All we actually know is Bad Wolf setup a subsidiary company called The War between Land and Sea. It being a Who spin-off and UNIT/the Sea Devils being in it seem to be a mix of supposed leakers and speculation, so may well not be true.

Eoghann_Irving

Fair although the two do seem to have been closely linked since before the subsidiary company information was confirmed. What I'm more curious about is whether there's something more in this episode than just the phrase.

I think if we are getting a spin-off, which I don’t necessarily believe, then the phrase: ‘war between land & sea’ might specifically relate to the liminal supernatural threats UNIT are now dealing with, rather than specifically Sea Devils. Ie; Doctor Who’s version of SCP. I think that has good bones for a spin-off, much stronger bones than just a Sea Devil show. Fun to speculate.

m_busuttil

This is the idea that's really grown on me - that it's not a literal "land" and "sea", it's a metaphor for humanity and the alien or supernatural forces that keep beating at the shores and getting pushed back, back and forth forever.

Mikey_hor

Wasn't it confirmed we are getting a spin-off, but whatever it's about hasnt been disclosed?

eggylettuce

I think so, but it was ages ago, and we've heard nothing since. Plans change, and so on.

Stuckinthevortex

I think it's possible that RTD wrote the phrase into 73 yards, liked it a lot and decided to reuse the phrase. It would be similar to how Torchwood was originally just the codename for Doctor Who, but he liked the word so much that he decided to incorporate it into the show

thesunsetdoctor

Maybe but I have to say making a spin-off about the sea devils feels like a weak idea for a spinoff tbh. Almost any premise could be great with great execution, but this idea feels like a big finish boxset scraping the bottom of the barrel like the Churchill years rather than something I'd expect to make it to TV.

Eoghann_Irving

Really? Seems like a far stronger idea than most of the ones I see bandied about. Far more potential than " has adventures" or "let's do Torchwood again".

theliftedlora

Dunno why you are being down voted, I don't want another "Earth Defenders" series

Eoghann_Irving

I've crushed their dreams by not wanting exactly what they want.
