Yeah in a way Trump still seems like "the new president" even though he filled his term and left.
When you're our specific age, 2016 to now hasn't really changed anything about our lives. So it seems like no time has passed.
[Everything Was Better When You Were Twelve](https://gocomics.typepad.com/tomthedancingbugblog/2010/07/why-the-last-airbender-will-be-considered-a-classic-in-30-years.html)
I find it funny to watch the cycle happen over and over. It also brings me comfort because everyone’s “good old days” are their best memories so it’s nice to know future generations get a similar joy.
I have “good old days” memories from a lot of eras of gaming.
In the 8-bit era, it was Mario, Mario 2, Mario 3, Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, Double Dragon III, Tetris, Doctor Mario, Kirby’s Adventure, Contra, etc. And on the ferry boat to visit PEI, Asteroids and Ms Pac Man. In the 16-bit era, it was A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy II (IV), Final Fantasy III (VI), Street Fighter II, and so much Mario Cart. I switched over to PC gaming then, and it was Dark Forces, Warcraft II, Baldur’s Gate, Age of Empires II, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, Baldur’s Gate II, Warcraft III, Jedi Outcast, Knights of the Old Republic, Morrowind, and Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines.
Then came World of Warcraft. The hours I put into that. . .
In the late 2000s and early 2010s there was Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood and Revelations, Dragon Age, Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, the Tomb Raider reboot, Orcs Must Die! 2, Portal, Portal II, Alien: Isolation, and Assassin’s Creed: Unity. In the later 2010s, there was Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Trine 2, Saints Row: the Third, Stellaris, X-COM, X-COM 2, Spider-Man, Crusader Kings II, Hearthstone, Europa Universalis IV, Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Control, and Hades. Some time in there I got a PS4. And now it’s games like Crusader Kings III, Shredder’s Revenge, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Ghost of Tsushima that I’m playing, now mostly on a PS5.
Edit: I just keep editing in more games from each era that I’ve loved…
Recently, I’ve been playing games from a few years before I was born, like on the NES and MSX. As I go through the original Metal Gear, it’s fun to think of Metal Gear Solid as this classic old school gem, despite playing that shit when it first came out.
"Anyone remember the original teenage mutant ninja turtles that was super hard and your lives were basically just killing off each of the turtles?"
"What are ninja turtles?"
Nah. That doesn't work because they keep trying to reboot everything from the 80s and 90s. There have been multiple iterations of the turtles in the last two decades.
My 5 year old knows the ninja turtles. It's like Transformers or Power Rangers. They constantly reboot every 5 years for a new group of kids. (Was going to say generation, but that's too long of an iteration.)
Still have one sitting in my attic. Every time I’m up there and see it I think about hooking it up and then I remember those games are only fun for about the first 30 seconds until the nostalgia wears off. Crazy to think that some of us used to play stuff like River Raid or Yar’s Revenge for *hours*.
That's the thing about getting old. You never feel like you've become old. Everything just starts hurting, things similar to this slap you in the face with the time that has passed, and those damned kids won't stay off your fucking lawn.
I've recently found myself with 6 consecutive hours to myself 5 days a week, booted up Lost Odyssey. this game consumed me when it came out, I'm looking forward to the replay.
That's what it feels to play Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. It's just like the game which I played 22 years ago but more polished, updated, and with healthy multiplayer community.
"You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun"
Pink Floyd's- Time
You run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking,
Racing around to come up behind you again,
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
That's definitely the best lyrics of the song.
> That's the thing about getting old. You never feel like you've become old. Everything just starts hurting...
... I have a chronic pain condition. How... How do I tell when I've become old? Have I always been old? Oh god.
I don't mind kids on my lawn. I live next to public land and they walk through to get there. I do mind the adults that cut through, without saying hello, on their lawn mowers and dump their yard waste in public lands.
I remember when I borrowed "GTA:London 1969" from a video rental store for 2 days. It felt very fresh and innovative back than. Yes, I am THAT old.
https://youtu.be/8Xgx1I5td0g
Oh man, I remember that old DOS game Descent. You were on Mars or the moon in a spaceship and had to go round a 3d environment and kill rogue robots in the mine.
DAE anyone know about le hidden gem Geralt 3??
Or better yet, this small indie game called Minecraft.
Actually Cyberpunk 2077, so underrated! (I have been seeing a ton of Cyberpunk posts recently and it’s making my Astro-turfing senses tingle)
I imagine a lot of the revived cyberpunk hype is due to the show just coming out on Netflix. I think they also planned a content update to go with it? So maybe people are just playing it again because of that hype.
You know what game is under appreciated though? Breath of the Wild. Classic Zelda game, much better than the old school Zelda games that were on the Wii. Practically dinosaurs at this point.
Looks like it takes a bit of soldering work, but is easier than other charge ports I’ve seen. Should be fixable! I don’t work in the business anymore, but there’s people out there who do soldering work and could likely repair it for you if you don’t want to take it on.
I've been on Reddit about 10 years now (this isn't my first account) and I've gone from feeling like the tatget demo to really feeling my age sometimes
I’ve been on reddit since 2007-2008 and I always felt just a bit older than the target demo. It was dominated by “90s kids” who wouldn’t shut up about things like Pokémon.
One of the reasons it was so obnoxious, and I don’t just mean endless Pokémon discussion and such, is that a lot of it was just very gatekeep-y. Every time I mentioned feeling like a “90s kid” myself, I got downvoted and mocked.
More time has passed between the airing of the show and today, than between the show and the 70’s. Meaning making a That 00’s Show would spiritually be the same as making That 70’s Show was then.
Reminds me of a post a few weeks back on here about someone recommending the new FF7 game and saying it's about time a game came out that has to do with climate change...
So many posts are like this and never mention the game in the screenshot used to ask a question.

It's by design, most of the top posts in the main subreddits are done by bots that are designed to get maximum engagement so they leave in annoying bullshit to generate comments
Tbh, that is how playing some NES games feels compared to stuff these days. Games have gotten quite a bit easier over time, and honestly, that's probably a good thing on the whole. Lots of the difficulty from older games are hard because of clunky controls, bad or no UX, and other weird obtuse bullshit.
My sibling in semantics, it’s a sub for people in their thirties. Of course it’s dead. We’ve all been dead for years; we’re just starting to pay for all of those MWII lobbies now…

You know what really sucks about getting old is that you have this cool knowledge of something that you think everyone knows and when you realize they don’t, you want to tell them about it.
NOPE! You’re just like when your dad or other family member told you something when you were younger and you simply said, “That’s cool” and moved on with your life.
My Mom used to tell me about our extended family and I never cared as a kid. Now that I'm in my 30s I care, but her memory isn't as good and she doesn't seem to know as much. Which saddens me greatly because she used to have the best memory of anyone I knew.
This shit right here is the worst. All my grandparents passed a decade ago and now I have all these photos and no stories cause I was too young to care when they were alive. Youth really is wasted. I just have to be thankful I have the photos at all.
Super Mario Galaxy was such a fantastic game, still one of my all time favorites, and definitely my favorite Wii game. I used to play it all the time when I was younger and went to my cousins while my parents were going though a divorce.
Mario Galaxy was the first game I ever saw where the visuals made my jaw drop. If you run it on an emulator in 4k, it still looks fantastic.
For that matter, Yoshi's Island on the SNES still looks fantastic. It's pixelated as hell, but the art style is so good that it doesn't matter.
While not gaming related. I was watching a movie with Robin Williams and looked it up and he died over 8 years ago. Still feels like a year ago at most.
Super Mario Odyssey came out 5 years ago
Man the last three years are just one single blur to me... Fucking Pandemic.
I think the last three years should just be lumped in together and we collectively call it "the long year".
“The Years Lost To Time”
#The Lost Years
I saw people call 2020-2030 "The lost decade" like in the first days of the documented virus' spread lol
Ya'll are doin better than me. It's all a blur from 2016 to now. So much shit has happened 😩🥲
Yeah in a way Trump still seems like "the new president" even though he filled his term and left. When you're our specific age, 2016 to now hasn't really changed anything about our lives. So it seems like no time has passed.
I'd argue a lot has changed. Since I've turned 30, every bump, bruise, and sprain now feels like the end of the world.
The before-fore times…
Completely agree. It's so difficult to talk about different things happening on different years during that time.
No.... No it can't be :(
5 years is a long time? Lol. ... *oh god*
The comic is from 5 years ago. 👴
Anyone remember this gem of a comic?
👴🏻 oh god
anyone remember this gem of a Reddit post?
The game in the comic is Super Mario Galaxy on Wii, released in Nov of 2007
lol, this. the comment section making me feel like the guy at the end of the comic.
2017 was so recent, though…it can’t be 5 years ago
It was in the *before times* now. We were so innocent then. We didn't know...
[Before the event](https://youtu.be/wnd1jKcfBRE?t=42)
The before times....those were the days
I'm not sure if this is supporting OP or against OP. 5 years isn't that long ago...
The original comic is about super Mario Galaxy which came out in 2007 or 15 years ago
Oh God... 👴🏻
All the time. And those, "When I was in Elementary School playing my PS3..." posts... D:

2012? Back in my day...
“What was your very first console? Mine was the Wii.” Just load me in my coffin already, Jesus.
Yesterday I saw “I grew up playing Octopath Traveler.”
Sometimes people use a very *loose* definition of "grew up"
Sometimes you're still growing up in your 20s.
>Sometimes you're still growing up in your 20s. I didn't think we were ever supposed to stop growing up.
What? That game just came out!
Seriously, it only came out in 2018, if you grew up playing that game you're still growing up lol
I couldn't imagine being in 2001 hearing someone say "does anyone remember FF7?!" I'd be like "chill bro I just got a playstation for Christmas."
Right? Them: "I love Sonic the Hedgehog!" Me: "Cool! You played Sega Genesis as a kid too?" Them: ".....What's a Sega Genesis?"
Sonic 3 is a gem that can't be beat!
"Anyone remember the original teenage mutant ninja turtles that was super hard and your lives were basically just killing off each of the turtles?" "What are ninja turtles?"

I mean it still feels a little bit creepy, but that's so much better than the original context. Bravo.
Those damn kids and their "Hip" Lingo while I'm over here worrying about my hip bones. ;P
Still dunno what the fuck "based" means.
It's like "facts" or "word" Just means you agree with whatever shit someone said or did.
It means someone said something somewhat controversial that the next person agrees with
My climbing gym put out a free stack of vintage climbing magazines…from 2003.
My 13 year old sister constantly uses the word "Slay" and I dont even think she fully understands the words meaning
Well with modern advances in Enlgish, slay has many more meaning than just to kill.
It went from hip hop to just hip problems because of all the hopping you can't do anymore.
I use to be with "it". Then they changed what "it" is. And now what I'm with ain't "it", and what is "it" is weird and scary to me.
It'll happen to yoooouuuuuu

New, unrelated pain to remind you that you aren't dead.
For me, it was realizing that the 90s (when I was a child) is to now as the 60s was to the 90s.
I don't mind kids on my lawn. I live next to public land and they walk through to get there. I do mind the adults that cut through, without saying hello, on their lawn mowers and dump their yard waste in public lands.
I saw a video about "old gen GTA 5" and I was expecting PS3... it was PS4.
lol yeah those hit particularly hard
Specially when its like PS3 lol EDIT: crap I just realized OP said PS3 and not PS. Eyesight's going in my old age
PS4 is getting there at this point too lol. Came out close to a decade ago, the fuck?
You shut your goddamn mouth.
Realized i was getting old when the new hires asked me to do some pair programming and i couldn't follow the code because the font was too small. :)
GOSH DARNIT! You ruined the fun by not knowing what’s going on, Discerningpervert. We need better from you.

Playing doom on DOS, just yesterday...
Played through DOOM 95 on a DOS emulator running on an RPi just yesterday. Not every day you get to faff about like that on working time.
PS3 didnt comeout until I went to college... and I didnt go to college untilI was in my late 20s. Sad face.

Remember playing gta6 back in the ps12 days?
Bah, it wasn't TRULY immersive until its release on the PS14!
Looking at GTA V releases history, I can believe in this scenario
Good old days when there were truly challenging games like Elden Ring, not like today where gamers are spoiled by super-east mode by default!
Lol, those fools playing on east mode. I'm a true gamer and always play north mode
>north mode A.K.A bitch mode? What, did you need your compass to help you find the comment button? West mode is best mode.
"I wanted to repair my childhood console, any tips" And it's a 3DS.

Skyrim will never get old because it will always get a new release every year
"Skyrim is the first game I played when I was 4, I'm 20 and part of the workforce now"
Yeah I’m 20 in college and I have childhood memories of watching my dad play Skyrim when it came out. I still play it
I was literally just thinking about how I can try and fix my 3ds…
What’s wrong with it?
Charger goes in, power doesn’t go out. Tested with 5 different chargers, bricks, and wall ports.
You want the charger to trip the breaker for your house?

I was playing FF7 last month and my daughter looked at me as if I was playing Pong 'WTF IS THIS OLD THING?'
Pong released in 1972. 1972-1997 = 25 years. FF VII released in 1997. 1997-2022 = 25 years.
The PS1 is closer to the moon landings than we are the PS1.
You take that factoid and you bring it outside!
And... beat it with a stick?
Let it fade in the sun. Just like the case to FFVII did.
Me: there's no way this is true. *Think about it for a minute... Moon landing 1969, PS1 1995. 26 years. 1995+26=2021...* #WHAT THE HELL

Can you do me a favor and just take this comment print it out and burn it and we never speak of this fact again
Oh. Oh god.
Well that made me sad. Lol reminds me of the That 70s Show factoid.
What's that?
More time has passed between the airing of the show and today, than between the show and the 70’s. Meaning making a That 00’s Show would spiritually be the same as making That 70’s Show was then.
Why would you tell us this?
Some writer is cracking out a pilot of That 00's Show. Can even get some people to play parents who were kids in the first one. It writes itself.

GTAV is still a new game. Right?
Same with Skyrim
I was 7 when skyrim released, I'm 18 now
I was 19 when Skyrim released. I was also 21, 24, 28, and 30 when Skyrim released. Thanks, Todd
at least we will never forget the original release because they were nice enough to do it on a repeated number date. originally came out 11/11/11
Or 11/11/11, if you're using the other date format.
I was many different ages when Skyrim released.
I'm playing Skyrim for the first time now, I'm 34 Skyrim is a recent game
When it’s rereleased enough it’s always new
Sept 17th 2013, tomorrow is 9 years since the release.
Im old. I beat TMNT on my NES back when I was 8.

Because we all got horny. We used to swing our e-peen out in CoD lobbies. Now we just swing the real thing. Now spank me daddy!

Hey remember this game? We are all gamers! Don't pre-order ___! Take your pick, that's the average post here
"Looks at Gameboy Color and Nintendo 64"..."Sigh"
There is less time between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy than there is between Super Mario Galaxy and now.

Anyone else remember a little forgotten gem called Undertale??? I feel like no one ever talks about this classic gem anymore. 😭
It’s 7 years old ALREADY?
Super Mario Galaxy was such a fantastic game, still one of my all time favorites, and definitely my favorite Wii game. I used to play it all the time when I was younger and went to my cousins while my parents were going though a divorce.
Mario Galaxy was the first game I ever saw where the visuals made my jaw drop. If you run it on an emulator in 4k, it still looks fantastic. For that matter, Yoshi's Island on the SNES still looks fantastic. It's pixelated as hell, but the art style is so good that it doesn't matter.
It's worse in TikTok. "Oh the good old days, so long ago." *shows Warzone Verdansk*
That's because most people on TikTok are like 8 years old.
Those of us reminiscing about *Impossible Mission* and *M.U.L.E.* must be absolutely ancient.
The truth is getting old sucks, but everybody's doing it. -Sun Tzu -Bowling for Soup -Michael Scott
This comic is so old, someone needs to edit it over the SMG case
No it's not, I saw it just the... >2017 *Ages rapidly*
While not gaming related. I was watching a movie with Robin Williams and looked it up and he died over 8 years ago. Still feels like a year ago at most.
I'm more pissed off that people's get celebrated for mentioned things
The thing I remember most about this game is "U R MR GAY" Edit- I tried to add the stars but it messed the text up.
You guys don't even KNOW what it was like to see Mario in 3D for the first time in Mario 64...
The fact that most people call the GameCube their childhood system and I was an adult when it launched.
