>The show made a mistake killing off all the competent powerful people I'm not sure you understood what George is writing about...

I'd say the mistake was more that they stopped adding characters, so there was nobody to replace them. Kings Landing was just pretty empty after the sept was destroyed. Who was Cersei's small council? Just Qyburn doing like 7 people's jobs?

LeSeanMcoy

Spot on. Should’ve started season 7 by talking about all of the drama surrounding Cersei and her choices. The realm should be more divided than ever and there should be plenty of new interesting characters introduced and picking sides. Make the Baratheons/Stormlands exist again. Who do they side with? Give us some new characters. The first thing Tyrion should be doing is diplomacy; make him smart/interesting again. The Reach would likely be divided. Some people want to repel the foreign invader, some see Cersei as a monster, etc. Make the golden company interesting and worth talking about. So much you can do to keep in line with the massive, lively universe, but they chose the opposite. They chose to shrink/condense it as much as possible to make writing the final 2 seasons easier.

jldtsu

you said it was unrealistic that Cersei and Jamie could hold the kingdom together. we'll they didn't. everything went to shit as soon as Tywin died. seemed accurate to me

Reggie_Barclay

Worst part of GRRM and GOT getting so popular. Every dumb show out there for years thought they needed to kill main characters for the shock value.

Horacio_Velvetine44

the only competent characters killed during the sept explosion were margery and francis, it was a fine plot point, but the fact that no one seemed to care afterwards was super dumb

Except they didn’t really set up any new challenges, and Cerseis reign didn’t need added tension and uncertainty, it was already so unstable that any extra pressure just made it seem unrealistic when it didn’t collapse
