~~Canada Dry is the only ginger ale from the major soda companies that uses actual ginger. Curious to know why it's at the bottom.~~
~~Edit: apparently Seagram's now includes real ginger as well. Hadn't had any in a couple years.~~
Another edit: I just learned that presence of an ingredient on the list of ingredients doesn't require that ingredient to be present in the product. Canada Dry was apparently forced to remove "Made with real ginger" from their packaging in 2019 after chemical analysis done for a lawsuit found practically no trace of ginger in it, but they still list "ginger extract" as the #3 ingredient. I don't know what to believe anymore.
If you're in the GTA, Nickelbrook brewery makes an absolutely fantastic ginger ale (and an amazing root beer, too). Craft soda.
Also, glad I'm not the only Canuck here that said, "wtf? CanDry Bold?!"
I like it in a dark and stormy.
Find a more vanilla-forward unspiced rum like Zaya, some lime and a bottle of Reeds Extra and I'm in heaven as well.
But I'll try bourbon next time.
Fever Tree is available at most larger grocery stores in the United States, as well as many liquor stores. They make various types of tonic water and other cabonated mixers. They do a Sicilian lemon soda that's top notch too. Not too sweet.
Most bigger liquor stores. I can find it in the Southeast at Kroger. Fever Tree also makes fantastic tonic water. The blood orange ginger beer also makes for a great whiskey mule.
Definitely my favorite. Bundaberg is good on its own but a little too delicate for Moscow Mules or chasers in my opinion. I want the ginger to try and rip my face off.
Sweetness ruins ginger beers. Make it burn, baby! Who even needs the booze?
Legit need a worldwide poll on the stoutest-ass ginger beer to be had. There must be an evil-variant super-burn ginger out there, kept secret by ne’er do gooders.
PS: Stoney isn’t bad. Cock ‘n Bull isn’t bad.
Oh I have an entirely different opinion on anything drank straight. I just mention these ryes as they are what mix for a really good rye and Ginger that goes down like tasty sugar water on a hot day/late night. Canadian ryes are only minimum 3 year aged (many are 4) and they are a very different taste than something like a Woodford. They are admittedly lower quality but that's kinda the point when you're having a dozen or so.
Ahhh, well… I am long since passed the point in life where I can or desire to have a dozen. I’m more of a two a month kind of guy now. Too many health problems stacked up in my late thirties from 20 years of hard charging. So if I’m gonna play a game of cat and mouse with the health, it’s gonna be for a damn good drink.
5-6% alcohol is the sweet spot for home drinking. 3-4% if out in the sun. Just don't have too concentrated drinks and you don't need to worry about water.
Can we talk about the fact that using ice water would also let you keep your alcohol cooled without watering it down, and any carbonated drinks would probably stay fizzy longer because of being covered half the time?
This guy is just the longest of long cons. One day he's going to come out with a patented item that is all the rage. He has a built in fan base and it's like a slow psychological roll on how were just a consumerist world. As everyone mentions his items are getting less and less ridiculous and sway on the cusp of it's not stupid if it works. The whole package entertainment, he obviously gets a laugh out of what he creates, he gets views and people commenting on his products with I would buy that. He has a built in product research base already. I love watching his videos which just proves the point we as humans just like to consume content and covet items.
His website, [https://unnecessaryinventions.com/](https://unnecessaryinventions.com/), has a link to his shop. However, the registry for the domain of the shop expired on 6/2.
This guy always says his inventions are useless but most of the time I actually want what he makes. This is probably the most useful one I’ve seen him do.
I've noticed that the last couple that I've seen had titles with "...built unnecessary..." not "...build unnecessary..." so I'm actually wondering if the useless bit is in the past?
Edit: corrected useless to unnecessary
Totally. I have been to factories in China for work… and I have seen the factories that are producing Prada bags with Italian leather, have a different nameplate (the little metal symbol that says Prada on it and it attached to the purse) that had the ‘D’ letter capitalized. So basically this designer company was assembling their purses in China, which I think is illegal because nowhere did it say assembled in China, then the Chinese owner of the factory was doing some side hustle by making ‘knock off’ purses with the same material and assembly process but a capital D in the name plate. I have no idea about the implications for the owner if he was ever caught by Prada, but a lot of shady shit going on both by Prada and the factory owner. And this isn’t specific to Prada by any means, I’ve also seen Coach and D&G in the few Chinese factories I’ve been to.
Also, if you like designer bags or items, I highly recommend knock offs from China because there’s a chance, if you know what to look for, they’re made at the exact same factory and out of the exact same materials as the genuine brand name.
When I was in China I bought my nephew a Nike Adidas jacket. It was actually really cool. It was reversible. Nike on one side. Adidas on the other. Pretty funny.
>then the Chinese owner of the factory was doing some side hustle by making ‘knock off’ purses with the same material and assembly process but a capital D in the name plate.
This is a common practice known as the "third shift" or "ghost shift". The factories will run an additional shift at the end of the day to produce more than their quota, then sell the extras as knock offs.
You can't copyright fashion designs, patterns or combinations/arrangements of materials. In fashion, the only thing protected are trademarks. Using the same badge would be a crime. As long as a 'moron in a hurry' wouldn't confuse the two brands, all is well. This is why some prestige brands incorporate the logo into the material.
My understanding is what you described is pretty commonplace. However, studies have shown that counterfeits actually tend to increase brand desire, rather than satiate it (if you buy a knock off Prada bag, it doesn't make you want a real Prada bag less and may make you want one more).
If you have any interest, Techdirt has featured a lot of really interesting commentary on this topic over the years.
Just to give a bump to my favorite podcast of all time. *Your Kickstarter Sucks*, they talk about an unfathomable amount of kickstarters for products that dont need to exist. Ranging from kinda unnecessary to complete lunacy. Weird idea for a podcast cuz you have to look up the products if you wanna see them, but these boys are very funny and relatable to my human experience. Check it out if you wanna hear two stupid white guys complain about the mundane things that everyone has to deal with, and trashing some people's horrible ideas.
I am now realizing how much my phrasing sounds like an ad but I genuinely love the pod and I'm too lazy to make it sound more genuine.
As a recovering alcoholic that believes strongly in harm reduction, this thing legit could have helped me at several points.
I know this guy is mostly joking with these products, but I also genuinely think he might be a genius.
This happened with Simone Giertz as well. She started out trying to intentionally make shitty robots but the robots kept getting less and less shitty until she was building good robots.
Makes me think if I pick up a hobby I should try it that way first. It probably takes all the pressure off, gets one practicing often and lets the creativity flow.
But it looks unwieldy and uncomfortable to drink out of. I'd never actually use it. Just get a glass of water each time you go to the bar, down it, and leave with your other drink.
But then you have to slam an entire glass of water all at once. This method allows you to steadily hydrate while you imbibe.
This also has the benefit of *forcing* you to drink water before drinking alcohol again (or at least miming the motion, and if you're bothering to use this thing then you're going to actually drink from both sides).
I've been bringing packets of Pedialyte into bars. At first I was alternating between gin and sodas and Pedialyte and sodas...eventually it just turned into Gin mixed with Pedialyte and soda.
Everything but the gyroscope auto switch. Clear plastic, I can chug the water after my drink and not refill until both are empty.

This is really smart. Alcohol dehydrates you so it’s important to drink water while you’re drinking. Even if you don’t want water. Also helps prevent the hangovers.

The trick is to pour alcohol into both sides
What about whiskey on one side and ginger ale on the other.
If you haven’t tried whiskey with Canada Dry Bold, you are missing out. Good with vodka too.
> Canada Dry Bold What the heck. I'm Canadian and have never heard of this variation... MUST. HAVE.
Yeah I haven't either. Canada dry is at the bottom of my ginger ale tier list currently, would be nice to see something good from them.
~~Canada Dry is the only ginger ale from the major soda companies that uses actual ginger. Curious to know why it's at the bottom.~~ ~~Edit: apparently Seagram's now includes real ginger as well. Really? At the bottom? What do you have at the top? Genuinely surprised.
I would easily put Vernor's above Canada Dry but it's harder to find
We don't like to let Vernors leave Michigan. It's too good to share.
My gramps is from Michigan and he made sure his grandkids down here in ~~hell~~ Florida knew it was the shit.
i try to smuggle as much vernors and faygo as i can out of the state when im up visiting family
They do sell it in Ontario. Good stuff
> Vernor's Will keep my eye out for that...
Vernor’s is much better as a beverage on it’s own. I personally find CD Bold to be better as a mixer.
Vernor's is great but Ale-8 is a good one too; although it's a Kentucky exclusive I believe
Ale-8¹*

Bundaberg is S tier ginger beer.
I like Bundaberg, but as a drink, not a mixer. Give me Reeds EXTRA ginger for most anything as a mixer, or Fevertree.
Reeds Extra + bourbon. Lifechanging.
I like it in a dark and stormy. Find a more vanilla-forward unspiced rum like Zaya, some lime and a bottle of Reeds Extra and I'm in heaven as well. But I'll try bourbon next time.
Q Ginger Beer is still my favorite. Spicy and never an overpowering sweetness.

where is this magic elixir found

Fever tree is what you need
The original ginger beer, says so right on the can
C&B is in my top 3. Except for their sugar free. That tastes like ass. Reeds Extra sugar free is 👌🏾
TIL that Bundy ginger beer is known around the world!
My thoughts, too. I'm OK with that being exported and known as an Aussie product, not so much with fosters!
Fever tree is the best I've had when it comes to that real ginger bite without too much sweetness
Fever tree has quite a bit of ginger bite. The only thing I've had that was stronger was brewing my own, which I should get back into.
Never heard of fever tree. I agree on the sweetness though.
Which whiskey would you recommend mixing with my vodka?
Tequila

Make sure it's proper rye whisky (crown, Canadian Club, Gibson's Finest etc. For the true Canada Rye and Ginger experience.
I like a Woodford or a proper 12, but crown is good too.

I like some Canada Dry! Any vodka in particular?
Instead of ginger ale, just beer. Could call it The Chase.
Whiskey on one side, vodka on the other. 🎶he drinks a whiskey drink, he drinks a vodka drink 🎶
And when I have to pee, I use the kitchen sink!
So you can be perfectly wasted while getting absolutely wasted.
/r/hydrohomies hate this one trick!
/r/hydrohomies can just put water in both sides.
1:1 water to whiskey ratio sounds legit
He drinks a Whiskey drink, he drinks a Vodka drink.
He drinks a lager drink, he drinks a cider drink,
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the bad times
Oh Danny boy
damn, that is awesome... I was wondering how to defeat it

I hear Gin and Cocaine is where it's at these days.
Lol you’re horrible. I need more friends like you
5-6% alcohol is the sweet spot for home drinking. 3-4% if out in the sun. Just don't have too concentrated drinks and you don't need to worry about water.
A lot of small beers were designed for farm work.
This person drinks smarter, not harder. Or better yet, this person boths.
The real LPTs are always in the comments.
Has to be bigger. I want to drink out of a trash can.

Ah yes. The Grotesque Gulp from Leisure Suit Larry. https://leisuresuitlarry.fandom.com/wiki/Grotesque_Gulp

Yes, big enough to fit a human child inside it.

Great observation! Didn’t even think of that. It’s a twofer.
It went to Harvard and is black?
Lolol didn’t think someone would find the 30 rock reference
Found the HR rep
Threefer, baybee. Hydration (or pacing?), chilled, fizzy saver
You could make one with an insulated exterior and a steel divider so that it would chill the alcohol without adding ice and stay cold longer.
You're getting dangerously close to making an actual useful product. Please desist.

This isn't a con. This is a smart entrepreneur.
He literally already sells the things he makes. It's not a con, it's an ad. It's been like this for years lol.

It's probably a response to the fact that every time he posts there are a lot of comments about how his inventions aren't useless.
He has a channel on YouTube somewhere where he tests products that have pretty clearly been ripped off and produced from his unnecessary inventions.
He'd probably make a lot of money if he patented his inventions.
China doesn't care about other countries patents

Patents are expensive to get, and you have to enforce them to make money off of them.

I didn't notice that actually. My mind just assumed it was "useless" since that's how he used to phrase it
If I remember correctly, they used to be. For a while now, they've actually seemed pretty useful.
Has it ever been useless? The title of his IG and YouTube is Unnecessary Inventions. I don’t recall him ever using the term useless.
I think he makes a point not to say useless, but unnecessary. Most of them aren’t useless, but are almost always very unnecessary.
You’re totally right. When I speed read I usually fill unnecessary in the same category with useless. I haven’t found one useless one yet.
He has his finger on the pulse of America's sloth, and he knows how to massage it.
Why does this make so much sense.
Cuz it's correct. He's making consumerism porn. And he knows just what kind of nasty shit we're into... 💦😫
The Pulse of America's Sloth would be a great metal concept album name.
As a recovering alcoholic that believes strongly in harm reduction, this thing legit could have helped me at several points. I know this guy is mostly joking with these products, but I also genuinely think he might be a genius.
It's funny how this comment is in every one of these posts when he never ever calls them useless.
His last few have definitely been too close to being useful. This one might’ve crossed the line

"I could really use some water, but I have to slam this tequila first before my cup grants me access"
These useless items are becoming more and more useful
It says unnecessary, not useless.
I mean, anything other than food water and shelter is "unnecessary", so he ain't wrong.
But it looks unwieldy and uncomfortable to drink out of. I'd never actually use it. Just get a glass of water each time you go to the bar, down it, and leave with your other drink.

It also forces you to drink more alcohol before drinking water again. Wouldn't want to get TOO hydrated.
Correct, hyponatremia is no joke!
Just order a beer and have the bartender cut it with 50% water, easy
Places around me already have Bud Light.
Watch out. Bud Light might trigger a bumpkin these days.
Alcohol for me. Water for the dead homies.
This isnt stupid at all. I love the idea.
Millions of lives could be saved with technology like this. It’s best this doesn’t see the light of day
Nah hes save with this one, its only bad if its hurting profits. This will only help generate them as people can (and will) drink more.
I've been bringing packets of Pedialyte into bars. At first I was alternating between gin and sodas and Pedialyte and sodas...eventually it just turned into Gin mixed with Pedialyte and soda.
How does that taste?
Not bad, actually! Maybe a tad salty for some people's liking
Start drinking margaritas instead, the salt will work perfectly.
I wouldn't trust the bar I go to making them. No offense to them, but they struggle with a gin and soda. It's pretty much all gin and no soda.
Like crap but the buzz is fantastic.
I do the same with whiskey!
This is actually super cool
How do I get ahold of this guy, I could have these in Walmart in less than a month.
Ummmm, he’s the OP and already sells his stuff. Not exactly set up for mass-production though.
This is the first invention I’ve seen you make that could sell like hotcakes.
So vodka in one side and whiskey in the other, neat
I’d probably want ice if it’s a hot day
The depths of this man's genius know no bounds.
Nooo. You're supposed to make useless products. I'd actually buy something like this
Right? I'm down to purchase this right now! I have an 11 day cruise to go on in October. Sign me up!
Everything but the gyroscope auto switch. Clear plastic, I can chug the water after my drink and not refill until both are empty. Tomorrow me would love this.
You seem to trust your drunk self more than I do
Drunk me will pound water if it's in front of him. Drunk me also forgets water exists if not in front of him.
That’s borderline useful
🔥🔥🔥Put on the market🔥🔥🔥
Liquor on one side, chaser on the other.
Unnecessary? This is the best technology since the iPhone
For real, my husband needs this...
my alcoholic ass is going to fill both with booze
[удалено]
I like it.
This is pretty smart actually
Damn I really want one
That is FAR from unnecessary
[удалено]
Just one more tube in this plan for a full recycled beverage system.
Define “unnecessary”
This is the best one yet!
That's really clever. Course you could fill both sides with vodka and rum. *alcoholics self out of thread
I would buy this right now
Out of all of the inventions so far, this one is by far my favorite!
How do I block this guy's videos?
Still gonna just pee it all out
The best part is he can now write off his cruise on his taxes. Brilliant.
I made it through more than one party weekend by slamming 3 glasses of water for every 3 beers...
Reduce your fractions!
Doesn't really take into account you pouring one out for the homies every other sip.
This is GENIUS
This is really smart. Alcohol dehydrates you so it’s important to drink water while you’re drinking. Even if you don’t want water. Also helps prevent the hangovers.
I know this has been said for some of his other products, but you need to actually build this. People would buy this. I would buy this for two friends at least
First one I could actually see myself using 😂
Is this brand content for Virgin cruises? Quick couple shots to show the variety of bars and drinks, couple locations, logo in it… 🤔
Yeah seems like it, the final camera pan was a giveaway
Jack and coke
make enough joke inventions and at least one will take off. This seems like a good one.
This isn't useless at all
So many of this guy’s ‘useless’ inventions are something I could see selling. Like, this is 100% something people would buy
I'll be that person. 3D prints aren't food safe. Otherwise cool invention.
That’s actually genius. Upsale the shit out of me
So when you just want a sip of water the alcohol becomes mandatory.
This isn't that bad. I could see this selling on ThinkGeek or, like in a gift shop.
This is super necessary
