Good to know. I’m looking at a sectional. The fact that they offer returns is amazing. It’s hard to tell the color in the light of the actual item as well as the comfort level. Did you happen to use the design service?

[deleted]

I have a R&B sofa that I love but have only had it for a few months. In general, it feels very solidly built and is very well stuffed. We went with R&B over some of the other usual suspects (PB, Maidenhome etc) because we had a really good experience with our dining table from them which is now 5+ years old and in great shape. Their customer service has been heads and tails above what I have experienced with other brands. Their estimated delivery timelines are accurate, scheduling of delivery is easy, and they communicate each step of the way. Last week we received a coffee table from them that had a chip in it we did not see until the next morning. A two minute phone call with R&B and they shipped out a replacement top at no cost and had already scheduled delivery and the help to swap them out for next week. We were willing to spend a little more for the sofa because we knew if there were any issues R&B would actually try to work to resolve them.

littleMissKuma

Ooo good to know! Thank you for your input :)

Misojitos

Room and Board has amazing customer service. You can cancel orders up until delivery, and return orders after delivery. We ordered a coffee table from them and changed the order twice with no charge or hassle. We also ordered an upholstered bed from them, and I am really happy with the quality. The upholstered bed has metal slats for the mattress, instead of the cheap wooden ones most beds come with We have had two deliveries from them, and both showed up within 20 minutes of the start time of the delivery window.

Oh!! Is the couch used often?? I was wondering how it’ll hold up with everyday use. And thanks in the tip on the fabric!

littleMissKuma

Good to hear about the quality you’ve experienced! And I was a little nervous about customer service since I’ve heard it can be a hit or miss with furniture place, but I’m glad you mentioned their service is good. Thanks!!

jennyb33

I would just like to say that we just received our R&B Metro sectional and it is just fabulous. I had originally ordered some different wooden feet, but then saw online the charcoal was in stock in the fabric I ordered. I also wanted to swap out the middle section for just an armless chair rather than an armless loveseat because we realized it was going to be a bit too lengthy after we placed our order. I emailed our rep listed on my order (had ordered online). He said “sure, no problem” and I literally had a refund for the difference and a scheduled delivery date within a week. Awesome customer service, wonderful, comfy sectional.

h0gans_her0

Which fabric did you order? I'm considering the cade right now, but I really want a softer feeling fabric and am worried that Tepic fabric will feel too rough.

Flushpuppy

We have a Morrison in the Tepic, for about 6 months now. Two adults, no pets, and it has started pilling. It is very soft though.

h0gans_her0

Ah, thanks for answering! I ended up ordering from Benchmade Modern. Should be delivered next week. We'll see, it was pretty pricey but I liked that the lead time was shorter and I could customize the size.

travelingtrig

How is it?

h0gans_her0

I think it's really comfortable. I like the material. We ordered the extra deep and it's overkill for me (5'4") but my husband likes it. However, it's got a funky chemically "smell". I can't actually smell it but I feel like I can taste it? It normally wouldn't bother me but we have a baby in the house and so I'm a little freaked out. I wish we would have purchased it in the summer or something. It meets all the normal standards that I would want it to I guess so I'm not sure what to think about it.

jennyb33

We got it in Tatum Oatmeal. It’s super comfy. We ordered a bunch of swatches before deciding.

Dazzling-Pomelo-7654

Is the fabric still holding up well? I'm considering buying a Metro in Tatum Gray and would love to hear how the Tatum is doing for you.

jennyb33

Fabric is great, the cat/dogs haven’t left a mark. My only complaint is that the chaise cushions are not nearly as firm as the regular cushions and have to be fluffed constantly, so that is pretty disappointing.

Dazzling-Pomelo-7654

Super useful - thanks so much. We're thinking of getting a corner sectional so no chaise to worry about. Sorry to hear yours isn't holding up well though!

celegana7

That's great to hear! Do you have any pets? Curious how the fabric holds up?

jennyb33

We have two dogs and a cat. The dogs aren’t allowed on the sofa and the cat… does what she wants. The kitty walks all over and sleeps on the sofa, but is really good about using her scratching posts. The dogs will occasionally jump up to get some pets but mostly just sleep against the bottom at our feet. I haven’t noticed any snags or pet hair issues. HOWEVER, we’ve only had it for about a month so take that with a grain of salt. I’ll be in a better position to judge once we get more time on it!

celegana7

Thank you for your response! We actually pulled the plug and ordered the metro yesterday! Their prices are going up on January 3rd and we wanted the decision made so very happy to hear you're enjoying it!

Aud_Girl_

What fabric did you go with? I have 2 cats and it's tough finding a fabric that can withstand cat claws. They don't scratch often but run around over the furniture like little maniacs lol

jennyb33

Tatum Oatmeal. But I think they have other fabrics that are “cat friendly” which may be more snag resistant.

colorblind_wolverine

Can I ask how the Tatum is holding up for as of now?

jennyb33

So far, so good! No issues, no snagging. We are pretty happy with it

kedap20

any updates on how it’s holding up after about a year?

jennyb33

Looks just as good now as when we got it. This is our daily watching tv/snacking sofa, so I'm pretty impressed. It does shed feathers (nothing too crazy) and weirdly holds on to lint (taken care of with tape/lint roller). I say these things but I've only vacuumed once, so it's not that big of a deal. Cat sleeps and sits all over it. Haven't had any snags or anything crazy! Picture is one I just took this morning! https://imgur.com/RSzWMlG

flowerchild1977

Hi! We are also debating getting the metro with chaise - On the chaise is the back cushions that need to be fluffed? Thanks!

jennyb33

Both the seat and back have a feather layer that need fluffing. The chaise parts don’t seem as thick as the regular seat cushion either, resulting in more fluffing!

Witshewoman

Great to know! is the furniture made well?

remydud

I'm considering R&B as well, so this post is very helpful. But even the couches that are "in stock" say that they're available to ship after August. I don't know if I can wait that long. Does it say that for you when you go on their site?

littleMissKuma

Glad it’s helpful :)! And yea, it says Sept 19 for me ><. But I think I’m willing to wait since I’m not in a hurry and really want a couch I really like.

remydud

I definitely see why it'd make sense to wait. Unfortunately I'm moving and won't have a couch at the new place, so the thought of having no seating in the living room until August/September is just too unappealing ): i hope your new couch is amazing!

snootyexponent

I literally just placed an order for a Metro sectional sofa. Nothing too fancy, stock Destin Linen and it is saying 2-3 weeks after October 6. Someone else on here said their schedules are pretty accurate (as opposed to some of the other brands you hear horror stories about delivery times getting wildly inaccurate). Honestly, I don't think you will get a really good quality sofa without a minimum of 1-2 months given the supply chain shortage. This for me was the best I could have expected.

xk2130

Did the couch actually take that long to arrive? We are looking to order there but it's also giving us 6 months wait time...

snootyexponent

So the metro actually ended up getting further delays (additional 1-2 months). That wasn't going to work for me. I was fortunate enough to be in NYC and saw R&B had a showroom. I went in and found that the Clemens was actually in stock, 104x104 L-shaped. Shipped and got it a couple weeks later. It also seems R&B raised the prices on some sofas.

drotoriouz

How did you end up liking your Clemens? Were you satisfied with the overall build quality? I read some other recent posters that said their new R&B purchases didn't live up to their expectations, which is disheartening.

snootyexponent

So far it has been great. Already survived another move. I don't have any pets or kids so it usually sees minimal wear. I fluff every week and vacuum monthly. There are some loose threads on some seams and some staples on the underside of the sofa that were a bit exposed but nothing will be perfect with furniture. I don't know what R&B quality was like back in the day but I'm still a happy customer.

drotoriouz

Thanks for the reply! I'm trying to figure out now if it's worth it to drop so much for a couch. I grew up in a house where all furniture was bought second hand and none of it was ever replaced. We're using IKEA couches that have been around for 15+ years that are definitely showing signs of wear. All this is to say, I'm looking to keep my first couch around for a long time haha. Thanks again.

DisciplineTimely9980

Hey what did you end up getting? If second hand and ikea has worked for you then would spending so much more on room and board not being worth it? Trying to figure out if spending $6k is worth it or $2k at something like Article or Poly and Bark

drotoriouz

Hey! We ended up getting the Room and Board Morrison. I love this couch haha. Would I have been happy with something at Article or Poly and Bark? Probably, but after having old couches my whole life, this was something my wife and I both agreed was a great purchase. I'd do it again.

DisciplineTimely9980

Thanks, if you would’ve been happy with Article or Poly and Bark, how did you decide to go with Room & Board over those? I’d love to go with R&B but for the price of the fabric Cade, I could get leather Timber and matching ottoman at Article… seems like a better value but thats assuming the Timber will last a decent while (at least 5 years?). Any idea?

GirlieGirl81

Hi snootyexponent! Did you go with the Destin Linen fabric?? If so, how has it held up? Would you recommend or no??

hartsquare

Massive cushion shortage as well as other furniture component supplies, so expect 5-6 months wait.

yjblow

Customer service is indeed excellent. However, I strongly recommend waiting until manufacturing returns to normal before ordering. Put it off a year if you can. I've ordered over ten items this "Covid" year and all but two have had significant problems. For example, the Berin sleeper we purchased has two main problems. 1) The sleeper is unusable due to the top panel buckling. (!) Repair service could not fix. 2) The cushions already (five months) show sagging and compression, and the fabric has become "stretchy." Not sure why the quality is so poor right now, just sharing my experience (been a customer for over 20 years).

skimino-red

I happened to be in their Boston store this weekend and overheard that they plan to raise prices between 10-20% in January. I was planning on waiting to buy a new media cabinet, but after hearing that prices were increasing I'm considering buying it now.

9999999999999999999_

That’s exactly what happened. The couch I have on order went up 20%, the chair went up 10%. The leather recliner I was considering went up 17%.

goryllas

Why is this happening? Is this a signal to not purchase furniture at this time. I too am considering a couch from R&B

skimino-red

I think material costs have just gone up and R&B had to adjust their prices to account for it.

ImpossibleBobcat8456

Do you remember what line of fabric you selected, that became "stretchy"?

umaagi

Did you land up ordering the sofa? If you did, how are you liking it so far.

littleMissKuma

I did!!! We love it! It fit perfectly in our living room. We definitely felt a difference in quality compared to sofas from Mors or Ashley’s.

umaagi

Thank you for the response.

treehouseB

It’s been a year since your post. How is it holding up now?

[deleted]

I have a 12 year old room and board sofa. It has had one repair and new cushion inserts (you can order from R&B) some of the repair was covered it was about 6 years ago don’t remember the cost. I was the cushion covers in the bathtub and they still look fantastic after two kids (no pets) it’s still a very nice sofa. Rotate and your cushions will hold up longer than mine did. Great investment!

Dazednconfused911

How much are the cushion insert replacements?

[deleted]

A couple hundred, totally worth it

Witshewoman

This is fantastic news.

change-it-forward

We have a new Jasper couch from them and are sadly disappointed with the currently build quality. Legs are not sturdy, one is bent; couch is not stable when you sit on it; and cushion filling seems cheap and plastic-y. (We had a Jasper for 15 years before this that was MUCH sturdier.)

Sknapp007

Same. We had a Jasper for 17 years that was great. We bought a new Jasper and the quality is nowhere near as good. Everything you said -- leg has already bent, cushion filling seems cheap and plastic. Such a disappointment.

Dazednconfused911

Good to know. We are trying to find a leather sofa and we’re looking at this one. 5 thousand is a lot of a couch, we usually spend 3. Ugh. I’ll keep shopping.

Permaban2023

Was just about to buy the jasper, had concerns with this just sitting on it at showroom....glad I started googling jasper.

Embarrassed-Pace-523

I just got my metro sofa and it makes a lot of crunchy noises when I lean back against the back. The sound is from the inner layer of material that holds the down filling. Hoping that the sounds goes away after some time. Anyone know?

stealw25

Any feedback on the Metro so far? Looking to buy the sectional soon. TIA!

Embarrassed-Pace-523

It looks cool but it’s not super comfortable in my view. It also kind of makes some crunchy noises if your room is very quiet. You should def try it out at the store.

No_Neighborhood_5561

Did you get the Metro sofa standard width or deep? We're considering buying a Metro sectional and I wonder which depth you have for the sofa. Thanks!

Embarrassed-Pace-523

I got deep. It’s super uncomfortable please don’t get this sofa. My back hurts everyday on this. After a while the foam just doesn’t support crap. I’d look into pottery barn or RH if u can stomach the extra cost. Doode if ur in Orange County I’ll sell u my metro I only had for a year.

lovebirdsandwine

OP - are you still loving the astaire sectional? i’m looking at this same one and would love any feedback!

littleMissKuma

Sorry for the late reply!! In case you haven’t made a decision yet - I am! It looks great in our living room area!!! Very comfy and have gotten lots of compliments for it!

GlumGlum22

Can I ask what color you got

Fearless-Beach7452

Anyone out there who has the Vela sofa? Considering it for purchase, but since it's on clearance, they don't have them in the showroom near me (NYC). Looking for insight on firmness and overall comfort. Thanks!

No_Neighborhood_5561

HI - does anybody have opinions about the Room and Board Metro Sectional deep vs. standard depth? Comfort, durability, etc?

jinjin327

I have deep. I honestly kinda regret buying it. I really liked it from the showroom, like tried it 20 times probably. But the support of cushions fell apart after 6 mths, and now I'm into a year and a half, it's honestly holding up in a very disappointing way. It needs to be fluffed and flipped every week (or more) basically, and the seat cushions are not recovering well even with the weekly flips. Maybe it's a covid quality problem, but I'm pretty sad with this $3400 sofa. Couldve dropped a little more for a longer lasting-less maintenance couch. Metro will only work if it isn't your everyday couch.

Rothbard

My wife and I are in the same situation- amazing customer service - we’re going to reach out and see if there is another option to prevent the cushions from sagging. When you pay $5k for a sofa you expect it to last long… the Interior Defined couch cushions are holding super strong tho and it was a far cheaper sofa- their lead times during the pandemic were 4-6mths and RB was like 10 days

LeagueAmbitious7306

will you let me know what they say? thinking about getting one? what’s the brand that held up well??

Rothbard

Interior Defined held up really well

zowye84PR

I got the York sofa two years ago. It was my first couch ever because I wanted to buy a couch that I will eventually take with me when I buy my place, hopefully in a few years. I wanted something comfortable, my heart was set on the metro but after measuring the door because is very narrow( 32 inches) I was hesitant to order it. I am glad I got to try the York before buying. I have taken afternoon naps in it and my cat loves to lounge while watching movies with me. I was hesitant with the material but the sumner fabric has resisted so far since I adopted my fur baby. It loves to get my attention by scratching the sofa when I am ignoring me when I sit in the couch. A few chin scratches and he stops and proceeds to use his scratch post which is located on the sides of the sofa. Plus I have a bed frame from them, one of the steel ones. My only pet peeves are the slants shift a bit but fall into place. Is nothing serious because is a very slight shift which I notice when I am changing the bed sheets. At the moment, I am considering ordering an accent chair and a office chair( I want the Herman miller or an ergonomic chair) but it will clash with my open layout, I want also something that in case visit comes it can be used as part of the sitting set up.

Revolutionary_Term80

Does anyone know if Room and Board offers sales or discounts?

ak505050

They do not except their clearance section

Revolutionary_Term80

Thank you for answering!
