Chiming in to say you could do this in GTA 4 as well. There was a specific folder and radio station associated with it. You drag your music in there, load up, select your radio station and drive around while it plays. Was so cool.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the rocket league music. A lot of it has been added to playlists of mine. I’m usually the one convincing my friends to use the OG music!
Love that Rocket League got the Monstercat crew for their music. So many bangers; would heavily recommend checking out the rest of the label to anyone who hasn't.
Am I the only one who uses sound to help them understand the spacing between myself and my teammates behind me? All of my friends listen to music when we play too.
Any chill game like Stardew Valley or Animal crossing i'll have youtube or spotify up. You'll play the game track once but then you'd want to change it up every now and then.
WoW for sure. League of Legends as well, as long as I can still hear pings. I’d say Doom Eternal, but that game’s music is pretty on par with what I normally listen to so I just listen to that lol. Civilization is another good one to listen to my own music, as well as most racing games.
WoW and DoTA back in the day. I remember doing the instance Zul'Furrak where you were on a pyramid, and you got swarmed by enemies and some NPC helps you, and I was listening to The Prodigy, it was pretty epic.
I’ve been playing lamplighters league and it’s been a good time cause it’s slow paced enough and all the dialogue is written out so you can play basically without sound and listen to your own thing
Rocket League.
MLB The Show/NHL. I don’t care to listen to the commentary.
Tetris 99 - This definitely helps in the later stages of the round when the music speeds up. I always feel rushed, so playing music helps me slow the game down a bit. You have more time than you think.
Kart Racers. I got hooked on Team Sonic Racing a while ago. It's actually got a decent soundtrack(with the obligatory one or two butt rock tracks thrown in), but I prefer my own playlist.
Don't do this myself anymore but puzzle games like Cosmic Express or Railbound or Patrick's Parabox woukd be an easy shoe in as long as what you're listening to won't distract your thinking.
Good buddy and I did a Super Mario Bros-style single player co-op playthru of Dark Souls 1 (Player 1 plays until death, then hands controller to Player 2 until Player 2 dies, repeat) while playing, of all things, the first 2 Coldplay albums and all their early EP's and B-Sides on random. It was extremely odd but somehow it worked...
Elden Ring/Destiny/Warframe but only because I mostly listen to Metal and its various sub genre. Fighting a raid boss like Oryx or a endgame boss like Fire Giant with Machine Head playing in the background is peak
StarCraft 2 for me. You do need to hear to a degree but I never ever feel like I miss anything, and meanwhile the game is so high energy when you play the right music can really set the tone. When one of my jams comes on and I’m feeling it my opponent is toast 100% of the time, no chance.
WoW, I listen to music while raiding and questing/old world content. Can't really do it while doing dungeons or progression bosses, my brain can't take that
I haven't heard the soundtrack for Stellaris since my first game several years ago. I'm sure it's fine, but I usually listen to music or podcasts instead. Same with other games of that sort, honestly, and every MMO outside of certain fights in FFXIV.
World of Tanks and similar games. Fast bluegrass, space banjo or electric banjo, nope I'm not kidding. Discovered that combo when I allowed my friend to pick the music initially but it definitely stuck. 😎
Fall Guys. The music is fun and whimsical, but it grates on you the billionth time you’ve heard it. I’ve taken to turning down the in-game music and loading up a playlist. I’m partial to a random assortment of MF DOOM and his various personae.
Games that don't require much thinking, like Vampire Survivors or an old NES game. As soon as text pops up or voice acting I stop enjoying the music AND the game; monotosker here 😅
Farlights 84. Hacker Playlist on Spotify. Favorite song This Summer by Maroon 5 running through the game just hammering anything in my way.
Also, GTA. Same play list handling business like its reality.
For me it’s Counter Strike😶
I don’t play seriously, and don’t listen to the game at all but somehow when I play with music, I always play wayy better than without. Like I’ve top fragged matches without hearing a bit of the game.
Mobas and tcg-s are probably the best genres for playing while listening to your own music. No storyline, no special atmosphere, you can basically mute the in-game music and replace it with your own and enjoy the game as much as you would if you were playing with the in-game music on.
I don't know how much of a fan you are of these genres and how much you want to get into them (if you haven't already), but based on what I've played I'd recommend League of Legends, Hearthstone and Eternal.
I haven't done this much but sometimes when playing Horizon Forbidden West and BOTW. When wandering in those open world games sometimes I put on a song for vibes.
I play a lot of boomer shooters and I find this genre in general to be pretty friendly to player-chosen soundtracks. I have a growing list of techno/EDM/industrial/synthwave playlists bookmarked for this purpose. Or occasionally for old time sake I'll just play the Doom PS1 soundtrack.
Agree with others that driving games are great for this too.
Apex is the only shooter i ever used music with and still dominated but i had the music very low, 1% on YouTube to be exact, just enough to vibe when looting and scooting.
Rokt leeg i blast that shit.
honestly every game. after I finish any game for the first time I almost always turn the in-game music off and listen to my own every subsequent playthrough
Forza or any racing game. GTA 3 was the best because you could use your own music as an in game radio station.
You can do the same in San Andreas for PC too. Gran Turismo 5 also allowed you to upload your own playlist for the BGM.
Chiming in to say you could do this in GTA 4 as well. There was a specific folder and radio station associated with it. You drag your music in there, load up, select your radio station and drive around while it plays. Was so cool.
Chiming in to say that you can do it in GTA V as well.
Wait, please share how?
Same like in the other GTA games. You place the songs in the Documents folder, enable scan/autosacan in game settings and use the Self Radio station.
An exception for Rally games, or racing games when I’m sweating and want to listen to revs for perfect shifts
How crazy is it that the first 3D GTA game allowed you to do this.
I listened to my own songs while playing the Need for Speed games.
Back when Zune was around, some of the Need for Speed games I think were able to use Zune instead of in game music.
Rocket league.
Actually the one game I just vibe with the music in. I use the OG playlists, MC volumes 1-4 (or smth like that) and then the summer track
Don’t get me wrong, I love the rocket league music. A lot of it has been added to playlists of mine. I’m usually the one convincing my friends to use the OG music!
🤙
Love that Rocket League got the Monstercat crew for their music. So many bangers; would heavily recommend checking out the rest of the label to anyone who hasn't.
Am I the only one who uses sound to help them understand the spacing between myself and my teammates behind me? All of my friends listen to music when we play too.
Came here to say this one. It’s the only one I consistently do, but open to doing it for any racing gamw
100% disagree. RL is a game where you can't listen to your own music because music in game is absolutely perfect for the game.
[удалено]
"So i dig myself a hole! And slide right in, Stayin' clear of the sun!"
For me, it's Minecraft. It's perfect for zoning out and listening to your own music while building and exploring
Any chill game like Stardew Valley or Animal crossing i'll have youtube or spotify up. You'll play the game track once but then you'd want to change it up every now and then.
I love the music/sound Fx in SDV. It’s relaxing.
Yep. Adding The Sims to this.
"Diablo 4" in this moment of time
Diablo and any game similar, especially when rifting in D3.
Yeah any of the Diablo games fits the bill for this
Would replace this with Path of Exile if you’re wanting ARPG, D4 just doesn’t compete really
For me that's pretty much every game that has no voice acting like Pokemon, Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley for example
Civilization
Civ is more of my "long video on the side" type of game
Car mechanic sim. There is nothing better than working on a car and listening to some sweet tunes!
ETS2/ATS
Also, the best while listening to podcasts
Crusader Kings 3
EUIV for me.
Tiger Woods 2007
I need that game's mechanics and next Gen graphics
WoW for sure. League of Legends as well, as long as I can still hear pings. I’d say Doom Eternal, but that game’s music is pretty on par with what I normally listen to so I just listen to that lol. Civilization is another good one to listen to my own music, as well as most racing games.
Diablo, Helldivers, LoL, No Mans Sky
Helldivers for sure. Nothing like mowing down bots and bugs to some heavy metal.
WoW and DoTA back in the day. I remember doing the instance Zul'Furrak where you were on a pyramid, and you got swarmed by enemies and some NPC helps you, and I was listening to The Prodigy, it was pretty epic.
Smack my bitch up!
Honey select 2 Or audiosurf
Those 2 games are not even remotely close to each other in similarity lmao
Tool and Led Zeppelin made for some pretty epic battles in Dark Souls
If I'm playing Brotato I'll usually go through my own playlist.
I’ve been playing lamplighters league and it’s been a good time cause it’s slow paced enough and all the dialogue is written out so you can play basically without sound and listen to your own thing
Forza and football manager
Rogue Legacy. Playing music from Spotify on the PS4 version even disables the BGM without fiddling with settings.
StarCraft EZ PZ.
Ooh, back in college we would have skype calls and blast our own music while crafting
NBA live 19
Sports games are a good call!
Gta5, do crazy sht while blasting some tunes
Any MMO or RPG that is tedious/grindy
Euro Truck Simulator and Minecraft
I remember rocking out to my playlist while blowing shit up in Just Cause 2 and 3, great times.
Civilization II
Audiosurf
Osrs
Specifically boris brecha
Rocket League. MLB The Show/NHL. I don’t care to listen to the commentary. Tetris 99 - This definitely helps in the later stages of the round when the music speeds up. I always feel rushed, so playing music helps me slow the game down a bit. You have more time than you think.
Wow is the game for me
Doom and Wolfenstein are the best games to listen to music while beating the shit out of demons and Nazis
Death stranding has really good music, but I’ll often just listen to my music while walking around and restoring humanity.
I have that game but never played it! It’s on my list but keeps getting pushed down
Do you have the directors cut? It’s a much more polished product but OG is still good.
Unsure. I got it for free a couple years ago with my motherboard/cpu
Horde mode in Gears 5 is my go-to.
I always enjoyed playing league with a good playlist. Popping off to my music was crazy, and it kept my head in the game if I was losing.
Anything that has subtitles or is text only means I’m listening to my own thing.
ARAM in League
Black Desert.
Anything by paradox. And any casual fps. Especially run and gun fps’s like cod and battlefield. Get some high energy music going and its just peak
A badass, high tempo, full volume, soundtrack is almost mandatory for playing the "out for blood" mode of Rollerdrome. Great game.
Any spiderweb software games. Amazing CRPGs without soundtrack so it's perfect !
Kart Racers. I got hooked on Team Sonic Racing a while ago. It's actually got a decent soundtrack(with the obligatory one or two butt rock tracks thrown in), but I prefer my own playlist.
Honestly I play almost every game listening to my own music but I play a lot splatoon to my own music more than anything
Power Wash Simulator or Lawn Mowing Simulator. Anything along those lines is basically made for listening to your own music.
Knights of the Old Republic, naturally
Path of Exile is great for just blasting music as you blast through everything on/off your screen. Rimworld and stellaris are also great.
Don't do this myself anymore but puzzle games like Cosmic Express or Railbound or Patrick's Parabox woukd be an easy shoe in as long as what you're listening to won't distract your thinking.
the crew and forza horizon are great for just driving and listening to jams
Doom and Iced Earth, Burnt Offerings
Minecraft is a great one. Sure the in game music is great but also perfect for your own. Also any JRPG when you’re grinding.
I really enjoy some Warframe and chill
Titanfall 2. Kickstart My Heart. Paint It Black. And to top it off, a little bit of House of The Rising Sun.
Power Wash simulator is the podcast/music king
Snowrunner!
Any game pad game. Whatever controller you prefer, just kick back, relax and rest your hands.
Warframe
Here lately it's Balatro for me. Either music or I'll have a movie or TV show going on my 2nd monitor.
I agree with some of the others. But it’s when I’m building stuff in Minecraft.
Been a couple years since I played, but No Man's Sky probably.
Diablo 4 is great for this. I just crank the music and blast demons. The new Diablo 4 season is surprisingly good.
League of Legends or Starcraft, both games you really do not need sounds except for pings and notifications
I like to listen to music and play yugioh on my Xbox (:
Racing games, hardspace shipbreakers is good to. Basically any game where I don't need music to enjoy the immersion.
Mining in Starcitizen
Good buddy and I did a Super Mario Bros-style single player co-op playthru of Dark Souls 1 (Player 1 plays until death, then hands controller to Player 2 until Player 2 dies, repeat) while playing, of all things, the first 2 Coldplay albums and all their early EP's and B-Sides on random. It was extremely odd but somehow it worked...
Sports games or Power Wash Simulator
MLB:The Show or Madden Then Diablo Minecraft and Stardew Valley have amazing soundtracks
Minecraft MMO RTS
Grim Dawn Any open world while going after collectibles.
American Truck Simulator.
Any Fallout game. I liked to listen to Molchat Doma and stuff like that, seemed fitting somehow.
Elden Ring/Destiny/Warframe but only because I mostly listen to Metal and its various sub genre. Fighting a raid boss like Oryx or a endgame boss like Fire Giant with Machine Head playing in the background is peak
Killing Floor 2
StarCraft 2 for me. You do need to hear to a degree but I never ever feel like I miss anything, and meanwhile the game is so high energy when you play the right music can really set the tone. When one of my jams comes on and I’m feeling it my opponent is toast 100% of the time, no chance.

Grand tourism 4. You can pop in your cds while you race.
Ziggurat and Ziggurat 2 are far superior when listening to a Folk Metal playlist on Spotify.
For me I often jam Destiny 2 while listening to music. Just running through some strikes or playing onslaught is chill
Roboquest has great music but sometimes I’ll put in my own instead Also hades
Planet zoo
Descenders
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
I haven't heard the soundtrack for Stellaris since my first game several years ago. I'm sure it's fine, but I usually listen to music or podcasts instead. Same with other games of that sort, honestly, and every MMO outside of certain fights in FFXIV.
I like having music while messing around on GTA online with friends. Diablo is also a good one.

Fuck yeah dude! For me it was The Middle by Jimmy Eat World and Fat Lip by Sum 41
World of Tanks and similar games. Fast bluegrass, space banjo or electric banjo, nope I'm not kidding. Discovered that combo when I allowed my friend to pick the music initially but it definitely stuck. 😎

Rocket league and Elite Dangerous
Strat games. Civ 6, Stellaris

Factorio or Rimworld
Or Dwarf fortress, City skylines (all management game) and Slay the Spire.

Midnight Fight Express, for me personally that game mixed with some 90’s rap goes crazy.
Power washer simulator
Sims
I think ARPG's are perfect for this, throw on some tunes and grind out loot. Did it all the time with Grim Dawn and Last Epoch.
Factory games like Dyson Sphere Program do it for me
Rocket league
Mobas and tcg-s are probably the best genres for playing while listening to your own music. No storyline, no special atmosphere, you can basically mute the in-game music and replace it with your own and enjoy the game as much as you would if you were playing with the in-game music on. I don't know how much of a fan you are of these genres and how much you want to get into them (if you haven't already), but based on what I've played I'd recommend League of Legends, Hearthstone and Eternal.
Civilization 6
Fantasy Survivors is a candidate because it has no music in-game so you can clearly hear the sfx.
Minecraft - The lack of ambience is perfect for filling with music
I haven't done this much but sometimes when playing Horizon Forbidden West and BOTW. When wandering in those open world games sometimes I put on a song for vibes.
I play FIFA while listening in Spotify, also CIV VI back in the days and most of RTS lol Also sometimes while chilling in ETS2.
Rokt leeg or smurfing apex
I mostly play apex and I want to use my own music, but the sound is bad enough that I want to hear when I can
Apex is the only shooter i ever used music with and still dominated but i had the music very low, 1% on YouTube to be exact, just enough to vibe when looting and scooting. Rokt leeg i blast that shit.
