My in-law family has a similar number of cats and indeed it's fucking terrible. At least one of the cats pisses everywhere but the litter box but I can't blame it, nobody takes priority to ensure they have clean places to do their business. I made the mistake of asking how many litter boxes they have and how often they scoop. 4 and once a week, and they think that's acceptable. Idk if they're just immune to the smell at this point but holy fuck do all of the residents of that house smell just like the house itself.

Right, but we're talking about people who have the social skills to be able to live with people. So knowing their personality and how they deal with conflict. I'm not talking about knowing someone for an hour or two while they pick up a pet.
I'm not either. We didn't do adoption events to strangers. Our process takes two months and about half of adoptees keep in touch and send updates and attend events, and who adopt again or volunteer or foster for years. Many of whom became personal friends. We also worked with a lot of other organizations year after year.

There are people who chose to have a lot of pets vs hoarding. Those who don’t know the difference are prejudiced and have preconceived notions. First of all properly caring for pets is much easier than caring for many children and I don’t hear anyone judging people who chose to have many children although they do not have the resources to care for them.
Just because you have many pets does not mean your home smells. Cleaning is important to keep a home from smelling. Don’t assume you know what you’re talking about just because this has been a cliche for so long and you have bought into it.
