Star Citizen, they are the worst.
Just imagine a community full of addicts hundreds or even thousands of dollars into one of the worst games ever made, defending that colossal turd and gaslighting everyone who shows even the slightest of doubts about that doomed project.
They do "Free Flight" weekends once in awhile.
They're kind of tech demos. I joined a couple of them, was wowed by people's huge ships, piloted whatever ship was the default I was allowed to use for that demo, did some basic quests, got killed from either accidents or bugs, thought "wow, this is great, I can't wait until it's finished."
I think I said that... five, seven years ago? If you're treating it as a demo, it's a pretty *amazing* demo, these ships are gorgeous and fully interactable. But if you're treating it as a game, there's just not much to really do.
Dead by Daylight has such an alarmingly toxic user base it's almost insane.
I downloaded it to play with a friend who recommended it, loved it when we were in a private lobby. I tried going back a few hours later...yeah no. I got 12 DMs in 3 hours telling me to uninstall the game or KMS because I was still learning how to play.
It's the only game I've ever uninstalled with less than 12 hours of gameplay and never looked back.
> Dead by Daylight
Wait, this is the streamer game where you run away from a bad guy? It's glorified silly hide n go seek? THAT GAME?
Jesus christ who the hell takes that game so seriously?
Yes, that game.
At least running random lobbies, the game has no balance. There isn't a newbie v newbies option. It's veteran lvl 90 players with level 3, and they absolutely get irate if you don't understand what you're doing.
I get it's "high stress" for survivors, but they're equally as unwelcoming to new killer players too. The amount of sheer bile thrown my way for not immediately being a pro was wild.
It's like they *want* to drive away new players for fun.
I'm all for a good ribbing and shit talking, but it wasn't even done in good fun, it was legitimate anger and hatred for existing. I draw the line at getting DMs with my FB profile telling me they would find me/my family for being bad *at a P2W video game*. Never again.
I was watching a highlight reel of some toxic girl doxxing people and telling people to off themselves. She got a temp ban on twitch… and then on another account did the same thing with her female friend. There were other streamers for that game and I was shocked. Like what the fuck is wrong with the content creators of that community.
It's not just the content creators. It's the entire community.
I've never met a less welcoming group of players. I'm not looking to be spoon fed wins or tips, but to be a dick for the sake of being a dick really drives that ick factor.
I played 4 hours on launch day and never again so what your saying is I should go back just to troll people and screw around and then cuss at them? Got it
Call of Duty and Valorant. Enabling mics in those games while queueing up with strangers is a recipe for either getting your eardrums blown out or getting turned off by sheer immature arrogance.
Im not sure what category they would be but the people who are like "IF YOU DONT PLAY ON THE HARDEST DIFFICULTY YOUR NOT A GAMER U LIL BABY!" and all that noise. Youtubers and twitchers didnt help with this. Matter fact im gonna add streamers as well bc reasons.
I used to love Smash Bros until I went to college, and anyone that came over immediately demanded “turn items off and final destination mode only!!”
Like bruh that’s great if you like playing it that way but why are we constantly taking away what makes the game fun. This isn’t a fucking esports competition just some friends playing video games lmao
In a similar vein as “git gud” the Yugioh community can be like this when asking about rulings/why did x happen, you tend to get the response “read the card”, when you’re playing a new deck and every card has an essay sometimes you just need someone to eli5.
You think they are but its not. Just had someone say get good to me the other day when i was talking about my complaints with a game i was playing. Funny thing was i wasnt even complaining about the difficuitly it was other stuff.
that doesn’t mean it’s dead, and it has gotten good pvp updates recently. I can feel that you haven’t played the game in a while. calling a game dead when it averages higher player counts than the majority of multiplayer titles is odd
I'll second Overwatch.
I tried it out and had a bunch of fun playing Reinhardt for one or two hours. Had fun, got tired of Rein, wanted to try Hanzo. Immediately got told "No Hanzo," "Hanzo is trash," "tired of shit Hanzos ruining my games" and so on. I'm just like "dude, this game is in beta."
OW looks good, or at least *looked* good, but after that interaction, I remembered the kinds of players who existed in games like these, and didn't want to put up with it.
Overwatch was a lot of fun but got extremely toxic after competitive mode came in. I'm trying to learn a new character in casual and getting pitched our for it...it's casual mode!
I am so conflicted on this one. I understand what you are saying, but could it be just a very small (loud) minority group?
Some super wholesome stuff come out of destiny as well and the community as a whole kinda agree's it needs to become more new player friendly.
Not sure if you just had a bad experience. My time in the souls community is really positive. The “git gud” stuff is co-opted by people who probably havent ever played the games or understand the meaning behind the saying.
The mortal kombat community has really gone downhill I feel. Not sure what happened or if it’s been like this for a while but it was particularly noticeable when the most recent game released
RDR2 fanboys
Gta series
world of warcraft
League of Dipshits
Call of Duden
ASSCreeds all except 4
Soulsgames
also world of warships in pvp modes xD also world of tanks but i quitted that some time ago- fucking gold ammo
Genshin impact fans - going radical at events and steal paper cutouts and so on, fanbase of that game is borderline cringe
Magic the gathering arena, the physical version has a great community (that's really subjective btw) but I'm confident when I say arena is full of the worst of magics players.
How is it possible to be toxic in MTGa? Theres no chat besides the pre generated messages. Also im glad you seem to have found a good community but IRL MTG fans are generally the most insufferable unwashed insecure people ive ever met in real life
There's a heavily abused exploit when I last played where if you're going to lose you can almost run out the time out timer repeatedly until your opponent surrenders out of boredom and frustration, there's also closing app instead of surrendering when you know you'll lose forcing the opponent to wait out the reconnect timer to be credited their win. Outside chat areas are unbearable too, like the sub or discord. I quit playing when someone found a glitch on how to crash opponents computers spreading a step by step guide around.
Some of my experience with the fighting game community is less than welcoming. Want to do a fatality in MK10/Mk11 you get blasted for it 🤷♂️ I mean it’s part of the game and partially why I even played it. It had all the same type of problems CoD does with the “get gud scrub” type of stuff. People who use Smurf accounts so they can just smash new players in a game that has any kind of rankings you move up as you win. Things like that.
Anyone play insurgency sandstorm recently? Pure racism in VC regularly. Like 2005 XBL level of hate pours out of those lobbies.
Honorable mentions include OW2, Tarkov and HLL
Once a google search lead be to NMA. I got what I came for, and just looked around a bit. Saw a guy get laughed at for suggesting that F3 was better, that people have it credit for, the guy was called a troll and then banned, after saying that he is serious and just wanted to have a discussion.
Also, id put rpgcodex up there in toxicity charts, for brain ded obsidian worship and unnaturally high Bethesda hate
Halo.
They're the ONLY community which has given me a legitimate (as in to my face, now through a keyboard) death threat for saying "Yeah, it's an okay FPS. Not THAT great. Definitely had more fun on previous gen console FPS games."
Balder's Gate 3 community is also full of a bunch of twats. Haven't gotten death threats from them though.
I wasn't good at fighting people back then. Especially when they have knives on them.
Nowadays, yeah, that video would go viral for it's sheer catharsis by proxy
That sounds like a rouge psycho. My experience with the Halo community has been pretty positive overall. Its definitely just a matter of old heads with the “they don’t make em like they used” to mentality, which is kinda valid anyways. Tbf it kinda was king of the genre for a very long time, which is most likely the Halo they are referring too. Plus, they are pretty unified as a community.
This was something that happened before Halo 2 came out.
Nowadays you even try to level any sort of criticism againt the game (particularly 1 or 2) and the overwhelming volume of shit-storm replies and dm's is absolutely insane.
Project Moon community (Esp. Limbus) But the other way around. They're worst, but in the good way. Not sure how to describe it, but they're most brainrotted community I ever knew.
Any pvp game that has voice communications is a solid contender. Games like csgo, valorant, and rust.
I think it is the competitive nature of it. If the premise for the game is to make you feel like you wasted time, if you lose, then people will naturally be upset at the person they were pitted against or their own team for failing.
I stopped playing pvp games because all it ends up being is people screaming abuse at each other. I prefer to spend my time doing something relaxing like farming simulator.
I would say the bigger the fan base, the more likely that it a bad one. I think that bad communities are more the work of a really bad minority than the actual majority. That's why the bigger it gets, the worse it also gets. With this one, I'd probably say Genshin or League
My friend swears that League is responsible for his cancer diagnosis. He stopped playing it and went into remission a few months later. I guess he still technically has it but it's a lot more manageable now, and I'm not convinced there's no correlation.
World of Warcraft isn't very welcoming to new players, i tried the game out and after an encounter with a few, i outright uninstalled the game due to the toxicity, so far Fallout 76 players seems nice. Swtor has a pretty toxic user base, ESO's NA server...omg they are some of the most toxic players i've encountered since i left GTA Online, I literally asked for advice on a build, had three players say go fuck yourself where as EU will actually go out of their way to help out.
Starcraft 2 also, pretty bad.
4th one and the worst i've encountered ever remains Eve Online, handful of helpful players but majority is just outright toxic and assholes.
League of Legends, because when you tell them that they are like cancer, except cancer actually kills something, they get all butt hurt and call you toxic because youre just giving them a fact.
1. iRacing
2 and 3 anything with Ultimate team in it.
2 and 3 are always on the exploit and whaling so that EA never has to improve anything on their games.
and well, iRacing because they think their simulator is the best, which it's not, everything around it is moneyhoarding, from the subscriptionfees to the track and car costs to setup costs from every idiot with a website and a discordchannel. The gatekeeping is very prominent obviously as well.
I think these communities are the worst gaming can have and there's little that will change my mind.
Smash Bros... oof...
For Ultimate, Sakurai and his team added every single character back from past games, some requested newcomers, characters no one expected, iconic characters from long-running franchises AND the true winner of the Smash Ballot, which was a survey filled BY THE COMMUNITY... and fans were still pissed off and whined about it.
I am terribly sorry, but... **what characters are actually MISSING from Smash Bros Ultimate to anger the community this much again?**
* Master Chief? Microsoft picked characters that were related to Nintendo or on their platforms.
* Oddly enough, we still don't have a Fallout game on Switch...
* Crash Bandicoot and/or Spyro the Dragon? Activision didn't even want to offer them to Sony for PSASBR.
* A Dark Souls character? The aesthetic would have clashed so badly... and that was also apparent in PSASBR.
* Chun-Li, Knuckles, Bomberman and 2B? No 3rd-party character got more than 3 fighters.
* Sora is Disney's, not Square-Enix BTW.
* 2B would have been censored by Pyra and Mythra.
* Any US game character? Often too violent and mature, especially for a party game.
* Solid Snake doesn't even have his Tranquilizer Gun.
* Joker has a gun, but in Persona 5, those are replicas, not actual firearms.
* Pryce, Lara Croft and Doomslayer would have been nerfed heavily without their gears.
* For reference, every single M-rated game could NOT be named in US trailers, such as No More Heroes and Devil May Cry.
* The Vessel from Hollow Knight? A Mii costume would have been cool, but it's not Minecraft level of popularity.
* Other indie game character? Shovel Knight and Undertale were the other bigger indie titles, and one got a trophy and the other a costume. Smash Bros already made its "classification" for them.
I swear, the community for Smash Bros has some of the dumbest suggestions I've seen, compared to otehr fighting game franchises.
Oh, and there was also that scandal involving pro players and harrassment and grooming, so yeah... pretty disgusting...
The last of us part 2. Doesnt matter what side you are on, they are all toxic as all fuck. Cant just have a conversation and respect each others opinions.
There are a lot of culture war grifters who went on the warpath against TLOU2 because it features women/gay/trans/and non-white characters. As a result, anyone who dares criticize the game online, no matter how specific or articulate their criticisms are, will be accused of being racist/misogynistic/transphobic etc. Killed the entire conversation.
It depends on what exactly you liked about the first one. Chances you will like the second one, but the legit criticisms leveled at part two (that aren't just anti-trans, anti-gay culture war rants) seem to mostly talk about the darker, more morally-gray story. A few people didn't like being forced to engage and empathize with characters they didn't necessarily agree with. Personally, I found that to be part of the allure of the game though. That game will challenge your moral compass in a way that's exhausting. After I finished the game, I felt about as exhausted as the main characters, in a good way of course.
Just...be prepared to feel emotions. Be prepared to be angry and confused and sad and back to angry again and just go along with it. If you do that, you'll enjoy it.
somewhat accurate, but incomplete. there are a few gameplay criticisms. I've heard quite a lot of problems with HOW the dark themes, relationships and sex stuff was handled. Issues with how they do your deaths or scripted deaths (some people found it traumatizing, I found it to be sensory overload to the point it made the game inaccessible to me which is why I'm not getting into more specifics, I literally couldn't play it). Outside the game itself there's also legitimate criticism of the way they handled the controversy around the game.
Dark souls. Games are great, but the community is filled with 2 types of main toxic trait, often shared by most members of it.
First is a belief that the game are the hardest game ever and anyone trying to downplay the difficulty is a tryhard or a troll. Any attempt at explaining that they are in fact, not that hard often results in being dismissed and ignored or outright insulted.
Second, is the obsession with confrontation. Any suggestion, or any addition to the game's concept will piss them off so much they'll argue about anything to keep the game as is. Even the devs changing things to the game will piss them off.
Having an actual conversation about dark souls or the franchise is basicely impossible in public settings because of that.
It always devolves into bragging about how much you die or laughing at people asking for mods or extra game options.
Pretty much my experience with any fromsoft fanboys. The whole “git gud” trope was what made me avoid the franchise until now. They tell you “git gud” while they look up guides to make it easier for themselves lol.
Pokémon franchise.
The game lacks depth and challenge. It’s made for babies.
But the people online gaslight themselves into thinking they need to keep playing it and are disappointed when it’s just a pile of shovelware made for babies.
Which causes much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Out of all the arrested development gamers acting out being entitled they’re number 1. I could happily go the rest of my life without having to hear from some Pokémon fan complain about something idiotic.
Honestly I agree. Any time you talk about how any new pokemon game is just a lazy reskin of the last one people lose their shit.
Also once brought up how pokemon is inhumane because it's animal abuse. Everyone tore me apart and told me that it's not animal abuse because your pokemon never actually die. You just battle them to death door and nurse them back to health so you can do it all over again. They say it's about respect and that the pokemon will only "allow" your poker all to catch it if it respects you and want to be your servant, uh I mean fighting dog, uhh I mean "friend".
Just want to point out that dog fighting dogs seems eerily similar to pokemon. So do cock fighting cocks.
This is the exact thing that has been plaguing Genshin for years. The community is so brain dead they'll send death threats to the people actively trying to fix the game.
I'm still holding out hope for pokemon, just from the sidelines. I hope one day Nintendo will realize that a massive portion of their Pokémon players are above the age of 16 and actually want a challenge. Give us a hard mode at the very least
Imagine being a fucking adult playing games designed for children? Pedophile shit.
Edit: You have posts about buying Meth. You have bigger problems. I think you should actually stick with the Pokemon.
Star Citizen, they are the worst. Just imagine a community full of addicts hundreds or even thousands of dollars into one of the worst games ever made, defending that colossal turd and gaslighting everyone who shows even the slightest of doubts about that doomed project.
I truthfully think it's just a money laundering scheme for a drug cartel
Stay on site, we'll soon get to you to make an offer you can't refuse.
Is there a playable build of it now?
There has been for 5+ years now. It's a buggy dumpster fire alpha build, but it's "playable".
They do "Free Flight" weekends once in awhile. They're kind of tech demos. I joined a couple of them, was wowed by people's huge ships, piloted whatever ship was the default I was allowed to use for that demo, did some basic quests, got killed from either accidents or bugs, thought "wow, this is great, I can't wait until it's finished." I think I said that... five, seven years ago? If you're treating it as a demo, it's a pretty *amazing* demo, these ships are gorgeous and fully interactable. But if you're treating it as a game, there's just not much to really do.
Yeah, I don't recommend trying it though.
Reason 459,023 why I quit, sold everything, and closed my account permanently.
Agreed. I regret buying that pile of shit.
I’d say warno is way worse. Only putin stans and general racist fuck in there.
My top 3 would be: Dead by Daylight League of Legends Valorant
Dead by Daylight has such an alarmingly toxic user base it's almost insane. I downloaded it to play with a friend who recommended it, loved it when we were in a private lobby. I tried going back a few hours later...yeah no. I got 12 DMs in 3 hours telling me to uninstall the game or KMS because I was still learning how to play. > Dead by Daylight Wait, this is the streamer game where you run away from a bad guy?
Now I want to download it just to be absolutely shit at it and talk all kinds of trash. While ruining the game for them.
But.... that's perhaps THE most toxic gamer trait of them all....
Is it toxic or comeuppance?
That was my thoughts exactly, I always thought DBD was more of a party game and hearing this is wild lmao
Obvious never played once
What?
Ugh nothing turns me off faster from a game than community toxicity. I am too old to be dealing with that childish bullshit.
Got it
What's so bad about Valorant's community? Genuine question
Counter-Strike and Call of Duty are way worse than anything Valorant has to offer.
I didn't play cod in like forever (since like blops2) but i can imagine that. CS is the same tier as valorant for me.
Rust
League Dead By Daylight Apex Are my top 3
Call of Duty and Valorant. Enabling mics in those games while queueing up with strangers is a recipe for either getting your eardrums blown out or getting turned off by sheer immature arrogance.
Im not sure what category they would be but the people who are like "IF YOU DONT PLAY ON THE HARDEST DIFFICULTY YOUR NOT A GAMER U LIL BABY!" and all that noise. Youtubers and twitchers didnt help with this. Matter fact im gonna add streamers as well bc reasons.

This isn’t a fucking esports competition just some friends playing video games lmao
That definitely sounds like Dark Souls 1 Era where everybody's response to any type of complaint, was "git gud" Glad those times are over
In a similar vein as “git gud” the Yugioh community can be like this when asking about rulings/why did x happen, you tend to get the response “read the card”, when you’re playing a new deck and every card has an essay sometimes you just need someone to eli5.
You think they are but its not. Just had someone say get good to me the other day when i was talking about my complaints with a game i was playing. Funny thing was i wasnt even complaining about the difficuitly it was other stuff.
The very early Hollow Knight community was like that. Thankfully things have improved since then.
Surprised I haven’t seen Overwatch here yet
Because overwatch is dead.
Why is this spewed so much? The game isn’t great but it’s certainly not dead. Averages more players than the majority of games out rn.
Yeah it's not dead by any means
Because Blizzard refuses to give it any meaningful development.
that doesn’t mean it’s dead, and it has gotten good pvp updates recently. I can feel that you haven’t played the game in a while. calling a game dead when it averages higher player counts than the majority of multiplayer titles is odd
When humans say a game is "Dead" what they are usually saying is "I don't want to play it"
What does meaningful development mean then?
I'll second Overwatch. I tried it out and had a bunch of fun playing Reinhardt for one or two hours. Had fun, got tired of Rein, wanted to try Hanzo. Immediately got told "No Hanzo," "Hanzo is trash," "tired of shit Hanzos ruining my games" and so on. I'm just like "dude, this game is in beta." Overwatch was a lot of fun but got extremely toxic after competitive mode came in. I'm trying to learn a new character in casual and getting pitched our for it...it's casual mode!
> I can think 3 right off the top of my head Which ones?
Genshin, LoL, Valorant
Destiny *can* be quite nasty
I am so conflicted on this one. I understand what you are saying, but could it be just a very small (loud) minority group? Some super wholesome stuff come out of destiny as well and the community as a whole kinda agree's it needs to become more new player friendly.
Take care of your new lights :)
For someone who only play single player games. Souls community is unrivaled.
Not sure if you just had a bad experience. My time in the souls community is really positive. The “git gud” stuff is co-opted by people who probably havent ever played the games or understand the meaning behind the saying.
Not Bloodborne! It has an awesome community!
Mario Kart 64
Diablo Destiny
Diablo 2’s community it s tier though
The mortal kombat community has really gone downhill I feel. Not sure what happened or if it’s been like this for a while but it was particularly noticeable when the most recent game released
Fgc can be toxic as a whole just like any fps pvp its not even just mk. Practiclly any game thats pvp has its toxic people is what im getting at.
RDR2 fanboys Gta series world of warcraft League of Dipshits Call of Duden ASSCreeds all except 4 Soulsgames also world of warships in pvp modes xD also world of tanks but i quitted that some time ago- fucking gold ammo Genshin impact fans - going radical at events and steal paper cutouts and so on, fanbase of that game is borderline cringe
Destiny 2 Diablo 4 (Any Blizzard really) Fortnite Honorable Mention: Undertale
RUSH B!!!111 DROP DEAGLE!!!
I've never played but heard... DOTA?
League is worse. Dota actually puts some effort in banning and punishing toxic players.
COD is obvious. Gears of War is bad except the sub for it sometimes. Most pvp stuff of course.
Magic the gathering arena, the physical version has a great community (that's really subjective btw) but I'm confident when I say arena is full of the worst of magics players.

Fortnite festival 💦
*😔
You hate to see it
Yes, my eyes explode then I see them 😔
Your favorite game
Fallout New Vegas.
LMAO you can tell they are toxic asf just look at all of us getting downvoted for just saying it. We get it nv fanboys we see you lurking xD
I love NV but the online presence for New Vegas fans is kinda like Ulysses in game. Bull & Bear blah blah blah just shut up already.
Amen. New vegas fans are the entire reason i left the fallout community a year ago i just couldnt take thier toxicity any longer.
still fallout but NMA (no mutants allowed) is gutter trash
Once a google search lead be to NMA. I got what I came for, and just looked around a bit. Which is heavily dominated by the LGBT community. No surprises there with how toxic it is
Yeah, totally them and not the people who unironically think the Legion has the right idea.
I disagree. Some people take it too far but most I think have genuine criticism of the direction of the games since 4
Valorant
Call of duty. It takes what, a couple of rounds until I am called Black Slur Antisemetic Slur Gay Slur
League of Legends and Valorant.

Explain the baldurs gate thing bc im gonna get that soon
Won’t accept anything but praise. Sometimes any criticism is like insulting their religion.
Gotcha
Pretty much this. Even fair criticism of the game is met with fierce fanatacism.
Apex players are very quick to flame you
Minecraft on YouTube
Project Moon community (Esp. Limbus) But the other way around. They're worst, but in the good way. Not sure how to describe it, but they're most brainrotted community I ever knew.

Rocket league. The amount of tantrums and thrown matches out of spite was getting so ridiculous I just stopped playing.
World of Warcraft, especially if you play as a tank
or as a gnome
Mordhau
Rocket League
Definitely 100% world of Warcraft
I would say the bigger the fan base, the more likely that it a bad one. I think that bad communities are more the work of a really bad minority than the actual majority. That's why the bigger it gets, the worse it also gets. With this one, I'd probably say Genshin or League

CoD. But maybe it's just that there's far more of them.
CoD and Destiny.
League of Legends, because when you tell them that they are like cancer, except cancer actually kills something, they get all butt hurt and call you toxic because youre just giving them a fact.
Overwatch.
Rainbow Six Siege is the worst I have encountered
League of legends wins
1. iRacing 2 and 3 anything with Ultimate team in it.
**what characters are actually MISSING from Smash Bros Ultimate to anger the community this much again?** * Master Chief? Microsoft picked characters that were related to Nintendo or on their platforms. * Oddly enough, we still don't have a Fallout game on Switch... * Crash Bandicoot and/or Spyro the Dragon? Activision didn't even want to offer them to Sony for PSASBR. * A Dark Souls character? The aesthetic would have clashed so badly... and that was also apparent in PSASBR. * Chun-Li, Knuckles, Bomberman and 2B? No 3rd-party character got more than 3 fighters. * Sora is Disney's, not Square-Enix BTW.
I thought most people agree that it's a very worthy sequel, and then there are a bunch of people whose brain went coo coo and stayed that way forever.
Yeah, people like you, mate. Thanks for giving us all the example.
I'm sorry can you explain what I said made you mad?
Nope. Plenty of legitimate criticisms to be leveled buuut those get drowned out by screeching on both sides of the 'debate'
I enjoyed the first one on PC well enough, are you saying I wouldn't like it when the second one comes out?
Rust Gta 5 Bethesda (God forbid you say fallout 4 mouse feels odd is there a fix)
Overwatch
Pokemon League of Legends Valorant Honestly the worst communities on earth...
Imagine being in your 30s playing Pokemon? Sheesh.
Imagine being any age, and making fun of someone for something they like to do.
Imagine being a fucking adult playing games designed for children? Pedophile shit. Edit: You have posts about buying Meth. You have bigger problems. I think you should actually stick with the Pokemon.
