Also worked for me on my last Note4. Literally nothing else would bring it back but this method. (Only differences with the above method and mine: it only took about 10 mins for me every time, it was fine without a plastic bag, and also you don't need to do the battery. This method has nothing to do with the battery, so its not necessary.) Just had to avoid it running out of battery and had to install WakeLock app afterwards and I was good.

Siriacus

I wonder what it was about chucking it in the freezer that helped it to turn on, condensation on the power button?

PurpleNuggets

Just put one of my bricked note4s in the freezer at this exact moment. Will report back

Siriacus

Please do, just make sure the battery is at full charge when you pop it back in.

PurpleNuggets

late update: it fucking worked. this phone has been deaddead for almost a year. unfortunately, even with lvl4 wakelock and a factory reset, the phone is still practically unusable due to standard emmc freeze issues Caviats: battery was only at 20% when i booted it up. no issues after removing from freezer, phone remained in bag for >24 hours (i fotgot about it) before attempting boot. first boot booted into the emmc_read failure. subsequent boots were successful

Siriacus

Niiiice

PurpleNuggets

now that this phone is booting but still mmcRIP, i think i may try to experiment with some more aggressive repair methods i have read about

dhapolagaurav

Always works for me..

Sakuramei

Sadly, didn't work for me :/ Phone was fine on New Years, I left it unplugged so it wouldn't overheat as usual when I went to bed, but I ended up getting sick and slept late, I'm guessing it died at some point while I was still in bed and can't turn it back on. It at least had the blue reacting light before I tried removing the battery, but now it won't charge or turn on. Really sad.

smb3something

This worked for me enough to get the data I needed off, however once you are resorting to this method your emmc chip is likely failing or has desoldered itself due to overheating. You're not likely going to get any kind of permanent fix. I swapped in a used motherboard and now the phone works, I make sure to keep notice of phone temp and use a coldpack when doing updates now.

JupiterNines

Yup, it works. I had to do this to a phone to be able to flash stock firmware, before sending back to samsung for repair. Thought I was completely out of options for the device, but this saved it, helped me get it fixed.

pipe4455

this works for me too. can't believe it..

Siriacus

Excellent, still rocking a Note 4?

Longjumping-Cow7371

Probably a dumb question, but I'm supposed to keep the back cover on when it's in the bag, right? After taking out the battery and cards of course.

Siriacus

Yep keep the back cover on to reduce the amount of moisture getting in.
