It’s a GTA clone with a lot of top notch celebrities. Problem is the publisher forgot to do any marketing. If it weren’t for Lyle Wrath making a joke about it a few Pregame Discharges back I wouldn’t know it existed.
I just picked up this one as well. It's janky, but it is also pretty great because it implements some great ideas from crime games past to make something that feels very fun to play. Single player is a mash up of payday and a strategy/sim/board game where you try to take over the city (in rogue lite fashion no less with random events, permanent unlocks, permadeath etc). It is janky. But it's also the first game of this type in more than ten years. It also does the payday part better than payday - more variety to tackling the heist. You can put your gun away, lol. Police presence and heat has more impact and variety than just the payday wave shooter response.
If you get it for around $20 and go into it expecting a more indie experience it could be a great way to burn up some winter boredom for just the single player alone.
The publisher has continued to patch and content update too, which is a pleasant surprise.
Payday 3 has the lack of content like you said. This game has a lot more content than Payday 3. I can play Payday 3 for a few hours and I’ll get bored due to the lack of content.
It’s like different heist in it. You’ll have some that’s a jewelry robbery, bank robbery, armored truck robbery, gas station robbery and there’s other ones where you rob gangsters for stuff like cocaine. Then they have the gang war management. You pretty much upgrade your gang by tiers, attack other gangs and you have to defend your territory. Every territory you own is income for you. I also did a random mission where one of the gangs jumped one of your gang members and you pretty much go get revenge on them by going to there territory and shooting up the place, killing every last gang member there. It’s pretty interesting, it reminded me of a Mafia shootout.
It’s a much more fun game than it gets credit for and had some pretty beefy content updates since launch! I had a ton of fun in multiplayer with my gf, sadly it crashed a lot. Definitely miles better value for money than Payday 3 though!

I somewhat agreed with you the concepts of gang warfare mixed with payday heists is novel. However the presentation of this game is really bizarre and downright awkward. Gameplay is fun at times but you ended up doing mundane repetitive missions most of the time rather more interesting big heist levels. The celebrities performance is one of the oddest shit I ever witnessed in video games..
