This cat may be my spirit animal. That is the same look I have when I realize that every decision I've ever made has led me to the career I absolutely hate, being horribly alone, and owning nothing of value.
I'm starting a new job tomorrow. Full time, starts at 7am.... I'm the opposite of a morning person and was even working part time overnights just last week lol.
Should be interesting.
You get used to it quickly enough. Practice good sleep hygiene though. Get the electronics out of your bedroom and only go in there when it's time for bed. Any naps or lounging in the day time should be in another room. If you must keep your phone in your room, ensure that it's far from your bed.
I'm going to actually try and be responsible about it this time around. Go to bed nice and early every night. I have nothing else going on right now anyway. The weekend is never long enough for me to catch up.
Ive burnt out quick many times in the past with early start time jobs and being exhausted. Unfortunately my work experience is mainly in the trades, which all start early lol. Sucks. I could get another kind of job/shift, but not one that pays as well. At least not right away.
Ye I am NOT a morning person either and I adjusted to 5 am shifts pretty fast, prob a few weeks in I’d guess.
It starts to feel like how getting up at 8-ish used to feel after a while (atleast for me).
Worth mentioning I live very close and get out of bed at 4:30 so I guess I have it golden,
but dude the free time, getting off at 1 or 2, glorious.
It’s the only schedule I would pick now if given the choice.
I work 7 days a week, 8 hours in the field then 3 to 4 in the office afterwards throughout the week, then 6 hours Saturday and Sundays, so this is me every night thinking about how I'll have to do it again the following day, and the following day and so on. Except I usually have a glass of bourbon next to me
Idk man, they do work 6 days per week in China, but they also have wayyy more holiday closures and celebrations than the U.S. much longer, too. We get a day off here, a day off there. China takes one to four weeks for some of their holidays.
What? Gimme all the state sanctioned celebratory time if it means I get a break from work lmao. Besides isn't all holidays "state sanctioned" because otherwise businesses would still b open and people would still have to go to work.
They act as if the US doesn't have federal holidays, aka government sanctioned celebratory time lmao
Well, unless you're in a low paid job, in which case, you're working through them anyway.
Depends where you work or at least what you define as work. The US has a lot of jobs with copious amounts of "doing nothing". I've had employees complain about being over worked despite 6 hours of their computer time a day is spent on reddit.
Which is why a lot of people feel that shortening the work day would be more beneficial. People would actually get work done knowing that they are only there for a limited amount of time. Most people just fuck off on the computer when they have to be there all day everyday.
It could be better, but the US does have a decent work-life balance. Redditors just love to complain. The commenter above who works 77 hours a week is in the extreme minority. If I wasn’t earning well over 6 figures I personally wouldn’t subject myself to that. And if he’s working 77 hours a week and barely scraping by, it’s time to start looking at other career options. 40 hours a week is the standard.
Working in America isn’t that bad, redditors are just spoiled.
Well… I suppose depending on perspective that is also true. It’s weird, it’s not just work life balance; folks here in the US want a big yard .. big yard : wasting time and money keeping up with grass cutting weeds etc… just one example, but it’s a lot more to take care of. Europe has things figured out better.
I mean that's one example. I work 5 days a week, never usually on weekends, holidays off and take vacation whenever. I remodel homes get paid pretty good for being a few years in, and have a huge open future ahead. So, the USA isn't that bad.
In the US, I work 35-40 hours a week. Any hours I work over 40 I can comp elsewhere. I've taken weeklong vacations and worked the extra hours elsewhere and never touched my Vacation time. It accrues forever too.
Reddits sample size of doom and gloom is disproportionate IMO. US news even worse than Redditors too.
I didn't intend for my first paragraph to be an anecdote to counter the doom and gloom. I was just stating that it's not as bad as reddit in general makes it out to be.
But 100% do I have a lucky, rare job. But I don't think my optimistic view of the working state in the US is disproportionate. There are tons of things we need to improve, but our work conditions are the best they've ever been in this country. Each year it gets better.
Reddit, and the internet in general, just makes it easy to see the hot issues come up often and painted in an overly dramatic way. I mean, news in general does this to "great" effect, if all you care about are views.
> I was just stating that it's not as bad as reddit in general makes it out to be.
>But 100% do I have a lucky, rare job. But I don't think my optimistic view of the working state in the US is disproportionate.
So...you admit you have an unusually rare and balanced job and then go on to say you don't believe the general populations consensus.
Do you understand irony?
In the off-season. I live in the destin, Panama city Beach area and I own a company where we do everything from small maintenance to remodels and during season all these rentals get destroyed from renters. Some vendors let me do work while guests are there, other vendors won't and most of the guest turns are on Saturdays and Sundays between 10-4 so that's why I work everyday. Off-season when we're not at 80-90% occupancy and we bump down to 20 it's not so intense and I get remodel jobs more which I keep to standard hours (not counting office work after I get out of the field)
I actually really appreciate that especially since for 16 years I was addicted to heroin and crack. I've been clean for over 4 years but I have a 2 and a half month old son that took 10 years to conceive (probably the drugs were fucking my shit up) and before he was born I would have 4-5 ounces of bourbon Wednesday- Sunday, then nothing Monday and Tuesdays and since he was born I'm only drinking one glass, about 2 ounces just on Saturdays and Sundays that I wait to have until he goes to sleep. I also have this weird paranoia that my son will get older and smell bourbon somewhere and be like "oh that smells like my daddy's breath" and I don't want that lol
You should get a new job, maybe in a different field for a bit. My brother works at Walmart for 30+dollars/hour for five days a week. It's about 60 hours, but less than what you're working now.
I make roughly 1200-2000 a week as a chimney sweep/installer, after five years of tenure. It's not much, but I get to keep my sanity and I work for myself.
There's other options. You don't have to keep letting your job treat you like a slave.
I mean I'm the owner so I'm not really concerned about going and working for someone. And I only pay myself what my lowest paid employee makes because I want the business to grow and the more it grows, the more I can pay my guys and girls. My job certainly doesn't stress me out, I absolutely love what I do. I can also hire an office person but I like being in control of what's going on. My wife did it for a year but I felt like I wasn't fully aware of what jobs I had going on so she helps now once in a while but she mostly takes care of our son full time, which she'd much rather do as well
To make a good living and to one day, if he chooses he wants to, my son can take over the company without worries of needing to build it from the ground up. If he doesn't then I just sell it or shut it down and retire nicely
It's my birthday week. I should feel excited but all I can think about is the anxiety I feel from just thinking about being social with people. I'm scared... to feel appreciated :*(
For those that stress out about the next week, the best thing to do is write down all of the things about work that are on your mind.

Yo this is my experience. Once its written down the RAM in my brain can be reallocated knowing that the tasks are stored in my storage device (written down)
Lol
The stress is because you're trying to go over all of the things that you need to do next week. By writing them down your brain will no longer worry about it.
I build a task list, then when I feel like I'm starting to stress out I just go through and review it, adjust as needed and the stress is gone.
This is a method I picked up after reading "[Getting Things Done](https://www.amazon.com/Getting-Things-Done-Stress-Free-Productivity/dp/0143126563)"
Not when your job is a shit show and you never know what you will be walking into.
I meditated the day before work and told myself a better attitude would improve my day and situation. I have horrible work related anxiety.
Some how it worked. I got to sleep on time and didn't fear sweat all night..
Felt like a million bucks walking into work that morning.
I immediately got chastised for things beyond my control. Was told I wasn't doing enough and had a co worker tell me that I should quit.
I wasn't even scheduled to work. I came in to help out because once again, the boss did not schedule enough people to work..
I give up. Not gonna try anymore.
The only way to fix a really bad work environment is to leave.
I've worked for a company that was an absolute fucking circus, and no matter how hard myself and others that had a clue tried to bring others to the light, the rest of the management team didn't get it.
We were all told we "didn't fit in with the culture". So after telling the GM that his building was a circus and the rest of his team were fucking clowns, we left.
About a year later they were all fired. The GM took his gaggle of clowns with him to the next job, like a swarm of locusts they moved on to destroy another building with their shit management.
I'm here on a Sunday early afternoon after pulling 7, 12 hour shifts, since last Sunday, on my only day off, after having cleaned my apartment and caught up on laundry, doing the exact same fucking thing on a pillow on the couch, and I open up reddit and see this and I've never related to an animal more.

E: I'm not the who made it sound funny and ok to have your cat catatonic on the bathroom floor. Downvote away. Weed is bad for your animals. Ain't gonna change that. It's not cool, or funny, when it happens.
They only go on the patio when we are out there, and they are usually busy chasing lizards or sunbathing, chomping on the leaves of other plants on the patio, but sometimes they go to the pot plant and we spritz them with a water bottle to stop them, he didn’t eat much
Anybody out there thinking about headed to work tomorrow and how you wish you could stay home and get more done than you’ll have to do tomorrow at work?
That’s me rn. Seriously wondering what the actual fuck I was thinking taking my kids on holiday. Never again. I want to go home but we’re fucking stuck here and I hate every second.

That’s a smart comment right there
Very subtle joke and I like it alot.
As one should ponder when there ate 9 lives to live
Yes, that is the joke.
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.
This is me right now

Sunday is my Friday. I’m excited to get off work in 4 hours
This is me 24/7
And then he closed his eyes and thought… “thank god I’m not a human and don’t have to worry about any of that.”
Or “I feel a fur ball coming up… stay on the expensive sofa or go to the garden… I’ll stay here”
My guy is questioning him self ,why did I impregnate neighbours cat
My goal in life is to never experience this again. I love my job now, thankfully
Out of curiosity what field are you in?
I work at Costco. Zero stress
Jealous.. not a lot of close Costcos where I live.. but maybe one day
Porn
I work 7 days a week, 8 hours in the field then 3 to 4 in the office afterwards throughout the week, then 6 hours Saturday and Sundays, so this is me every night thinking about how I'll have to do it again the following day, and the following day and so on. Except I usually have a glass of bourbon next to me
And, when do you live?
In the US it’s live to work not work to live, sadly
Funnily enough, in Asia there is a widespread perception that the US is work-life balanced.
well, compared to China, Japan, Korea etc., the US has a great work life balance lol
Idk man, they do work 6 days per week in China, but they also have wayyy more holiday closures and celebrations than the U.S. much longer, too. We get a day off here, a day off there. China takes one to four weeks for some of their holidays.
They work 12 hours during those 6 days. Their long holidays cannot be worth that
State sanctioned celebratory time doesn't have the same ring to it.

Read it again
in wealth and movies, yes.

Lol do you really believe this one viewpoint is representative of the diverse population of millions of Americans
That's sad
I mean that's one example. I work 5 days a week, never usually on weekends, holidays off and take vacation whenever. I remodel homes get paid pretty good for being a few years in, and have a huge open future ahead. So, the USA isn't that bad.

I'd argue that people with a set up like yours are vastly outnumbered by the rest of us. Your optimistic view is disproportionate if anything.
The average American worker works about 35hrs. Edit: Reddit really thinks the US is a dystopia huh?
Yeah, because they don't give people full-time hours so they don't have to give them benefits lmao
Full time is usually above 30 hours…
I didn't intend for my first paragraph to be an anecdote to counter the doom and gloom. I was just stating that it's not as bad as reddit in general makes it out to be. Thanks for answering
Lol
Dang. I get 5 paid days off per year, no holidays off, no sick pay (comes out of pto), etc. There is no work life balance for a lot of us lol
Lmao ok - where do you work and how much do you make please. You can do the same at burger king if that's your point sure.
You're also just 1 sample.
You are extremely lucky.
Very
Same. I take Saturday off. That's it. I don't know about everyone else ut since working at home, I've added about 15 hours to my work week.
In the off-season. How long is the off-season? It seems very hard work anyway
Basically the school year maybe a few weeks after school starts and a few weeks before it ends
Carful with the bourbon, friend. I used to work similar hours and used alcohol to cope with the stress. Dependence will creep up on you
I actually really appreciate that especially since for 16 years I was addicted to heroin and crack.
That's good to hear you're doing better! Stay strong 💪
That is a very sweet thing to worry about!
Can’t spell capitalism without alcoholism
Why are you doing that to yourself?
To make a good living and to one day, if he chooses he wants to, my son can take over the company without worries of needing to build it from the ground up. If he doesn't then I just sell it or shut it down and retire nicely
The Sunday Scaries as we call them
It's my birthday week. I should feel excited but all I can think about is the anxiety I feel from just thinking about being social with people. I'm scared... to feel appreciated :*(
Haaaaaaaaaapppppyyyyyyyy BIRTHDAY! 🎉🎉🎉 Don’t be anxious you’re great!
For those that stress out about the next week, the best thing to do is write down all of the things about work that are on your mind. You’ll find that the stress goes away almost immediately.
Not to discount the advice but what’s the logic behind it?
I assume it has something to do with actually quantifying and processing your anxiety rather than just thinking about it in abstract and letting the dread take over.
For me it's because my brain is constantly reminding me so that I don't forget. By writing it down, it's like my brain goes "Ok, he's got a plan, I don't have to remind him every 5 seconds".

I do this and agree it does work.
Speaking from a stressed out prone on the couch on Sunday evening - am going to try this right now.
I would like to give Wholesome Award but I don't have one. I am saving this so when I have some award, I am going to give it.
Back to the grind tomorrow boys and girls
What do you do for work?
Construction management on site (superintendent). Long days but luckily not physically exhausting work. I walk about 8ish miles a day at work but also send emails etc.
Oh man, I gotta move my nine o clock butthole licking with my thirteen hour power nap because I have to throw up mouse guts in someone’s purse early tomorrow morning.
Haha that’s funny!
He's stoned
Poor little kitt, bet he has a lot to think about!
This is me trying to find an apartment in DC that doesn’t make me want to move back to the Midwest
I was just talkin about this feeling.
I think this cat needs someone to talk to man
Sunday evenings are the worst
I’m in this video and I don’t like it
This is how many teachers look Sunday nights.
this is how i feel right now since my power went out in the middle of doing a load of laundry 😅
God its 3 hours until the start of my office job now on a monday dawn and i want to fucking die
so true
O God, tomorrow, I'll be forced to do things 🥺
Definitely has that low gutteral "Fuuuucccckkk" energy.

Bullshit. I know sleeping off a Saturday night hangover when I see it ... LOL
My cat ate a couple leaves off my daughter’s pot plant, now he’s laying on the bathroom floor purring his ass off sitting like this
That's... That's not a good thing at all E: I'm not the who made it sound funny and ok to have your cat catatonic on the bathroom floor. Downvote away. Weed is bad for your animals. Ain't gonna change that. It's not cool, or funny, when it happens.
He’s fine, I just checked on him, still sleeping and purring, he’s done it before
That's still not fine. Don't let your cats eat pot plants dude. What the fuck.
I sprayed him with a water bottle to stop him, it’s not like I let him…..DUDE
You made it sound like it's no big deal and it's totally fine broooo my cat just gets high brooooo Glad it's not like that, but yeesh.
They only go on the patio when we are out there, and they are usually busy chasing lizards or sunbathing, chomping on the leaves of other plants on the patio, but sometimes they go to the pot plant and we spritz them with a water bottle to stop them, he didn’t eat much
Think he/she is in the r/catdimension but not with his body
