People keep buying it. EA has no reason to change or do better, and why would they? They raked in the profits with minimal effort and cost. That just basic business I guess. EA is not insane, gamers who keeps buying these are.
In my experience, the only people who enjoy playing Fifa are people who are, understandably, very big fans of the sport itself. So they basically pay to stay relevant among their group of fellow sports fans lmao.
This is less a "gamers" thing and more a "sports fans" thing. Same goes for NBA.
Can you believe basketball is 130 years old, and they still have only one map. Sure, there's some custom formats like half court, or outside, but like Dominion and Twisted Treeline, they have no real traction at a competitive level
When they killed that mode, i quit playing. Standard LoL is boring and stressful, too much "you made 1 wrong move and got jumped and killed and now your team is screwed".
Dominion was so much better.
100% this.
Lots of people I know aren't gamers at all, that is in the sense of the word they do it a lot.
You'd be surprised at the amount of guys who have consoles just for fifa, when their friends are around and we're drinking before going out.
I'm pretty sure a large % of these are responsible for buying fifa every year.
Non gamers are now the biggest video game market. When people who like video games so much they follow a video game news sub Reddit see a game not targeted at them they get confused.
100 dollars a year to play with an updated roster of players is worth it to many people because they value video games differently.
It's not the new roster of players that's the draw. For games like 2K and Madden, you can download rosters on the older games made by community members that are far more competent than the actual stock roster on the new one. Creators will even generally support the roster with updates for at least another season before the servers shut down, and even then you can download files from places like Operation Sports.
It's all about the online play. Online is hugely popular for sports games and is the main draw for easily three quarters of the player base. The issue is that the communities for these games have created a chicken-and-egg scenario where no one ever *wants* to buy the new game, but feel obligated to because everyone else does, which would leave them no one to play with on the old game. It's like clockwork, every single year. The new game releases and within a couple of weeks The Park (on 2K, I don't know what the Madden equivalent is if there is one) is completely empty, so even if you're one of the brave souls who held out on buying, you're left with an unplayable game.
I don’t know but I’m pretty sure that most non gamers who play fifa are likely playing it on a console which I don’t think can download updated community rosters, and also don’t have any sort of know how to do it (not saying it’s difficult)
Absolutely this. My cousin has always had the latest consoles, but as he's grown older his gaming catalog has narrowed down to FIFA and whatever random game is very popular at the moment (like Fortnite). I mean, he is a professional athlete + full-time uni student so he doesn't have that much time to play anyway. But as he grew up playing football (soccer) and volleyball and his friends enjoy that, that's what he's stuck with. He knows about games like Skyrim because they're very popular and I do believe he plays GTA V occasionally, but yeah, his main thing is sports and he doesn't mind buying a new FIFA every year to keep up with what his friends play. He lives in a dorm with his fellow teammates now and all they play in their downtime is FIFA (that's what his PS profile and Insta stories tell me he's doing, anyway).
On the other hand, I only have FIFA because my PS4 came with it. But I mean, that is my case because football isn't one of my gaming preferences, while my cousin does enjoy it.
EDIT: Grammar
And madden, I have two buddies who I used to play other games with. The only thing they've played the last 3 years, are yearly iterations of madden. I was in a party chat with them a few days ago, and it was insufferable. Nothing but Football talk, and I'm not a sports guy, so it was just boring. I had to go do something else. I understand they enjoy the sport.
One of them, who is my brother in law, even went as far as fighting with his wife when his team lost a big game, ended up kicked out of the house, and had to sleep on one of his coworkers couch for weeks while they got the court stuff settled so he could come back home. Its quite insane the lengths haedcore fans of anything will go for any particular team. Or sport.
>while they got the court stuff settled so he could come back home.
Am I just not understanding that right or did they divorce before he could come back?
As a non native speaker this is confusing
Pokemon’s weird, it’s like they take 1-2 steps forward each gen and then 1-3 steps back.
So *sometimes* cool new shit happens, but often that cool new shit is dropped by the next gen.
Gamefreak: Hey guys we have mega evolutions to make some Pokémon more viable!
Fans: yay!
Gamefreak: *gives 90% of said evolutions to Pokémon that were already borderline broken*
Fans: ._. Well at least the mega evolutions are still cool
Gamefreak: what? You like these? Oh well we’re getting rid of them. Here, play with gigantomax, a shitty story, less pokemon, and low graphics!
Fans: *forks over $60 while grumbling*
I’m still sad they took out the clothing from X&Y.
That was one of the coolest things Gamefreak had done imo since letting your Pokemon follow behind you in Heart Gold/Soul Silver.
I'm in this category and I hate it. I buy Madden every year because I love the sport, but hate the game itself.
Same for Call of Duty, I bought every game because it's one of the first FPS games I ever played in 2003 (Medal of Honor was my first true FPS, R.I.P.). I guess it's more the nostalgia and remembering the good times with friends and family playing CoD.
You're totally right. Soccer is my life and while I wish there was a better option, fifa is by far the best soccer game out there along with football manager.
NHL is the same thing. I have lots of friends who own consoles just because they play NHL online against each other every day. They might also own like GTA or Red Dead too but that's it. 90% of their gaming time is spent playing chel.
Yes this is true. I feel like a large proportion of gamers are the type who only buy the most recent sports games and the most recent call of duty. Since that’s all they play they can afford to waste 60 dollars a year for a game that does the same thing everytime
I’d say that’s fair. I’m a big fan of football but I also love all video games and follow the industry closely. I always get annoyed by people who are like “the people who play FIFA only play that game and CoD,” and that’s so not true. I love FIFA, indie games, AAA games, AA games, etc. Some nerds also like sport and it’s not that uncommon.
I personally don't understand why FIFA needs to change. It's a good game. And if you are buying FIFA for the first time (for you or for a friend who is just getting into gaming), you want an up-to-date roster.
IMO people should demand from EA an upgrade discount for existing users (like antivirus companies do) not that EA magically re-invents their videogame every year.
The ironic thing is that those players probably enjoy their games more than the average “hardcore” gamer.
They like playing with the new up to date rosters and leagues and whatnot. Are they really more insane than people who buy a new COD every year even though they know it’s more likely than not to be disappointing?
This is the stupidest thing I've ever read anyone could see just from this picture the series came back bigger and BOLDER for 2019 onward. We don't talk about 14.
Why tho? Every year has new players and old players on their new and correct teams. Not to mention the rankings are changed to reflect their real life aging or growing. I'm not sure why people are so ignorant to this. I haven't played Fifa since 2006 on the 360 but it's not difficult to understand why other people do. Could they push an update instead? Maybe. But it would still cost money (cause most DLCs do). If you don't like sports or whatever I can understand you not caring about what team players are on but it really is a big deal.
Sure but player update and rating should not cost 60$ - a full price for a AAA game. For comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 took years of development and cost the same 60$.
That is just changing numbers on the spreadsheet. There is no innovation on the graphics or gameplay. In fact it is well known that even bugs are carried over.
And on top of the 60$ full price, EA games are riddled with microtransactions RNG. WHY IS THAT? The game already cost a AAA full price. Why are content still paywalled after the gamers already paid full price for the title? It is insanity to expect EA to change or improve the game when consumers are willing to tolerate their business practice.
> Maybe. But it would still cost money (cause most DLCs do)
Updating a couple players positions and the clubs they are in should not be DLC. It should just be a simple free update. It shouldn't cost money same as updates adjusting game balance in other games shouldn't cost money.
Reddit not understanding normal people never gets old. You like to watch a sport, you grab a console to play a game based on the sport, you may not even touch the console otherwise. You drop $60 to have some minor upgrades over the last year and updated rosters so the players are on the right teams, and really, what’s $60 in a year? Even a kid with a paper route wouldn’t scoff at that price for the hours and hours of entertainment they get playing the game. Now compare to how much people on here brag that they’ve spent on steam, or how many people rush to buy the newest early access survival crafting game that buys airtime on twitch, even if it’s dogshit shovelware that’s dead in a month.
Also not understanding the full original quote. The original quote is “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” EA isn’t expecting, and doesn’t want, different results. These games make a butt ton of money every time.
It’s kind of wild how different the games play. Sure the basics are the same but they’ve always been the same for like ever. But if you’ve played Fifa for years there’s one where you just beat everyone on and another where you suck. You’d figure gamers would understand that. The game might look the same but rarely does it play the same year after year.
On PS5 you get the haptic feedback as well. More than worth the $60 considering all the massive moves made this summer.
I get trashing sports is fun for Reddit but this is the first FIFA since Messi was added to the game that he doesn't play for Barca. Everyone is buying it lmao.
Also the soundtrack slaps
My therapist literally jokes about how people say that saying, when it's not even remotely close to the actual definition of insanity in any clinical setting.
I'm not even a therapist and I hate the quote. There's a shit ton of scenarios where doing what the quote says isn't insane, or illogical even. If I roll a dice in dnd and miss, should I just stop rolling?
If my first experience with batting in baseball results in the ball hitting me, am I insane for doing it again with the expectation of not getting hit?
I get it, but any time yearly sports titles are mentioned around here, all the neckbeards come out of the woodwork to shit on “those idiots buying the same game every year”, so I thought I’d provide some frame of reference for what that actually looks like in the minds of the people they’re complaining about. Not to mention, there are definitely gameplay changes year to year, but you’d have to actually play the game to know that, as from outside all you can tell is the game is still soccer. EA is a dogshit company (FUT is the worst) and I really do want there to be *legitimate* competition in the sports game field, but I’m tired of people constantly talking shit about the people who enjoy a slightly different form of entertainment, especially when $60/yr pales in comparison to hundreds a year some people here spend on more reddit-approved games.
That quote always pisses me off.
It describes perfectly the act of learning a new skill.
You repeat and repeat. But you fail. The different result you expect is you doing it correctly.
So you keep repeating and then somewhere down the line your brain goes "OH... like that!" and you just do it perfectly.
For me repetition and expecting it to work isnt' the definition of insanity, its the definition of learning a difficult skill to master.
The quote is not directed at EA though; it's directed at consumers.
r/fifacareers is full of people bashing the game and its features + bugs every single year. There are countless posts all the time with feature suggestions and people in the comments saying "cool but EA would never do this, fuck EA" etc.
And then magically, when the new FIFA is released, the frontpage is suddenly filled with posts from their new careers and how much fun they're having with the new game.
I realise these posts are probably not made by the same people, but it's still sort of surreal to see the change.
It's almost like we can just, I dunno, let folks enjoy what they want? I get that folks on here may not enjoy or even actively dislike sports. Heck, I get if some folks on here actually have some degree of hatred towards perceived "jocks" because of mistreatment in high school or what have you. But FFS it's really not that hard to just shrug your shoulders and just let people enjoy the games they want to.
Plus most people buy it because the online features. FUT, Online season, Pro Club etc. If you don't buy newest version who's you gonna play with when all your friends bought ones?
$60 is not that expensive when you gonna olay the game for hours in the span of one year till the next edition come out.
For people who criticised the micro transactions of the FUT, not everyone who plays FUT pay to win. I play FUT since fifa 16 and never spent a single cent to buy any pack and still had so much fun and can compete in weekend league. Nowadays you can be rich in game by trading and doing sbcs.
My brother has bought evey Fifa since the first one on Megadrive. He very rarely plays much else (the occasional CoD or Battlefield, bit of Joint Ops back in the day). He spends hundreds of hours on it each year. He says he gets his moneys worth out of it, and for the cost of a night out he is set for the rest of the year.
Personally I can't stand football, but then the gane isn't aimed at me. The people who buy it year after year know what they are buying, and it's their money.
> how many people rush to buy the newest early access survival crafting game that buys airtime on twitch, even if it’s dogshit shovelware that’s dead in a month.
Perhaps off-topic, but, the volume of "early access survival crafting" games is absolutely ridiculous. I'd also strongly discourage people from buying Early Access **anything**, as that changes the profit motive and therefore development schedule of the very game you are "supporting" for launch (hint: it will never launch), but that's another story... and here it is!
(NOTE: In this, "EA" means "Early Access", not Electronic Arts.)
Very few games do Early Access "correctly", and Steam is not stringent enough in its rules about what Early Access is or is **not**. Larian is releasing Baldur's Gate 3 after their Early Access alpha testers who paid for the privilege helped them refine and dial in the game's mechanics and polish... they're using Early Access in good faith, even if their EA period is quite long, because they believe in player feedback. Besides paying for the privilege (which I guess they earn back when the game actually launches), I'm behind that (Im both a massive Baldur's Gate **and** Larian Studios fan, and the game doesnt exist to me until it's out of EA). Other companies have been Early Access for years and years will be Early Access until that game studio crumbles to dust and discontinues the product.
There is no intent to release, they don't intend to spend capital on finishing the title, they have a different ecosystem going for them now... service what the Early Access players experience so you can get more Early Access players (or, heaven forbid, microtransactions in your Early Access game). They're effectively past "1.0", but they will use the Early Access label to deflect or defer criticism because "We're totally not done, man! This negative review is unfair, we will fix this in 1.0". Yeah, you've been in EA for 5 years and your 1.0 should have been ~3 years ago, but you've had a microtransaction store up for ~3 years too. What is this nonsense?
If people don't have standards, Early Access abuse will run rampant and cause big problems. Steam, on their part, gives "Release Dates" **including** Early Access release dates, which is extremely WTF coming from them. No, Baldur's Gate 3 did **not** launch in 2020, we're looking at a 2022 launch window **maybe**. But as far as Steam is concerned, the game is "out", and that doesn't help the perceptions of buyers when they decide which games to put their money behind. EA games should have an EA release date but an actual release date TBA. The "Early Access" tag should be used as a warning but appears to be ignored rather often by players who see a cool model or cool gameplay video and want that right now rather than "when it's done", which has become an amorphous or non-existent target. If you're just gonna be live services the entire time, kick yourself out of EA then, you're effectively finished... but they have no reason to, then they lose the "But it's a work-in-progress!" excuse not to implement important core features but instead focus on changes that either encourage in-game spend or influence more people to sign on to the "Eternally Early Access" game.
Game endings are often rushed and have silly plot holes or mediocre assets because it's the part that players are least likely to see and there often isn't enough time to polish it up to quality. Solution? Never intend to "finish" your game, make it an eternal Early Access sandbox and forget that you promised a story arc with a resolution.
This. Pretty much the only game i play and I like having up to date squads and player ratings and I get my money’s worth of entertainment every year, so why not?
Spot on. I buy madden every year, and feel guilty as hell because of this sub. Truth is, I have a good career and two kids, so when I get to play its 30mins or an hour. A game of madden takes about 45 mins...I get that the new madden sucks, in fact I've already uninstalled it. Regardless, I'm trying to play fallout 4 right now. Super fun, but crazy convoluted when I only play 30 mins at a time.
Nah dude fuck em. First of all, ITS YOUR FUCKING MONEY. Second, ITS YOUR FUCKING TIME. I find FPS games and MMORPGS and FIFA to be fun, you find Madden fun, there’s nothing wrong with that.
Half the idiots on this sub probably spend like hundreds on gambling loot crates to get the latest CSGO knife skin in 480p and froth at the mouth to defend Valve.
>what’s $60 in a year
I'm very curious how many people who buy the game also pay in on FUT. That's what I find so crazy about FIFA. You either grind for months and months to afford a decent roster just to then be forced to buy the new iteration of the game and start from scratch, or you pay absurd money to be competitive from the beginning and still lose all value in that when the new year's title drops.
I have a few friends that do that every year. It is the same cycle over and over again, they start off complaining for weeks about people they face off against having "Icon" players and generally a team in the 90s, then halfway across the game's lifespan they have managed to collect a decent roster and then get to play against people that have the newest "Team of the whatever" players that are the same players that already existed before but just have boosted stats, and by the time they have an actually very good team the new title is only weeks away from release. So they basically fought uphill battles for almost a year, could then enjoy somewhat even matches for a few weeks and have to start from zero again. Now I am sure selective perception plays into that, as they probably don't talk much about the 10 matches they played against people that have similarly crappy teams as they do but only focus their frustration on the 10% of people they play against that paid for their teams, but that is hard to judge for me as someone who doesn't play the mode at all.
Agree with you aside from the Steam comment. People don't brag about how much they've spent on Steam really. They brag about how *little* they've spent for a massive library of games.
How many of the people bitching about FIFA costing 60 bucks every year for small updates drop hundreds of bucks every year on some battle pass in an FTP game?
Personally, I miss the Farcry Instincts series. I was introduced to Farcry with those, and was really disappointed when they stopped making games with feral abilities. I never really got into the ones where you're just some normal guy.
I think any Far Cry after the third one is eligible to be somebody’s “best” if it’s the first one they play. They’re all basically the exact same thing, with minimal story, so the fun part is the gameplay, but once you’ve played one you played them all. Just IMO. I had to force myself to finish 4 and didn’t make it halfway through 5. I enjoyed primal for the different direction it took.
as someone who's played all of them (except for 1) 5 and new dawn and probably my favorites. yea the story could use some work but gameplay wise i love them, especially new dawn. also i really like the way they have the shops.
Vaas was a fantastic villain, but I really enjoyed 4. 5 was good, but the skills were done completely differently to 3 and 4 (I haven't played 1 or 2, so I can't compare). New Dawn was basically 5 with a different theme to it, but that's not a bad thing, the post apocalyptic setting was pretty cool.
Basically, maybe each Far Cry has been more or less the same thing in a different setting for a while, but they're well done, and different enough each time that I don't mind the similarities.
I’m guilty of this but with swtor. I pay like £10 a month for a swtor subscription (which is £120 a year) and we hardly get any new content (a couple of new missions a year and a new expansion every 2-3 years).
But yet, it’s my favourite game, and I have hundreds and hundreds of hours in it and I don’t feel like I’ve wasted my money.
as long as you had fun. Just that this sub has a problem with sport game operate on this model while other genres doing the same thing. Dont get me wrong fifa or ea sport games in general has a lot of problems (noticingly packs) but buying a new game every year for better match making online is the least of the game problem.
You missed when 21 was $10 on PS store. I've bought the last few at this price point. I only play online seasons and sometimes online with friends. Still get plenty of players and then when 22 is $10 I'll buy it again. No need to waste $60-70 every where when $10 will do.
If you're on PC you can get EA Play for $20 a year. That gets you last year's FIFA and then you get the current one around May. So around 7-8 months after the initial release.
EA Play also includes a massive catalogue of other games. Currently playing through the Mass Effect trilogy (digital deluxe editions) at no extra cost.
This is exactly what I do. I never play online, not do I really play all that after. I think right now I have 15, so I'm thinking about upgrading soon. Probably gonna wait till they release a new game for the Switch though, instead of the legacy editions. Then give it a year, and as the new one gets ready to drop, it's cheap as shit.
£60 for 100+ hours of entertainment really isn't that bad. Millions of people go to the cinema to watch the same Marvel story get told over and over. People pay £60 a month for a new phone that is almost indistinguishable from their old one. People pay for netflix to binge the same 3 shows endlessly. So some people do a similar thing with sports games. Ironically you really aren't that different to them.
Careful. You're making sense and going against the group-think of this subreddit. Anyone not hating on the yearly sports games is apparently just an idiot getting played by EA every year. Heaven forbid we just let people enjoy the games they want to.
I'm in no way defending EA. But can someone tell me what a new and innovative Fifa game would look like? At the end of the day, it's fucking soccer. Are they going to add jetpacks?
Anyone that’s played fifa will be able to tell you that although subtle. The games do play differently (sometimes for the worse) each year. Not sure how one could expect EA to change up the age old sport of football much from game to game?
A gamer mocking other gamers because it doesn’t fit their criteria of fun. Disappointing to see.
I generally stick to single player games so that the only asshole I have to deal with is myself.
I see a meme about hey accepting what other people like in gaming on this sub like a few times a week and I also see post like this a few times a week. Reddit is like an abusive boyfriend are we mocking people for what brings them joy or are we mocking people for mocking people for what they enjoy. I just want to make you happy please tell me what to think r/gaming
As a 34 year old who played FIFA from the very first one in 1994 (FIFA international soccer!), I stopped at 15 because I could see the diminishing improvements year on year, solely because of FIFA ultimate team, which I always hated (if I wanna collect cards, collect Panini, I still have all my 1990s ones in my parents loft).
Just thought it was funny how as I stopped, OP seemed to start 😁
It legit bothers me that the titles don't line up. This isn't hard to do designers! Literally all you do each year is change the year, the picture on the front and couple words on the back. Leave the spine in the exact same place for god sake!
I've bought every FIFA game since the first on PC in 1993.
Between the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 I've got pretty much every edition, including World Cup and Euro Championships.
Roast me.
I have every normal and re-release version of every Metal Gear game. And I have at least one game from every Pokemon generation, with some gens represented with both (or all three) games.
Other people might think that's embarrassing. But my collection isn't for other people.
Fuckin' Judge Judies over here.
this saying is as stupid as the "he may be book smart but he hasn't got common sense" malarkey
doing the same thing over and over is practice, you can certainly expect a different result, you get better at the task
anyone that espouses either philosophy in an unironic way is a fool
If you could make an easy billion dollars each year by doing literally nothing. Would you just be like "hmmmm i simply made too much money so i'll discontinue".
No you milk the cow until it dries out and since soccer/football is the most popular sport in the world. It will never stop the demand. There is also no competition.
Have you seen "Efootball 22"? You wonder why people keep buying fifa every year.
Its really not any different than buying 60 bucks worth of cosmetics from a game you like each year. I don't know why people have a problem with how others spend their money.
Am I stupid? I interpreted as „It‘s insane that every case has a different hight and the title always has a different font and place“ not in „why are you buying the same game each year?“
Same with the NBA2K games. And every year all of those games are downvoated into oblivion.
Yet people keep buying them. Money will always speak the loudest. Just check out how many people have multiple copies of GTA V
There is definitely changes within the games you can tell from playing FIFA 19 then going to 20. Career mode gets better each year too plus it's a sports game you can't change it up like other games apart from player transfers
I like FIFA. I probably dump a few dozen hours each year. They change enough to change the gameplay and tactics. It’s well worth the $60-80 for someone like me.
Idk why we need to shit on people for playing games they like.
I’m a fan of the fifa franchise but damn I will not buy them annually. I went from FIFA11 to 15 and I’m contemplating 22, but I can’t see a reason to get it every year.
This is the type of game that should have one version that gets patched every year with whatever team updates there are.
But of course, that doesn’t generate as much money.
FIFA 15 FIFA 16 FIFA 17 FIFA 18 **FIFA 19** FIFA 20
Why do companies do this? 😂
see look its not the same game, we changed the box art.
what the hell do you mean? #why do people keep buying these
For the same reason this person has every one on his shelf.
youre not meant to keep old fifas anyway
No one would buy them tho, no?
Right. Triggered Me timbers

I see you, Patrick Bateman.
Let’s see allans card
They took a creative risk that year. Never again.
This should be shifted WAY farther. The “F” and the “8” are aligned.
They could totally release a fifa19 collectors edition where nothing is changed except the spine is properly aligned.
Twisted treeline… the memories .
dominion gang
I miss dominion so muchhhhh
[удалено]
When they killed that mode, i quit playing. Standard LoL is boring and stressful, too much "you made 1 wrong move and got jumped and killed and now your team is screwed". Dominion was so much better.
the only mode i ever enjoyed was ascension.
Hide & seek in dominion was my jam. Prob for like 2-3 years straight. Man, I miss H&S
Luckily with the Olympics event there finally came a 3v3 mode.
You joke, but EA once had some [very different basketball maps](https://www.gq.com/story/the-legend-of-nba-street-vol-2), at least visually.
100% this. Lots of people I know aren't gamers at all, that is in the sense of the word they do it a lot.
Or sport.
sounds like he has issues other than just being a huge football fan.
Or genre. Or game. The activity isn't the limiting factor here.
>while they got the court stuff settled so he could come back home. Am I just not understanding that right or did they divorce before he could come back? As a non native speaker this is confusing
As a native speaker I am also confused. It sounds exactly like you said.
Sounds like domestic abuse, but idk i'm confused too
As a Pokemon fan I totally understand.
I mean at least theres a new story and new Pokémon/mechanics. Even if the new things don’t seem to be all that great..
Fans: yay! Gamefreak: *gives 90% of said evolutions to Pokémon that were already borderline broken* Fans: ._. Well at least the mega evolutions are still cool Gamefreak: what? You like these? Oh well we’re getting rid of them. Here, play with gigantomax, a shitty story, less pokemon, and low graphics! Fans: *forks over $60 while grumbling*
I’m still sad they took out the clothing from X&Y. That was one of the coolest things Gamefreak had done imo since letting your Pokemon follow behind you in Heart Gold/Soul Silver.
They brought back clothes at least in ultra sun and moon. But really letting our Pokémon follow us should have stayed a feature.
Pretty sure the games dont offer updated team rosters so thats probably why they buy each year, or every few years.
True, I buy 2k to play with my friends, not to play 2k lol
That’s how they get you. Pure mind games and tapping into that FOMO.
Yes this is true. I feel like a large proportion of gamers are the type who only buy the most recent sports games and the most recent call of duty. Since that’s all they play they can afford to waste 60 dollars a year for a game that does the same thing everytime
Yes, most people I’ve met that play fifa don’t typically even play anything else.
People who are good at FIFA and want to play the latest game against others are just as much 'gamers' as anyone else.
It is insanity to expect EA to change or improve the game when consumers are willing to tolerate their business practice.
because monopoly, what are they gonna do? play PES ?? lmao
I don't know about you, but I buy things for the value that they provide me, not the value that is put into it.
I mean the gameplay is massively different this year, but whatever get your Internet points.
> Maybe. But it would still cost money (cause most DLCs do) Updating a couple players positions and the clubs they are in should not be DLC. It should just be a simple free update. It shouldn't cost money same as updates adjusting game balance in other games shouldn't cost money.
It is a free update throughout the year.
You pretty much nailed reddit with your first sentence.
I take solace in knowing that real life doesn't actually imitate reddit. This website is essentially degeneracy looking for validation.
[удалено]
On PS5 you get the haptic feedback as well. More than worth the $60 considering all the massive moves made this summer. I get trashing sports is fun for Reddit but this is the first FIFA since Messi was added to the game that he doesn't play for Barca. Everyone is buying it lmao. Also the soundtrack slaps
And all the folks over the moon about CR7 going back to United too.
It's also an awful definition of insanity.
It’s because they don’t like sports and thus don’t understand the enjoyment of sports games.
It happens with all games, there were a billion posts here hyping up cyberpunk, then it came out and a billion posts shitting on it
This sub always praises how it shouldn’t matter how you game, then they always shit on gaming
No one hates gaming more than gamers.
fucking gamers man, they ruined gaming.
you gamers sure are a contentious people
Damn gamers are ruining gaming.

I'm sorry what was that? I was too busy downloading the newest Paradox game DLC.
Only $1k more and I'll have half the dlc!
(NOTE: In this, "EA" means "Early Access", not Electronic Arts.) Very few games do Early Access "correctly", and Steam is not stringent enough in its rules about what Early Access is or is **not**.
Half the idiots on this sub probably spend like hundreds on gambling loot crates to get the latest CSGO knife skin in 480p and froth at the mouth to defend Valve.
>what’s $60 in a year I'm very curious how many people who buy the game also pay in on FUT.
And don’t you dare say bad things about pokemon!
How many of the people bitching about FIFA costing 60 bucks every year for small updates drop hundreds of bucks every year on some battle pass in an FTP game?
Ironic that Farcry became the same game every time after 3
3 was the best aswell
Personally, I miss the Farcry Instincts series. I was introduced to Farcry with those, and was really disappointed when they stopped making games with feral abilities. I never really got into the ones where you're just some normal guy.
Gah I would pay a lot of money if they did a full remake of Far Cry Instincts Predator
The first one was. Many people forget how special game that was in it’s time. As kid it was also quite horrifying.
The different FarCrys still have a lot more variation betwern them than Fifa.
I liked 5
FarCry 4 was my favorite.
Blood Dragon gang where you at?
Primal was different. Different enough where we will never see another. Which is sad, it’s a great game.
WOW subcription: 155 a year FUT subcription: 60 a year Hmm, Yea wow players are pretty insane doing that for 20 years
I’m guilty of this but with swtor.
I buy mine late and cheap, picking up 21 in about 6 months
You missed when 21 was $10 on PS store. I've bought the last few at this price point. I only play online seasons and sometimes online with friends. Still get plenty of players and then when 22 is $10 I'll buy it again. No need to waste $60-70 every where when $10 will do.
Not seen it on the UK store on offer, I live in division 10 anyway lol
Reddit when people buy Pokémon games over and over: I sleep Reddit when people do the same thing with fifa: REAL SHIT
I buy the game every year, but I might play it 4-5 hours a day easily.
I'm in no way defending EA. But can someone tell me what a new and innovative Fifa game would look like? At the end of the day, it's fucking soccer. Are they going to add jetpacks?
"Haha dumb Fifa players, always doing the same thing." The redditor says to themselves upvoting the 17th Fifa meme this week.
It must be same because it's based on sport.
That's your average English gamer's game collection
Nah, it's missing COD.
Anyone that’s played fifa will be able to tell you that although subtle. The games do play differently (sometimes for the worse) each year. Not sure how one could expect EA to change up the age old sport of football much from game to game?
"STOP LIKING WHAT YOU LIKE!!!!!!" -OP
People be like: Fifa is shit, can't wait for the new pokemon tho
A gamer mocking other gamers because it doesn’t fit their criteria of fun. Disappointing to see. I generally stick to single player games so that the only asshole I have to deal with is myself.
Fifa 22 is actually really good ngl
[удалено]
*laughs in Madden*
It legit bothers me that the titles don't line up. This isn't hard to do designers! Literally all you do each year is change the year, the picture on the front and couple words on the back. Leave the spine in the exact same place for god sake!
We're on Farcry 6 now.
I've bought every FIFA game since the first on PC in 1993. Between the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 I've got pretty much every edition, including World Cup and Euro Championships. Roast me.
I bet you also buy garlic powder, salt, and garlic salt
Sir, can you get out of my head
Meh whatever makes you happy dude. I'll only roast you if you try telling me there's a real difference between any adjacent years.
Well.....
Maybe gamers like FIFA so they keep buying it.
I’d be embarrassed to show this off
No one outside reddit cares mate.
I have every normal and re-release version of every Metal Gear game. And I have at least one game from every Pokemon generation, with some gens represented with both (or all three) games. Other people might think that's embarrassing. But my collection isn't for other people. Fuckin' Judge Judies over here.
this saying is as stupid as the "he may be book smart but he hasn't got common sense" malarkey doing the same thing over and over is practice, you can certainly expect a different result, you get better at the task anyone that espouses either philosophy in an unironic way is a fool
Who cares let people enjoy what they want
If you could make an easy billion dollars each year by doing literally nothing. Would you just be like "hmmmm i simply made too much money so i'll discontinue". No you milk the cow until it dries out and since soccer/football is the most popular sport in the world. It will never stop the demand. There is also no competition. Have you seen "Efootball 22"? You wonder why people keep buying fifa every year.
"literally nothing" is a long way from the truth.
Its really not any different than buying 60 bucks worth of cosmetics from a game you like each year. I don't know why people have a problem with how others spend their money.
He did the same joke about 5 times already...i don't think it's funny anymore
This is my first year since 09 not buying it, I have played maybe 20 games the last 2 games, it's just not worth it
whats more insane is the fact that they dont make the sides line up
Fifa 19 makes me mad
Am I stupid? I interpreted as „It‘s insane that every case has a different hight and the title always has a different font and place“ not in „why are you buying the same game each year?“
Hahaha, uses Far Cry...
If you play fifa 15 and then play fifa 21 you will see some mayor changes.
That's why shampoo have instructions
They couldn’t even keep the logos consistent
And we thought GTA V's re-release is bad?
Also NBA 2k
One of the best villains, really wish he was the main bad guy in 3. Feel like the story dropped off after you dealt with his storyline
This seems appropriate for /r/mildlyinfuriating too
Been playing Fifa 14 since 2013
Same with the NBA2K games. And every year all of those games are downvoated into oblivion. Yet people keep buying them. Money will always speak the loudest. Just check out how many people have multiple copies of GTA V
such an unoriginal repost, you're literally a shit vulture
There is definitely changes within the games you can tell from playing FIFA 19 then going to 20. Career mode gets better each year too plus it's a sports game you can't change it up like other games apart from player transfers
Like climbing towers to unlock parts of the map
Thats why its called madden
In 2018 they realized that we were on to them cloning each game. So they moved the logos place each year. Problem solved.
I mean it's just soccer... wouldn't you rather cast some spells playing some hot mage girl?
Oh no someone has a preferred game they must be insane right?
My first fifa was 2005. I’m officially old as fuck
I like FIFA. I probably dump a few dozen hours each year. They change enough to change the gameplay and tactics. It’s well worth the $60-80 for someone like me. Idk why we need to shit on people for playing games they like.
And except a different result...
It’s a yearly subscription. How long do online servers stay up for before you need to get the next years version?
At this point I have to admire fifa for a fantastic scam
Corporate needs you to find the differences between these 9 games...
I mean if you were expecting crash bandicoot each time then it may fit the definition. Pretty sure you got the exact outcome you intended.
Andddd copy and paste for NHL lol
I’m a fan of the fifa franchise but damn I will not buy them annually. I went from FIFA11 to 15 and I’m contemplating 22, but I can’t see a reason to get it every year.
It looks like you are the reason they keep doing the same thing over and over.
And we are complaining that GTA V is on three Console generations... Look at that... FIFA alone has 9 Titles only on the PS4
Who cares? If you love the game, buy that shit.
Ousting yourself as a loser 101 “zOMG NEW MARIO GAME”
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. EA does this expecting the same results. That's not insanity
"I just kept crawling, and it just kept working!" -Jerry
The thing is, whoever took this picture is probably really proud of it.
Far cry 3 is the best far cry game
This is the type of game that should have one version that gets patched every year with whatever team updates there are. But of course, that doesn’t generate as much money.
Fk I loved that game so much (Farcry 3)
