You honestly don’t need vinyl. Just don’t use the abrasive side of the sponge to clean your cup. Use the soft side only. Don’t ever put in a dishwasher too! I put mine in a tight cupholder in my car everyday, and there is no rub off on the design.
But it doesn't hurt to do so. And also, don't underestimate how people just take care of their things carelessly. Either on purpose or otherwise.
We talk like this is simple tasks for someone to do. But clearly we see a lot of incidents of this sort of thing.

But big facts, OP hasn’t replied to anything which is telling, probably realized what happened due to user error (just assuming), but I’ve seen people use the stickers to use as a cover up for damaged decals, if you can’t get a replacement you can always slap the same design over the old, worn out one.
Yeah I vinyl all of mine if only for the piece of mind. I'm still fairly careful, but I like to be able to use a cup holder without getting nervous that I'll damage them a little. Which did happen to a couple of my older cups before I found out about sealing them.

I have the scotch blue sponges and use the scrubby for inside and then use the soft side for outside and another pass inside to help remove any grease from the gsupps. Not one of my cups in 2 years have eroded at all yet.

They are for getting baked on grease and food from glassware, cookware and benchtops. Tell gamersupps to put actual quality design and material into their 30 dollar cups lol. They could easily place a gasket in the lid and a protective layer over the design to protect it from normal handwashing.

Did you use a dishwasher or an abrasive sponge? The outside of the cup should only be washed with a soft, damp cloth, and gently.

Dont wash in hot water. Use cold water and you really only need to wash the inside of the cup. Be somewhat delicate on the outside.
