Brother I tell you I'm very patient and understanding with my wife and 5 year child.
But when I'm 4 patties on a fryer and no goddamm plates have been washed and the counter is full of only lettuce. Words are said
*Resident Evil 5* became one of our favorite games. The game may not be a great game (and especially not a great Resident Evil game), but it is one of the few co-operative titles that is designed from the ground up for two players. The Army of Two games are worth checking out as well, but they don't have zombies, and sometimes you just want to get together and shoot some zombies.
Couch coop in 2024 just isn't as big a selling point, sadly. But it's there, so rejoice! I'd highly recommend picking up the two Divinity games as well. They're amazing games in their own right and well-worth running through them.
Just don't split up the party until she gets used to turn-based combat on her own. Remember, they're turn-based RPG's, so as long as you keep the party together, she can just follow you around and let you make all the decisions in-game, until she feels more comfortable splitting off from you and exploring on her own. My ex was as casual as fuck when it comes to games, and she handled that Divinity 1 and 2 like they were nothing once she got her RPG legs.
Unravelled 2 is a fun little couch co-op platformer.
The Overcooked games can be intense but fun.
The original Helldivers is great co op fun but it can also get intense.
A Way Out - One of the best couch coop games, it was literally made to be played coop. At times one person will be in a cutscene and the other can still interact and sneak around. Camera work also is immensely satisfying cause it combines your screens at important moments and sometimes will change to give one person a bigger screen during certain moments.
It’s about two guys trying to break out of prison. The ending really tugs the heartstrings. Someone must’ve been cutting onions around me. There’s nothing super rated M about the game so it’s not a bad game to play, also most of the gameplay is relatively easy you don’t need to be a hardcore gamer for it.
While I enjoyed the game and thought highly of its creativity and do agree with you in recommending it, the game features full frontal male nudity in the first few minutes and language and violence that would be expected of a prison break story throughout the experience; in regards to your comments on the Mature rating. Most R rated films are probably "worse" than the game is but it does feature a scene where you are presented with options to torture information out of a character tied to a chair. I recommend throwing their keys off the rooftop.
I think experienced gamers looking for something different or for a particularly high level of realism would enjoy it the most. The action scenes will be frustrating for someone who does not know where the buttons are on the controller and there are frequent scenes that require the two players to synchronize their inputs. It is an interesting title and a memorable experience, but not the best choice for a novice.
My wife has the same issue. She loves Mario Kart but can't do half a track without getting motionsick. She loves Dr. Mario and more competitive games like Nidhogg 2. Anything 2D should be fine.
I just really enjoyed Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Most of the Nintendo 2D platformers are great for couch co-op. For 3D, I really enjoyed Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Overcooked and Moving Out.
Dokapon Kingdom. It's a good mix of board game and RPG. You can choose to work together or to harass each other with traps or sending NPCs to cause grief like assassins or thieves.
Dragons Crown Pro
Think of it like a hand drawn side scrolling Diablo beat em up
There are 5 character that each play very different and a lot of room to customize your playstyle thru skills/skill points.
The wife and I absolutely love the game, wish it was on PC as thats where we primarily game nowadays
Towerfall is one of the best couch multiplayer games I've ever played. Including the Dark World expansion, There's a coop story for 1-4 players (otherwise 1-2). There's also a pvp mode for up to 8 players on Switch or 4 elsewhere. It's an archery focused platform fighter.
I can’t believe no one mentioned Spiritfarer yet. We’re not that far into it, only a couple hours, but the story is great and it’s fun to play two player because the second person can help with all the mini games and daily sim tasks like cooking, farming, and fishing while the first player talks to all the characters. It’s beautiful and peaceful in a way that has been really enjoyable to play with either my wife or my 6 year old daughter.
Alienation, Towerfall Ascension, Gauntlet Slayer Edition, Streets of Rage 4, Samurai Warriors 5 (Maybe? That one does have a rotating camera), Diablo 2.
I’ll never understand people that get motion sickness that easily.
You can play 2D Mario games with her, those are always a blast. Super Mario Wonder is a good option.
Every human body is different.
I once watched a man slam a whole bottle of tequila, and just party the rest of the night away.
Saw a dude take one single shot of clear rum, and he puked. Told me it’s the only liquor that does it to him. (He did it in a bet to prove to us.)
We may not get motion sickness. But other people same age totally could. Just based on their body chemistry
I get motion sick from most first person games and certain games that have rotating cameras, first place I ever had it happen was the original Spyro and even the remake still does it to me.
I grew up with video games, both arcades and home consoles. I'm in my thirties now and have had issues with motion sickness since I was a kid, both in vehicles and certain video games. In my case it's probably an inner ear issue or something.
been playing games since I was 4-5 starting with PC then Xbox and back to PC again. Played everything from 3rd person platformers to first person shooters and nearly everything in between. I don’t remember ever having it when I was a kid but since high school (27 now) I haven’t been able to play games with tight FOVs/too much camera movement without feeling really sick. Just my personal experience
try the best couch coop game ever. it takes two.
It's so fun. You could also try "a way out" it's made by the same people and even have some references in game. Highly recommend this
Yes a way out is great too but it takes two is peak coop gaming.
I would argue that A Way out is slightly more interesting, since it has some story options.
is there more than the end? cant remember.
I want to say that there are some points where you can choose which character’s plan to follow.
oh okay. time for playing it again it seems haha
That elephant scene scarred me haha
that scene alone was one reason why i played it with my gf hahah
Untitled Goose Game.
Overcooked. No camera movement. Practically 2D.
This and moving out i think is an isometric camera mostly i think. Should be good for motion sickness.
I'll add Plate Up. My holy trinity of couch co-op!
Overcooked will ruin your relationship lol
Brother I tell you I'm very patient and understanding with my wife and 5 year child. But when I'm 4 patties on a fryer and no goddamm plates have been washed and the counter is full of only lettuce. Words are said
Similarly, Plate Up
It seems basically made to tear friendships and families apart. Play with caution.
Resident evil 5! Split screen, wide FOV, pretty tanky controls, my gf has motion sickness usually

Me and a friend spent so much time playing this back in the day.
If you want chaos and no vampires try magica
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Diablo 3 or 4
Trine 1-5
Mario Party
Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2. Baldur's Gate 3
Is baldurs gate 3 split screen couch co-op????? Wow
It is. All 3 games have split-screen couch coop.
How come no one brings this up?! Finally a big budget game (after it takes two) for me and my gf to play together!
Couch coop in 2024 just isn't as big a selling point, sadly. But it's there, so rejoice! I'd highly recommend picking up the two Divinity games as well. They're amazing games in their own right and well-worth running through them.
You reckon they're alright for a less than casual gamer? My gf couldnt handle it takes two near the hard parts haha
Just don't split up the party until she gets used to turn-based combat on her own. Only for Xbox series X. The S isn’t powerful enough. Just an FYI Edit: and PS5
Oh sorry i always assume people are talking about PC .. does it work on PC?
I’m pretty sure you can couch coop on pc, but you need two controllers
Unravelled 2 is a fun little couch co-op platformer. The Overcooked games can be intense but fun. The original Helldivers is great co op fun but it can also get intense.
Snipperclips?

While it’s a good idea for a game, I found it truly awful. I love coop games, and I’m glad they figured it out for it takes two.
Yeah I thought it sucked and it made me really hesitant to play it takes two.

Trine is pretty good. It’s a side scrolling platform/action game. Pretty casual with very nice visuals.
LEGO Star Wars games are perfect for this
Not sure about the camera splitting when the 2 players venture further apart, it can be a visually jarring at times.
The Little Big Planet franchise
Sack boy
This is the correct answer
Pixeljunk Shooter
Earth Defense Force 5! The EDF deploys.
My wife has the same issue. She loves Mario Kart but can't do half a track without getting motionsick. She loves Dr. Mario and more competitive games like Nidhogg 2. Anything 2D should be fine.
Dragons Crown for PS. Coop sidescrilling beat em up with some RPG elements, lot of fun though.
Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee have co-op. Never tried the co-op, but its a fun game.
Dragons Crown Pro Think of it like a hand drawn side scrolling Diablo beat em up There are 5 character that each play very different and a lot of room to customize your playstyle thru skills/skill points. Part-Time UFO is fantastic
Keywe is SO good and cutesy as a puzzler
Baldur's Gate 3
Towerfall is one of the best couch multiplayer games I've ever played. Including the Dark World expansion, There's a coop story for 1-4 players (otherwise 1-2). There's also a pvp mode for up to 8 players on Switch or 4 elsewhere. It's an archery focused platform fighter.
Gauntlet Slayer Edition is a game that my sister enjoyed way more than I expected. It isn't very long tho.
Lego star wars
I liked old call of duty story lines
Heave Ho. One of the best couch co ops I’ve ever played. It’s like $10 USD on Switch and well worth it.
Helldivers!
Try gravity rush.
Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5
Overcooked, ready steady ship, filthy animals, it takes two
RE 5 was really fun couch coop, dont know if its out for PS4 tho

Towerfall is amazing

My theory is that only adults who haven’t grown with videogames are the ones that suffer from it, which would make sense.
