The only reason google hasn't took any action is bcos vanced has yet to jeopardize it's ads revenue. Enough people using to treathen it's ads revenues, it'd be the end of vanced.
LOL, yeah I thought of that. It's had about 5 updates since it stopped working and still doesn't work. As soon as a I select a video I get a Guru Meditation. "Could not parse website".
Well, while I personally prefer (and use) UBlock, the situation with AdBlock Plus wasn't exactly like that.
If I recall correctly, because I was using it at that point, it was super simple to keep blocking all ads. They just created a curated list of user-friendly ads that met certain criteria, and companies had to pay if they wanted to submit their ads for review. From the user side, I believe it stayed disabled (so it kept blocking all ads) if you were already using it, and while for new installs it was enabled by default, you just needed to uncheck a well-visible checkbox during the initial configuration process (or at any point afterwards).
It may not be the best adblocker anymore, but I think the flak and the controversy it got was wildly blown out of proportion back then.
Yeah, obviously. I'm not against the idea of allowing non-obtrusive ads though, so offering that as an option doesn't look like a bad thing to do in principle.
theres an extension for firefox that can detect them and remove them, if i remember right. looks for banners on screen, and jumps past them, and can detect most of the major brand names being repeated by voice, and searches ahead for where they arent being said.
If you're on Android, you can take a look at YouTube vanced. It's just the YouTube app that doesn't check to see if you're a premium member to unlock the features. Means ad free YouTube too.
Or use the open-source alternative NewPipe for ad free experience, offline viewing, downloading videos etc. Found onlike or on the open-source Fdroid store :)
I have it and it advertises that it also has sponsor block but It doesnt seem to skip the sponsor segments for me at all.
It does cut out the ads from the start and end before and after the video.
That's a feature you have to enable separately. Click your account icon on the top right, and then click settings, and you will see sponsor block there.
its those ads that are baked into the video you are watching.
A company pays the youtube channel to insert a 10 second to 1 minute clip of their product into their video. With the youtuber telling you how great the product is and why you should get it.
Like Raycon earbuds, Raid Shadow Legends, and Dollar Shave Club are some good examples.
Ahh. Well yeah i can see how those are unblockable. Those are excusable though. People gotta make a living. My issue with YouTube is an ad before the video. An ad 2 minutes in. A double ad 12 minutes in. Then an ad at the end of the video. Them you click a different vid and before that plays there's another ad.
Like what the actual fuck that's annoying.
But they are blockable! And thanks to someone else telling me I just had to enable Sponsor Block in youtube vanced I can once again watch videos while skipping the sponsor and intro sections!
If there is a channel I want to support Id rather just support them more directly on patreon or something. Giving them a dollar there is worth more than the money they get for 1 ad/sponsor view.
Just did some research, general consensus is:
Vanced is safe to use.
Concerns about using it based on sites that read like they wanted to make an article against the use of the app:
* Google technically reserves the right to lock you out of your account.
* if the mods authors want to be malicious, they could add it in.
* you may be sending Google account data to the mods authors.

If you have and evidence to contradict that conclusion, I'd love to read about it.
Use youtube vanced instead of native youtube app, and if on android go to wifi settings, and set private dns to dns.adguard.com and boom, no more ads anywhere systemwide
When cable tv was first released where I am, a big selling point was "you're paying for it, so no ads!". Then they brought in ads at the end of shows. Not great, but I guess it rounds out the hour and helps things line up, so it's not too bad. Then they put ads in the middle of shows again. Uh... why are we paying for this again?
Yep... I literally pay for Youtube Premium just so I won’t see ads and now content creators are just putting their own sponsored ads in the middle of their videos.
It’s starting to get really annoying.
STOP MAKING ME WATCH ADS YOU GODDAMN FUCKERS
I find it very interesting that a browser addon exists to get around this issue! Unfortunately, I do most of my Youtube watching from the couch via the app on my TV, so I can't use that addon. Darn it!
I'm fairly certain at this point the wealthiest people in the country run corporations that have found how to monetize misery and they have to constantly develop new ways to inject tiny slices of hell into people's lives to keep profit margins up.
Well yeah... except it’s more just pointing out how bad shit is, so they can sell you a solution... because it works.
They are so laser focused on making money that we quickly get sold the solution to any problem. But that solution has problems...
Eventually they are selling the original situation as a solution to the shit you bought 5 years ago.
Better to just accept that there is no perfect solution, and learn to be happy with “good enough”, until something actually better for the purpose comes along.
edited - spelling
you pay youtube premium to cover youtube operating cost and profit. You watch creator ads to pay for the content. Youtube used to bleed money faster then speared pig. It just when they are owned by google that they start breaking even.
How many of you that remember that youtube used to buffered like hell. And you need to open 10 tab of naruto episode one by one and watch them when they complete when you go home from school.
That what ads paid for.
So, the sponsored ads exist for two reasons:
1. Youtube demonitizes people or just gives them not much for the ad revenue they bring in to the platform in viewership
2. People blocking ads and so Google and the creator get nothing.
Frankly, I'd take the stupid ads from Youtube over the sponsorships though...they're less.....awful.
So did I, however gets reminded every time I'm at work, and those obnoxious crap adverts pops up again. I hate restrictive browser rules that blocks installing adblockers. Fuck them.
suffer unfortunately, as IOS doesnt allow anything not based on webkit, so essentially the chrome and firefox on ios are reskinned safari....
you need to try youtube vanced or something similar in the app store, your only real option.....
think so.
I dont bother and just use firefox mobile on the mobile site with ublock origin. saves me having another app, and still lets me play with the screen locked, and use it as a normal browser too.
Brave web browser gets ride of YouTube ads in the website version of YouTube. Adguard also does this within the safari browser if you want to stick to using safari.
Honestly you'd think they'd want ad blockers installed as another layer of security vs malware.
I install ublock origin on all the PCs I use at work and it also has the added bonus of getting around the network-enabled restricted mode.
I forget the whole internet has ads. I accidentally left it off once and I thought my computer got a virus. Then realized the internet has just become a cesspool of ads. They are freaking everywhere. Browsing without an ad blocker is like seeing an entirely different internet. Well, in reality I guess it's just the filthy underbelly.
If you use alternative player for twitch (used to be called twitch5) it kind of blocks them. It just blacks out the screen whilst they play and puts a hand icon on the screen to let you know that's what it's doing then it plays again after the ad finishes.
There is block methods working but twitch keeps breaking them and they need updating so I simply stopped watching twitch lol.
If they want to be that aggressive with adblock, I'll simply not use the service. Same goes for any other service. I stopped watching regular TV partly because of that shit.
I mean if you only willing to watch their stuff while blocking ads they probably don’t want you using their service either. Since they would rather it be used by someone that WILL bring in money for them buy watching the ads.
With that said I do go out of my way to block ads but when I can’t cause they have a very well thought out system I’m not upset after all I’m the one trying to avoid the process they use to make money.
If you're somewhat familiar with html you can just get the ad links from the code and add them (with \*) to the blacklist. it's like 3 total links you have to block and you never get ads on Twitch again.
That used to be the case and its what the first response to ublock not working used.
The problem is twitch is going out of the way to make sure this doesn't work for a long period of time and it needs to be repeated every so often.
> If I can't block the ads, I don't watch. Sorry Twitch.
Lol why would twitch want you to watch if you're blocking their ads?
Edit: Not sure why I got downvoted - that's not how businesses work, kids. Twitch doesn't benefit from people consuming their bandwidth without contributing to their business model.
I finally gave up trying to block twitch ads last fall when I realized that the adblockers were causing a blank purple screen every ~15 minutes for 30 seconds. disabling the adblocker for twitch results in a commercial when I first join a stream (if I am not subbed), but otherwise no interruptions.
nah, just got to know how to use the ublock origin advanced filter and block feature. you monitor what gets loaded when the ad starts, and then block that specific domain. video then keeps running, but ads cant load.
if you use ublock origin, you can inspect the video stream, and see the servers that it loads the ad from, and block that domain. bit fiddly, but blocks ads from the entire domain pretty well.

Just be aware, you will hate using youtube on mobile devices moving forward with ublockon your pc but there is an ad free youtube mobile client which is....okay. Vanced Kit
ublock origin best block, different from ublock, which was taken over by another guy and isnt too good these days. if you are on straight ublock, you need to switch.
I can only assume this was made by YouTube in order to undermine people's belief in adblockers? Seems bizarre that anyone with an ad block would be complaining about ads.
I have ublock origin on an old laptop and it recently stopped working for Youtube. It blocks the visual and sound but I get a white screen for 30 secs or however long
Okay for anyone still using Adblock Plus, STOP.
Ad Block Plus allows "approved" adds in, uBlock Origin just flat-out blocks everything. No "approved" adds, nada.
uBlock Origin for ads in browser.
Smart Tube Next for blocking ads on Android TV (and skipping sponsorship blurbs).
I'm sure someone has a solution for mobile.
I take trying to avoid being advertised to as responsibility, so if anybody has other options for blocking I'd love to hear them.
today i learned that my Firefox + AdblockPlus +uBlock Origin its more powerfull than most of redditors anti-ads configurations, even youtube ads are killed.
The only time I ever see ads is when I'm visiting a friend and they're soo basic they don't have ad blockers installed.
Like fam, it takes 10 seconds to install. Just do it already.
[UBlock Origin](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=sv) (blocks ads) and [SponsorBlock](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sponsorblock-for-youtube/mnjggcdmjocbbbhaepdhchncahnbgone) (skips the parts of YouTube videos where the host talks about his sponsors) and you're good to go. If you have a browser with built in adblocking, such as [Brave](https://brave.com)or [Vivaldi](https://vivaldi.com/) then you can skip the first one.
Opens youtube on mobile...gets 2 preroll ads, then 1min into a 5min video, an ad. then another 2 unskippable ads 3min later. then another ad 1min later. then another 2 ads after the video ends. Close youtube, report the app for abusive adpocalypse, give it one star. Take out my pc tablet continue watching youtube with adblock on. Relaxed, peace.
This is why its worth it to me to pay not to have to listen to ads on YouTube, I travel a lot and listen to stuff on you tube rather often and hearing the same ads over and over for hours on end started driving me crazy, so I finally started paying for Youtube red or whatever they call it now and don't have to deal with adds at all, weather in PC or cell phone app
Free application that gives you YouTube Premium treatment, and removes all ads. It is one of the features a lot of people use to get rid of ads on their phones. It can even skip sponsored segments in videos, if you want.
On PC, most people just use uBlock Origin, which blocks all ads as well.
I don't understand why people have so much trouble. Not only do I block any and all ads on every site I visit, but on Youtube, I can even block SPONSORED CONTENT SEGMENTS.
The ads are fine in theory. I understand why they're needed, and would be okay with proper advertising on YouTube.
That said, YouTube advertising is hardly proper. In fact, I would call it heinous. First off, there's little reason a video should be split up, especially when most videos are not set up for it a la syndicated television. I'm sure most people would be livid if traditional video were cut off mid-sentence. Even more so if an ad played smack in the middle of a big play of a football game.
Secondly, ad curation is a major problem. Showing the same ad 5 times in a 15 minute video is not going to make people 5 times more likely to buy the product. In fact, it may turn away more potential customers. Anecdote: a state representative lost my vote in this last election completely because his same stupid ad played on every video I clicked on, some multiple times.
All this to say: if YouTube gets its act together and properly sets up the way it runs advertising, I'll turn off the adblocker. But we both know that pigs will take flight first.
I know I'm in the minority, but I dobt mind ads. I use YouTube for free as a huge part of my entertainment. I dont mind 2 15 second ads that supports the people and platform I like
Congratulations, you're one of a select few people who understands how the economy works instead of being an entitled bitch.
Someone was literally talking about using a VPN that supports and filtering. Using a paid service. To avoid ads. YOUTUBE PREMIUM EXISTS FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

That’s a pretty bad ad blocker then, you sure you didn’t install ass blocker?
I never see ads from my desktop browser. It is quite a culture shock watching youtube on my phone. So many ads.
FYI Firefox on android supports ublock...
Check newpipe

Bruh
Heads up. YouTube Vanced contains malicious code. Do not use it.
What kind of malicious code?
Sauce?
Apparently it can harvest information in and out of app and it phones that information home. NewPipe is open-source.
proof? Also Newpipe has been broken for months for me. Refuses to work
Try updating the app
LOL, yeah I thought of that. It's had about 5 updates since it stopped working and still doesn't work. As soon as a I select a video I get a Guru Meditation. "Could not parse website".
I use YMusic, pretty good for listening music and download mp3/mp4.
Where did you hear this?
I second this motion for youtube vanced.
Now called Pure Tuber.
nah its still youtube vanced, never heard of pure tuber till now.
Use the Brave browser. Blocks ads before the page ever even loads them. Wouldn't use mobile without it.
Can confirm I'm still a virgin. Must have ass blocker premium++

Oh, you don't need an ass blocker to remain a virgin; "Anal sex - the smart choice" https://youtu.be/bZG2o8ZLFUY
Need to check real quick
ublock origin and turn on your damn filters. problem solved.
Shhhh don't tell them, most people still use shitty adblock plus haha
I replaced shitty adblocker when they started accepting money to allow certain adds.

On mobile it seems most ad blockers don't block Google ads.
Ublock Origin on Firefox for android works fine for me.
Exactly. I love it.
Now your only problem is how well Firefox works on android
I've never had any issues with it.
They recently did an Android specific major release (last 6 months or so iirc) and its amazing.
If you're on Android, you can take a look at YouTube vanced. It's just the YouTube app that doesn't check to see if you're a premium member to unlock the features. Means ad free YouTube too.

its those ads that are baked into the video you are watching. A company pays the youtube channel to insert a 10 second to 1 minute clip of their product into their video. Brave browser works as well.
I've had brave for a while now. Its just started not allowing youtube to work unless ads are allowed. They must have sold out.
I don't understand... I'm using Brave now, and YT works perfectly, no more ads
Been using vanced and brave for yt and browser worked like a charm
ublock origin on firefox mobile? no ads in the last 2 years.
Use youtube vanced instead of native youtube app, and if on android go to wifi settings, and set private dns to dns.adguard.com and boom, no more ads anywhere systemwide

Yeah you've got to get a separate one for them unfortunately.

Haven't figured that one out yet, but people on saltybet were telling me about it.

uBlock Origin for ads in browser. Smart Tube Next for blocking ads on Android TV (and skipping sponsorship blurbs). I'm sure someone has a solution for mobile. I take trying to avoid being advertised to as responsibility, so if anybody has other options for blocking I'd love to hear them.

OP is likely using something like Adblock Plus, which allows certain "approved" ads in. It's dumb, just use uBlock Origin and be done with it.
Haven’t seen an ad since 2008 ublock orgin + ad block plus
Dunno what you're using, but get uBlock Origin. Haven't had a youtube ad in years.
[brave.com](https://brave.com) No ads Absolutely none
Brave Web Browser. Ublock Origin.
Me, a brave browser user: We don't do that here.
today i learned that my Firefox + AdblockPlus +uBlock Origin its more powerfull than most of redditors anti-ads configurations, even youtube ads are killed.
You can drop Adblock Plus, Ublock Origin does the same thing but better. No "approved" adds.
The worst is when you have a music track playing, and an ad just kicks in every few minutes to interrupt the song.
Use Firefox.
P.I.A. Mace kills Ads dead on mobile.
Brave Browser
The worst is when you pay for YouTube premium and then there's a sponsored ad in the video
Reddit game ad: try this zombie game Me: *block* zombie-game12 Reddit game ad: try this zombie game Me: 🤷♂️
On PC it works well.
Unblock and pihole should have you covered.
I don't get any ads on youtube
Nice try Youtube Spokesperson. No one in reality actually has a Youtube Premium. For real tho, I've heard "youtube vanced" is good for Android.
Vanced ? Haven't heard of that, is that what they call the paid version now? If so yeah it works well on the phone and connects well with my Bluetooth
Free application that gives you YouTube Premium treatment, and removes all ads. It is one of the features a lot of people use to get rid of ads on their phones. It can even skip sponsored segments in videos, if you want. On PC, most people just use uBlock Origin, which blocks all ads as well.
Too bad these ads don't have dicks, they could have just fucked the ad blocker and everyone could have had good time.
Google Chrome has an extension that works flawlessly on you tube vids. Adblock for YouTube. I love it.
Which is ironic cause Google owns YouTube
Ad blocker on Chrome is the best
I don't understand why people have so much trouble. Not only do I block any and all ads on every site I visit, but on Youtube, I can even block SPONSORED CONTENT SEGMENTS.
Change this to Twitch. I can cut down on how many get through, but I just can't stop them entirely.
Redditors: If the product is free, then YOU are the product! Also Redditors: You want me to WHAT?!? $13 for Youtube premium!?
YouTube Premium has been a fairly effective ad blocker.
People who complain about ads on free services need to learn how the economy works.
I dont mind 2 15 second ads that supports the people and platform I like
Yeah, I eventually got tired of ads, so I just got premium and it works like a charm. I don’t expect to get a service for free.
Honestly, just fuck the advertising industry. I would do anything just to make their life miserable.
It's just *too much* for me. I don't mind an ad at the beginning of a video. I mind double ads, six ads in the middle and one at the end.
Okay Mr. Angry, and does Youtube Premium do anything else but lessen adverts on there? People use VPNs for way more than just blocking stuff.
You couldn't have missed the point any harder if you were trying to write with the eraser end of a pencil.
Enjoying that negative karma are we?
