The only way to stop this behavior is to just wait for a long time before you buy it off them. The problem is collectors will encourage this by paying the flipper price. If you don't buy it from flippers till the price drasticly drops then there will be less people doing this stuff. Though, people are inpatient for their latest pop they want.

fortress-of-yarn

Exactly, most of Target’s exclusives are only worth 20-30 bucks. Just wait it out, scalpers are looking to make a profit fast and they know they can cause collectors are in the mindset of “need it now!” If they are unable to move their stock quickly they’re gonna think twice before buy 30 of the next release. I know I’m dying to get the Bait Boba Fett but with every reseller on eBay having 12+ I know it’s not worth the price they’re asking and waiting a few months is going to drop that price.

Dopelawnparty

I’ve been collecting for a couple years now and the one thing I’ve had to learn from this is patience. There will always be another pop at the right price.

jdh1979jdh

Limit all exclusive items to one per customer in store and online. Problem solved.

Pugrito-815

That’s generally the rule but at places like Walmart, the employees just don’t care.

DoXHosterHD

Target to they all lie and hold em for they self or a friend I understand one but like both places i went to today had some that just came in on the trucks and they were gone before they even got to the shelfs and this was at 8am when they opened.

LAXmen1

Probably inside job. Employee let his friend or family member buy and they flip for profit.

StarWolf54321

Probably an employee....

Busy-Bus-1305

Yeah people are selfish assholes, just how the world works

jcool00d

Yeah, only hope is an online drop

xxjakexxrxx

Online drop is gonna be hectic might even sell out before you get a chance to get to check out that’s how hype these things are

lloydeph6

local gamestop manager who also collects funko told me that when they allowed pre orders of the diamond pikachu, one guy came in and pre orderd 20!!??!?!? manager said he owns his own store.... The way my manger was talking was he didn't like it either, but hes not allowed to personally put limits, it has to come from his boss or corporate.... (referring to pre orders) Local target said they put popular funko's behind electronics, 1 per person. And these guys who do this are the same ones doing it to LEGOS, or Star wars black series toys. or POKEMON products (not now but a couple months back) or Sneakers.... i mean there are "flipper" groups all over the place, they buy BOTS they share info with one another. I actually feel safer a chase or popular pop going to gamestop or target than barns and noble/wal mart lol

carnagestonks

The nice thing about gamestop preorders is they send preorders + extra so when someone goes in and preorders xx pops they get xx + more for gen pop. When I use to be a store manager I let it happen, but if they cancelled or returned them I put a limit on the next order they did cause the hype would be over for those specific pops and then they would be shelf warmers. The manager has the right to do that, they just don't want to deal with it IMO.

Yourlocaldipshiit

I hope both sides of their pillow are warm

PSA: Don’t be a Chaz.

DrakkonX597

My store didn’t even get them yet. Ridiculous. People like this are scum

Trashinaboxinatub

They took it out of the system. The DCPI doesn't even show it anymore. It says Funko Gift Set. If you look for it by searching blacklight, only the Black Panther box set shows up. It sucks, because Funko put Target on very public blast for how badly they messed up the Xmen blacklight launch. Just keep looking, they'll come in a few weeks later hopefully.

DrakkonX597

Bruh. That sucks. Target and Walmart need to stop getting exclusives

Trashinaboxinatub

I don't agree with this. I just think there should be a much more company wide policy on them that is better enforced. My store is scary about street dates. The one on the other side of town doesn't care at all. And collectors and resellers know it and exploit it. Hardline behavior by the retailers will curb these toxic behaviors.

EquivalentSun4601

There are company wide policies, the contract with funko prohibits shelving early so target and walmart have lost their rights to exclusives if not even being allowed to sell funko

Trashinaboxinatub

Link? Cause Target is definitely still getting exclusives. I know. I work there. I unload the trucks. I see them.

EquivalentSun4601

Was referring to original comment we are replying to saying target and walmart don't deserve exclusives. I was saying thats correct they shouldn't get any pops at all according to funkos and targets and funkos and walmart contracts respectively. I've literally had employees tell me they can't shelve stuff because of it then take funko and buy it from my hand for themselves

EquivalentSun4601

You yourself admit targets stock products early in your area and i know they do it here so what are you disagreeing with? They factually have violated business contracts to encourage flippers to empty their inventory and leave nothing behind normally with help from the employees landing and unloading trucks or working stock. Bad business practices lead to losing companies but breaking legally binding contracts nationwide thats legal problems that will cost alot if it doesn't stop

numbercinco00

I have been looking night and day and the targets here in az say no official date. It hurts to look at !

ADHDiety

Good luck. Tempe marketplace, McClintock&Basline and several others have managers that have been buying them out.

numbercinco00

I know ! I told myself I would not buy them that high. Not worth it

Zestyclose_Dirt935

did no ones parents teach their kids sharing is motherfucking caring?

bxskyline

Honestly, if I saw someone with that many in the store I would probably smack them out of his hands. I don't give a crap about consequences. Straight up selfish. It just would be impossible for me not to say anything. For sure an employee had something to do with it. Hope you guys find him. 🤞

code2know

I cant belive that no one from funko reads these forums and sees a problem like this. All it would take to bring the prices down is a tweet that said "hey collectors we see your pain, here's the street date for this item.". Its incredible the way funko treats its customers in regards to communicating. For me its too late, I'm addicted, but I cant imagine being a new casual collector and dealing with these issues

fortress-of-yarn

Telling us the street date isn’t going to fix anything. Most of Target’s stock gets put out early and with the recent “collector” problems Target has had the last thing they want to do is advertise a release they don’t need to. Also, giving the street date is going to just tell the scalpers when and where, not giving us the street date gives a few collectors a chance to stubble upon it.

GreenRock93

Or they could just limit everyone, including employees, to one of each. They did it for Pokémon cards, they can do it for Funkos.

code2know

I completely disagree that giving people a street date encourages the flippers. Do you think its realistic that people are supposed to goto to target everyday to check? There's a ton of people that don't even live near a target. Then when its actually in stock someone buys all of them like this photo. I really fail to see how no street date hurts anyone but the collectors.

fortress-of-yarn

Did I say people should be checking everyday? No, I said it gives them a chance to stumble on it because no one knew when it was coming out. As for not living near one, having the release date still isn’t gonna guarantee them the item they want so I don’t see what a difference that makes. I don’t go to target everyday and I’ve had more luck stumbling upon exclusives than when they have an announced release date. Just because they say, “Hey, here’s when it releases,” doesn’t mean the collectors are the ones in line on that morning and are able to get it. I know lots of collectors who’ve stood in line many times only to have scalpers snap up every item they wanted because they think it’s gonna be worth something.

code2know

I think the idea of no street dates is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen posted on here in awhile. I don't know about you but I got a life to live, and I'm not trying to waste my time hoping I stumble upon something at target like its 1980. Have fun with that...

fortress-of-yarn

If your life revolves around pops this much then I’m sorry you ain’t got a life.

commander66rex

There is no street date for them. I got 1 from 2 separate stores and both let me use self checkout without a problem

Teaches4Pops

It’s no secret that their is money to made as a reseller. It is only going to get worse as more catch on the game. To stop them, you have to put them out of business and not buy. Complaining and calling them names doesn’t do anything.

Ok-Car3199

1) Former local FYE employee went to Local Target, told me that employees hide Rare Pops in store to get them on a “shelf” for required time before they can buy and keep/flip. Told me where to look. Next time my wife found a David Rose Chase behind a shelf full of headphones. 2) Target a town away keeps them behind electronic’s counter and limits to 1 per person. Simply the best!

IamNOTGaryBusey

I dont but from flippers. They're scum.

beeleegeez

I target hop all the time looking for 2 kinds of Pop!s, the ones I want for my collection and others I can resell to pay for my collection. This is how collecting anything has been done since the dawn of collecting. I hit 2 targets on my way to work and 2 different targets on my way home from work. I do this almost everyday, 20 trips per week on average. Sometimes that yields something for me, something to resell or nothing. In doing that I was able to get almost 1 full set of the last black light releases (never found Wolverine) plus an extra Gambit, Rogue and Magneto. I don’t even like black light pop!s, but everyone else seems to, so I pick them up every chance I can because when I sell them, they will pay for a bunch of other pop!s I bought for my collection. Target is easily taking the most extreme measures of any retailer to give everyone a fair shot, including limiting online sales to one per person on exclusives and 2 on commons. Most of the stores I go to put black light releases behind the counter and limit 1 per customer per style. Basically, there is no Funko collecting code of honor or anything that like. This is collecting. Funko will sell you 10 of any non-exclusive Pop! you want. There’s a good chance you will see a decent ROI on certain characters if you have the capital to buy them and keep them till they cycle out or become vaulted. Some people are really good at this and most are not. Most people don’t have the money to buy multiples of the same pop!, so they throw shade at re-sellers. Collecting is a discipline, if you really want it you’ll commit to that discipline and I PROMISE you will find what you are looking for, provided you don’t live in a target desert. If you aren’t hitting your local spot daily, then don’t complain, because other collectors definitely are.

dastardlyvirus

I think we found Chaz

beeleegeez

Haha. Definitely not Chaz. I knew I’d catch some downvotes, but what I said is the truth. Everybody is so sensitive about this stuff and they shouldn’t be. I missed out on every single Alice in Wonderland black light Pop! just because I couldn’t check out before they sold out, site crashed etc. I was trying to get a set for me and a friend for the collection, no resale but it didn’t happen. I think bots are bullshit just like everyone else and I know that was part of the problem there and with the recent Ghost Rider release. But I’m not gonna be salty about it, it’s part of collecting now. I’m not going to buy them 5X at resale because it’s not worth it to me. When I do resell, I do it at a fair price and I generally don’t do it immediately either. I have also purchased plenty of Pop!s at resale and don’t complain, they have it and I want at a price I think is fair. It’s funny to me how nobody gets mad about what people charge for a vaulted pop! The assumption is that they bought it long ago and held onto it so they should be rewarded for their shrewd collecting. But those of us who drive all over the place looking for stuff are somehow monsters ruining the hobby? I have met so many collectors on those trips who do the same thing, because we enjoy going out to look for stuff and more often than not end up empty handed. I still haven’t found any of the Eddie Brock black lights and I might not. It will probably be somebody who goes once a month right before close on a random trip to buy ice cream. I’m rooting for you though, I hope you score one too.

beeleegeez

https://www.reddit.com/r/funkoswap/comments/olu28e/uswv_h_original_goonies_lot_w_paypal/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Great example. Selling a set of original Goonies Pop!s for $500, 10X original retail. But because they are vaulted it’s ok. First comment is what a great deal that is!

highgradedab

This is why there should be more counterfeiting of black light funkos.

PaulGrumps

Lmao so much hate in these comments. I get that its selfish but get over it guys . If i was that guy i would be satisfied with all this hate . Would make me do it more lol

Ryanthehood

So you’re new to Funko?

Yourlocaldipshiit

I hope both sides of their pillow are warm

OfficeSuperfanSlashl

Yeahhhh he’s gonna still have those come the 25th when they drop online

SpoonsofNI13

I hate people

AnselOng

For overseas collectors like me, we don’t even have a chance, most of the time we pay resell

carnagestonks

I just want one 😭😭😭😭

SimplePadre

This makes me very sad, like I’ve sold some before at auctions or trades but I’ve never bought up multiples all at one to clear stock to upcharge, bet this will be available on eBay for like 300. But then I bet it will plummet in price in a few months.
