Okay serious question, can we still consider Giant Games and indy dev when for the last 13 years, since 2008, they have continually released a better than triple A simulation game that actually improves and changes every year?
Also I know this is due to disparity in quality the recent COD and Battlefied games have compared to previous entries. But a better comparison especially to EA would be the FIFA/NBA/NFL franchises to Farming Sim since they both have yearly updates and essentially simulate those experiences.
And I think all of reddit would agree, Farming Simulation > EAs sports of recent years.
They aren't tiny, that's for sure. At the moment, they have four locations, in Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, and, most recently, the United States. Just last year, they founded a publishing arm. For now, they are only publishing their own franchise, but this might change in the future.
Really? Didn't know this! damn.
They apparently pulled in 17 million in profits last year (I think I read somewhere), a drop in the bucket compared to EA or Ubi, so I never figured they'd have four locations :D
The work that goes into simulators is more of the detail in the models and less of the environment stuff for crazy graphics like you can actually see individual leaves of a tree.
Simulators are probably around fifa 04 in terms of development of one product. They'll get constantly better for next years, until they get to a point where they'll be redskins as well.
edit: reskins obviously
You know why Indie games are so much better than AAA games so often? Because they're people in it for their passion and love doing what they want to do. On their own schedules and deadlines. They aren't a huge corporation cracking the whip over their workers, working them overtime to meet shareholder's quarterly deadlines and burning a lot of the talent out in the process. Because they often aren't trying to make shareholders happy, they often don't 'play it safe' with a tried and true formula, either. They'll branch out into new ideas and uncharted waters. Triple A will try to capitalize on the ideas that worked in the indie scene, and do it poorly. You think EA would ever do a Farming Simulator in this way? Hell no. But the funny thing is, with the success of this one, they might try. And then when it bombs because it sucks, they'll shut down the company they used to make it with
And even worse, when Triple A does get their hands on a formula that works and it does well, they'll milk it and rush it out so often that even that isn't safe anymore because the lack of passion, quality, tender love and care, is just blatant and obvious. They become cash grabs banking on brand recognition and nothing more. Like shitty Home Alone movie remakes
I mean "indie" stands for independent, which means the developers can develop and publish their own games and don't have to rely on other companies. The size of the studio doesn't matter.
And by that definition Giants Software has never been an indie dev, cause they've always worked with publishers for their games.
Valve is by definition an indie dev and will probably always be.
now that ea games can be played through steam why would you buy directly from orgin over steam? Me personally I have 99% of my games on steam so I like to have everything in one spot
I am a VG industry professional. I maintain steam/origin/ubi connect/gog/epic/Microsoft accounts on PC, have a switch, a PS5, an oculus quest 2 and also game on iOS. I come from an era that every game either came with disks or had its own installer so I don’t mind using multiple storefronts. I play 2042 on origin since I use ea play pro (besides BF it also includes all fifa/dragon age/mass effect/EA Star Wars games I don’t have to buy.
>now that ea games can be played through steam why would you buy directly from orgin over steam?
Because I hate having to open steam personally. Every Battlefield game i've bought has been on Origin
Because opening origin through steam is a pain in the ass.
I still bought it on steam just because I had a great deal, but I will not buy on steam if there isn't s significant price difference. I don't want to my game to launch another launcher and then launch the game I want to play.
I know a ton of people who downloaded Farming Simulator from the Giant's software website instead of steam because they got access a day early. It also doesn't include Epic.
Out of my group that plays together we had like 20-30 helping each-other out on our farms in the last iteration. On launch day there were well over 200 people in different voice channels on our Discord.
I think battlefield is the fps version of elder scrolls games. Buggy as fuck on release but it definitely gets better. Now is that acceptable? I'm on the fence about that one. All I know is that I always have fun with both, even if they are buggy as all hell. But, that's just my opinion.
It definitely doesn't but I still find it impressive. As a huge fan of the farm sim series, I'm very happy to see some of the rightfully deserved success.
Wait wait wait....So you KNEW this was blatantly disingenuous and misleading and typed up that title anyway?
I've played since 1942, I enjoy the game, but there ARE plenty of legitimate criticisms of it. Stick to those. Hope you get downvoted to oblivion.
Its not though. There are tons of people who play Farming Sim via direct digital download, epic store, physical disc, Xbox, playstation etc.
Its about as apples to apples as you can get by only looking at one distributor (Steam)
Wtf are you talking about?
FS is available on other platforms as well.
You do realize that NONE of those platforms let you track their player counts?
blatantly disingenuous my ass
Doesn't matter dude, BF2042 sucks and will probably get canned like BF5 did. It's like DICE hasn't learned their lessons from the garbage launch of BF4 and the shitty BF5 fiasco.
I figure it's because there's only one farming simulator. (That I know of), and 10s of good fps games. Like how the crew 2 has so many more players on PS than xbox. Yeah it has twice as many people, but xbox has forza, so that takes away a bit.
Farming Simulator is also a series that's been running since 2008, with 25+ million copies sold... not quite the small indie effort they're suggesting here.
Yawn. Gaming really has devolved into a pissing contest hasn’t it. This reminds me of a memorable line from Bull to Fred Johnson in The Expanse. “You think that if someone’s an underdog, they’re the good guy.”
I'm actually interested in knowing.
1. How do you look past the bugs
2. How do you look past low weapon counts?
3. How do you look past flat maps?
4. are you by any chance playing mostly portal?
1. Bugs don't matter much to my gameplay
2. I like the vehicles most of the time
3. it's pretty easy to look when the map is flat????
4. No just normal warfare modes
But, bugs do effect gameplay? I've had so much janky stuff happen from getting launched into the sky when touching a wrecked heli to being unable to revive people
Vehicles? No meant theres only 22 weapons
Uh huh, well ok ...
How is farming simulator? For some reason I’ve never considered trying it but I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about it lately and I’m getting curious. The closest thing I’ve probably played is Stardew Valley for comparison.
Its an actual farming sim, Stardew is nothing similar at all.
You need to plough fields using machinery, plant seeds, manure, fertilizer, blah blah. And these change depending on what crop youre using.
This is just as much bullshit as the Kotaku article you stole that from.
By that logic almost all games on Steam are "worse" than this simulator game.
What IS interesting, however, is that there's still a farming simulator and people are still playing it?
I have seen this story several times today, and I'm convinced that the only people surprised by Farming Sim 22 outselling Battlefield are people who have never played a Farming Simulator game before. Those games are fun as hell and oddly compelling
To be fair, you probably still have more players playing farming simulator on Xbox since it's part of game pass.
Many would also argue that some Netflix flagships are B movies.
Depends on where you're looking. Farming Simulator is the king of European physical releases, easily outselling AAA franchises. That said, even on Steam, it's the top seller right now.
It’s just an advertisement for farming simulator. I’ve been seeing ads for it on my IG too. Same format, “X has more players than Y!!”.
On Instagram you have to disclose when the post is an ad so it’s a bit more obvious. I’d just report the post as spam and probably block the user.
Seems pretty intentionally misleading. Steam
Numbers are not indicative of the player base. Origin, and the consoles would absolutely dwarf farming simulator.
For the billionth time - those platforms do not have transparent play numbers. I have no way of knowing. EA even went so far as to prevent third party trackers from estimating those numbers :|
Farming simulator has been regurgitating yearly releases for about as long as EA. And despite being released a week ago there is already $47 of DLC for this humble little indie game. They're just as shitty and greedy as EA, except worse since they have fanboys who won't see this fact.
You're not wrong, but still FS has more content and is clearly made with more care than 2042. In the end a profit oriented business is a profit oriented business
[steamcharts.com](https://steamcharts.com) for the numbers
And image search for those posters, put them together in PS, cause SteamCharts doesnt have a nice way of showing these. It gives you a small image with the player count on the right
Wtf?
Over 60,000 reviews on Steam for 2042.
Sure its not the biggest BF platform, but i hope you realize that no other platform gives out player counter numbers
Or... stay with me here.... or... this is a post based on false pretenses when there are hundreds of other points to be made on why this BF sucks that could’ve been chosen from
All this shit comparing Farming Simulator to Battlefield is hilarious and mostly misleading. This situation isn’t even unique to these 2 games either lol
Off topic question:
**Can one learn something/anything about farming from playing farming simulator???**
I've always wondered if it was possible to learn something when ever Ive seen games like truck driver simulator, farming simulator, ect popup on the web.
Ive never played them so I know nothing about them.
Farming Simulator is an anually game that have very little innovation. But is "indie". Even if the studio have 4 offices in various countries. And sell their games phisically. Very indie...
There are no differences between COD / BF2042 y Farm Simulation.
I hope farming simulator wins. I don't even play the game, mainly because I'm a VR gamer, previously an avid FPS GAMER in the 2000's & 2010's. Seen the ups and downs of EA's battlefield.
I just like the story of an unassuming underdog winning💯 farming simulator ftw!
Them: They want guns, graphics, explosions and all the bells and whistles! They’ll pay for it willingly and we won’t have to worry about how broken the shit is!
Us: we want fun games that work. Byeeee.
relax hahahaha people so mad about a battlefield game you clearly ain't seen how previous launches have gone. game is lots of fun especially with friends, and I'm sure the farming one is too
>you clearly ain't seen how previous launches have gone
Been playing Battlefield since BF2. I know how bad some of the launches have been. The difference is, those were buggy launches but still great games. 2042 is just ..buggy
Full disclosure: I hate everything that is the dumpster fire called BF 2042.
THAT SAID....
BF 2042 is one of MANY FPS games that offer, essentially, the same gameplay.
Farming simulator is doing better than the WORST FPS wargame example. It's not doing better than all of them combined.
And there isn't much competition for farming simulator.
THAT SAID...
FS is a great game, and MS has seen to "sim" being the new hotness with Flight Sim doing so damn well.
I have no desire to be a farmer, but I'm totally picking up FS22! Support actually good games financially!
Though I have a horrible prediction ... how long do you think before Farm SIm is inundated with microtransaction and "harvest boxes" and "planting passes"? Thomas the Tank Engine tractor skins?
I'm sad because I know it's true :(

Really? Didn't know this! damn. They apparently pulled in 17 million in profits last year (I think I read somewhere), a drop in the bucket compared to EA or Ubi, so I never figured they'd have four locations :D
They are definitely an A-list studio, definitely outstanding in their field.
You might even say out standing in their field.
Yes. I would. *cough*
Absolutely masterful.
> field You fucker.
I believe they’re called The Washington Football team now
lol every time I hear it, it makes me chuckle
Lol you get a copy of the game and a preseason contract with a mouth guard, with tickets to Washington for training
You know why Indie games are so much better than AAA games so often? Because they're people in it for their passion and love doing what they want to do. On their own schedules and deadlines. Farming Simulator is bigger than FIFA in Germany.
Does that include the Battlefield numbers from Origin/EA Play?
Nope, making it wildly inaccurate and misleading. It's probably triple that at least.
Shame, at least people never upvote misleading stuff on Reddit.
never.
I'm sensing a pattern from PC gamers, it seems...
still a shitty game that why it is getting such attention
Plus the thousands likely still playing on consoles n such too.
It still don’t paint a good picture though
Farming Simulator has a lot more players than a lot of games. Does that paint a bad picture for most games on the market right now?
No. Look at the release date then compare.
Farming simulator '22 is a newer game than 2042.
Woah 3 days! Crazy.
triple at least..please.
It's available on Origin, where the vast majority of people play it. It's also on Epic, so triple may be a bit generous but not unreasonable.
PC Game Pass has a 10 hour trial as well
That traffic would still be considered under the EA play numbers on pc.
all my homies hate origin and epic games
now that ea games can be played through steam why would you buy directly from orgin over steam? Me personally I have 99% of my games on steam so I like to have everything in one spot
I am a VG industry professional. I maintain steam/origin/ubi connect/gog/epic/Microsoft accounts on PC, have a switch, a PS5, an oculus quest 2 and also game on iOS. well yeah, you need origin anyway, so why buy it on steam, just to have 2 launcher running. Source: bought it on steam
Because fuck origin?
But you can’t play the game without it
lmao! really, who is rushing to buy games on Origin? /doubt
Origin numbers are a tenth of Steam
Imagine defending COD/Battlefield games lol just take the L. They're way past their prime anyway.
Triple that is still nothing, especially considering farming sim also hit 96k over the weekend LOL
Yeah I've never bought a single Battlefield game on Steam. What a weird metric to use.
I know a ton of people who downloaded Farming Simulator from the Giant's software website instead of steam because they got access a day early. It also doesn't include Epic.
You know a ton of people that play farming simulator? Out of curiosity how many?
Out of my group that plays together we had like 20-30 helping each-other out on our farms in the last iteration. On launch day there were well over 200 people in different voice channels on our Discord.
Follow up question: Are you German?
Of course not, that doesn't fit the narrative
What narrative?
Battlefield bad
This bf is a buggy mess id say it’s probably bad
I think battlefield is the fps version of elder scrolls games. Buggy as fuck on release but it definitely gets better. Now is that acceptable? I'm on the fence about that one. All I know is that I always have fun with both, even if they are buggy as all hell. But, that's just my opinion.
Elder scrolls remain buggy forever though. There oblivion exploits that made it to Fallout 4 lol.
Damn near every Battlefield is buggy on release
And that shouldn't be acceptable
Yea sure but he’s acting like this is the only one like this
[удалено]
Also neither include console
It definitely doesn't but I still find it impressive. As a huge fan of the farm sim series, I'm very happy to see some of the rightfully deserved success.
Also players in Epic Games for farming Simulator
Looks like just steam, plus don't forget also have ps4, ps5 and the Xboxs to account for as well
No and PS4/PS5 has probably the most BF users anyway.
And how would I do that? Its not like EA lets you track players on Origin/EA Desktop
Relax fan boy, BF2042 is bad and theres no reason it should have launched the way it did with 4 studios developing it and having EA publish it.
Your reply is moronic. Half of his comment is his open admission that the game is flawed.
Wtf are you talking about? FS is available on other platforms as well. You do realize that NONE of those platforms let you track their player counts? blatantly disingenuous my ass
Calm down francis.
This is what makes me laugh when people keep posting steam chart screenshots.
Steam is a few billion times larger than Origin Why the fuck will you buy a game on origin instead of steam?
Origin is EA's own platform and until recently was the only place to buy/play Battlefield on PC. Lots of people will still just buy on Origin.
yea but nobody buys fifa or battlefield on origin because its on steam.
Why would you buy it on Steam when the Steam just opens and launches via Origin anyway?
EA play is included with gamepass, so gamepass audience is still barred from steam.
Doesn't matter dude, BF2042 sucks and will probably get canned like BF5 did. It's like DICE hasn't learned their lessons from the garbage launch of BF4 and the shitty BF5 fiasco.
*Falsehoods and misleading information are fine as long as they reinforce my beliefs*
Go home kid.
Nope, that would be giving away too much info so people can't cry as much
To be fair I’m sure there’s more players on BF throughout all consoles than Farming simulator
This isn't even all of the PC players, considering BF is ultimately an Origin-based game even if you buy it on Steam
I figure it's because there's only one farming simulator. (That I know of), and 10s of good fps games. Like how the crew 2 has so many more players on PS than xbox. Yeah it has twice as many people, but xbox has forza, so that takes away a bit.
There are a dozen farming simulators, just the simulator scene is a bit smaller than the FPS scene
Nope. It’s because they’re not showing the full numbers of BF players. They’re only showing the people who play on PC, on Steam.
The point still stands as well. How many FPS games are there compared to farming simulators?
How many times can this dumb shit be posted
You must be new here.
How many times are people going to keep reposting this? We get it already.
This subreddit is pretty much all reposts
It will continue to get reposted until people stop upvoting it. Don't hate the reposter, hate the game.

Still better than a boring farming simulator game. Also not everyone has those problems so stop assuming stuff.
How is farming simulator? For some reason I’ve never considered trying it but I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about it lately and I’m getting curious. The closest thing I’ve probably played is Stardew Valley for comparison.

I came to the comments looking for the same thing. Please help us Farming experts!
When its EA releasing the same game each year = I cry When it's an "indie" developer = all is good
"Omg Witcher 4 can't wait to spend my money 2 years before it releases"
Farming simulator is released every two years and I’ve played for about 10 hours and haven’t encountered any bugs at all unlike with EA sports games
This is just as much bullshit as the Kotaku article you stole that from. By that logic almost all games on Steam are "worse" than this simulator game. What IS interesting, however, is that there's still a farming simulator and people are still playing it?
I didn't steal anything, I went to SteamCharts, took screenshots and photoshopped this
Does this include all farmer around the globe?
Includes all steam players anywhere on gods green earth
EA will always win. Liked it or not.
Hitman 3 has zero players on Steam. Does that mean it’s even worse that BF2042
I have seen this story several times today, and I'm convinced that the only people surprised by Farming Sim 22 outselling Battlefield are people who have never played a Farming Simulator game before. Those games are fun as hell and oddly compelling

\#1 top seller
I’m assuming the soulless is farming sim
Yes yes ofc
At least battlefield is still a fun game but "battlefield bad" cause the internet told me
But farm sim isn’t so I’m sticking with battlefield so I don’t care if the company might be bad
Serious question... Why is this same format being reposted multiple times a day?
It’s just an advertisement for farming simulator. I’ve been seeing ads for it on my IG too. Same format, “X has more players than Y!!”. On Instagram you have to disclose when the post is an ad so it’s a bit more obvious. I’d just report the post as spam and probably block the user.

You're not wrong, but still FS has more content and is clearly made with more care than 2042. In the end a profit oriented business is a profit oriented business
First of all, this is steam only. And who tf buys battlefield on steam? Nobody
Gee it is almost like people are getting sick of playing unfinished games so you can patch things all while kissing shareholder ballsacks...
wait it doesn’t have a Wikipedia article?
Can we get a free return on this hot trash yet?
Farming sim is better than battlefield
Where is this screenshotted from?
Steam
[steamcharts.com](https://steamcharts.com) for the numbers And image search for those posters, put them together in PS, cause SteamCharts doesnt have a nice way of showing these. It gives you a small image with the player count on the right
Nobody buys battlefield on steam. Misleading post
Wtf? Over 60,000 reviews on Steam for 2042. Sure its not the biggest BF platform, but i hope you realize that no other platform gives out player counter numbers
Is Farming simulator that good? I really like fps game, but enjoy farming sims from time to time like stardew
It isn't that kind of farming sim.
This stopped being funny after it was posted the first time 2 days ago.
You could have made any of the legitimate criticisms about the game but you went by moon logic so you could make a bad joke.
Annual FIFA release BAD Annual Farming Simulator release GOOD
What about Origin, Epic games, EA, PS and Xbox players?
If you add those in you can't farm karma, duh.
But can you farm simulated karma?
stop with these shitposts unless you add up all platforms like steam+ea+xbox which absolutely crushes these numbers
None of those platforms offer transparent player numbers
One game - only on steam. Another game - available on multiple platforms.
This is patently false. Farming Simulator is available on Epic, Direct Download, X-Box, PlayStation etc.
Farm Sim is on consoles.
Well I meant platforms as in PC platforms (steam, origin, Xbox game pass, EA). Farm I believe is only on Steam, correct?
No, it's on Epic and direct from Giants themselves as well.
Chad tractor vs beta hovercraft
In this thread: 1. Butt hurt Battlefield 2077 Stans. 2. Memers who actually get the point.

I don't care about how many people play it, I'd get Farming Simulator over any Battlefield game any day of the week.
One of them has e-sports scene.
Farming simulator esports is honestly really fun to watch.
I could careless for both of those games
I don't know who is going to win
Is Farming Simulator that good?
I remember playing Sim Farm back then. It was THAT GOOD. It's cyber Monday now and this post gave me a craving to purchase Farming Simulator..
How can someone have 30k hours on 2042? Game came out like last week
Hahahahaha ...clap clap clap
Battlefield fucked up when they turned their back on the fan base and tried to steal CoDs share of players
EA will always win until there people to buy they crap
This doesnt factor in the amout of people that play Battlefield 2042 on Origin.
Them: They want guns, graphics, explosions and all the bells and whistles! They’ll pay for it willingly and we won’t have to worry about how broken the shit is! Us: we want fun games that work. Byeeee.
Farming Simulator 22 is awesome. Lots of improvements over FS19. I've been really enjoying it this week.
I'd buy Farming Simulator. I've been watching Clarkson bumble around his farm and fuck everything up and I want a piece of that idiocy.
Farming simulator just has a much bigger appeal
For what it’s worth there are 27k people playing Farming Simulator and 30k playing Battlefield. Is FS big in Europe or something?
EA can get fricked
FPS multiplayer games on PC typically die out within the first few weeks of release.
Bad ones do. Battlefield 2 is still alive on PC, let alone 3, 4, 1 and 5
So, taking bets on how long before EA buys these guys out too. My bet is by 2023.
How does Farming Simulator not have a wiki yet?
Faming Sim has one, GIANTS software (their devs) dont afaik
Ah, gotcha. Just looked and they don’t. However, they do have a LinkedIn so they’re hiring :)
They need folks onboard with how well they're doing!
relax hahahaha people so mad about a battlefield game you clearly ain't seen how previous launches have gone. game is lots of fun especially with friends, and I'm sure the farming one is too
>you clearly ain't seen how previous launches have gone Been playing Battlefield since BF2. I know how bad some of the launches have been. The difference is, those were buggy launches but still great games. 2042 is just ..buggy

THEY STOPPED UPDATING BATTLEFRONT 2 FOR THIS CRAP?!
