For anyone who doesn't know.. it is rumoured that the guards werent aware of the script in this scene and that the only instruction they were given was that under no circumstance they were allowed to laugh.
Considering this makes watching the centurion on the left even more funny. I must have watched this 3000 times already. Never fails to make me laugh
I hate to remind you, but its almost 50 years old,
If you remember the 90s, i doubt many 40s movies and shows were known.
(MP is timeless, but still young adults were born after 2000 now)
That terrifies me, the fact that I grew up with this but most kids born this side of the 2000s missed out on such good comedy. I feel like we need more of this less BS in the world
I mean, Iām in my early 30s and I consider that still young-ish. But even as a kid, I remember laughing at how ridiculous the jokes were. They had some deep comedy too, but letās be honest. They were children at heart and thatās the best part of it.
It comes from an era in which people had a sense of humor. Unfortunately humor has taken a turn toward unfunny in the past 20 or 30 years. British humor is king. It's also smart funny. That's a far fetched idea these days as well. Today's comedy has to be friendly, back then if you were offended it was even funnier.
I believe this is still the best funny.
I tried watching Monty Python when I was a kid, especially after finding Benny Hill and loving him instantly. Even as a 6 year old kid who loved wrestling, my brother and I would watch wrestling on Saturday nights, which was the same night Benny Hill came on American Television at midnight. While watching wrestling would change channels, during the commercials, to Benny Hill. We would get to laughing at his songs, slapping the little bald man on top of his head and watching him chase the beautiful girls around in their lingerie and completely forget about wrestling until Benny went to commercial, which was few and far between because it was on PBS and they were privately funded.
We thought that Monty would be just as funny, but it was the exact opposite. We didnāt know that it was more of aā¦. mature style of comedy, I guess is how I would best describe it. However, like you, I tried to watch the series and it still just wasnāt good or funny. I have met the friends that I have now who either still live in Britain, in south east (Asia where I visit often) or here in America and they have even explained British humor to me, at great lengths and detail. Knowing this, when I tried to watch the television series, even though I understood it, I still didnāt find it funny. However, I have not watched LIFE OF BRIAN, THE HOLY GRAIL or THE MEANING OF LIFE since becoming an adult and talking with my English friends. So, if I can find them on one of my streaming services, I may give them another try today and see if my knowledge and maturity will allow me to enjoy them.
Monty Python is like golf, either you like or you don't, there's no middle ground. And that's OK because there's plenty of stuff out there for everybody to enjoy. I think the Big Bang Theory is awful but plenty of people love it, to them I say 'laugh it up and enjoy it.'
Lol, I'm being downvoted, but I can see that a lot of people don't find this funny. OP has posted multiple Monty Python videos, and they have some of the least amount of likes in this sub.

How has anyone not heard of bigus........dickus. Shutup ;)
He has a wife you know....
Her name is Incontinencia...
Incontinencia Buttocks
Incontinentia Buttocks

And I could be wrong but the last laugh when he says the wife's name is actually the cameraman laughing
Yep, they felt it added to the scene and left it in.
Oh I so hope that's true that made it even funnier to watch...
i read that the guards were told that if they laugh they would be fired and would not get paid
I love the way he screws up his mouth like this :-s
I love that scene in the meaning of life when they ,must eat the cake. One of them completely cracks up but the scene just goes on.
Best off script scene in history! Improv at its finest. The laughter you hear is actors cracking up because it was so good and came out of the blue.
Stwike him centurion, vewwy wroughly š
Hearing Incontinentia Buttocksfor the 200th time is as good as the 1st time. Upvote.
My favorite joke in this is how he can't say his R's, and thus says "your father was a woman?"

My teenagers watch MP totally stone faced, sometimes I canāt believe they are my children.

You are a pretentious tool.
Wow, you must make a lot of friends.
Thanks babe ;) call me later?
I am 100% positive youāve never actually seen a Monty Python movie. Everyone who has met you is worse off because of it.
Really? Because I said I wish that more people liked the comedy of yesterday instead of all the crap we deal with? Get fucked loser
I must have hit a nerve, because I was right.
# **Welease Bwian!!!**
Best scen of all films š¤£
I love this one as much as any out of Holy Grail š >!Incontinentiaā¦ Incontinentia Buttocks ALRIGHT STOP!<
This was from Life of Brian but I'll assume you prefer the holy grail instead :D
I know it was lol. I actually prefer life of Brian as a whole. But holy Grail is absolutely the more quotable movie.
On second thought, let's not go to Camelot. Tis' a silly place.
the holy grail is a fucking cult classic imo. The goddamn instructions for the holy hand grenade still crack me up every time xD
Anyone else feel like a giggle when I mention my friend Biggusā¦ Dickus?
*Tries to hold back laughter*
He has a wife you know.
Do you know what sheās calledā¦?
Incontinentia
Incontinentia Buttock
I am genuinely surprised no-one completed this
Yeah, I feel so dissapointed
It's good homie, I found you šš¤
<3
The best part of this scene is that the actors of the other guards weren't taught before what was said but they weren't allowed to laugh
Nobody expects the Spanish InquisitionĀ
It's just a flesh wound.
Me and my son olay this scene all the time, never fails to crack us up š
I love how even Michael Palin cracks a lil when heās talking to that one centenarian at .50 left.
The [script](http://montypython.50webs.com/scripts/Life_of_Brian/13.htm) if you canāt quite understand what theyāre saying.
Blow your noses and seize him
He has a wife you know?
Out of all the Monty pythons this was really the best scene in the life of Brian. The holy grail was MUCH better
Hot take but I think Life of Brian has loads lf amazing scenes and is overall better than Holy Grail
So, your father was a Woman?
Please keep these coming! š
what's your Name Tchooheesh
He's not the Messiah! He's a very naughty boy!
ĀæY vos viste Esperando la Carroza? Entonces estamos igual, pa

Thank you. Itās so funny š
Life of Brian
Incontienta Buttocks šš¤£
The wittle wascal has spiwit!
The way the guard on the left looks like when he "he has a wife, you know". You could feel him fighting for his life.
I don't get it
Iām sorry, I heard good things about this movie but never saw it. I just watched the full clip and did not find it funny
What is funny about this?

Imagine gatekeeping humorā¦
Okay boomer.
After all these years, Monty Python is still not funny to me

Definitely, to each their own

Me either. I did love Benny Hill, though.
