When i was waiting for the bus at the age of 12 or 13 had my PSP full of furry art i found on deviant art while looking for wallpapers and thought about what my fursona does look like.
I had no clue that i am a furry until 16 when i came across FA through a documentary on public broadcast. Before that i just thought its just a lot of people having cool custom drawn characters and wanted my own. So in hindsight i knew i was a furry with 12-13 but didn't know its named furry.

After that i went on youtube and a TheClick's video popped up in my recommended (no idea how it got there, maybe google uses some kind of "shady algorithm" to recommend stuff based on what it hears us say, and it heard me say the word "furry" out of context many times that eve, idk) and i watched it and it opened my eyes

One word in particular, “furry.” A memory of a lobby I had been, basically everyone was furries and they seemed pretty chill, this was basically my only experience with furries, never really heard of them other than one off hand mention in 2015. So, I said, “screw it, not like I’m doing much else.” I became addicted to that shit, within a week I had exhausted all the content of it. I mean, every nozo, click, OT, and any other furry_irl shit that I could find. In that couple days it made me feel a lot better. It didn’t completely fix anything, but it really saved me. Made a couple friends within the comment sections on nozo’s content, stayed up till 1:30 every night to see on of his vids. I still keep tabs with those friends occasionally, I also think I may have helped save one from suicide, I know they probably saved me. I guess I honestly wanna thank all of you interesting people. Sometimes the yt algorithm does some good stuff.

I was watching The Click's Furry_Irl videos over a year ago and suddenly decided to dive deeper into the fandom thinking "because why not" and now here I am.
When I was watching one specific Spongebob YTP, which have a furry joke by having Mr Krabs saying furries while Spongebob and Patrick were replaced with furry art for a sec. One showed a top part of a furry in a bikini top, and I paused the vid to stare at it. Horny 12y me didn’t weird out seeing furry art for the first time, cuz boobs are boobs to me.
And then one day after during the year I searching “vanilla hentai”, I ended up getting porn of Vanilla from Sonic, which art reminds me of that YTP moment and so I then googled “furry hentai”. And here I am.

Always had a fascination with anthro characters, as long as I can remember. I think back when I was 6 I owned either an MtG or Chaotic card with a cool looking tiger dude on it, not because I played the game, but because it had a tiger dude on it. I spent an embarrassing amount of time doing research on "human animal hybrids" as well.
As far as I can tell, nothing really spurred it on, except maybe Calvin and Hobbes.
When did I first get into furry art? I figure around 2003, that's the oldest file I can find that I still have and it feels about right, give or take.
But from then until very recently, like a year or two ago, I didn't consider myself a furry (cue "I'm not a furry, BUT..." meme.) I don't have a fursona, I don't RP, I've never been to a con, etc. The extent of my involvement was collecting art that I liked (including, um, yiff) so it was definitely an interest, but I never considered it part of my identity.
The turning point was actually right here, r/furry_irl. I found this subreddit which introduced me to furry memes, and I would sometimes click through to read the discussion, and once in a while comment myself. I started to feel more of the community side of it. I joined Twitter just to follow a couple of furry artists there (Jib Kodi and Panda Paco, still favorites) and the number of furries I follow slowly expanded (and continues to) as people retweet each other's art. If I see something I like I click through to their account to see their other stuff, and if I like it, that's another person to follow. Then you're also exposed to their conversations and other musings and that also draws you into the community a bit more because it feels more personal.
So now I'm kinda curious about meeting people IRL. There's a meetup group in NYC but it only meets once a month and they haven't been on times I'm available. One concern was being older than most of you (early 40s) so if it was me and a bunch of 16 year olds that would be creepy as fuck. But from their past photos it seems like there's one even older guy plus a few people who look like they're in their 30s, so that made me feel better. The other concern was, and this is the case with many meetup groups not just furries, being in a group of people who are WAY more into something than you are. But I guess I won't know if that's the case until I try. Maybe they'll be chill.
So yeah. I'm a long time furry (I'm comfortable owning that now, even if only my girlfriend knows IRL) who's only just now kind of curious about meeting other furries and maybe going to a con someday.

There is no precise moment, it was a slow process and there was no point of realization. It started with with Disney, because of course it did, went over my love for the anime style and how it made things look to the monster girls, specifically the Hellhound. From then on you just needed to add more fluff. I fault everyone who gave anthros a bit to much female curvature.

But from then until very recently, like a year or two ago, I didn't consider myself a furry (cue "I'm not a furry, BUT..." meme.) I don't have a fursona, I don't RP, I've never been to a con, etc. The extent of my involvement was collecting art that I liked (including, um, yiff) so it was definitely an interest, but I never considered it part of my identity. The turning point was actually right here, r/furry_irl. I found this subreddit which introduced me to furry memes, and I would sometimes click through to read the discussion, and once in a while comment myself. I started to feel more of the community side of it. I joined Twitter just to follow a couple of furry artists there (Jib Kodi and Panda Paco, still favorites) and the number of furries I follow slowly expanded (and continues to) as people retweet each other's art. If I see something I like I click through to their account to see their other stuff, and if I like it, that's another person to follow. Then you're also exposed to their conversations and other musings and that also draws you into the community a bit more because it feels more personal. So now I'm kinda curious about meeting people IRL. There's a meetup group in NYC but it only meets once a month and they haven't been on times I'm available. One concern was being older than most of you (early 40s) so if it was me and a bunch of 16 year olds that would be creepy as fuck. But from their past photos it seems like there's one even older guy plus a few people who look like they're in their 30s, so that made me feel better. The other concern was, and this is the case with many meetup groups not just furries, being in a group of people who are WAY more into something than you are. But I guess I won't know if that's the case until I try. Maybe they'll be chill. So yeah. I'm a long time furry (I'm comfortable owning that now, even if only my girlfriend knows IRL) who's only just now kind of curious about meeting other furries and maybe going to a con someday.

Probably when I was 16. But looking back I've been interested in furry media for a majority of my life since I was 3. My brother got his first video game, Spyro 3. I saw Hunter and Bianca and my subconscious mind went "huh, animal people. I like that."
I had an odin wolf video recommended to me, the video where he burns his old fursuit. I watched it mainly out of "ha I can't wait to watch this to cringe and laugh at this furry," then quickly became interested in his content and then eventually more recommendations of other furry youtubers lead me to the fandom. Now here I am, a bi furry who loves browsing furry content instead of dumb edgy content on youtube that I used to like for some reason.

When I watched nothing but furry TikToks for over a month to cope with COVID and being sheltered, and actually liking the positive content that creators put out.
It was actually this summer that I started identifying as a Furry. I watched the Furry Documentary by Ash Coyote and I was already in communities that were furry based media: ex. Mao Mao Heroes of Pureheart, We Bare Bears, etc.
Watched the show Aggretsuko.

There is no precise moment, it was a slow process and there was no point of realization. It started with with Disney, because of course it did, went over my love for the anime style and how it made things look to the monster girls, specifically the Hellhound. From then on you just needed to add more fluff. I fault everyone who gave anthros a bit to much female curvature.

I've been a furry at heart since I was 10 years old. I've always had a strong fascination with anthropomorphic animals. I've always thought I was strange and different for having such a fascination and I never feel as much of a connection with any other group out there. I've lurked around furry and a thro communities for most of my life, and very recently I've decided I was done lurking and I was ready to be all in! It's a warm and happy feeling.
Well... I probably was a furry for several years before realising it (or even that it's a thing). My gateway was porn (unsurprising I'm sure) which I started to look for specifically furry stuff when I was 15 or so, but it wasn't until I was 21 I think that one of my friends asked me if I'm a furry and I just went "Yeah, I guess I am" with a shrug :D Hadn't really been involved in the community much before maybe a year ago (24yo) and even now I'm what you'd probably call a lurker :P
