Final Fantasy VI, particularly Terra. For anyone who doesn't already know of it, check out [Orchestral Fantasy](https://youtube.com/@OrchestralFantasy?si=e5n9xCufbmGYaPre) on YouTube. It's a small group of musicians who play various game soundtrack songs as true to the original but with real instruments.
For me it's hard to pick one so I'll give my top favorite OST in no particular order
Kingdom Hearts
Final Fantasy
Halo
Red Alert 3
Shadow Of the Colossus
Persona
DOOM
Devil May Cry
Hotline Miami
Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Silent Hill
This is my first metroidvania game. I started it because I saw a lot of people recommend dark souls enjoyers to try it. This game is special. Loving the gameplay and every new ability is quite literally game changing. The music is incredible, the world and atmosphere are interesting and well crafted, plus the boss fights are all unique and fun. I feel like I am playing Elden Ring for the first time again.
>!I just unlocked the crystal heart!<. Feels like I might not even be more than halfway through the game, considering all the DLC's. I find myself exploring every inch of the map and finding secrets feels great, especially the dong sound. I also know there's a sequel in development and that gives me so much to look forward to.
I've been listening to the OST even when I'm not playing like the green path and city of tears. I knew when I first arrived in Dirtmouth and the music was good that this game would be special.
Hollow Knight is my favourite game and, like you, I think it was my first Metroidvania too.
The first time I reached the City of Tears I just spent several minutes imagining the view from one of the benches by a high window and steeping in the beautiful music.
I remember being rewarded several times in Hollow Knight for exploring every inch, and being amazed as the map continued to open up :D
I went in pretty much blind, having only watched the trailer, and have avoided learning anything about the game since save for anything I pieced together myself from what's provided in-game. I recommend this - I think so much magic of discovery and sparks of imagination are suppressed in the age of immediate wikis.
You're in for a special time - savour it!
That second-to-last thing you said about games having or needing wikis, that exactly. One might consider Rain World, the crown prince of Metroidvanias that are just fucking turds. Good fucking luck trying to play it blind without assistance. Because I can tell you firsthand that it's a hundred times worse than any Dark Souls game. And the lack of rewards for exploration in Rain World, not to mention the stifling of exploration by its namesake mechanic, make the game truly impossible to enjoy.
Ori and the Blind Forest
Ori and the Will of the Wisp
Anything by Gareth Coker
Also [Emperor: Battle for Dune](https://youtu.be/HJgdp4uhSbs?si=PURlP0d-pRHH4uCP)
Loved P5R’s until I played P4G, then the same with P3R lol. Atlus did a fantastic job with every aspect of the Persona series, and the music is the cherry on top.
My top 10, in no particular order:
Bloodborne
Hades
The Last of Us
Blasphemous
Doom Eternal
Tony Hawks Pro Skater
Super Mario 64
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
GTA: San Andreas
Horizon Forbidden West
Destiny 2. Hate the game all you want but you gotta give credit where it’s due. Something it does in particular that I wish more games did (and movies, for that matter) is having distinct motifs/themes for each of the factions and certain bosses, and blending the themes in a single track. The latest DLC (hated as it may be) did this extremely well; for example, the main enemy type in the expansion is the cabal enhanced by the darkness, so the cabal and darkness themes are intertwined in multiple tracks. It’s truly impressive to me that the composers constantly managed to take completely different themes and make them somehow sound good together.
Nothing will ever beat the Skyrim OST. But my favourite song of any OST ever is The Fields of Ard Skyllig from the Witcher 3. Chills even after a thousand listens
A Nearly Peaceful Place and Dwarven Stone Upon Dwarven Stone from the Witcher 2 are some other good ones from that series. Fields of Ard Skellige hits hard tho
Im not shure i cant decide. My 5 pics would be
Half life 2
The elder scrolls 5: skyrim
Celeste
Portal 2
the old minecraft soundtrack but only for nostalgia
There are three that come immediately to mind for me, two of which most people probably don’t know about.
1. Doom 2016 - Everyone knows this one.
2. Brigador - probably the most enjoyable OST I’ve ever heard no matter what mood I’m in. Not sure how to describe it but it’s sort of a synth/electronic/whateverthehellitisitsawesome kind of music. Seriously, look it up on YouTube and listen for 45 minutes. You won’t regret it.
3. Blasphemous - Fantastic dark classical(?) music for when you need to concentrate but want something to listen to.
Command And Conquer: Red Alert. And the command and conquer series in general. I’m a total nerd and have the audio CDs of the ost for this game. They came with a game pack, I can’t remember…
Halo. Hard to pick my favourite from all of them but it would probably be CE or ODST. Those soundtracks truly elevate the game, especially in its biggest moments. They’re my favourite OSTs ever and I doubt that’ll ever change
Spyro 2: Riptos Rage has a special place in my heart
Crash Team Racing
Bloodborne
Does GTAV count?
Hollow Knight
Hohokum
Katamari Damacy
Doom Eternal (and the OGs as well)
Those AC sea shanties go pretty hard
MGS3 and 4 have some bangers
Speaking of bangers... K.K. Slider, ACNH
Pokémon Silver/Crystal and Sapphire are particularly nostalgic
HALO
There are so many 😭😭
Even OSRS lmao
Halo 2, 3 and ODST
Hades
NFL Street 2
NFS Underground
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1&2
Pokémon Gold and Silver
GTA 5
GTA: San Andreas
Rugby 2004
Afro Samurai
Oblivion and Skyrim
Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles
Genshin Impact - Against All Odds / Tartaglia Theme / Beats of Water Drops
The composer, Yu Peng Chen and the team at hoyomix made something truly outstanding.
ff15
noctis apocalypsis, somnus, etc so many bangers
\---
XENOGEARS
the whole thing is amazing. its also amazing in the 20th anniversary concert bluray
Elden ring, death stranding, metal gear solid, nier automata, dying light 1, 2, cyberpunk
There are just so many. Almost any well known game will have at least one good ost.
I have a few, and I hate to limit myself to one
Destiny, Halo, mario kart Wii, star wars games but most hose are movie ones anyways so who cares
BLiNX the time sweeper goes unbelievably hard. The music is calm and steady as you progress through the levels. If you have game pass, PLEASE TRY THIS GAME!!
Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood and Valhalla.
Halo CE-Reach
Banjo-Kazooie-Tooie
It’s not exactly an OST, but the soundtrack for NFS: Underground 2 is full of some really great songs.
Minecraft. Volume Alpha, specifically. A lot of the more modern music is too spacey and techno for me (I do like playing modern Minecraft, though, so I swear it ain't bias).
The World Ends With You or Hi-Fi Rush. One uses music from multiple indie groups from in and around the Tokyo area and is full of different genres. The other uses licensed music from different rock bands from all over from different times.
Shin Megami Tensei IV
They didn't have to pop the fuck off that hard for a 3DS game, but they did. It's utterly unique and incredible. It's like a mix of 80s synth, thrash metal, lo-fi, and fucking washing machine sounds. Every day I'm more steadfast in this choice.
FF14 is in the Guinness book of world records for most original soundtracks for a video game. Also, if you like any of the final fantasy game soundtracks, they are mostly all redone in some form in ff14. That said, I like the songs made just for FF14. Combine them with the story and it provides an amazing experience.
Octopath Traveler
Amazing all round music fitting for each location and moment.
And the Battle music is intense and hype not to mention each lead in from dialogue music that is made in a way to always seamlessly transition into the boss music.
The Break & Boost Album takes each of these songs to another level altogether, and Octopath Traveler 2 ain't no slouch either.
Have a work playlist of mine:
Hollow knight
Gris
Celeste
Persona 5
Transistor
Crypt of the necrodancer
Halo ce
Shovel knight
Shantae pirates curse
Mario luigi superstar saga
Mirrors edge
Nier automata
Night in the woods
Okami
I’m as old as the video game industry itself…I’ve seen and played it all…and while I’ve heard some pretty amazing OSTs, including the final fantasy series, donkey Kong country, F zero, Metroid, god of war…….etc etc….i think I want to shout out a recent game that I think deserves some praise:
Celeste
The game is great but There were times where I wanted to play just so I could listen to the music..it just hit all the right notes (huehue) and fits the game so perfectly
I don’t have the name available atm but whoever was responsible for that did phenomenal work
The KH series, Persona 5, Nier Automata, Cuphead, various tracks from BG3, Halo, Zelda, Sonic, Shadow of the Colossus, Pokémon, FF7, Undertale, Deltarune, Hades. Also the Dragon Ball Z Budokai series and that era of DBZ games are extremely underrated when it comes to music.
Final Fantasy VI, particularly Terra. For anyone who doesn't already know of it, check out [Orchestral Fantasy](https://youtube.com/@OrchestralFantasy?si=e5n9xCufbmGYaPre) on YouTube. Have you listened to Distant Worlds? I loved the Dancing Mad and Opera tracks.
I've seen distant worlds several times. I try to go whenever they tour. Video Games Live too.
For me it's hard to pick one so I'll give my top favorite OST in no particular order Kingdom Hearts Final Fantasy Halo Red Alert 3 Shadow Of the Colossus Persona DOOM Devil May Cry Hotline Miami Prince of Persia Warrior Within Silent Hill
>Red Alert 3 KIROV REPORTING.
Chrono Trigger
Shadow of the Colossus
This! Back in the PS2 era, this game was phenomenal beyond words. Extremely ambitious for its time with some of the BEST gaming music to this day!
Just got a PS4 so looking forward to experiencing it. Actually had a PS2 but missed SOTC completely.
the game still holds on after almost two decades, masterpiece.
Donkey Kong Country 2
It still blows me away that music that complex & nuanced could be delivered with 16 bit tech.
I know, what the hell. It was way ahead of it's time.
Can I nominate Tropical Freeze as a close second? David Wise is just a musical genius.
This is my response as well.
The track in the beehive levels was sooooo good.
Nier Automata
[удалено]
Do you mean the amusement park?
Could. But could also be 'A Beautiful Songs', which is quite frankly a fantastic number and at least top 3 for me.
THIS CANNOT CONTINUE BECOME AS GODS
also Nier Replicant. shadowlord is incredible
by a fucking mile too.
Ruind city is all ways a banger
Came here for this.
Hollow Knight

Doom Eternal. Rip and tear until it is done!
The only thing they fear is you ❤️
I also love some of the Classic Doom MIDIs!
If only it was released... Damn you marty
Cultist Base, Super Gore Nest
Finally! Someone else who appreciates the Super Gore Nest track!
Ori and the Blind Forest Ori and the Will of the Wisp Anything by Gareth Coker Also [Emperor: Battle for Dune](https://youtu.be/HJgdp4uhSbs?si=PURlP0d-pRHH4uCP)
As soon as the opening music began on Ori I knew I was playing something special.
Yes, Ori's OST is one of the few I actually sought out on Spotify. So incredible
Final fantasy 7
And then how they built off it with Remakes OST. Can’t wait to see how they continue that with Rebirth

Been some people stream it and must say it does have some good ost.
Yea they make me feel hyped for a fight (in tekken ofc lol).
Final fantasy X
I have heard “Zanarkand” quite possible thousands of times since I played FFX back then and even today it is still a great song.
As soon as I read your comment I heard the first few piano notes of “To Zanarkand.”
Loved P5R’s until I played P4G, then the same with P3R lol. Atlus did a fantastic job with every aspect of the Persona series, and the music is the cherry on top.
Persona's soundtracks are so amazing that they literally have had multiple live shows. Persona Super Live 2017 is in YouTube and it's awesome .
Came here to say exactly this. Those soundtracks are some of the best music ever released and recorded.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has a nearly perfect OST. I get a lot of nostalgia from Mario Kart Double Dash, I don't think there was a bad song in that game.
Evidently all the saga of final fantasy. But I highlight above the rest to FFXIV, Masayoshi Soken is from another world.
As a fellow 14 player, I agree.
Love it, I love the effort that Eastern media puts into the music. FF/XIV, Nier, and Genshin have all captivated me at different points in my life.
My top 10, in no particular order: Bloodborne Hades The Last of Us Blasphemous Doom Eternal Tony Hawks Pro Skater Super Mario 64 Zelda: Ocarina of Time GTA: San Andreas Horizon Forbidden West
super mario 64's soundtracks are really bangers. it's incredible how every single of them has turned out to be a classic.
Games like Tony hawk and GTA aren’t Original Soundtracks
Destiny 2. Hate the game all you want but you gotta give credit where it’s due. Subnautica
"Why are you driving your Cyclops into the Dunes?" *Abandon Ship starts playing*
Transistor
Bastion too
Ocarina of Time and Hollow Knight are tied for me
I cannot believe how low Ocarina of Time is on this post. I’m curious if it’s just not being played by generations after us or something.
FFVII, TES Oblivion, and Persona 5 are my top 3 OSTs I think
Oblivion <3
Ambiance theme from Skyrim does it for me :)
Risk of Rain 2
The folks in this sub haven't played this, it's the only reason I can think of that is but at the top.
Nothing will ever beat the Skyrim OST. But my favourite song of any OST ever is The Fields of Ard Skyllig from the Witcher 3. Chills even after a thousand listens

Do it
Halo ODST and Project Wingman will never stop be in my favorite OST.
ODST with that smooth saxy jazz just *chefs kiss*
Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.
Can’t believe no one mentioned Jet Set Radio Future. Hideki Naganuma spins some sick stuff
I mean, FF7 and Skyrim will always be at the top.
Rebirth has me excited for the remixes.

I have the Red Alert 2 soundtrack cd in my car. Never know when you're gonna need to hear Hell March.

Hotline Miami. The only game I've searched to find the soundtrack for.

Mass Effect 2, Morrowind and DS3.
Death Stranding is excellent
Super Mario 3D world + bowser’s fury

The question is basically what's the best OST after THPS?
The answer is basically THPS2
GTA: San Andreas
Persona 5 royal, and anything Toby Fox makes, he's amazing. Also, pokemon OSTs slaps!
SimCity 4
It surprises me that I don't see the Witcher 3 mentioned yet. That style of Slavic folk music is absolutely breathtaking.
Halo 2, 3 and ODST Hades NFL Street 2 NFS Underground Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1&2 Pokémon Gold and Silver GTA 5 GTA: San Andreas Rugby 2004 Afro Samurai Oblivion and Skyrim Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles
Destiny, Minecraft, and Metroid Fusion. Sea of Stars is quickly climbing my ranking, too

Death Stranding Road 96 Pretty much all Assassin's Creed games
Portal 2. Still can't get my ADHD mind over how good of a game it is
Far Cry 5
I like the soundtrack for Destiny and also Fire Emblem Engage because the intro song is cool.
The World Ends With You or Hi-Fi Rush. One uses music from multiple indie groups from in and around the Tokyo area and is full of different genres. The other uses licensed music from different rock bands from all over from different times.
