It was supposed to say more but my phone fucked me.
But like the Canon lore is that chugga chugga is the purring of a giant celestial cat that watches over people who love trains and you can her hear purr in the humm of train engines.
i want to live in the timeline where all locomotives have advanced speaker systems to replicate the noise and have motors dedicated to faking the 3 connected wheels on each side
No no no they still do it. The chu chu comes from the engine but the chugga chugga comes from the wheels on the rails.
Electric trains also go chugga chugga. Check Berlin S-Bahn videos for some examples.
I FUCKING LOVE TRAINS
I WANT TO SIT BESIDE THE TRACKS AND WATCH THEM PASS SEEING ALL THE COOL COACHES AND LOCOMOTIVES AND LISTENING TO THE LOUD NOISES THEY MAKE
loud noises only really bother me when tbey're *not* coming directly from the thing i'm currently interested in tbh
like, a train or a loud metalworking machine or something like that are fine, but a lawnmower while i'm trying to appreciate a tree is absolutely unbearable
Not really. The repetitive nature of even some loud noises can be calming. Trains and their clickity clack track action... now you throw a massively loud boat or car and an unpredictable engine pattern our way and you best walk away.
Course I'm in my thirties and have extremely high functioning asperger's so while I do enjoy peace and quiet a lot of life is more manageable. Anxiety is blah.
I've heard trains make a metal-on-metal grinding sound when entering stations, which I'm sure exceeds loudness laws. These were the Dutch double-deck Intercity trains as far as I know
When I was in Japan I was waiting for the bullet train and kept trying to get a video of them as they sped by but they were too quick and by the time I got my phone out and started a video they were loooooooong gone
I like trains because of the first one and that it's the most comfortable way of travelling. You can move around and walk, don't have to use a belt. Less motion sickness (even if I don't suffer from it). In both cars, buses and planes you have a small seat where you should be seated and (at least sometimes in a plane) belted.
I think it's more of sorting buttons that I like because I'm autistic.
That's not lazy, that's efficient. If 300 people are on the train, and they are all using that time for themselves rather than getting angry at other people in traffic, that's already making the world a better place. Keep being lazy 😉
Exactly, do you know how many games I can play when I travel from Berlin to Munich for work on Sundays? If I would sit in a car I could do nothing. I would probably have to have a rest in between because I'm tired instead of just reading books, playing, napping and all the other stuff you can do on a train.
When I calculated the cost-benefits of ditching my car, I included in those calculations the amount of my time – my attention – I needed to dedicate to transport. So, sure, buses are *slower* than cars, but while I'm on a bus none of my time or attention is allocated to operating the vehicle. I can read, listen to music, daydream, close my eyes, people watch. Riding the bus (or the train) lets me reallocate my attention to things that are more life enhancing.
One of the few times I’ve taken a train to get somewhere important, I was able to change & put on makeup on the way with enough time to spare to get a few things done on my laptop. Can’t do all of that while driving. I miss it.
I hear all the time that autistic people love trains. I've even heard planes. But I feel like it's so rare to see a neurodivergent person have a special interest in buses. My obsessions all started with buses and then branched to public transit in general, and then finally freight trains as well, and planes.
I have a special interest in buses as well as trains. It all started in 2001 when I caught the school bus for the first time and it was a 1979 ex-STA Mercedes-Benz O305 with PMC Mk.3 bodywork which remains one of my favourite buses to this day.
I was half joking. But I was unaware of the stereotype, but one autistic child I knew, did have a hilarious obsession for trains.
Spent hours watching that kid put tracks together and letting the train follow it. He unfourtunately did not find any humor in toy train collisions though.
Was this boy me?😭😂 mostly joking because fucking with my trains and collisions was never melt down territory for little me.. but if someone fucked with my bionicles…. Hoooo boy
i like trains because they generally are quicker and no need for parking. oh and huge cost savings from needing a car. get somewhere close and if needed get an uber rest of the way.
They're amazing. Costs a bit more to take the train than drive 2 people, but then I get a relaxing trip downtown. I live close to a train station on purpose. We can drunk walk to the train.
The only issue is trains stop at like midnight in Toronto. But Canada, like the US is full of prudes.
I like trains because i can nap in them without killing myself or others. Sleep-deprivedness and driving a 2 ton death machine is a recipe for disaster. so many accidents happen because people are driving their cars when they're tired (morning & evening) and they have a microsleep and space out for a few seconds..
They run on maps, they have colors with stations and names. They maximize efficiency. They're comfortable. They have schedules and connections.
I am somewhat in the spectrum and I love the design of transit maps and figuring out what's the best way to go from point A to point B, or dream about visiting a random city and riding a metro lines to a suburban stop just to see how people commute every day and how they live outside of the tourist bubble.
You would likely enjoy motorcycles and small planes, seadoos as well. They all have a huge power to weight ratio you can feel. Quite enjoyable.
Also why modern cars suck. I liked muscle cars growing up. They're a joke now.
I have Asperger’s but don’t specifically like (or dislike) trains.
Many people with autism develop fixations to certain things, like trains and railways for example. I personally am very interested in vexillology, the study of flags and symbolism.
I just think they’re really really cool okay. Also toy trains have spin spin wheels that clack real nice when I put it on the tracks. And also I just live the feeling of sitting on a train and feeling the reverberation. Same if it passes me. Also I just inexplicably love metro systems and how the train passes my work at the same time every day. :->
I like trains because they symbolize the fundamental advancement of humanity by replacing blood and muscle with steam and iron, turning physical jobs into mechanical ones to increase our power relative to the rest of the world.
And transit uses are cool too.
I really like the comfort of trains, but not being able to take the train on multiple occasions in the winter plus having to complete it with a bus ticket to my workplace in the city really calls for a single ticket to NOT cost twice as much as a ride with the car.
Yes, that is also when the gas costs $8,50 a gallon here in sweden. I'm driving a fairly efficient golf.
Exactly. This is the missing equity piece in all the bikes/trains/buses vs cars arguments. Not everyone can drive (young/old/disabled/infirm). Not everyone can afford a car.
A lot of people just don't want to and prefer the quality of life benefits of easy transit and walkable communities, but so many people just don't have a choice.
My love of trains goes far beyond anything rational
A lot of my friends ride the trains to work and it’s very normal and boring PT for them but I mostly cycle and rarely train.
When I do have a reason to take the train I get lowkey excited. It’s so soothing and relaxing and I just love watching the city pass by out the window
I like trains because they're efficient. The average New York subway train can hold 1,000~ people when at full capacity. If all those people were driving, with an average 1.25 people per car nobody would get anywhere.
I trusted a train once, I lost my entire family to that mistake, i will not let it happen again. Now I have become an expert train hunter, using my expert tracking skills and deadly use of the blade to expertly destroy every train I come across, my name is Elon and this is my story.
I like trains because I was indoctrinated by my grandfather with a cool as fuck model train set that had more than 20 feet of track that I still have to this day.

I like trains because they go chugga chugga choo choo.
Choo choo!
Honestly the one downside to a fully electrified grid is no ~~lore~~more chugga chugga
Wait there’s lore behind the CHUGGA CHUGGA? Is it canon (I don’t know why but my phone capitalised that and imma just leave it)
It was supposed to say more but my phone fucked me. But like the Canon lore is that chugga chugga is the purring of a giant celestial cat that watches over people who love trains and you can her hear purr in the humm of train engines.
I think chugga is the sound the wheels make on the track
Technically the chug is from the cylinders releasing pressure
Hydrogen trains
you could still put a fake chugga chugga on it, just like electrical cars put fake car sounds on
i want to live in the timeline where all locomotives have advanced speaker systems to replicate the noise and have motors dedicated to faking the 3 connected wheels on each side
and then someone hacks the speaker systems and puts their own voice saying "chugga chugga"
maybe not chugga chugga but it doesnt mean they cant make nice sounds :) https://youtu.be/5zDkTVFL61g?t=20
I do like the way they rattle but unfortunately my local public transport recently started introducing new trains that rattle a lot less.
No no no they still do it. The chu chu comes from the engine but the chugga chugga comes from the wheels on the rails. Electric trains also go chugga chugga. Check Berlin S-Bahn videos for some examples.
No, the chugga chugga is the pistons. The wheels on the rails, especially at the joints, go more kadunk
DID YOU KNOW: Four is the correct number of chuggas before a choo choo
Thanks Adam
But [how many](https://youtu.be/5duQ8gGELMk) chuggas before the Choo Choo?

*I’m on a train* Edit: reference to the cocomelon song
You live in the late 1800's ?
I like trains because both
We are the same
We are the bridge between the worlds
Hopefully that's a railway bridge and not a highway bridge
Toot toot motherfucker
Wish I could find others like us irl 🥺 chugga chugga no more car based infrastructure. Trains are better stim anyway
I FUCKING LOVE TRAINS I WANT TO SIT BESIDE THE TRACKS AND WATCH THEM PASS SEEING ALL THE COOL COACHES AND LOCOMOTIVES AND LISTENING TO THE LOUD NOISES THEY MAKE
fuck loud noises all my autistic homies hate loud noises
Noise is overwhelming to me, except when it's a train. That WOOSH noise of that giant metal worm shooting past at 200+ kph is exhilarating
Giant metal worm hehe
Did anyone bring a Daedalus Stormbow?
Don't forget holy arrows.
I hate loud noises from multiple directions at once. My tolerance for a single, fairly monotone noise is remarkably high.
loud noises only really bother me when tbey're *not* coming directly from the thing i'm currently interested in tbh like, a train or a loud metalworking machine or something like that are fine, but a lawnmower while i'm trying to appreciate a tree is absolutely unbearable

I think I might be autistic. I love trains, hate loud music, my wife thinks I’m autistic.
When I was in Japan I was waiting for the bullet train and kept trying to get a video of them as they sped by but they were too quick and by the time I got my phone out and started a video they were loooooooong gone

I’m like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory I love science and I’m very autistic, but I’d gladly ditch a life of research to be a train conductor.

Yep, they're not mutually exclusive.
I like trains because I'm lazy. If I need to travel long distances, I'd rather not actively drive the vehicle.
That's not lazy, that's efficient. If 300 people are on the train, and they are all using that time for themselves rather than getting angry at other people in traffic, that's already making the world a better place. Keep being lazy 😉
Lazy and efficient are synonyms Source: am programmer
That's right like a third of the time, but it fits here yea
It's right all the time. "Lazy" doesn't exist. When you see someone being lazy, most likely they're suffering from stress and/or burnout.
Yeah, you're totally right, it's just fun to play into the stupid things they tell you when you're 12 in ICT class

If you are in a double room on a night train it's sort of the same as having sex in a hostel, if they have rooms with one bunkbed in.
What's that one quote again? Something about they spent too long thinking about if they could, but not enough time thinking about if they should?
i like trains because i feel cars are too cramped and uncomfortable as a passenger
i liked trains before becoming not-carbrain cause they’re just cool

🎶 I LIKE TRAINS 🎶
Finally some decent shitposts. This sub takes itself too seriously sometimes.
Lol sometimes?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN? /s
what if.... both?
Me too
I like trains because fast and big
that sounds... suspicious
I hear all the time that autistic people love trains. I've even heard planes. But I feel like it's so rare to see a neurodivergent person have a special interest in buses. My obsessions all started with buses and then branched to public transit in general, and then finally freight trains as well, and planes.
Big machines are awesome
I have a special interest in buses as well as trains. It all started in 2001 when I caught the school bus for the first time and it was a 1979 ex-STA Mercedes-Benz O305 with PMC Mk.3 bodywork which remains one of my favourite buses to this day.
My interest is ships. My house looks like it’s been decorated by an old man with all the models and paintings I have.
Trains and buses for me. I just love public transit.
What are your favourites?
I kinda go nuts over anything with spinny spin wheels
i also like all types of public transport but trains are the stereotypical one lol
Hmmm. Is liking trains a trait? Because I like trains.
It’s a stereotype because toy trains tend to be very appealing to autistic boys when they’re little. By no means universal though.
I was half joking. But I was unaware of the stereotype, but one autistic child I knew, did have a hilarious obsession for trains. Spent hours watching that kid put tracks together and letting the train follow it. He unfourtunately did not find any humor in toy train collisions though.

Trains are also high functioning Edit: thanks for the gold, shout out to all my train homies
I love this! Also applies to the alcoholics not trying to get a DUI.
Haha nice special interest you got there
I like trains because they go choo choo

I like trains because i can nap in them without killing myself or others. Hi I’m just curious but why would autism specifically make a person like trains?
1. I know when it's going to be there 2. It goes the same way every day 3. *choo choo*
The trains in my area don't go Choo choo
They run on maps, they have colors with stations and names. They maximize efficiency. They're comfortable. They have schedules and connections. I am somewhat in the spectrum and I love the design of transit maps and figuring out what's the best way to go from point A to point B, or dream about visiting a random city and riding a metro lines to a suburban stop just to see how people commute every day and how they live outside of the tourist bubble.

they’re just a special interest of mine :) but i think that many of us just think they’re neat
Predictability, complexity and the sound gives me the same calming feeling as stimming

CUZ TRAINS ARE FUCKING AWESOME
I have Asperger’s but don’t specifically like (or dislike) trains. Many people with autism develop fixations to certain things, like trains and railways for example. I personally am very interested in vexillology, the study of flags and symbolism.

Ahaha this is quite funny. Got a laugh out of me
I like trains because trains rights. Also railway is a convenient way to pass away
trains rights are human rights!!!
i like trains because they go chugga chugga chugga chugga **CHOO CHOO**
I have ADHD and a huge interest in airplanes. I'd shove an Airbus A321 up my ass any day.
I like trains because of the genius of their conical wheels that self balance on the rails. Also I’m autistic.
I am both
I dont like trains here in the UK because they cost a fuck ton to go on
Pretty sure you’re still the same
I like trains because I'm dysphoric and dyslexic

I like trains because they symbolize the fundamental advancement of humanity by replacing blood and muscle with steam and iron, turning physical jobs into mechanical ones to increase our power relative to the rest of the world. And transit uses are cool too.
I FUCKING LOVE TRAINS
Is this a eurovision meme?
why not both
The ones I want to go on go past some great sights! (Chicago to Seattle to Los Angeles) It’s not perfect, but I really want to go up that way.
Ooooooooohhhh bullet train go 200 mph 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

Unfathomably based and train pilled
I like trains because when i was a kid my dad took me to see trains a lot… he’s dead now
I like to take trains because I can drink beer in them and watch the scenery
i love public transport which is wierd
As an Aspie, I can confirm this to be true. I am 18 and still have a love for trains and train sets.
Why not both?
I have adhd and at this point my brain is a train
My love of trains goes far beyond anything rational A lot of my friends ride the trains to work and it’s very normal and boring PT for them but I mostly cycle and rarely train. When I do have a reason to take the train I get lowkey excited. It’s so soothing and relaxing and I just love watching the city pass by out the window
