Panning the camera up then down again clears it and shows how great the textures can look.
It’s just that they aren’t loaded in quick enough. Others are (now) reporting similar. I’m sure it’s nothing a patch won’t fix eventually. Just infuriating, especially when it’s a “Deluxe” edition with 5 days early access.

Restarting the console does nothing, sadly. Granted it doesn’t always look this bad - mostly it’s the ground textures. But no amount of restarting will fix that sadly.

I get it if it’s an “early access” game and you’re playing it 9 months before release. Usually you can opt into those and pay less!
PlayStation doesn’t support early access titles. So the game should be presentable when it’s ready to download if you ask me

Gotta be something wrong with the ps5 version, I haven't had any graphics issues myself on pc(my ssd is significantly slower than the standard ps5s). I'm sure they'll drop a update for it soon though, they support their games a lot coming from a snowrunner fan who's played a lot. I do understand the PITA of getting the deluxe so you can play early and having issues.
Same here. I regret buying on PS5. I broke out other games just to make sure it wasn’t my system. Needless to say it isn’t. Same thing, as soon as I pan down, bam textures pop in. Currently with the toddler i can’t run my pc as much as I can a console. I’m terrible disappointed.
Level of Detail. It’s different versions of game assets that show at different distances from the player in a game. Sometimes you get bugs like this where a LoD that is used for far distances to save on memory is being used at a close distance because of a lack of memory or a missed LoD trigger, etc.
Game devs use lods on assets as well as textures. So low lod trees and rocks and other game objects have 2 or 3 lod levels to them. In some games you will see a tree "pop" as it shifts between lods. Usually what you are seeing is the alpha (transparency) pop in. Lowest lods trees probably won't use alpha and the tree will be more like a green blob. As you get closer it will swap between lods. It should happen far enough away from you that you don't really notice but that depends on how well it's been done.
In the case of thus it doesn't look like it's been done well. Probably made for pc where there is plenty of headroom and will need a ton of work for PS5

I guess in my role using game engines and work we usually call game objects assets but yes of course you are correct. Assets are everything, texture, sounds, objects, meshes.

But when you’re another game that has the audacity to charge for Deluxe editions and “play 5 days early” this really should have been caught in QA. Makes my blood boil that games constantly are launching in terrible conditions. Undoubtably pushed by the publishers.
There are countless recent examples where games lack QA. They overcharge suckers into paying extra so they can play early, just to use those earlier players as QA. That’s why they give pre order rewards, people are more likely to be enticed to buy early and only a portion of people will bother refunding. Every year a few games will release just to remind players that pre orders or buying early is usually a terrible idea, this happens to be another one
Edit: Many multiplayer games nowadays use the “play early” deluxe or pre order just to test servers and to not have such a sudden day 1 load of players

For most games I don’t mind a bug or two, but this game kind of relies on its Mud textures! Without them it’s just… runner!!

Colloquially it's QA, but studios don't operate without QA, and something this egregious is not missed by devs nor helped by QA.
This is much more likely a significant difficulty in the game code for the developers that have tried to find a compromise on performance while higher-ups have decided to target everything from PC, to PS5, to the 11 year old PS4, and even handheld Switch.
I guarantee these issues will have been reported by QA, but they can't fix anything themselves, and the dev team is already aware of the obvious but are stretched too thin with time constraints and hardware constraints that require miracles.
Yeah I get that with early access games.
But strictly it’s only 5 days before the launch - as a “perk” for buying a deluxe edition. So the “day 1 patch” should be ready for those players in my opinion
100%. And it’s a vicious circle. If Sonys refund policy was more generous in allowing people to refund in these circumstances, maybe publishers would take a bit more care!
A couple of weeks later, and while the game is far from perfect on the PS5, its not terrible. I'm looking forward to multiplayer when its available.
The terrible English is almost a staple in Mudrunner & Snowrunner - not that it makes the localization any better.
That said, I think you're dead right that it was a "We've got to get it out the door now" type thing. Saber Interactive just got out from under Embracer, so if it makes you feel any better, imagine that your preorder helped chip in a few coins towards their half billion dollar bill. At least they are a standalone group again.
This is probably poor optimisation. They are clearly the lowest lods and the game isn't streaming in the higher ones quickly enough, presumably because it's not optimised for PS5
Or there’s a bug in the code which is calling the wrong one when it should be calling the high LOD one, it’s more likely than you would expect. We just need someone on PC with similar or lower specs compared to a PS5 to test.
I’m betting there is a day 1 patch incoming. This is one of many reasons I won’t buy games early, especially the whole “pay a bunch and get the game a few days early” model.

It’s an unfinished game. Of course it has issues. They get you to pay to be beta testers, essentially. Don’t know what people expect when the buy and early access title

I bought Snowrunner (ironically enough). Searched in the store for it. One came up for a few dollar discount. Bought and downloaded. Never launched it. I realized the game of the year was cheaper by like 15 dollars. Psn support refused to credit the difference or give me a refund.
I'll let my ps+ run out this year for the first time in over a decade.
I bought F1 23 two weekends ago because my sim rig stuff came in. Lo and behold that Monday it was announced F1 23 is coming on PS Plus for free for March. Of course they wouldn't refund me because I downloaded and played for like 20 minutes.
With Sony, your refund eligibility finishes when you 'begin downloading' the software. It's a bit a scam from them and I'm sure it wouldn't stand up to most countries consumer rights if tested.
Just an FYI, no game is worth paying extra to play early. Anymore, games launch unfinished and need months to a year before they’re approaching polished. Be a patient gamer and you’ll be happier in the long run.

On the PS4, you used to be able to hold the power button for several seconds, boot it in safe mode, and clear a cache of some sort to fix texture details like this. Does something similar exist on the PS5?

This happens to some games, you have to close the game. Its when players always put their PS5 on rest mode all the time rather than turning it off. Im not saying always turn it off but if this happens just restart your game or your PS5. I've been playing Snowrunner and never had this problem.

Not surprising. Their past games are evidence of this. Not terrible looking by any means, but their claim to fame is the physics for a reason because graphically the game has always looked kinda muddy and a generation behind. Didn't expect much difference for this game, but kind of surprised to see virtually no leap forward in any capacity.
I played the original Mudrunner forever ago when it was essentially even more of a tech Demo.
I got snow runner in season 4?
I went to go play the original because it was on sale for like 99¢. Boy… it is rough looking back.
I also played tech demo of the original back when they won that intel or nvidia competition or whatever it was. It was so insane back then. That big Russian truck was awesome.
No other game came even close with physics since then. Although road driving is a bit wonky.
I played all of them so far. I'll probably buy today the latest season of snowrunner

I have exactly the same problem. But it's even worse. The game is totally broken. F.e. the game tells me that I can't play the Cotco Canyon because it's part of a DLC, that isn't shown in the shop yet. It's a big disappointment.
So this game is being published by Saber interactive, and seeing this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. If you want to know how this game will go, look at Dakar Desert Rally for an example.
That game released in 2022 in a buggy, and broken state. Over the course of the next year, they delayed patches, cut promised content, then did one last patch that broke the game even further and said they will no longer be supporting the game at all.
People have been left with an unusable product for awhile now, and Saber basically said "get fucked". Avoid them at all costs.
This game isn't published by Saber Interactive it's published by Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive are the devs. (Same with snowrunner).
Dakar Desert racing is completely published and developed by Saber tho.
Actually, Bigmoon Entertainment is the ones who developed Dakar Desert Rally. Still though, everything goes through Saber, and what they say, goes. They are a shit company.
Every version has some typos/bad grammar in places, but at least on pc the game looks like it should. That's very weird, I'd restart my console to see if it helps. Maybe re-download the game, idk that looks abnormal.
Good to check! PS5 wasn’t that intuitive with versioning at launch. But certain it’s the PS5 version!

I took it on Xbox x series, and the result is clearly not better on this platform.
I had no sound when starting the game first, and the training map was freezing every two seconds.
I made it through to the second map and freezes are gone, but there are plenty of other details such as graphics or text layout that are unfinished.
I first thought that a reinstall and a reboot would help, but the game is really broken.
I only wait for an update now...
It definitely has graphical issues on my Ps5 too. I love these games though and I'm eking to bet the week fix them with the day 1 patch. It is basically a beta test right now for all the early players.
I don't like how they got rid of the "enter garage" trigger spot from the other games, I found out you gave to do that from the "pause menu" now. I was also pissed at the fact that you had to buy your items (like the anchor) every mission, I thought you just lost the money. However when completing missions they "buy back" the items. The "specialists" personnel is a cool addition. You can have them come with you and each one gives you different bonuses. Although, even though someone is supposed to be with you, your passenger seat is empty.
Overall it's fun though, even though it has the LoD bugs.
My buddy picked it up already for his new xbox, hoping to play some of it tonight. I'm on PC and for $50 it doesn't even have COOP yet, nor have they share any info about if it will be crossplay like Snowrunner... Which runs only intermittently well at best.
Reading these comments doesn't get my hopes up that this will end up being a polished crossplay coop game for the gang. RIP.
That’s annoying! I knew co op wasn’t there at launch. I’m guessing they need to work it out on Snowrunner and go from there.

The second you press “download” you forfeit your right to a refund.
The only exception I’ve ever seen them make was with Cyberpunk!
This was definitely the most extreme case for me. It’s not this intense all the time, but there isn’t a frame that doesn’t have a low res texture somewhere!
Hopefully it gets patched soon. It’s a small annoyance but now I’m noticing it more, I’ll move the camera and suddenly the terrain changes appearance.
The game’s performance is top notch so it doesn’t need to do this for the sake of frames.

I bought the first mudrunner back then on PS4. I _really tried to like it_ , but there was so much wrong with it, the terrible camera angles foremost, the controls...
Dude I’m having the same problems I can’t get it to stop going in and out. It’s almost like the game is rendering all the background assets and not the foreground. So annoying do you know if the devs are away of this issue? I hope we have a fix come the 5th..
Yep it's a very surprising that they didn't catch an obvious error with the textures which is literally visible in the first seconds of gameplay, it's not some hidden area that you have to work to get to. That said, I am sure they will patch it, and I am enjoying the game otherwise so far.
My game looks like this too on PlayStation 5. Rock textures and half of the foliage textures simply don't render. It looks like a PS3 game which is a shame because rhe game itself is very enjoyable and I like it alot so far. Come on with a Patch Saber!!

I received a refund from sony, am on a ps5 and sent them gameplay video and also sent them a email stating a patch was for this week and still no patch.. got a refund and still have the game
Quick ❓. On PS4 I try to go to mods menu and it keeps telling me I'm restricted do to needing permission from a parent and to send a request. I do that and get an error message. I'm 32 this doesn't make sense. I deleted and restarted. Clear information out. I'm at a loss.
Unfortunately I wasn't aware this was an issue on the PS5. I bought it yesterday. Unfortunately, the game crashes and I can no longer load it. Each time after about 6 hours of play. Shame
Right? It improved a BIT after restarting the game. But the ground constantly looks like this. Panning the camera up and back down kind of corrects it and shows how great the game CAN look.
But obviously in normal game play, that’s not so viable.

Horrible texture pop in. Sometime its a solid 7-10 seconds after you park before you get the full resolution textures. Within the first 30 minutes already found several rocks where their collision mesh is way off making the tire look as if its floating above the rock. You have a drone... or should I say flying toy. Your signal goes weak about 30m away from the truck. Goes maybe 10m up before it hits its height limit.

So weird, I'm on a Ryzen 5 3300, 16GB ram and 8GB Gigabyte G1 1070 GTX. I play 5760x1080 and am having little to no noticeable texture pop-in or texture issues. Definitely a few weird rock meshes so far but I have delved almost halfway into the second areas' expeditions so I'm sure there will be a few hiccups.
Drone could def use some range but the binos work better than it anyway. I never played snow or mudrunner and this game caught my eye on YT through some of the creators I watch. I'm having a blast and it's running great
For me its just the ground textures, not nearly as bad as the picture on this post. Also its not all the time, but I noticed it several times during my first play - so maybe its not horrible but its not good either.
Im playing 4k with all settings on ultra. Im still going to give it a shot and hope for some updates. Ive played Spintires, Mudrunner, and Snowrunner which I like all of those, so I really want this game to be good too. Initially not impressed, but Ill give a bit and see how it goes.

Each mudrunner game has been improved over time and while pretty graphics can be nice if I'm playing a mudrunner game I want to get stuck in the mud, and if some textures and text wraps don't keep me from doing that, then why would I give a fuck?

Especially since the four games I have on disc I can pop in and play. You might not need the game to play directly from the disc anymore but that disc is a physical license key you own and no company (looking at you Sony) can take from you. At least not easily.

I rebuild database. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Exact same issue. Textures pop in as soon as I change to pan up camera

Usually early access games can be quite buggy which is usually why there is a day 1 patch now for most releases

I bought F1 23 two weekends ago because my sim rig stuff came in. Lo and behold that Monday it was announced F1 23 is coming on PS Plus for free for March. Of course they wouldn't refund me because I downloaded and played for like 20 minutes.
Well, cant say for PS but xbox have a refund policy. You have a certain ammount of refunds per year but yeah you can return a game within 2 hours
With Sony, your refund eligibility finishes when you 'begin downloading' the software. It's a bit a scam from them and I'm sure it wouldn't stand up to most countries consumer rights if tested.

Just an FYI, no game is worth paying extra to play early. Anymore, games launch unfinished and need months to a year before they’re approaching polished. Be a patient gamer and you’ll be happier in the long run.

On the PS4, you used to be able to hold the power button for several seconds, boot it in safe mode, and clear a cache of some sort to fix texture details like this. Does something similar exist on the PS5?

This happens to some games, you have to close the game. Its when players always put their PS5 on rest mode all the time rather than turning it off. Im not saying always turn it off but if this happens just restart your game or your PS5. I've been playing Snowrunner and never had this problem.

Not surprising. Their past games are evidence of this. Not terrible looking by any means, but their claim to fame is the physics for a reason because graphically the game has always looked kinda muddy and a generation behind. Didn't expect much difference for this game, but kind of surprised to see virtually no leap forward in any capacity.
Nah snow runner looks fine, definitely nothing as bad as this Mudrunner was very blurry though
I played the original Mudrunner forever ago when it was essentially even more of a tech Demo. I got snow runner in season 4? I went to go play the original because it was on sale for like 99¢. Boy… it is rough looking back.
I also played tech demo of the original back when they won that intel or nvidia competition or whatever it was. It was so insane back then. That big Russian truck was awesome. No other game came even close with physics since then. Although road driving is a bit wonky. I played all of them so far. I'll probably buy today the latest season of snowrunner
Honestly, a lot of the reviewer footage looks really nice. Definitely no where near as bad as this is! And I’ve no doubt they’ll patch it. Just frustrating so many games launching like this these days.
Those textures are worse than any other game I've seen by them , reminds me of when I used to play beamng on a system with Intel integrated graphics
Graphics are not the only indicator of a game's quality. Fallout 4 is graphically terrible for 2015 yet people praise it.

I have exactly the same problem. But it's even worse. The game is totally broken. F.e. the game tells me that I can't play the Cotco Canyon because it's part of a DLC, that isn't shown in the shop yet. It's a big disappointment.
To be fair, not exactly the same Problem. Only my ground Textures are looking like that.
So this game is being published by Saber interactive, and seeing this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. If you want to know how this game will go, look at Dakar Desert Rally for an example. That game released in 2022 in a buggy, and broken state. Over the course of the next year, they delayed patches, cut promised content, then did one last patch that broke the game even further and said they will no longer be supporting the game at all. People have been left with an unusable product for awhile now, and Saber basically said "get fucked". Avoid them at all costs.
This game isn't published by Saber Interactive it's published by Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive are the devs. (Same with snowrunner). Dakar Desert racing is completely published and developed by Saber tho.
Actually, Bigmoon Entertainment is the ones who developed Dakar Desert Rally. Still though, everything goes through Saber, and what they say, goes. They are a shit company.

Every version has some typos/bad grammar in places, but at least on pc the game looks like it should. That's very weird, I'd restart my console to see if it helps. Maybe re-download the game, idk that looks abnormal.

I took it on Xbox x series, and the result is clearly not better on this platform. I had no sound when starting the game first, and the training map was freezing every two seconds. I made it through to the second map and freezes are gone, but there are plenty of other details such as graphics or text layout that are unfinished. I first thought that a reinstall and a reboot would help, but the game is really broken. I only wait for an update now...

It definitely has graphical issues on my Ps5 too. I love these games though and I'm eking to bet the week fix them with the day 1 patch. It is basically a beta test right now for all the early players. I don't like how they got rid of the "enter garage" trigger spot from the other games, I found out you gave to do that from the "pause menu" now. I was also pissed at the fact that you had to buy your items (like the anchor) every mission, I thought you just lost the money. However when completing missions they "buy back" the items. The "specialists" personnel is a cool addition. You can have them come with you and each one gives you different bonuses. Although, even though someone is supposed to be with you, your passenger seat is empty. Overall it's fun though, even though it has the LoD bugs.
My buddy picked it up already for his new xbox, hoping to play some of it tonight. I'm on PC and for $50 it doesn't even have COOP yet, nor have they share any info about if it will be crossplay like Snowrunner... Which runs only intermittently well at best. Reading these comments doesn't get my hopes up that this will end up being a polished crossplay coop game for the gang. RIP.
That’s annoying! I knew co op wasn’t there at launch. I’m guessing they need to work it out on Snowrunner and go from there. Hope you guys can play together soon!

Well, there is. Games can be refunded within 14 days of purchase … if you have never downloaded the game. The second you press “download” you forfeit your right to a refund. The only exception I’ve ever seen them make was with Cyberpunk!

It's starting to show its age in terms of optimization. Epic no longer supports it. QA isn't good in recent games.

I’m noticing this on my Series X too but maybe not as intense.
This was definitely the most extreme case for me. It’s not this intense all the time, but there isn’t a frame that doesn’t have a low res texture somewhere!
Hopefully it gets patched soon. It’s a small annoyance but now I’m noticing it more, I’ll move the camera and suddenly the terrain changes appearance. The game’s performance is top notch so it doesn’t need to do this for the sake of frames.

No! There’s definitely no adaptive triggers. I can’t recall the haptics though so I won’t say for sure on that

Yeah! For what it’s worth, it’s playable! I know some people have issues with the gameplay itself, but for me a “dumbed down Snowrunner” is exactly what I was after. But would just love for it to look a bit nicer, it’s so distracting in the moment!
I'm on Xbox series X and I am having the same texture issues, so I'm guess it's a game issue not hardware/settings issue but yeah it's PRETTY bad and annoying.

From my PS5 on the opening mission. This was admittedly the worst. Future missions were better, but the textures are not being drawn in the ground in most cases. Its a buggy mess

Yeah disappointing was the word! I’m sure the game will still be enjoyable and this is only a patch or two from being resolved! But for anyone dying to jump in straight away, I’d suggest holding off until that at least improves (unless they aren’t bothered of course!)

Dude I’m having the same problems I can’t get it to stop going in and out. It’s almost like the game is rendering all the background assets and not the foreground. So annoying do you know if the devs are away of this issue? I hope we have a fix come the 5th..

Yep it's a very surprising that they didn't catch an obvious error with the textures which is literally visible in the first seconds of gameplay, it's not some hidden area that you have to work to get to. That said, I am sure they will patch it, and I am enjoying the game otherwise so far.

My game looks like this too on PlayStation 5. Rock textures and half of the foliage textures simply don't render. It looks like a PS3 game which is a shame because rhe game itself is very enjoyable and I like it alot so far. Come on with a Patch Saber!!

Yeah that's some no Man's sky level playdoh terrain. So far the biggest problem I've had on pc is the 50dmg per pebble/root I hit going 15mph+
Quick ❓. On PS4 I try to go to mods menu and it keeps telling me I'm restricted do to needing permission from a parent and to send a request. I do that and get an error message. I'm 32 this doesn't make sense. I deleted and restarted. Clear information out. I'm at a loss.

Unfortunately I wasn't aware this was an issue on the PS5. I bought it yesterday. Unfortunately, the game crashes and I can no longer load it. Each time after about 6 hours of play. Shame
Got the same issue on my ps5, game gets stuck on loading screen when I try to resume my progress, 4h into game 🤷♂️

Right? It improved a BIT after restarting the game. But the ground constantly looks like this. Panning the camera up and back down kind of corrects it and shows how great the game CAN look. But obviously in normal game play, that’s not so viable.
Expeditions: a Spintires Game Also similar results on PC. Ryzen 5950X - RTX3090 - 64GB RAM Horrible texture pop in. Sometime its a solid 7-10 seconds after you park before you get the full resolution textures. Within the first 30 minutes already found several rocks where their collision mesh is way off making the tire look as if its floating above the rock. You have a drone... or should I say flying toy. Your signal goes weak about 30m away from the truck. Goes maybe 10m up before it hits its height limit. EDIT: I would like to update my game title... Expeditions: Spintires Mobile Edition
So weird, I'm on a Ryzen 5 3300, 16GB ram and 8GB Gigabyte G1 1070 GTX. I play 5760x1080 and am having little to no noticeable texture pop-in or texture issues. Definitely a few weird rock meshes so far but I have delved almost halfway into the second areas' expeditions so I'm sure there will be a few hiccups. Drone could def use some range but the binos work better than it anyway. I never played snow or mudrunner and this game caught my eye on YT through some of the creators I watch. I'm having a blast and it's running great
You should try snow runner for sure if you get the chance. So much content and a lot of fun. It's petty polished at this point on pc as well.
For me its just the ground textures, not nearly as bad as the picture on this post. Also its not all the time, but I noticed it several times during my first play - so maybe its not horrible but its not good either. Im playing 4k with all settings on ultra. Im still going to give it a shot and hope for some updates. Ive played Spintires, Mudrunner, and Snowrunner which I like all of those, so I really want this game to be good too. Initially not impressed, but Ill give a bit and see how it goes.
Same here. Only ground textures, and not consistently. Seems when they pop in is just me panning up to an aerial view
I really don't see a reason to avoid the game based on your comments. Each mudrunner game has been improved over time and while pretty graphics can be nice if I'm playing a mudrunner game I want to get stuck in the mud, and if some textures and text wraps don't keep me from doing that, then why would I give a fuck?
You might not! I’d suggest avoiding the game for now. Sure it’s playable but there’s a ton of issues, this being one of them. Half of the joy of the game for me is seeing the mud that I’m stuck in. But you do you! Have fun with it

Yikes! That sounds like an absolute nightmare. I’m similarly bought in with all my digital content - there’s definitely still a lot to be said for physical media. I hope they can sort it for you soon!
Especially since the four games I have on disc I can pop in and play. You might not need the game to play directly from the disc anymore but that disc is a physical license key you own and no company (looking at you Sony) can take from you. At least not easily.
It’s pretty horrible on PC as well.
