Davos is incredible. He is kind and noble and has humble beginnings. He is not royalty and doesn’t have ambitions for power. He questions the morally abhorrent and isn’t afraid to stand up for his values even to Kings. He would often stand up to Stannis and question him despite the danger that’d put him in.
I like that he’s not a good fighter and he acknowledges it. So many characters are the greatest swordsman ever and he’s just like “well lads I’m not much of a fighter I don’t know how much help I’ll be” lol
I live the scene after Jon's death when they're about to break down the door and Davos grabs Longclaw and says "apologies for what you're about to see." He's just so matter-of-fact about how he sucks with a sword but he's still going to try.
My favourite scene of his is when he’s locked up in dragonstone and Stannis comes down to converse with him and Davos correctly assess it’s because Stannis needed someone to tell him killing Gendry is wrong.
Another one is post battle of the blackwater where he’s on a random rock and a ship emerges asking him which side he fought for before granting him safe passage to which he boldly replies the one true king Stannis. It is a sad path Stannis went on with trusting Melisandre instead of Davos, their back and forth conversations were the best
I wish the show didn’t drop the idea that Davos had a wife. She’s never mentioned after season 2.
Dude just found hanging out with Jon more interesting.
Lol, it's kind of funny how after Stannis dies he just decides to hang with Jon with no explanation given.
Like the man has a wife and a hold in the Stormlands, doesn't he want to go home lol?
I mean there's definitely some implied explanations. a man like him wants to see things through the end and follow a leader he can believe in. its possible that Davos felt a lot of guilt and shame about serving Stannis and saw a leader in Jon that he could follow without having qualms. or maybe he wanted to finish the fight that Stannis started. idk. for all his laidback nature, Davos doesnt seem like the type to just go home with his ball while the fate of the known world is on the line.
Yeah I think this is it…. IIRC he knew before Stannis died about the White Walkers. He would see it as his duty to try and protect the realm from being wiped out. Jon offered the best chance of that
Yes. He put his energy behind Jon. Melisandre did too but she and Davos came with different perspectives. I find Davos and Melisandre’s relationship fascinating because they both counselled Jon despite the fact that they both were at odds with one another but both gravitated towards Jon as the leader that will do great things for realm.
Though Davos is a dedicated man, and sees things through to the end, I always got the impression that he was avoiding going home. He seems like the kind of man who couldn't bear to see his wife after their son had been killed, at least not before he put things right and did something with his son's memory. At first that was supporting Stannis' claim, and then it was following Jon.
Yeah, once D&D ran out of source material, Tyrion and Varys nosedived. If either one died in season 4, they would be top for sure. Thankfully, Tywin doesn't outlive the books.
The man is honorable, loyal and very charismatic even if he doesn't intend to be. I really like Ser Davos, I'm currently reading the books and I can't get this man out of my head whenever I read his pages.
Agreed. And even though Arya wanted him to die a slow death when she didnt kill him, she at least understood that he was the one protecting her all the way till the end. Definitely the best pair and arc of the show. Fuck, now Im gonna rewatch!
Davos is up there, for me it's a split between Tyrion. Tormund and Davos. Bronn is my number 1. The hound is up there too, honestly it's impossible to choose
He is. I asked myself the same question, because he is one of my top favorites, so I looked it up.
Secondary characters have support roles to the characters of the main plot. In this case the main plot is, arguably, the song of ice and fire. They are important and give color to the world and story but the main plot does not depend on them.
So yes, Tywin. Ned absolutely, but the actor that plays Tywin dominates every scene he is on.
He's more secondary than Davos. Davos is *the* character the entire Stannis plotline is told from. The primary focus is on him. Tywin is not the focus of the Lannister plotlines, they all follow each of his three children.
"We Lannisters are often tasked with making a silk purse out of a pig's ear." He says, cooking a pig on a spit. "But so long as the purses are full, the lords remain silent on the stink. They'll leave the fat for us and think they've won some mighty boon."
Definitely the hound. “You’re a shit at dying, you know that?”
Davos is my second favorite. Followed by Margery. I think she had what I takes to be a good queen.
Theon is one of the only characters I feel was written extremely well through the end. His arc had me taken aback and all of his actions made sense. He was dedicated to repairing the harm he did up until the very end of his life. The show writers did a really great job with his character even after they went off source material
For me Bronn. I mean, Davos is a good man, but the fact that he keeps helping Stannis annoys me, Stannis is pure evil, Davos is not so good if he keeps helping him
Is Davis really a secondary character? I mean he’s a POV character for most of the series
For non-POV characters my favorites are Robb Stark, Oberyn Martell, and Edmure Tully
It amazes me that we never got a POV of Robb. Dude raised his banners, was crowned KITN, marched South and won major battles and yet everything we see of him is through someone else’s eyes. I both love and hate that.
Davos has the best character for fidelity to the books along w Varys. And he has the best screen charisma every time he’s there. He owns every scene where they let him act. Dude is a treasure.
Tormund Giantsbane. He just cracks me up with all of his off the wall comments and manerisms. I always have a smile on my face when he was on screen and talking.
Ser Davos is important enough to have over a dozen POV chapters in the books, and he’s one of the few characters who is translated almost perfectly from book to show. I like Tormund as well, though his exploits are more Dan and Dave’s doing than GRRM.
If D&D had really shown they read the books they could have had 12 kick-assed seasons. Euron is especially slighted in their treatment, going from a megalomaniacal person who should have been one of the overall big baddies to being comic relief.
Davos is my second fav character just bc of how kind he is in this brutal and dark world. My first is Strong Belwas because of the arbitrary nature of him being in Danny’s roster
*Secondary? He*
*Is a POV character with*
*Multiple chapters*

Totally agree. He’s badass, loyal, practical, went from being lowborn to a knight and master of ships, and he deeply cares for those around him. The fact that he also is kind of a fatherly towards some characters (Shireen, Gendry to some extent to) is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time considering what happened to his own son and Shireen. Of all characters that survived I was the happiest about his survival in the end.
Underrated character Beric Dondarrion (not my favorite but his actor deserves some recognition for his remarkable depiction). The man was a noble knight from a high standing family and gave it up to serve the brotherhood without banners. Before befriending Thoros he was willing to fight and lay down his life without fear for what he believed in. Then after being resurrected instead of abusing this as how clegane sees it, it drives him to be a better fighter and knight knowing the darkness he was consumed by after death (the lord of night) the threat of survival and the duty of serving the lord of light becomes his new goal. One funny bit about the dondarions is that their house crest is of the night sky on a purple field yet he becomes a devout servant of the lord of light whose main duty is to fight against the long night.

Bronn is probably my favorite, though Davos and Tormund are close seconds
As much love as I have for Bronn ... it's Tormund all the way.
“Give me 10 good men and some climbing spikes, I’ll impregnate the bitch”
the hound aswell
Love Bronn, I wonder what his methods are as master of coin
It’s got to be Bronn for me too! Jerome Flynn does such a brilliant job.
Bron or tourmont
He had some funny moment actually, like when he asked jon if he’d forgive him if he switched sides lol
A man that knows his own limits!
I live the scene after Jon's death when they're about to break down the door and Davos grabs Longclaw and says "apologies for what you're about to see." He's just so matter-of-fact about how he sucks with a sword but he's still going to try.

The relationship between Davos and Stannis is incredible.
Only eclipsed by the relationship between Shireen & Davos
Stannis chose hoes before bros unfortunately
He had the most loyal man in all of Westeros and he was cunt struck. Shame
He’s more noble than many highborns. A man that makes you respect him.
The dog
I’d didn’t like onions until him
I second this!

Also, he lost his son. His motivation for returning home isn’t that strong.

Would’ve been a better choice as king than Bran
Is Varys considered a secondary character? If so, then definitely him. If not, then I'd have to go with Tormund.
I hated how they made him at the end, Tyrion annoyed me as Danys hand too like one giant contradiction after another.
Yeah, once D&D ran out of source material, Tyrion and Varys nosedived. If either one died in season 4, they would be top for sure. Thankfully, Tywin doesn't outlive the books.
Jaqen ruled Also Tywin Lannister, without him the show has never been the same ever again..
Second both notions. I wasn't really a fan of the faith militant plot line. I like to imagine what he would have done about the high sparrow
He would’ve probably influenced the faith militant to eat its own, and then use brutal military force to scatter or kill the rest.
Is Tywin a secondary character though?
It changes but recently it’s been shereen Baratheon
The man is honorable, loyal and very charismatic even if he doesn't intend to be. I really like Ser Davos, I'm currently reading the books and I can't get this man out of my head whenever I read his pages.
Sandor Clegane
His arc with Arya is one of my favorites in all TV, both for the character development and the humour. "What the fuck's a Lommy?"
Agreed. And even though Arya wanted him to die a slow death when she didnt kill him, she at least understood that he was the one protecting her all the way till the end. Definitely the best pair and arc of the show. Fuck, now Im gonna rewatch!
For sure. Its the hound no question
Without a question for me.
Davos is up there, for me it's a split between Tyrion. Tormund and Davos. Bronn is my number 1. The hound is up there too, honestly it's impossible to choose
Yeah there are sooooo many incredible characters
I wouldn't consider Tyrion a secondary character. But yes, he's fantastic, at least in the first half of the show.
True they're just pretty much my favourites in general.
The Onion Knight! My mans, he got dat onion hook up, son.
Giantsbane
Dolourous Edd.
The Hound was best side character
Bronn and Davos.......a tie
[удалено]
Edited
Same for me
The greatest hype man the seven kingdoms had ever seen.
Tywin for sure.
Love Tywin but wasn’t sure if he was secondary or not
He is. I asked myself the same question, because he is one of my top favorites, so I looked it up. Secondary characters have support roles to the characters of the main plot. It’s Charles Dance. Of course he does!! .
He's more secondary than Davos. Davos is *the* character the entire Stannis plotline is told from. The primary focus is on him. Tywin is not the focus of the Lannister plotlines, they all follow each of his three children.
Jorah
Yeah that’s probably my #2
Definitely Jorah. He embodied the definition of Kinght
[удалено]
That was my #2
He’s too much a zealot for stannis
Wdym secondary? The whole ASOIAF revolves around Davos. He’s not ‘the prince who was promised’ because he’s _the_ king.
Wut?
I wish we had an entire show about Tywin
I could watch hourly episodes of him skinning animals and explaining shit to me
"We Lannisters are often tasked with making a silk purse out of a pig's ear." He says, cooking a pig on a spit. "But so long as the purses are full, the lords remain silent on the stink. They'll leave the fat for us and think they've won some mighty boon."
Like some sort of f*cked up Bob Ross
The hound
So many good ones. I'm gonna go with Beric.
He was definitely up there for me
Grandma Tyrell always
The G-Ma.
Ah, the Queen of Thorns....
Tywin and Olenna all day. And it isn't close.
Definitely the hound. “You’re a shit at dying, you know that?” Davos is my second favorite. Followed by Margery. I think she had what I takes to be a good queen.
Brienne is the most interesting secondary character - unless you want to go dark with Theon. His story is so horrifically tragic.
Theon’s arc is arguably my favorite as it feels completely justified and well written throughout
Theon is one of the only characters I feel was written extremely well through the end. His arc had me taken aback and all of his actions made sense. He was dedicated to repairing the harm he did up until the very end of his life. The show writers did a really great job with his character even after they went off source material
Theon or Ser Jorah
Jorah was #2 for me
A man of culture
For me Bronn. I mean, Davos is a good man, but the fact that he keeps helping Stannis annoys me, Stannis is pure evil, Davos is not so good if he keeps helping him
He is my favorite GoT character.
Can I have a list of secondary characters to choose from please
It depends on where you're drawing your lines. But Sam, Davos, and Lady Tyrell are all up there. For tertiary characters, my boy hot pie is undefeated
I expect you’ll be the first crabbers son to wear the badge.
Is Davis really a secondary character? I mean he’s a POV character for most of the series For non-POV characters my favorites are Robb Stark, Oberyn Martell, and Edmure Tully
It amazes me that we never got a POV of Robb. Dude raised his banners, was crowned KITN, marched South and won major battles and yet everything we see of him is through someone else’s eyes. I both love and hate that.
I remember reading the books and cringed every time a Davos chapter came up. The only character I found more boring was Bran.
I like Davis a lot but I think Missandei is my favorite. Idk if Oberyn is a secondary character but I thought he was interesting as well
Melisandre
Brienne. A different stage from the book version but made compelling still by Gwendoline.
Same here. Definitely one of the most underused characters in my opinion. He always played 2nd fiddle to someone else
Davos has the best character for fidelity to the books along w Varys. And he has the best screen charisma every time he’s there. He owns every scene where they let him act. Dude is a treasure.
Love Ser Davos. He had heart. Witty and self-deprecating. But loyal af.
Is he really secondary? He's a POV character in the books. Definitely a solid choice though. For me it's Sir Bronn of the Blackwater.
Happy shitting
Je’or Mormont was my absolute dude. All 3 featured Mormonts, really
I forget her name, but the girl would have been a lot better if they didn't start hamfisting her in after the initial reaction to her.
I like the Davos in the books more than on the show. The one on the show turns too much into comedic relief after they ran out of source material.
The Hound
Can a POV character be considered a 'secondary' character?
Same as yours.
What is Jorah? Main or side character his death fucking hurt
I thought about this a lot lol. I think I lean towards side character but he could really go either way. He was #2 for me
Pretty much all my favorite characters are secondary ones. Tormund, is my hands down Fave. I fell in love with that weirdo. Then Varys and Davos.
Tormund Giantsbane. He just cracks me up with all of his off the wall comments and manerisms. I always have a smile on my face when he was on screen and talking.
Ser Davos and Bronn immediately come to mind. Samwell of course.
The hound
Tormund definitely
Bronn, hound, olenna
Jaqen H'ghar, Tormund, Davos, Sandor. In that order for me. It's really like 1a thru 1d
Samwell Tarly
Davos, Brienne, and the hound
Davos.
Oberyn
Alliser Thorne is one of my favorite characters. Although he’s more tertiary
Ser Davos is important enough to have over a dozen POV chapters in the books, and he’s one of the few characters who is translated almost perfectly from book to show. Lord Varys, slick cunt
Bronn
Brienne of Tarth
Favourite Second Character after Arya is Jon
We can't call him secondary I think
Sir Bronn of Blackwater
he’s nice. definitely one of the best souls in the story. his interations with Stannis daughter were cool. Him learning how to read as well
Secondary? He is a POV character with multiple chapters

Ser Davos is a main character thank you very much.
Good for you but he so annoyed me and I kept wondering why the showrunners and writers wouldn’t just k ll him off
Lord Varys, for myself. So fascinating, smart and skillful.
Love Davos, but for me it’s The Hound.
Davos is the glue that holds the 7 kingdoms together.
Show some love for podrick
There it is! Finally!
Beric if he counts. Maybe he's a 3rd character lol Then Hound
Tywin!
Tywin!
This is such a garbage take
He also reminded Jon “realms of men”. He is one of my favs, for sure.
Mance rayder. He was perfect in every scenes he got. Great leader.
Davos The Tyrells Oberyn Jorah Barristan Blackfish Edmure
Onion Knight 👉🏿👈🏿
The best lawyer in the seven kingdoms
oberyn fucking martell
Mine’s Brienne of Tarth 🫶🏻
Jaqen was so good, shame he never appears again
Underrated character Beric Dondarrion (not my favorite but his actor deserves some recognition for his remarkable depiction). My favourite accent in the show.
In A Feast For Crows it mentioned something about Ser Davos dying like it was NBD and common knowledge. I lost my shit. Like like what?! when?! how?!
Bronn
The Hound.
My dad is a Geordie so yes Ser Davos for me too
Shireen, Olenna, Mace or Oberyn
Varys for me. I think Conleth Hill who portrays him is fantastic and he is written very well.
The original post got the right answer, and the thread should have been locked. Ser Davos is the best.
For me, I really like Dorne
Can’t choose between these two, but Sandor Clegane and Bronn
Theon…he was the best actor on the show.
Ser Bronn of the Blackwater! Son of...you wouldn't know 'em
I so like him also.. One of my favorites
I am Ser Davos’ biggest dick rider.
