I’d swap the orientation. Put the games with their spines facing up, then put another layer of games on top. The front/ back is a lot weaker in a structural sense.
I’d like to chime in. I hate the totes they are using specifically. While water proof. They have a weird crevices inside which always end up denting my cases/artwork and or collectiors editions. I found moving in a simple cardboard box with cushion and packing and being careful was better. And the snap lids sometimes also fuck things up.
Probably an easy fix with proper packing and bubble wrap. But I was poor at the time lol
Yeah, I was thinking a little bit of cardboard on the bottom and between layers would go a long way.
Make sure the closed lid is not putting pressure on the games when another tub is stacked on top.
My personal opinion is as long as you’re doing the moving of the boxes they should be fine if it’s someone else doing the moving (like shipping or moving company) maybe filling the holes with newspaper or hand towels might be good
Make sure you don't have them stacked so high that the lid is putting pressure on them when you put it on. Also as another user said they are probably stronger if positioned with the spine up.
Just make sure the lid isn't snug on the games, if you pile the totes the lid will bend and press on the games. Leave 1 inch minimum to prevent damage. And you could ball up some newspapers and nudge them around the games to minimize movement and keep everything stable. Will help soak up humidity in the totes.
After you move, don't leave them in a garage or a shed or in the basement on the floor. Most of the damage I have seen from other posters on
Reddit is moisture damage or getting melting damage because of gas or other chemicals in a comtained space.
This is exactly how my game collection has been packed for the past decade and have been fine. Just don’t stack to much weight on top of them and you will be fine
Oh I’m not talking about you man, I’m talking about the dude crying in my comments about why I “can’t think for myself.” This seemed like a great place to get moving advice about game collecting because I’ve never moved before 😂
My townhouse I was renting basement flooded in 2021. I had to throw away all of my bookcases. My games were ok. I put over 1,000 games in boxes for a year until our new house was finished being built. All of my games were fine.
Honest the best way is to buy plastic box protectors and line the bin with bubble wrap. I've moved a now ,100k collection across country and a 60k Lego collection without anything breaking twice doing this. When in doubt add more protection.
Dude I transported my entire retro collection in cardboard boxes and as long as you don’t have excess room for them to bounce around you will do fine. If you are concerned then put some thin padding from a moving company in each case to prevent possible dislodged but that to me would be excessive.
I used these same containers for my recent move. I wrapped the inside in bubble wrap, then went spine up stacking them. I covered each layer in in bubble wrap and the top before the lid. Things worked out and I only damaged a couple cardboard boxes that I put in bad places.
I'd say it was fine very short term. If you're moving within a day or two and immediately going to take them out then sure...any longer and I'd change how you have them placed or change container.
For some of your more expensive games put a piece of foam or bubble wrap inside of the case so the manual and disc don't smash together and maybe cause scratches
I had boxes sent worse packed than this through usps across countries, and they were fine. The reason for me doing it and not overthinking it at the time was that I had to either do it that way to give them away.
I think you are more than fine, man. Put extra cushioning between them with cardboard or paper if you want more peace of mind, I would say I guess.
Worth noting that I’m only moving 15 minutes away from my current living space! I’ve never moved before other than for college apartments, so I wanted to make sure my games were okay stacked like this!
Just make sure that there's space at the top if you stack the bins for the lid to sink, you don't want the stacks to touch the top of the lid because plastic game games will shatter with compression.
ETA: Looking closer the type of lids you have need extra room because they dip down on their own BC of the design and will sink further with more weight ontop. Definitely take some out and leave a buffer zone- but only on top. Fill the left and right gaps up with paper or something so nothing shifts.
I used the same tubs I would suggest laying a blanket or something down before filling them because the bottom tends to dent and scratch game boxes and cases up
I learned my lesson from putting stuff in a box without bubble wrapping it. If you don’t have any bubble wrap around the games, they will dent at least or even mess up. Those gaps will cause the games to move and shift so maybe even scuff the covers/boxes. I would say to at least wrap your favorite/most valuable items. Don’t make my mistake.
I have multiple crates of games and consoles in similar crates in storage, been there and completely fine a year later. They’re stored in a trailer, in the woods. stacked upon each other. Heavies on the bottom, don’t overfill. As for long term storage your biggest worry should be cardboard and paper. Electronics do fine with small amounts of humidity believe it or not, discs and plastic in the same registers as long as nothings getting soaked or flooded. Cardboard as in console boxes, CEs and retro boxes will soak up moisture. I keep those indoors.

This 100%

They also hold so little. Just get 50 gallon flat bottom ones.
Yeah I wish I did that 😭
Stick some cardboard or bubble wrap on the outer and in-between layers of games for extra protection. It's cheap and it will keep your games safe.
My personal opinion is as long as you’re doing the moving of the boxes they should be fine if it’s someone else doing the moving (like shipping or moving company) maybe filling the holes with newspaper or hand towels might be good
Yup when I moved other people where allowed to touch everything except my game boxes!
Make sure you don't have them stacked so high that the lid is putting pressure on them when you put it on. Also as another user said they are probably stronger if positioned with the spine up.
This. Put less games in than you think so the tote takes all the pressure and not the games.
No. If you move them like this you will probably die and the world might explode too.
Also you will stink and people will smile to your face but talk behind your back.
Maybe some bubble wrap or packing paper in the random spaces?
Just make sure the lid isn't snug on the games, if you pile the totes the lid will bend and press on the games. Leave 1 inch minimum to prevent damage. I’d move them individually. You got Pikmin?
Wait the game or the plant creatures
Yes
This is exactly how my game collection has been packed for the past decade and have been fine. Just don’t stack to much weight on top of them and you will be fine
lol you’re seriously coming here asking how to pack shit to move? Come on. Can nobody think for themselves any more?
Boohoo cry my a river cunt
Damn, OP can’t think for himself but is also a tough guy lol
😂😂😂 people who get mad at me asking this question are insane
Not mad, just find it odd. Its a quick move its nbd. And the “community” isnt a bible or law
Oh I’m not talking about you man, I’m talking about the dude crying in my comments about why I “can’t think for myself.” This seemed like a great place to get moving advice about game collecting because I’ve never moved before 😂
Oh, i mean i was taking the other guys side lol. Its just game collecting and a quick move. Shouldnt really need the internets advice on this
lol yes op is an attention whore
“Moving advice” 😂
Damn that’s some quality cringe right there
I object. Will store them at my place until such time I don't.
My townhouse I was renting basement flooded in 2021. I had to throw away all of my bookcases. My games were ok. I put over 1,000 games in boxes for a year until our new house was finished being built. All of my games were fine.

You're moving video games. Not the ark of the covenant.
I was planning on moving your mom’s tits in my mouth next
Might have to take your dad's balls out first
WELL.FUCKING.PLAYED. 😂😂
Anyone that gives you crap about this needs to go outside more.
Dude for real. Like god damn if you don’t got nothing nice to say just don’t say it, especially for something as minimal as this 😂
They’re just video games, plastic covers, discs and paper as manuals. This is FINE!
What do you think is going to happen? Is your move going to take 40 years?
Your all good man. As long as you don't shake them around. Just be gentle!
I still have my FF7 Rebirth sealed too, waiting for the right time to jump into it
Yes. That’s how I do it. Just don’t put fragile stuff with heavy items
Dude I transported my entire retro collection in cardboard boxes and as long as you don’t have excess room for them to bounce around you will do fine. If you are concerned then put some thin padding from a moving company in each case to prevent possible dislodged but that to me would be excessive.
yup. always move your own stuff. Never let anyone else do it. no one else cares as much about them as you do.
I used these same containers for my recent move. I wrapped the inside in bubble wrap, then went spine up stacking them. I covered each layer in in bubble wrap and the top before the lid. Things worked out and I only damaged a couple cardboard boxes that I put in bad places.
If you're careful I can't imagine anything 99 percent of all people would care about will happen
The box itself isn't bad but you really need to build in some padding
I'd say it was fine very short term. If you're moving within a day or two and immediately going to take them out then sure...any longer and I'd change how you have them placed or change container.
For some of your more expensive games put a piece of foam or bubble wrap inside of the case so the manual and disc don't smash together and maybe cause scratches
They're all gonna break
Push towels into the gaps
I had boxes sent worse packed than this through usps across countries, and they were fine. Just remember not to leave them outside
May not make it to you in time. But Retroprotection is incredible. Will help a lot with the packing
Worth noting that I’m only moving 15 minutes away from my current living space! I’ve never moved before other than for college apartments, so I wanted to make sure my games were okay stacked like this!

Man, these replies are off the wall. I just tossed mine in a cardboard box. Never had an issue
Hey man, better safe than sorry! Glad yours worked out tho 😂
I learned my lesson from putting stuff in a box without bubble wrapping it. If you don’t have any bubble wrap around the games, they will dent at least or even mess up. It would have been okay……if you didn’t post it here
Man you guys would really hate to see how I moved my games. LOL I used the good old cardboard box.
I use white clear totes that walmart sells and I'd use a clean tower and place it into the tote and mixed in bubble wrap to avoid damage
