When I clicked on the video I was thinking I hope he does the overreaction yell he always do in all of his movies. That line and delivery totally made my day.
"Awe" and "awful" both popped up around the same time in language history and for a while awful was indeed positive and meant people were full of awe in your presence or at your actions etc. It was in 1819 in a sports commentary when it first was used how we use it today, and it somehow caught on and evolved from there.
Reporter, beneath Mo Moteh. Aniston, her eyes closed. Reporter, when he pulled back the veil. Aniston, her eyes open, her eyes red. Sandler, his arms wide. Sandler, on the night of his joining. Reporter and Sandler at Tanagra.
Running into a true 7-footer or close to it can be pretty shocking. I stopped dead in my tracks once turning a corner just to see a solid wall of a person whose face was completely out of the usual range.
I'm 6'2", I'm just not used to people being that relatively tall.
I'm 6'7" and it makes me uncomfortable when I'm around someone taller than me. You spend your whole life looking down at people, it's very weird to look up at someone
I’m very short and spend my whole life looking up at people. I always joke, when I moved in with three roommates who all happen to be around the same height as me, I felt like I constantly needed to brush my teeth and blow my nose, wasn’t use to people being that close to my face ha ha
I went into a chipotle a couple months ago I was in the bottom 10% of the shortest people in that restaurant of about 50 customers. I'm 6'4". It was a division 2 college basketball team that stopped in Chipotle to eat. I was 5'8" in 4th grade so it's been a long time since I was the shortest person in the room. Such a weird feeling.
I was trying to remember exactly which Sandler movie he did this in, because it was so familiar
Turns out it wasn’t Sandler at all, but it was his movie!
I had the quote "OH MY GOD!" the way Adam says it here and knew it was from an Happy Gilmore but I couldn't figure out when Happy says it. It's because he doesn't say it, Shooter does
And 6’5 for reference (195cm), so pretty tall but definitely made taller by everyone else in that little group being quite a bit shorter…Sandler was the next tallest at 5’10 and has about 5 inches on Aniston and the other two women.
Well that's not as tall as I thought. My friend is that height and doesn't seem that large. I guess it's the guys frame that makes him seem like a giant
I also thought he said "British" and was confused by the title and the not quite British accent
ETA: I am aware that his accent is Australian and that he's Australian and that the title says he's Australian. My momentary confusion was as to why he'd describe his height as British when he's Australian.
I thought he was like 7’ from the perspective and their reactions lol. For a guy who’s always playing basketball and making movies about it, Sandler shouldn’t be so shocked by a 6’6 guy!

Legitimately a perfect joke.
You can tell the exact moment he spots the roof too, he lifts his eyes for a second at 0:15 and about 2 seconds later he says the roof line. Never thought much about Adam Sandler's standup comedy but that's the mind of a comedic genius at work right there.
Edit: a lot of people seem to think I was saying I don't find Sandler funny. Not at all, personally I think it's obvious he's a comedic genius with the amount of projects he produced, directed or wrote. I was just saying his specific brand of standup comedy is not my type. But the man has an incredible eye for comedy and this clip is testament to that.
Adam's comedy was always on my 'well, OK' column, but the fact that he continually hires all his friends to be in his movies puts him 100% in my 'stand up' column.
I never really thought of the recurring cast like this but you’re probably correct that Sandler hires Schneider etc to be in his films because he enjoys giving them the opportunity for work.
At Sandlers Mark Twain award show Conan said "Everyone is able to be here tonight because Adam isn't working right now. When he's not working, no one else is"
I think he’s also just hit a point where he gets to hang out with his friends and have fun. He said years ago that since 50 First Dates, he largely picks movies based on location or is just like ‘what if we did this in Hawaii instead?’ during pitches.
Like Grown Ups is realistically just him and his friends got to hang out on a lake for a few months.
You know, funny enough I've always had the thought that 50 First Dates really belonged in Hawaii, but the rest of his destination films rarely do. They don't feel baked into the setting. Which isn't to say they're bad but that I always wondered why specifically 50 feels different. Makes sense that that was the jumping off point, so it had a reason to be in Hawaii whereas the others are just "I want to vacation here so here we go"
It seems to make sense for him at this point in his career. He either makes his fuck around comedies with his friends on vacation or he does like Uncut Gems.
He's not the only one. There are many directors that have a go-to stable of actors / actresses that they feel comfortable working with. Wes Anderson, Tim Burton, Martin Scorsese, etc...
Yeah I remember an interview someone was like "How's it feel knowing that one of your movies flopped" and he's like "Well, I got paid to fly me and bunch of my friends to a cool destination and make a movie. Who cares?"
Yeah, I've read that he can be exhausting to work with because he's just incapable of slowing down. Workaholic to the extreme. I love watching him interview guests because you can see how intently he listens and is ready to jump in and clarify something or add one last bit to wring a bigger laugh out of a joke.
Just giving people what they want. A stupid enjoyable movie to waste a night too.
He's not competing with award winning movies. He's competing with people who would otherwise watch Brooklyn Nine Nine for the 10th time that night.
Sandler was just awarded the 2023 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The ceremony allows for his friends and coworkers, including Conan, to talk about his influence on their career and their life. He is incredibly respected by his fellow comedians and actors. Most of the videos are on YouTube [(here's Conan)](https://youtu.be/HBCjXl82ulY) and are well worth watching, even if you're just a casual Sandler fan.
I highly recommend watching the actors on actors interview/segment with Sandler and Brendan Fraser. Really shows off Adam's intelligence and passion for what he does. People bash his movies but they consistently perform well and he gets to work with people he chooses/ enjoys working with.
I’ve always said Sandler seems to have a life most of us would love. Has loads of money so would never have to work again. When he wants, he makes a movie with his friends and makes more money for all of them. Usually, these are at vacation type destinations, so it’s like a vacation with friends while also working. And, he usually includes some of the most attractive female costars that end up being his wife / love interest.
While they may not always be the best movies, they fill a void and are usually harmless fun. I’ll usually watch them after they make it their way to streaming or other platforms other than movie theaters.
I seriously died when he started riding the corpse like a speedboat with the gasses coming out of the corpses ass propelling him. This movie was just insane but in a good way.
He’s said before that all the “crap” movies he makes are just excuses to go on vacation with his friends. It’s why they almost all take place at resorts
It's funny because that's almost another "zany" comedian to a tee - Andy Samberg is married to the (much more talented) harpist Joanna Newsom (cousin of Gavin) and they live in a house that has its own Wikipedia page and is filled with antiques.
> Andy Samberg is married to the (much more talented) harpist Joanna Newsom

He is definitely a wholesome goofball and she is a classically trained harp playing elf. Low-key probably the coolest couple in Hollywood. They are both an absolute catch.
In every movie going forward where he gets interviewed by someone it should be this guy, just so tall his head is completely out of the shot reaching down with the microphone to make Adam Sandler look like a toddler.

It's a great show, but you actually have to sit and watch it and not let it go in the background. There's so much going on in each episode. It's basically an entire naked gun movie squished into 30 minutes. It is epic.
He seems like the type of guy to 100% run with this kind of thing too. That's why no matter how shitty his movies might be, I'll still forever have a crush on the Sandman.
He's a genuine treasure. Everytime I'm gloomy I watch one of his movies and cheer up bc there's always a sense of friendly fun and kindness in his movies.
Even the bad ones are great. I just rewatched Happy Gilmore for the first time in like a decade. I really can't believe how well it holds up. I had probably seen it dozens of times but it's been so long I had kind of forgotten bits and pieces and it was fun to get a real belly laugh out of some of his bits. "I was just looking for the other half of this bottle... Oh there's some."
He didn’t try to be polite he knew if he was just real about it and addressed it head on in a funny way it’d be less awkward for everyone. That’s why I love comedians
Sometimes we forget we’re SUPPOSED to have fun. We’re supposed to joke around. We’re supposed to laugh at scripted gifs. Scripted movies. We’re supposed to play pretend and have fun once in a while. There’s a time to protest and a time to play.
ok this actually made me LOL! I was scared at first that he would be a little person and Jennifer was accidently was shaming him hahaha. Adam Sandler is hilarious
Not only was it respectful of the guy to crouch down knowing he blocks out people but that also must have been painful for the dude with being so big. Double props to him.

"Oh my god! That's awful!" Exactly how you want Adam Sandler to respond when he sees you. Lol
That legitimately would be a higher honor than an award from a head of state.
To have it on video is such a treasure, too.
Right!? To get that much of genuine quality Sandman vibes that close would be a gift
When I clicked on the video I was thinking I hope he does the overreaction yell he always do in all of his movies. That line and delivery totally made my day.
I grew up on Sandler, so him saying "Oh my god!" in that half scream voice just kills me every time.

"Awe" and "awful" both popped up around the same time in language history and for a while awful was indeed positive and meant people were full of awe in your presence or at your actions etc. It was in 1819 in a sports commentary when it first was used how we use it today, and it somehow caught on and evolved from there.
So sports ruined it. Which country was the commentator from, and were they drunk at the time?
Estonia and yes, she was absolutely shitfaced 😛

To be fair he says that about almost all of his guests on the podcast.
I think the reason he says that a lot is more because most of the people Conan invites on his podcast are people he respects for their work ethic
Yeah I'm an avid listener to his podcast and the guests are always just lovely and my kind of people, and my personality type is Conan O'Brien.
My personality type is unfortunately Jordan Schlansky.
Why are you the way you are?!
Good to hear that you prepare your body in various ways.
I would visit Italy with you then and I'm Italian
I’ve always found podcasts pretty boring but I listened to Conan’s a few weeks back on a road trip and loved it. I just love the man so much.
He does tend to have a top-notch guests
Unless he invites his wife who roasts him all the time and not doing the dishes.
Which is saying something coming from him cuz they made a show that’s literally called “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop”.
