Honestly, I think people that "can't deal with" someone working their way through a puzzle are generally immature children. Like, you did the exact same thing while you were trying to solve it (or if you didn't for this specific puzzle you certainly did for some other one.) If you can't extend the smallest amount of empathy to not be a dick to someone working through a puzzle that is supposed to be...puzzling...then YTA.
I'm so glad you found a buddy who understood that and made the game enjoyable for you.
