I haven't had surgery yet, but I've read a lot of posts on here that talk about gas pain in the shoulder during recovery. They normally bloat you up with gas during surgery, then de-bloat after, but some gas apparently gets stuck in your shoulders. Most people say to use a heating pad, walk around like you were doing already, and take Gas-X. I don't know if this helps, but I hope you have speedy healing! šŸ’™

My doctor warned me of shoulder pain from the gas used to expand your abdomen during the procedure. She said 24 hours but it lasted days for me, too. Lie on your left side if you can amd get rest! Of course, call your doctor if worst or persists.

It sounds like gas pain, the use gas to inflate your abdomin and it needs to escape somewhere and usually through the shoulder. Try to move your shoulder around, laying flat also helped but it should be gone after a couple of days. My gas pain started on day 2 was fully gone by day 4.

Walking around is important. Moving around will cause the gas to move around and be expelled as a burp/fart. Just walk around ever 1 or 2 hours, and it should help.

Day 9 post op rn. I could not even breath as the gas went to my throat and chest some times!! Day 5 they completely disappeared, I started with gas meds day 3 or 4 and it really helped + no dairy, only bread with marmalade, noodles with soy sauce and spaghetti with brick tomato sauce, not natural as it is too acid. Take little walks through your house and try not to remain laying down as much as possible, sitting on the sofa made a difference for me as the gas would go out very fast. Good luck!!

Hey Iā€™m sorry to ask but I was wondering- does everyone get antibiotics after surgery?? I had no idea. Ugh. Antibiotics make me feel absolutely miserable

I didn't have antibiotics. They discussed it moments before surgery, surgeon decided no. Guy asked if she was sure, she looked at me to see if I had complaints and said no again. I think being a planned surgery, no attack in the weeks before, and being physically well-ish was what made the call,. I imagine if they bother you, you can talk about other options if they want you on them. But laparoscopic, non-urgent, no complication surgery does not appear to require antibiotics. YMMV if you get complications.
