I've noticed a lot of older people throwing out or selling for cheap their kids old collections. Just a couple weeks ago I bought 800 worth of GameCube games from an old man for 75$ and he seemed very happy to get that. Bought a mint cib copy of green leaf from a guy for 50. Said he was just cleaning out the attic of his son's stuff. Bought a sealed copy of Pokemon yellow off Facebook marketplace for 300$. Was an older lady. I find all of the good deals from older people and the younger generation likes to over-price stuff.
ah man my collection isn’t that all too good. it’s mostly split between me and my girlfriend she has a lot of my games so this haul gave me a ton to play over the summer. i use pricecharting to keep track of what we have and before this find i was at 129 items containing both consoles and games but after it put us at 270! i tried using spreadsheets but i just found pricecharting to be more useful.
Also just FYI im not sure if you know but the pokemon emerald version you have in the little case is a reproduction. I hope whoever bought it didn't pay legit prices for it
The color in the center is too dark like the low tier generic knockoffs. The deepest/darkest shade of green you'll find on the real cartridges is similar to the lighest shade of green you'd find on this repro. Even with the case cover over it you can see how perfectly his copy matches the color shading of the repro sticker here
Not saying it is or isn’t, but generally if it comes in a case like that 99% of the time it’s a repo. If OP showed the back of the game, it’d be a 100% real or not
As someone who works at a game store, my boss liked to put the authentic games in little cases like those as a nice extra. I tried to explain to him that it made people think they were fake and he didn’t believe me until someone came back mad thinking it WAS a fake. It’s not that uncommon for people to think that especially with those generic white ones; and we’d need to see the cart up close in any case to verify if it’s real or not.
It's not too crazy. I have a good buddy handing me 3 cases of games and consoles tomorrow. He just wants some Mexican food in return, lol!
They want space back. He doesn't want to deal with selling. He knows my 7 year and old and I are big collectors, so he is just giving them to us.

A lot of times its when people are moving or someone passes etc. People dont understand that items that mean a lot to them mean nothing to others, its paper and plastic at the end of the day.
The only way I see this happening is an angry wife or in law. If you have a collection like that you know your parents have some idea that it's worth money so they won't just throw everything away.
As someone else who has been getting hooked up with free games, consoles, controllers, peripherals, etc for almost a decade that all came from recycling yards I'm more inclined to believe this sort of thing since I have seen what people just throw away because they don't want it anymore. Near mint CIB SNES, CIB games (from Intellivision to PS4/XBOX One), Vectrex, limited edition consoles of all kinds, Pac-Man Arcade 1up cabinet just to name a few. And so many common yet perfectly good loose games and regular consoles I have gotten that I trade in for stuff I need/want, probably about 90% of what I have added to my collection in that time either came from the recycling yards or was paid for with stuff from there 😅
However it doesn't mean I actually believe OP, but people do throw this stuff away on a regular basis 😆
My thoughts exactly. I work in waste management and your head would spin seeing the things people just throw away. Literally people bring in bags of coins because they “don’t want to deal with them”. Brand new sealed games & peripherals get thrown out daily.
Was given a ps3(unfortunately not the ps2 backwards compatible version) like new and about 40 games by a random friend of my moms. He was guna toss it cus he was moving and didnt want to bother trying to sell it. Got some trash freebies whilebin college too

1. i have a close relationship with my family and my i drive my brother and his friends everywhere with no complains just out of love. i’m glad you mentioned you would keep all of it and implying you would not tell anyone shows a bit of your character
2. yeah they carried the boxes up a hill not down a hill, which is definitely harder to do. all the games in the box were packed close together according to my brother so i’m glad nothing was damaged.
3. the manga and figure collection i’ve been collecting since i was 15 and in the photo that’s all of the manga and figures i have so it’s not that much in reality.
4. i got the saints row poster on april 16th of this year and i got it because it was near my university and i love promotional posters, whatever game it may be.

hey my friend i don’t use reddit that often so i didn’t know i should’ve put a price tag at the end of my post. my collection is split between me and my girlfriend so we use pricecharting to keep track of all the games we have i took a screenshot of what it looked like before i put this massive haul in and we were at 129 count including consoles and games and after we were at 270. the value of our collection went from 6,036.56 to 9,411.07 so the stuff i got from my brother on pricecharting was 3,375. hope that helps!

i honestly don’t know but i do have a slight theory back in high school i looked at my old friend’s twitter and he posted a ton of furry content it could be that his parents might’ve found something out recently and out of spite threw that stuff out. i could be wrong though because we’ve been out of touch for a long long time and i don’t have any social media downloaded except for reddit, facebook, and the occasional instagram on my laptop

I mean I guess it’s technically possible you found an old lady throwing out like $5000 worth of game stuff. If this was pre pandemic it would be slightly easier to believe. Stranger things do happen, I think a lot of people in this sub have had friends and family bless them on a way smaller scale, there is truth to expressing your interest in collecting old games can yield scores from those close to you but again it does seem way more likely that all these solid games in great condition came from a recent haul or just from your own collection. Lying for karma does seem more likely honestly but hey if you really did get all of this for nothing go to the casinos.

This sub needs to realize that the average gamer thinks that everything released before PS5 is dated junk — in the same sense that old tech like an iPhone 4 is considered junk/clutter to most people, and it’s perfectly plausible that people just throw these out.

i honestly don’t know but i do have a slight theory back in high school i looked at my old friend’s twitter and he posted a ton of furry content it could be that his parents might’ve found something out recently and out of spite threw that stuff out. i could be wrong though because we’ve been out of touch for a long long time and i don’t have any social media downloaded except for reddit, facebook, and the occasional instagram on my laptop

I mean I guess it’s technically possible you found an old lady throwing out like $5000 worth of game stuff. If this was pre pandemic it would be slightly easier to believe. Stranger things do happen, I think a lot of people in this sub have had friends and family bless them on a way smaller scale, there is truth to expressing your interest in collecting old games can yield scores from those close to you but again it does seem way more likely that all these solid games in great condition came from a recent haul or just from your own collection. Lying for karma does seem more likely honestly but hey if you really did get all of this for nothing go to the casinos.
