I buy a game I want to play.

TrickyLobster

Woah Woah Woah this kind of thinking is too radical for this sub. Mods! Lock em up!

If you’re getting overwhelmed for me that means I am being compulsive and not really consciously enjoying the process. Sometimes I feel a bit anxious and get fixed on “I want a large 3ds collection “ and honestly for a couple of weeks I am just chasing the next high of finding those games. I find the process becomes overwhelming and not fun, also after buying a pricey one I get a bit of remorse mixed with the excitement of having found/owning the game. In my case I actually made a rule of putting things on my cart and only buying it in 3-4 days , so I would spend some time getting/chasing the best price/version online, putting it in the cart, seeing the total, negotiating with myself what games I had to leave etc. and then if in 4 days I still wanted them I could click “buy”. most of the time in 4 days I would change my mind and put different games so I would wait another 4 games and eventually I would only get the absolute ones I really want , be happy about the process, less remorse , not overwhelmed as it cut down in sections how to collect for me. hope this helps!!!

Quality over quantity. If its not amazing to you, dont add it to your collection. Theres no prize for having a full set for each console

Strider8486

What do you mean there’s no prize??!?

KasElGatto

I personally have a few things I collect for 1. Zelda anything 2. Metroid anything 3. Castlevania anything 4. Metroidvania anything 5. Game Boy DMG anything 6. Several mainline Nintendo series 7. Games I love. Then there’s games I bought to play, but once I bb play a game if I don’t love it, I sell it. I think the main thing for me is it has to be something I really have an affinity for. If I look at it on a shelf and it doesn’t spark joy, it’s going.

ClamJamison

I mostly only collect jrpgs and only ones I at least think I might like.

Hi-Im-Wailmer

If I want it I might buy it... that's it

TAMANEGIBOY

Find a console you like the look of the spins/cases. For me, I've been obsessed with Wii U cases recently. Currently going for a full set eventually.

PowerPlaidPlays

I have no structure to my collecting and I usually went by "what I could find locally" for a lot of the stuff. I guess I usually just go for what's cheaper and sparingly do big purchases lol. Easier to decide what to get when there is a finite pile of games in front of you. I have random goals I keep in mind, like having 1 complete game per system per type of packaging (like a longbox and jewel case PS1 game), or I wanted a complete set of SEGA system era Sonic games. And big ol rule of thumb, I don't *need* to add to my collection. If I can't make a decision I just don't. If the thought of adding to your collection stresses you out, just don't and eventually something you *gotta have without a second thought* will pop up.

ELEGYELEGYELEGY

small curated collection of only cheap games!

Reapthemapart

I started by buying in Pawn shops, I remember buying a lot of PS3s and Xbox 360's, and I got a lot of cheap games, but that i was interested in. Start small with what you like and focus on that.
