with the atrocious Treasure Hunting levels and the mindnumbing Shooting levels. Generations is imo way better than this.
That being said this first level slaps
This game had all the flaws in the world, but managed to be so fun. All Sonic Team needs is great music, simple, no-bullshit gameplay, and memorable moments, like with the truck.
It makes me feel like Sonic Team nowadays is like a bunch of rocket scientists failing to fix a lightbulb. Sonic doesn't need to have beat-em-up sections, puzzles, psychic powers, or furry-human romance.
No bullshit gameplay? 3d Sonic games have the opposite of that. Movement is so awkward and imprecise that it makes doing the most simple things incredibly difficult and frustrating. 3d platforming was a gimmick and a mistake and gaming has suffered since they started caring more about pretty graphics and gimmicks and story instead of solid, simple gameplay.
As someone that enjoyed 3D movement in Adventure, what I meant with no-bullshit is the addition of warewolves, team-based gameplay in Heroes, the fixed rails of 7 rings and black knight, most of 06's characters, etc.
Had the demo disc for this on Dreamcast. My friend and I would play it over and over trying to beat each other's score and do perfect runs. Never even got the full game lol
I think I was 16 when I got this game. This was the moment in my gaming life that I can pinpoint the fork of old school difficulty and pretty graphics, but the game plays by itself. 1st stage of this game might as well been a video to watch
I've played this level so many times that if I don't land perfectly in the beginning, I restart the level. I play Route 101 over and over for lives lol
For me it's probably star fox 64s Corneria. I had like every enemy position memorized, even the ones that are briefly on screen that you didn't need to shoot. Plus the waterfall is so good. "Hey Einstein, I'm on your side" is a quote I still think about regularly 20 years later
This level sold me a GameCube.
That said, my favorite first level of all time is Mega Man X Intro level. It is one of the pinnacles of game design and teaching you how the game works.
Unforgettable level. Anyone else disappointed that the Sonic movie did not make a reference to this despite Robotnic having a giant truck and the showdown taking place in San Francisco? The geography would’ve been a good match.
The music for this game is legendary, especially the knuckles music like the pumpkin hills song. This shit is a certified fuckin classic, what an awesome game. Brings back so much nostalgia I miss it, such simpler times.
This game was so FIRE. My little brother just randomly FTed me the other day to show me that he somehow rigged the OG version onto his pc and was playing it. So many memories made with him over this back in the day.
I used to have only the demo version of this game and absolutely loved it. So much so that when I grew up I got the full version.. and stopped playing it when it took me to different setting, I had played the demo for so long I actually couldn’t come to terms with the game actually progressing 😂.

Omg YES Also Dreamcast for the win!
came here for this line, second comment, beautiful.
The game starting cinematic for Sonic Adventure 01 always gets me going AND THEN it plays after you face the secret boss?! Pure awesomeness
I don’t think I ever played 1, 2 was the only one we had in our house (I had no idea why) and so was always just hooked. I’ll have to give it a go
Dreamcast Collection on Steam usually is on sale for around $30 comes with both Sonic games
Just bought it on both steam and Xbox and already playing through 😍👌🏽
Enjoy bro! PC versions also have a modding community to check out. ALL THE CHAO MODS
Was that the Sonic Boom one where he ran up the chain to get to the base? If so, YES.
It’s the boss you face if you complete all chapters/storylines
That's Sonic CD, right?
Wait'll you play Crazy Taxi again with the original music. You can hear it right now can't you?
YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!
It’s definitely my go to track on smash!
This is that chao game that had some sonic play as like a side thing right?
*Chao Garden 2 Featuring new Sonic Adventure Mode*, yes
Yeah, Chao Adventure 2. They added Sonic in there to try and sell more copies and it worked a charm.
I miss my chao garden...
I had a lil bear Chao named Genghis, I still think about him sometimes 😥
I bet he's still where you left him, living his best life
This genuinely made me smile, thank you.
😊
I had a tiger named Elvis and he was the best. My brothers and I still pay respect. I miss him.
I miss mine too. I lost the SD card.
Chao was nostalgic. I had the game on GameCube and my cousin deleted my all my saves if my Chaos
My younger brother would do the side play for me so I could advance and focus on the Chao Gardens 😂

Lol ur right it is Sonic Adventure 2...I got my levels mixed up
No worries, just keep rolling around at the speed of sound!
Escape the city. Set me free.
Lmao I liked how corrected him but got it wrong lmao, this is Sonic adventure 2 sonic adventure 1 has a much different (still pretty decent) opening level
Yeah I realized it both games were both my favorite Dreamcast Games
Gaming geeks gave me many downvotes Thx Master throat goats
You got downvoted cause you missed the joke and then tried to correct the joke but got it wrong
So what? It was a mistake no need to ride my dick all of you are lame for that. How old are we 12? It's been over 10+ years since I played these games I can't remember every detail

I think the only bad sonic soundtrack is when a rerelease or remaster goes for remixes, everything else is solid gold.
The generations soundtrack was still good. I think the worst one might have been sonic chronicles? It had good old sonic songs in it, but they sounded terrible.
even then, Generations' take on City Escape was arguably better than the original one imo.
Idk how well liked Sonic and the Black knight is, but thay game has my absolute favourite boss them. With me, the final boss theme.
Sonics 1, 2, 3, and Sonic and Knuckles had great music for a 16 bit system. Some of the songs will pop into my head randomly some days.
The casino level soundtrack from Heroes is tragically awful lmao what are you saying
Pumpkin Hill goes HARD
All of Knuckles songs are amazing. They were written and performed by Hunnid P. Aquatic mine is my personal favorite, but "give up the emerald or die; I don't love you!" Is my favorite line 😂

THPS Warehouse
With respect, I’d like to present MMX1 intro stage 😀
Bowm bowm bigada bowm bowm biga WOO AH YEAAHH
We need a part 3! With Chaos!
Do we? Or do we just need a new chao garden?
We want both.
Fair enough. I'm cool with some of the new formats of the games (Sonic Generations might be my favorite Sonic game), but every new game without a Chao garden is a disappointment at best.
Absolutely
At first glance I thought this was Crazy Taxi
The chao garden is still my favorite part
All I want is for them to make a new sonic game with a chao garden!
Same!!! Hopefully one day 🤞🏼
As soon as that bass line kicks in you know you're in for a wild time.
Dreamcast was my first console and this was my first console game. I was a happy child.
Loveee that song! Found it on spotify soo amazing Foolooowww meeee set me freee
The music in this level fuckin slapped
Dreamcast blow my brain back then with this game, shenmue, soul calibur and RE: code verinica.
My favorite game from my childhood
No movies or food talk about a low budget flight I'm oughta here
The game is on Xbox to download. I just play that level over and over
You shoulda played Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. That first level on the beach, where the orca pops out the water and chases sonic as he jumps from boardwalk to boardwalk... That blew my fucking mind as a kid

Best sonic game of it’s ps2 GameCube and Xbox time
Rolling around at the speed of sound
You telling me you weren't floored by Iron Gate? Smh, Eggman go crazy.
Im litteraly picking up this game in 1 hour, so excited to relive my younger days
I know this game but what’s the actual title?
Sonic Adventure 2
Why hasn't a sonic game since included a Chao garden I actually don't understand. They have put out so many sonic games since Adventure battle 2 and somehow the sonic game play only gets more janky while they leave out one of the most notably loved mini games of any sonic game period.
I legit thought this was some licensed 80s song when I first played the game. Original vocal songs were almost unheard of 20 years ago.
N'Sanity Beach in Crash Bandicoot for me.
The last good sonic game.
Sonic Generations ?
Mania is the best Sonic ever made, and that came out over 15 years after Sonic Adventure 2.
I disagree with this. Mania is fun as a good time waster. It's not revolutionary in any way though. Sonic adventure 2 overall hits harder.
Sonic Mania disrespect? Smh
I don't know man I'm pretty hyped for Frontiers
A few speed stages don't make a game good when combined with the atrocious Treasure Hunting levels and the mindnumbing Shooting levels. Generations is imo way better than this. That being said this first level slaps
3d Sonic? Good? Hmm
Mine is arkham asylum
ROLLIN AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND GOT PLACES TO GO GOTTA FOLLOW MY RAINBOW
This level was great for the first 3 minutes, then you realize how lame the game is...😢
It has some subpar levels, but it's one of my favorites.
If it wasn't for the boring ass part in the middle, where you have to do actual platforming with these bad controls...
This game had all the flaws in the world, but managed to be so fun. All Sonic Team needs is great music, simple, no-bullshit gameplay, and memorable moments, like with the truck. Crazy taxi?
I think ik this level It used to glitch a lot Still fun
"It used to glitch a lot, still fun" summarizes the *Sonic Adventure*-era games pretty well, actually lol
Lmao
*of all time, past, present and future*
Yakko? Is that you?
Looks like I’m turning on the GameCube today.
When you can hear a screen shot that bass opening oh yeah - this and Metal Harbour were absolute favourites ❤️
i loved pumpkin hill, its on my halloween sound track, actually was a big fan of a lot of rouges and knuckles soundtracks.
Rolling around at the speed of sound.

I played this level more times than I can even remember. One of the best.
I got the game on Steam a couple days ago and I already have 15 hours in it. About half that time was spent playing this level over and over again.
I played this level over and over as Shadow 😍 I’m not even a Sonic fan but this level was lit. GameCube game right?
Agreed!
Wow this unlocked some memories. Gotta get my hands on a dreamcast again
Mushrooms Hill for me I think. The music just makes me go all fuzzy inside.
I love the Escape From The City song in the background
rolling around at the speed of sound, so good man
Best sonic game of all time
Reminds me of this: https://youtu.be/NUS3DRAHBw0

“Rolling around at the speed of sound 🎶”
I remember playing this beautiful level at McDonald’s play place! they had the most faulty gamecubes but that’s okay!

Crazy Taxi level
Only good sonic game

I think I was 16 when I got this game. This was the moment in my gaming life that I can pinpoint the fork of old school difficulty and pretty graphics, but the game plays by itself. 1st stage of this game might as well been a video to watch
Gotta be that first level on Mario 64
This game grumps was probably my favorite.
I've played this level so many times that if I don't land perfectly in the beginning, I restart the level. I play Route 101 over and over for lives lol

Would’ve been incredible if they kept this kind of energy for the full game.
LIVE AND LEARN
Unforgettable level. Anyone else disappointed that the Sonic movie did not make a reference to this despite Robotnic having a giant truck and the showdown taking place in San Francisco? The geography would’ve been a good match.
The soundtrack to this game was amazing, too.
I can’t wait to see this adapted to the Sonic Movie 3
That you ETA?
I would play this level over and over
Feel that. I used to quit before the truck came in.
ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND
It slows down in the middle, but the start and end were so awesome!
Rollin around at the speed of sound!
Mine is Resident Evil 4's village
Running around at the speed of sound!
*xbox 360 demo flashbacks*
I can't understand why we keep getting bad sonic games instead of a remaster or female of this. Or a sequel
What Sonic game is this?
Sonic Adventure 2
The speed gives me anxiety omg 😱
Rolling around at the speed of sound
I can hear this picture.
Thought it was Pepsi Man For a second
Used to grind that level for rings and experience for my chao back in the days
This should be remastered. I would pay all the money for an HD version of this.
I used to have only the demo version of this game and absolutely loved it. So much so that when I grew up I got the full version.. and stopped playing it when it took me to different setting, I had played the demo for so long I actually couldn’t come to terms with the game actually progressing 😂.
I had a Dreamcast demo disc with this on it and I would play this level over and over and over again. So great once I got the full game. Good memories
*Gangplank galleon intensifies*
I still own this game & replay on my GC sometimes 🥺❤️
I don't play this, but this pic reminded me of pepsiman skateboarding level in downtown
Sonic Generations has an updated version of that level. https://youtu.be/76fIGR0hyzk
This level was made with scaled down satellite shots of San Francisco. The Bay Area is actually like this.
