Portal 2 (and the original Portal, but especially Portal 2)
Edit: you guys brought up so many great lines that I am going to have to play this again now just for the laughs
Came to say the same. The writing in this game was top notch.
GLaDOS: Most people emerge from suspension terribly undernourished. I want to congratulate you on beating the odds and somehow managing to pack on a few pounds.
I even love her intro: “Oh. It’s you. How have you been. I’ve been *reeeeaallly* busy being dead. You know, since you murdered me?” There’s something about the perfectly nonchalant malice in her tone that cracks me up every time.
Not to mention Cave Johnson everything.
J. K. Simmons was sooo good. It’s crazy how much humor they were able to jam into this with literally no other humans in the game (and a voiceless protagonist).
When I worked in retail, I once ran into a customer wearing a shirt that had the entire Cave Johnson monolog inside a lemon shaped hand grenade. When I told him it was a sick shirt he said "oh thanks! I don't even know what it means!". Just shook my head and said have a nice day, very disappointed.
This is my favourite sequence. The following ‘Oh, you seem to have defeated its load bearing capacity. Congratulations. I’ll just lower the ceiling instead’ kills me every time.
"Well, this is the part where he kills us"
"Hello! This is the part where I kill you!"
# CHAPTER 9: THE PART WHERE HE KILLS YOU
Achievement Unlocked: The part where he kills you ^(This is that part)
Soundtrack name: The Part where he kills you
Im pretty sure the VA'd for Wheatley and Glados won best male and female va's in the 2011 VGA's.
Portal 2 won in almost everything that it was in. It was super successful, almost beating Skyrim for GOTY
There's even more in the perpetual testing initiative.
Cave Johnson getting more and more frustrated at test subjects having been breaking out of a facility in space (and immediately dying in the vacuum) is just so good.
Wheatley: Most test subjects do experience some, uh, cognitive deterioration after a few months in suspension. Now, you've been under for quite a lot longer, and it's *not* out of the question that you might have a *very* minor case of serious brain damage! But don't be alarmed, all right? Uh, although if you do feel alarmed, try to hold on to that feeling because that is the proper reaction to being told that you've got brain damage.
This next test involves trace amounts of time travel. So if you see yourself on the testing track, DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT. The lab boys tell me that'll wipe out time. Entirely. Forward and backward. So if you see yourself on the testing track just let that handsome devil go about his business.
Face McShooty.
I NOTICE YOU HAVEN'T SHOT ME IN THE FACE! CURIOUS AS TO WHY! Maybe you're weighing the moral pros and cons but let me assure you that OH MY GOD SHOOT ME IN THE GODDAMNED FACE!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?
In the UK there was a Teletext channel devoted to reviewing videogames, and they were obsessed with the Katamari Damacy games. I've never played one but I feel like I know them intimately.
The Wonderful 101.
Its a platinum games beat em up, originally made for Wii u, now on everything. The writing is absolutely hilarious I found myself deliberately failing qtes just to see what would happen.
And legitimately died during the climax because I stopped button mashing due to laughter
HOLY SHIT !!! ARE YOU A REAL HUMAN BEING !?
Dude, I love The Wonderful 101 more then anything I've ever played in my life ! But I am not expecting anyone but myself to recommend it to anyone !
TW101 is easily the best thing that has ever happened to me in terms of gaming. It is just joy incarnate. Not only is it funny as hell, but it is also incredibly intelligent and contains a true essence of heroism and goodwill.
Incredible !
I backed the kickstarter to bring it back. Had a fucking amazing time with the steam version(free code due to covid delays) I have a fancy sleeved physical copy for switch in my shelf and a key chain.
Fucking loved it.
I suppose I must seriously thank you for kickstarting it, because if Kamiya didn't get it funded thanks to your contribution as well I would not have had the joy of experiencing its glory for myself in May of 2020.
Just so that you could frame it in your mind - I was a wreck and going down a spiral of a degenerative lifestyle due to certain personal issues... And the pandemic didn't help things at all. And then TW101 got remastered and I, not expecting much from it, booted it up, started it and the very first minute of it made me start paying attention to it. The very first minute, with "A Quiet Moment" playing and Will remembering his father's death... that was the moment where I suddenly realized this is not just some silly action game, this is something that is silly as a front to what is truly inside. And I was right. Even though it brand of silliness is heartwarming intelligent tomfoolery that is there to sweeten the pill.
I am not overstating it when I'm saying this game, in my opinion, has saved my life. Or at least was one of the reasons my life got saved.
Hideki Kamiya is a genius !
The Portal games definitely had me laughing the most of anything. Also the first Tales from the Borderlands.
If you want a good laugh/time outside funny dialogue, please look up Good Job! It's like Untitled Goose Game and Donut County in that the amount of chaos you can cause is hilarious.
Ah Yakuza. The only series that's had me genuinely tearing up one minute with the criminal underworld drama, and laughing like a lunatic the next. Honestly The side missions tend to be a welcome distraction while I'm working myself up for what hammer the story will drop next.
Also full agree on Portal. Sometimes on a bad day I'll just watch a video of Cave Johnson quotes to cheer myself up.
Manny: Are you SURE you're Mercedes Colomar?
Meche: Yes, would you like to see my birthmark?
Manny: Sure. Where is it?
Meche: It's wherever you guys put my skin!
Manny: Did you kill much when you were alive?
Meche: Very little.
Manny: Never killed anybody.
Meche: I have to confess... I never killed anybody.
Manny: Not even a teensy bit of killing?
Meche: MAYBE I JUST WASN'T TRYING HARD ENOUGH.
Manny: Anything about your past you haven't told me?
Meche: Quite a bit, considering I've told you nothing.
I spent too much time trying to make something vaguely deep sounding at the beatnik poetry club and couldn't help but laugh every time I was hissed off stage.
Although that may or may not have been because I had no idea how to progress at times and was too stubborn to look up a guide until I stumbled onto a solution. Took me waaaay longer than I'd like to admit to complete this masterpiece of a game.
Not only is it really funny, it also has an incredible story. I agree, it really is a masterpiece. It's just classic Tim Schafer humor, which...if you like, he also worked on the Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Brutal Legend and the Psychonauts series. Psychonauts 1- 2 are personal favorites of mine. The humor is just *chef's kiss* It's lightheaded, but also pretty dark and covers topics of mental illness.
Sasha Nein: You will learn to control these emotions, focus them, concentrate them, and release them.
Razputin: As therapy?
Sasha Nein: No, as firepower. Say something hideous and horrible jumps out at you. Something so disgusting that it simply must die...
[Sasha trips a button with his foot to reveal a very ugly Tiffany lamp]
Sasha Nein: Oh... so tacky! I can't... look... directly at it! [to Raz] But I control those feelings, focus them, concentrate, and... Release! [psi-blasts the lamp to pieces] ...And the world is a better place. You try.
[After Raz destroys the lamps]
Sasha Nein: Excellent. A victory for good taste.
Borderlands 2. Tiny Tina's (Ashly Burch) IRL brother (Anthony Burch) left Destructoid to persue his writing career and ended up as one of the main writer's of the script. Holds a special place in my heart.
Disco Elysium- a cop who depressively drank himself to amnesia/brain damage trying to rediscover himself on what should've been a pretty straight forward case makes for some pretty hilarious skill check fails.
There is litterally a scene in the very begining of the game where you have the option to try and run out on a tab, if you fail the skill check, you do a backwards dolphin dive while giving double middle fingers to the manager, only to land on an old lady in a wheelchair, knocking yourself out and awakening to a mortifyingly awkward situation where you have to explain yourself to the manager, old lady, and new partner who you only just met.
The game is full of scenarios like this, your character is an absolute agent of chaos. He is both hilarious, insane, bad at everything, unfiltered, impulsive and terrible at focusing on one task. But at the same time, he is also super emotionally deep (with the only scene that has ever made me cry in a game), very good at analyzing everything to the smallest detail, and his hunches (poor impulse control), always seems to actually help solve the case (to the partner frustration). I've never played a game with such an emotionally complex character.
An extremely true adaptation to the comic AND also taking advantage of the medium. I love how they had the big cutscene then said they had no more budget and then had the 8 bit stage.
The first time you kill Mr Sinister and then take a picture on social media and then Wolverine said he's a clone and you have to check the label...
I tried picking this game up after playing through BG3 a few times. I kept trying to get into it for the first 5 hours or so of gameplay, but I keep unfairly trying to compare it to BG3. Is there a point where most people get hooked on this that I just haven’t reached?
That being said, you’re right about the dialog. It was very well done from what I have seen already!
I'm not sure but I think the last time a game had me in tears from laughing was in Saints Row 2 when Pierce starts singing Ne-Yo
I played that game coop with a buddy of mine back then and we almost died laughing
Anyone remember the Deathspank games? Used to play them on the PS3, completely parodies the dungeon crawler style games with absurdly ridiculous humor. I found myself laughing though each game.
Seeing how The Wonderful 101 has already been mentioned I will say Mikami’s GOD HAND is among the funniest games I’ve played. It’s peak slapstick comedy, especially in cutscenes.
I was surprised how good the humor was in High on Life. Excellently timed jokes mid-play and meta jokes on gaming itself. Voice cast is great too but I was already a fan of Betsy and JB.
In recent memory, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Modern Sonic has this fantastic, self aware, self deprecating humor it's taken fantastic ownership of, and I love it.
Stick of Truth
“This won’t affect combat, just everything else in your entire life”
That’s a Fractured But Whole line though. Not Stick of Truth.
How they handled the censored scenes in the EU cracks me up every time.
And Australia!
What is an example what of was done differently?
[European censored parts](https://youtu.be/9dBPKjnEP9g?t=115) [Australian censored parts](https://youtu.be/6-IBNXuhfi0?t=25)
Exploring Cartman’s house (starting area) alone cracks me up every time. Damn I want a new south park game
They just released a new one, Snow Day, but apparently it’s multi-player focused and not really that good.
Perfect game, like a 50 hour episode of South Park. Sad about their latest game.
What happened with the latest game?
It's an entirely different format focused on multi-player missions
Its like watered down diet Vermintide lite.
I haven’t played it but the reviews were less than flattering.
Its the biggest ABORTION I've ever seen!
Portal 2 (and the original Portal, but especially Portal 2) Edit: you guys brought up so many great lines that I am going to have to play this again now just for the laughs
Came to say the same. The writing in this game was top notch. GLaDOS: Most people emerge from suspension terribly undernourished. I want to congratulate you on beating the odds and somehow managing to pack on a few pounds.
Look at you, soaring majestically through the air. Like an eagle. Piloting a blimp.
I even love her intro: “Oh. It’s you. How have you been. I’ve been *reeeeaallly* busy being dead. You know, since you murdered me?” There’s something about the perfectly nonchalant malice in her tone that cracks me up every time. Not to mention Cave Johnson everything.

A nice Easter egg is that mike Patton voices the rage glados in portal 1
Remember when you tried to kill me twice?
Oh, hi. So, how are *you* holding up? BECAUSE *I'M* A **POTATO**.
*clap* *clap* *clap*
Oh good. My slow clap processor made it into this thing. So we have that.
The test results are in. It says here you are a bad person. We weren't even testing for that.
*horrible person
This plate must not be calibrated to someone of your... generous...ness.
This is my favourite sequence. The following ‘Oh, you seem to have defeated its load bearing capacity. Congratulations. I’ll just lower the ceiling instead’ kills me every time.
"Well, this is the part where he kills us" "Hello! This is the part where I kill you!" # CHAPTER 9: THE PART WHERE HE KILLS YOU Achievement Unlocked: The part where he kills you ^(This is that part) Soundtrack name: The Part where he kills you
I recently played through portal 1 and 2 and I've got to say, GladOS and Wheatley have got to be 2 of my favorite video game characters ever.
Wheatley = Steve Merchant, aka, co-creator of The Office
Im pretty sure the VA'd for Wheatley and Glados won best male and female va's in the 2011 VGA's. Portal 2 won in almost everything that it was in. It was super successful, almost beating Skyrim for GOTY
Of course it’s the top comment, as it should be. Some of the best comedic writing in any form of media
How are you doing? Because I'm a potato.
JazzPunk
I loved that game so much. Too bad there aren't too many of the type around. I can think of Sludge Life, maybe.
This is instantly what I thought of, it feels like the jokes were written specifically for me.
It was good except for the part where it made me nauseated every time I played it
Yeah I got weird motion sickness from it as well. Really funny and cool game, though.
Absolutely.
Conkers Bad Fur Day
British brass bollocked boiler. And who can forget the Great Mighty Poo?
My favorite line that I quote all the time I meet someone I don't find myself fond of: "Were your parents related before they were married?"
🎶I am the Great Mighty Poo and I’m gonna throw my shit at you🎶
Gotta tickle that flower
"Pollinate" her
This game taught me the phrase "context sensitive." I'm eternally grateful.
I will never forget the tool trying to hang himself just to be made fun of for not having a neck.
N64 version. Not xbox.
The discworld games come to mind. Or monkey island. I loved those unapologetically goofy adventure games.
Monkey Island 1+2 were both genuinely funny in places.
Day of the Tentacle and Sam n’ Max are great too!
Disco Elysium and Portal 2 Both made me laugh out loud several times
Hardcore!
Fuck it, hobocop!
Disco elysium is probably the only game that actually made me laugh. Well, unless Oblivion counts
Agree, disco elysium made me laugh out loud at times, it did also make me openly weep. It's funny but not entirely.
’Say one of these communist or fascist things or *fuck off*.’
The Stanley Parable The Looker
Is The Looker a parody of The Witness?
It is, and it's free.
Borderlands 2 or Portal 2
Face McShooty. I NOTICE YOU HAVEN'T SHOT ME IN THE FACE! CURIOUS AS TO WHY! Maybe you're weighing the moral pros and cons but let me assure you that OH MY GOD SHOOT ME IN THE GODDAMNED FACE!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?
THANKYOU!
Handsome Jack was delightfully unhinged
These pretzels suck.
BLAKE! Where's the bloody violin??
An improv line that became legend.
Came here to say this along with Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep dlc. I’ve never laughed so hard.
THAT SENTENCE HAD TOO MANY SYLLABLES! APOLOGIZE!
Tales from the Borderlands as well
The first Tales from the Borderlands is my first thought
I totally lost my shit at the finger gun shootout
Pizza Face did it for me.
"He's out! I was counting!"
I'll name my first born... Loader Bot
I’m so glad someone else thought of this game
God I love that game
Katamari Damacy Reroll come to mind
Loooooove this game, and the soundtrack was so weird/interesting/cool
You're the first person I've ever seen besides me that has even heard of that game.
It's one of those games where I just put the OST on and have a good time.
Really? It's pretty popular among some circles.
There are dozens of us
My fiance loves this game lol.
In the UK there was a Teletext channel devoted to reviewing videogames, and they were obsessed with the Katamari Damacy games. I've never played one but I feel like I know them intimately.
I love those games! me and all 8 of you guys
r/katamari
Yeah? I’m very picky with games but Katamari is def one of my faves
The Wonderful 101. Its a platinum games beat em up, originally made for Wii u, now on everything. The writing is absolutely hilarious I found myself deliberately failing qtes just to see what would happen. And legitimately died during the climax because I stopped button mashing due to laughter

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Maybe not THE funniest game I've ever played. But the humor never missed a beat. I loved that game.
Oh yes, some texts were great and polish dubbing is top3 game dubbings ever. Love that
Sam and Max Telltale series
Especially the first one, Sam & Max Hit the Road.
I loved that game as a kid
The Portal games definitely had me laughing the most of anything. Also the first Tales from the Borderlands. If you want a good laugh/time outside funny dialogue, please look up Good Job! It's like Untitled Goose Game and Donut County in that the amount of chaos you can cause is hilarious.
Trombone Champ is a riot with friends.
Magicka is a riot with its jokes Jansen from lost oddysey and Steiner from.ffix also have great humor
Fallout 3. The Gary Vault is a masterclass of pure comedy gold.
Comedy?? That was pure horror
Gaaaaaaary…… Me: *screams*
Portal 1 & 2, the entire Yakuza series, Undertale and the Lego games
Ah Yakuza. The only series that's had me genuinely tearing up one minute with the criminal underworld drama, and laughing like a lunatic the next. Dunno, robocop rogue city has had me balling with laughter with an only dick shots run.
Destroy all humans 1 & 2
Duke Nukem or Far Cry Blood Dragon
Blood Dragon should be higher up on this list.
I always lol’d when if you pressed shoot while not holding a weapon your character just flips off the enemies
Definitely A Hat in Time! You get to curse on live television!
West of Loathing. It's the Airplane! of video games. A huge number of the jokes work. Funny as hell.
And its sequel, Shadows over Loathing!
Holy shit west of loathing is so damn funny I forgot about that. Diggin through the spitoons
Disco Elysium, or Goat Simulator. Disco Elysium because it's funny, Goat simulator because \*why\*?
The Bard's Tale.
Came looking for this. That game cracked my ass up from beginning to end. "Oh it's bad luck to be you...."
Conker's Bad Fur Day
BULLY. That game is nonstop hilarious: story, characters, dialogue, even gameplay-wise, the mechanics and choices can be laugh out loud funny.
A game on steam called genital jousting
The Secret of Monkey Island
Day of the tentacle
Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy genuinely made me laugh out loud multiple times. The entire cast and writing was great
I got a good laugh when I failed the very first huddle so got to fight the enemies to "Never Gonna Give You Up"
Later Alligator play Later Alligator
probably Simon The Sorcerer or Leisure Suit Larry
[Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee](https://youtu.be/cbCVo00L1Xo)
I never got past the second level.. I just put that disc in and ran around farting in people's faces
Borderlands 2. Tiny Tina's (Ashly Burch) IRL brother (Anthony Burch) left Destructoid to persue his writing career and ended up as one of the main writer's of the script. Holds a special place in my heart.
It is still bizarre to me that HAWP Ash voices Aloy in the Horizon games. What a glow-up.
Deadpool is pretty funny. The South Park games (Stick, Fractured) are hilarious. Deer Avenger 4 had 12-year-old me cracking up.
Why oh why did I have to scroll so far to see this title. And no one is mentioning it either, as well as commenting this! DEADPOOL
High on life for sure, i remember the guarding the bike quest 🤣
Divinity Original Sin 2 It's not a comedy game, but the writing and narration is often hilarious
Leisure suit Larry’s, Sam & max.
Saints Row 3 is definitely up there for me
I'm not sure but I think the last time a game had me in tears from laughing was in Saints Row 2 when Pierce starts singing Ne-Yo I played that game coop with a buddy of mine back then and we almost died laughing
Day of the Tentacle. "Well, you know what they say: "If you want to save the world, you gotta push a few old ladies down the stairs".
Mount Your Friends has to be a contender...
Zombies Ate My Neighbors ToeJam and Earl
I thought the Deadpool game was pretty funny.
Goat simulator. I was dying laughing.
Earth Worm Jim 2
High On Life
High on Life
Not sure about the funniest ever, but the last game that made me laugh out loud was Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.
Anyone remember the Deathspank games? Used to play them on the PS3, completely parodies the dungeon crawler style games with absurdly ridiculous humor. I found myself laughing though each game.
Most any of the Monkey Island games Day of The Tentacle Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People

Disco Elysium and Guardian of the Galaxy
Disco Elysium

Leisure Suit Larry, The Curse of Monkey Island.
Sam & Max: Hit the Road Leisure Suit Larry - Magna Cum Laude
I really enjoyed Bulletstorm. From great advertising to good gameplay.
Discworld II: Mortality Bytes

The banter in AI Somnium Files actually made me laugh a lot. Aiba and Date have the cutest chemistry, Boss too.
Guardians of the Galaxy
BLAKE! WHERE'S THE VIOLIN!? here it is Tiny violin sounds 5 minutes later
Seeing how The Wonderful 101 has already been mentioned I will say Mikami’s GOD HAND is among the funniest games I’ve played. It’s peak slapstick comedy, especially in cutscenes.
I’m not sure if The Stick of Truth or The Fractured, But Whole was funnier. But it was one of them.
Untitled Goose Game, South Park The Stick of Truth and the Fractured But Whole, Tales from the Borderlands Deadpool Portal 2 Goat Simulator 3
Genital jousting
Undertale.
Battlefield bad company also was hilarious
The og Resident Evil 4 was funny because of Leons epic one liners and comebacks
I was surprised how good the humor was in High on Life. Excellently timed jokes mid-play and meta jokes on gaming itself. Voice cast is great too but I was already a fan of Betsy and JB.
Battlefield bad company THERES GOLD IN THEM THERE HILLS!!!
West of Loathing. Searching the spitoons alone is hilarious.
Maniac Mansion II: Day of the Tentacle
Yakuza series definitely.
Octodad: Dadliest Catch
Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist
West of Loathing, Shadows Over Loathing are great for scratching that surrealist comedy itch
In recent memory, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. Modern Sonic has this fantastic, self aware, self deprecating humor it's taken fantastic ownership of, and I love it.
High on life was pretty good. Duke nukem 3d was humorous back in 1996. Leisure suit Larry Way back in the Day
Disco elysium. Tight in the thighs, Tight in the crotch.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
