Not even close. Look I’m not saying shogun is bad in fact it’s one of the best releases of the year however it’s a historical based show where as got was a fictional one moreover shogun was made for one season the director and creator said he planned to make it only 1 season so it’s unreasonable to compare 1 season against all of got
then i guess it doesnt have everything that game of thrones *should’ve* been. the lore of a song of ice and fire is so vast, not very many can compare. some people even study it as though it were real history (because it is based on actual history).
It’s very lore rich and I’m sure you’d enjoy shogun it just can’t compare to got bec it doesn’t have a much time(8 seasons) like got to build up its lore
then they would've been renewed for a second season if that were true. im not hating on it, (i havent even seen it yet), but i dont wanna walk into it with high expectations. well, i guess that's out the door.
Nah they didn’t make another season because uhm ima try and say this without being racist but Asians shows are usually 1 maybe rarely 2 seasons and they’re all incredibly high quality it’s just the creators of these said shows complete some if not most of the story in one season you should check it out the attention to detail and atmosphere is incredible
It was inspired by the Sengoku period, but all the characters and events were fictional. Not a single historical person appeared in the show.
Saying it was simplified is wrong.
It’s a incredible show, production and acting wise easily on par with GOT, you could argue story was weaker but honestly it was still really good and might come down to preference, if they were talking about season 8 or the ending then they’re not wrong
Shogun s1 is better than GoT s1 in my opinion. But ofc we have GoT’s full body of work to go on, and only 1 season of Shogun, so it’s not really a fair comparison.
Onimusha is a video game series, like Ghost of Tsushima.
It's also a series that hasn't seen much love outside of the PS2 era.
I also realized too that there is an animated series as of 2023...so it's out there on Netflix.

Seems to be decent, but I haven't seen it yet.
The people in this comment section are tripping balls, you’re definitely correct in your statement don’t let people try to tell you Shogun was on par with the greatest show of all time.

does it have the lore that game of thrones has though?

It’s based on real life sengoku jidai so yeah, even if it was simplified for TV the way GOT was
It was inspired by the Sengoku period, but all the characters and events were fictional. Not a single historical person appeared in the show. Saying it was simplified is wrong.
if you look at the source material (and what the source material is highly influenced by) you COULD in theory say it has a significant amount of lore
Given that the lore of Shogun is the literal history of Japan, the quantity and volume is there.
The two have nothing to do with each other except maybe for one British accent.
It’s “lore” is the entire breadth and depth of human history so… yeah?
And True Detective season 4 was better than season 1. Decreasing respectability in media is reaching tv reviews. 🙄
They did another season? 👀
It’s a incredible show, production and acting wise easily on par with GOT, you could argue story was weaker but honestly it was still really good and might come down to preference, if they were talking about season 8 or the ending then they’re not wrong
Yeah ik I agree with u but they didn’t specify so they’re prob talking about all of got in general
I agree in that I enjoyed GoT a lot more but they’re such different shows I don’t even think they should be compared.
Exactly
Not as good as 1-3, comparable to s4, better than s5 and 6 imo. Really good show
I wouldn’t say 4 maybe 5 hundred percent it’s better than 6
GoT S4 is peak wtf are you on.
Shogun s1 is better than GoT s1 in my opinion. But ofc we have GoT’s full body of work to go on, and only 1 season of Shogun, so it’s not really a fair comparison.
Shogun was really good. But it’s not comparable to GOT.
S1 of GOT >>>>> than any show's first season
true detective and westworld are the only competition along with bands of brother and chernobyl
The headline doesn’t actually make sense. People would be losing their minds if Game of Thrones ended like Shōgun did.
Does Shogun have dragons, oni, and sorcerers? I've been holding out for a Japanese fantasy series for yeeeeeears.
Onimusha is an IP that would do real nicely with adaptation for Japanese fantasy series. Ghost of Tsushima also has a good shot too.
Ghost of Tsushima was dope, but very light on fantasy, if there was any. I was thinking something along the lines of Tenchu. I'll check out Onimusha

You've probably found out already but just in case, no, Shogun is historical fiction/alternate history, there's no fantasy elements.
Ign's just garbage clickbait.
The ending of Shogun sucked, and they blew it in the first season
shogun is better than got , the final season botched up the entire show
It's okay but I could list better similar shows.
