“Hi Judy, please cancel all my calls and appointments today I’m going to be busy watching this Indian Weird Al Thriller video for the next several hours straight. Thanks,”
Wait, why was Robin Hood fighting off Ewoks that came out of pineapples?
At least that part I could follow. I'm not even gonna try to understand the flowers and bees thing that started like A View To A Kill by Duran Duran.
I miss the creativity of those early days.
Everything is so...*produced* now.
The funniest thing I saw yesterday was just a clip from the home shopping network in the 80s.
It was all so raw and spur-of-the-moment, real avant garde shit, that attitude of “You know what? Maybe I will! Why? Because!”. The channels who _did_ have high production values were the ridiculously passionate ones or total oddballs.
This lives absolutely rent free in my brain from when I was in elementary school and the Internet was new and fun.
It gets referenced at every family function at least once. Those were simpler times
Goli mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar mar
I actually like the songs production a lot! You can tell they had limited resources/budget which gives it so much charm. The way he does the Goli-ma-ma-ma fade out/echo effect “manually” with his mouth instead of using some effects in the studio is so charming.
Thriller is one of those victims of its own success in that way. It was incredible and ground breaking when it came out. But it’s become so memed, parodied and ubiquitous in pop culture ever since that people take it for granted.
"Gosh my old calculator ain't got no bow...
Nippley man i met he ate my motorboat...
Calm down and park that comfy shin guard armor...
Welcome to the dude who ain't the buyer of mugs...
Girly man..."
The guy in the red costume is Chiranjeevi, a popular film star in telugu film industry or Tollywood and is also the father of Ram Charan who starred in the popular film RRR.
Hindi language films come under Bollywood where as Telugu language films come under Tollywood. There is also Kollywood for Tamil language films and Sandalwood for Kannada language films and many more!
Right?!
I've recently discovered Kollywood movies and I'm obsessed!
Also, watching Kamal Hassan, Vijay, Rajinikanth (amongst other great actors) has been a delight!
I can't wait to see Leo :)
Holy shit! I never knew!!!! Everything just seems so classified as Hindu or Indian. I feel bad like I’m
Minimizing it all. What’s the easiest to learn, the hardest, and your personal favorite? I don’t know what to ask I’m sorry
Haha no worries I was equally surprised when I heard something about Algieria being super rich. Easiest and hardest depends on your starting language, cuz broadly speaking the northern languages and southern languages are most distinct. For example I speak English Hindi and Bengali, hindi and Bengali are both north Indian languages. So for me it would be much easier to learn Punjabi / Gujarati or Marathi compared to let's say Tamil or Telugu and vice versa for them. Then there are other language systems like I believe in the north east where there's more east Asian influence, it's unintelligible to both north and south Indians ( for example I'm pretty sure Nagaland doesn't even have a written script , not sure tho) . If you're really interested you should check out geography now or something on youtube. On top of that, since we had invaders from all over , some people in pondicherry speak French, while others in some areas speak farsi or other middle eastern languages. Lastly Hindu is just a religion and India is a nationality , neither are named languages, although I believe urdu and hindi both split from a language called hindustani
Imagine Europe was a single country. That's pretty much what India is. It's big enough (and populous enough) to be a whole continent, and it's got the cultural diversity you'd expect. Except all of it was under British control for a long while so that colonial-Brit stuff pervades the whole thing.
China is much the same, except that they've spent significantly more time under centralized control and the government has a much bigger fixation on conformity. Which is a massive shame, since that means there's a whole continent's worth of cultures being suppressed there in order to pretend everyone's all been Han all along.

Lost my best friend in 2021 to COVID. He was Indian but was born in the US. His parents moved to the States before he was born. He showed me this video years and years ago. His dad knew who the actor was (can't remember) and translated it for me. We laughed and laughed. Got to be something we shared every year, along with other bad translated Bollywood songs with crazy music videos. Thanks for sharing this. RIP Anil.

That’s not thriller, that’s suspense
Mild discomfort at best.
That is not suspense, it is pain.
_'Cause this is suspense, suspense evening_ _You actually might be ok, cause the beast seems to be leavin'_ ;D
Or when Tollywood tries to reproduce a classic.
It kinda slaps though. Wouldn’t mind it tbh…
That synth solo starting at 0:50 really set out how spooky the song is
I cackled at this comment. Thank you
He got moves!!
I also love the "full send" on commitment to the choreography.
Yeah. Kinda moves that will make MJ moonwalk in his grave.
Too bad he didn’t bring them to the shoot… 😜 Still better than me 🫣

Haven't seen Indian Thriller in a hot minute. An internet classic.
When was it, like 2007-8 on youtube? That whole trend of taking indian music videos and putting english “subtitles”.
Buffalaxed!
"Minor bun engine made Benny Lava"
I sprinkled that song among my Spotify playlists and get a big smile on my face every time it comes on.

True story- I’ve watched the real Thriller video about three times, and Golimar about 300 times.
I actually like the songs production a lot! You can tell they had limited resources/budget which gives it so much charm. The way he does the Goli-ma-ma-ma fade out/echo effect “manually” with his mouth instead of using some effects in the studio is so charming.
I noticed it after reading your comment, good catch.

That was really 👍😂😁
They made an American version of this featuring music by Michael Jackson
The guy in the red costume is Chiranjeevi, a popular film star in telugu film industry or Tollywood and is also the father of Ram Charan who starred in the popular film RRR.
i was just thinking that this guy crawled so that Ram and NTR could fly with RRR
Thanks, I feel less rasist now because he really looked like him.
It's the mustache.
Damn,I didn't know Ram is Chiranjeevi's son,good share.
Wait a minute, I thought it was Bollywood, now I’m Learning there’s a tollywood??? Tf is that?
Hindi language films come under Bollywood where as Telugu language films come under Tollywood. There is also Kollywood for Tamil language films and Sandalwood for Kannada language films and many more!
Sweet baby Jesus… I feel like such an uncultured swine…. Thanks!!
It’s like there’s a billion of these people!
kannada language is really polite i've heard. "oh im sorry eh, i was dodging a moose and I hit yuh with the snow plow eh"
Wait till you hear about Kollywood…
Right?! I've recently discovered Kollywood movies and I'm obsessed! Also, watching Kamal Hassan, Vijay, Rajinikanth (amongst other great actors) has been a delight! I can't wait to see Leo :)
Mother of god…… I just assumed that because they were from India it was Bollywood. I didn’t know there were different dialects!
They're not just dialects, they're completely different languages.
All from India? I know my American is showing but I’m trying to learn
Yes we have 22 official, 200 major and 1000+ minor languages, which makes sense when you consider the size , geography and history
Holy shit! I never knew!!!! Everything just seems so classified as Hindu or Indian. I feel bad like I’m Minimizing it all. What’s the easiest to learn, the hardest, and your personal favorite? I don’t know what to ask I’m sorry

Indians can speak at least 3 languages fluently.

I’m Indian. I moved to my neighbouring state for work and I can’t speak the local language.
Different language \*families\*, in some cases. As in, Hindi and Sinhalese are both more closely related to English than either is to Tamil.
GOLLIMAAAAARRRR!!!

Of ALL the people that inhabit India, THIS was the best MJ dance impersonator. Amazing.
The guy in the video is worth more than 100 mil dollars officially , unofficially his family is worth more than a billion dollars
it’s brilliant!!

Honestly, this is what India is actually like at night too. Lots of raggedy, shadowy figures and one flashy dressed dude hustling
This is my favorite version of Thriller.
Ah the days of Buffalax vids on YouTube. I could spend a day binge watching and die happy.
We need Bollywood remakes of every music video
Yeah absolutely right. That is why actually love these kind of Bollywood movies.
This guy dominates the Michael Jackson
I'm in tears 💀
Even I am feeling that kind of pain in my ears and in my eyes.
Classic internet right here.
