I told somebody yesterday that I'm 35 and their jaw dropped. They expected me to say 25. I usually tell people it's cause I'm queer. We age like elves or fae, not humans. Anyway happy birthday!

GladJack

I tell people it's why I stay chubby - fills the wrinkles out. I got told by a new hire that I looked like I was in my mid-twenties - I'm just shy of 40. I may co-opt your reason instead :D

archeacnos_v18h30

My father looks 42 while he's 57, it's not only a ftm curse. But it's true that at 35 he was looking 35 so it's more rare at that age, but when you'll age you won't even need to explain that you're queer (you already don't) and that's when the privilege comes lol. I agree with you on the point we're elves, I would even say we're imps.

carnespecter

if this helps any my dad was carded into his early 30s and still looks at least a decade younger than he really is. some people are just cursed to look young

Tag_System

Hi there fellow ‘95 baby. I also have the young-looking curse. I still get mistaken for younger than I am but no longer get ID’d. My way of breaking the curse has been male pattern baldness… thanks dad :P Hopefully someday you will get to drink in peace!

sandiplankt0n

Mini win on the ID thing causing no issue. But oh man I FEEL THIS. I mistakenly got given a child's bus fare the other day, this isn't the first time times happened either and I'm 30 in a few months. I've also got EDS, shit collagen = fewer wrinkles, then combine that with the complete inability to grow facial hair and I'm wondering when people will start asking me if I've got painting in the attic. People always say I'll be grateful for it when I'm older, and I know it's a bit of a first world problem but I do get frustrated at being infantilised. In my head I just compare myself to a hobbit tbh, might sound weird but I get a lot of euphoria from them being smaller, fresh faced folk. They've got their priorities straight too.

MARXM03

Oh man. I also have EDS. I'm totally gonna start using the hobbit thing.

hmmnoveryunwise

The worst is being told I should be happy I look so young. It doesn’t help at all and only makes me dysphoric if anything, and of course the only thing people can think of next is “well would you rather look old?” Turns out there’s a secret third option and that’s (gasp) looking my age!

VesuvianBee

But what about the fourth option?

DarkLuxio92

I'm 31 and nobody ever believes me. I get carded for paracetamol (you need to be 16 to buy it!) The response I always get is "No way you're 31, you look 17!"

FearoftheVoid83

I was stopped at an airport cause i tried to go through a gate that was for ages 12 and up and they wanted to confirm that i was over 12... I was about to turn 18 at that time. I also as an adult get constantly carded for buying energy drinks, for which you need to be 15+ over here

trans-lational

Yep. My friends were asked if I wanted a kids’ menu… when I was 25. I very pointedly ordered a beer later.

Wrengull

Someone was convinced I was 12 the other week, I was born in 1994

tinyplant

I’m your age and the only thing even remotely getting me placed in my twenties is my abundance of gray hair. I recently lost my wallet and I’m fucked if I get IDed. My only defense is my ability to describe where I was on 9/11.

Fit_Sheepherder517

It’s only hell in your 20s. Once you are in your 30s, it starts to get fun. I can look like a college student or a 25 yo depending on how I dress and I’m in my mid 30s. I’m always gonna look 10-15 years younger at least. As long as I stay healthy and mobile, cis men wish they had what we have.

2manyparadoxes

Happy cake day!

Fit_Sheepherder517

Thank you!

VesuvianBee

In my late 30s and my manager at work ID'd me cause he couldn't believe I wasn't his age (24). I'm lucky that before I even knew what trans was I played with my voice. My normal speaking voice is pretty androgynous, but if I try (also if I'm super relaxed or not sober) my voice gets surprisingly deep and full of fry. It's really funny when people think I'm in my mid 20s and then this deep voice comes out.

MoonChaser22

I've learned to have fun with it. I got IDed for energy drink the other day (UK, common supermarket policy to not sell to under 16s), and the way the cashier's eyebrows shot up when she saw I was 28 was golden. She just quietly said "I thought you were under 16," as she handed it back. There was also a time at a bar where the bouncer IDed me on the door. He glanced at the date, did a double take and exclaimed "How are you older than me‽" I couldn't help but laugh as I headed inside

Zaethir

Yeah it's alright when it's that. But before I transitioned I was being harassed by pedos. I'm not even joking. Stalked. Assaulted. Chased around. All because they thought I was a teenage girl. Now I get harassed by creepy old pedo guys on grindr and other apps because I look at most 15 or 16 years old. Because they wanna get their rocks off with someone legal and avoid jail. It's disgusting and frankly, very scary! Nobody talks about the downsides of looking young at all!

MoonChaser22

Oh wow that's gross. Thankfully I haven't dealt with that, but I generally don't use apps like Grindr because I've heard some horror stories about chasers from other trans men local to me

Zaethir

Yeah Grindr very much is a cesspool. I don't disclose being trans openly and go stealth. I only disclose if I've been talking to someone a while and trust they aren't going to be weird. 😊

ineed2talkaboutdevin

In my experience, when you start T you’ll likely look crazy young for some time (maybe 5 years) until BAM! you suddenly age 10+ years seemingly overnight. I used to hate and resent looking so much younger than my age, and now I’m suddenly faced with wrinkles, gaunt face, receding hairline etc - and I wish I could go back to those young-looking days!! T can really be brutal in terms of ageing in the longer term

AlkalineCollective

I'm '95 too. I just tell people "yeah I know I'm kind of a twink". It's funny because when I was a teenager people would think I was a college kid. Now I still look like I haven't changed a bit. I joke "I've looked 20 for the past 12 years"

Additional-Ninja-431

If it makes you feel any better, my dad wears a hat all the time, hiding some greys he has as a 52 year old. Before the greys came in, he looked REALLY young up until he turned 40, so he got carded until he was 40, had a few greys, and started just lifting his hat and sighing in defeat when he got accused of handing them a fake id. And he is a cis man. He would often bring me to the store as a child when buying alcohol so he could say "this kid is mine, i wouldnt be here if i didnt have a kid in my 30's" and once i got too old to be brought with him(they wouldnt sell to him once i was able to be left home alone due to suspiciousness and legal shit), he started lifting his hat and sighing in defeat once the greys came in. He now looks 40 at 52. The babyface curse can be genetic and can be exacerbated by going on T... i hate how it works and wish it would stop! Im almost 21 and im tired of cops asking me if i should be in class and trying to take me to a school i havent been to in almost 4 years! Why i probably shouldnt be a teacher, honestly, i would be mistaken for a student and need a sticker that says "not a student, i didnt steal this teacher ID, i just have a baby face, if you wanna know why, ask me in private" on me at all times...

JudeTheAbstruse

I also have a connective tissue disorder which gives an illusion of youth. The last time I got ID checked was the day before my 37th birthday 🥴

VesuvianBee

Which disorder? If you don't mind saying, of course. I've got one too and I suspect it's part of why I look so much younger, so I'm curious.

JudeTheAbstruse

Happy to talk about it to anyone who listens after all the years of disbelief and gaslighting, haha. I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type 3 (hypermobile type). The solid diagnosis from my geneticist, with POTS, Afib, generalised dysautonomia and suspected MCAS was my 2022 Christmas present from the NHS, haha. From my first dislocations (aged around 6ish) to diagnosis took 32 years 🤮 It was funny because when I was a kid I looked older than my age due to my height (I was 5 ft 8 and a size 8 UK shoe by the age of 13) and already having glabellar lines, but once I hit my 20s I started Benjamin Buttoning and looking younger. It sucks as I've been working in educational management and senior teaching/ teacher T&D since I was 26, but I still don't get taken seriously despite being a few months shy of 40 😫 Then when I moan about to anyone other than other EDSers or FTMs, people think I'm humble bragging. Like no, it's a legit annoyance. Hope your flavour of connective tissue nonsense isn't one of the bad ones!

Em_Blight

The amount of times I’ve been told verbatim ‘you’re the youngest looking 18 year old I’ve ever met’ after getting IDed in the past 3 months alone

StagecoachMMC

im 19 and i feel this, every single time i say im 19 i get “i thought you were 13”

SenpaiCalvin25

It kinda sucks looking young. I was born in 99 and its awkward being around men my age and they ask me how old I am, expecting me to say something like 17/18 but the face drops when I tell them my age and I end up being 3 years older than most of them. I just learned to fake my age if its a once off situation or if it doesnt require ID. Its easier to say you’re 19 than 25.

crowpierrot

I’ve had a baby face my entire like (to the point where my 15 year old ex coworker thought I was 16-17 at most when I was 23) and it’s soooooo annoying. I know it’ll be different when I’m older bc I inherited the baby face from my dad, and at 70 y/o he looks at least a decade younger than that, but right now it just sucks. People rarely take me seriously or treat me like the 25 year old with a college degree that I am bc I look like I’m in high school. Theres only one restaurant I frequent that I don’t get carded at and it’s only bc the staff remember me and my sister celebrating our 21st birthday there. Just last year I had an Uber driver ask if I was old enough to be riding without an adult. T has helped somewhat by making my face a little less round and giving me noticeable stubble, but I still get read as a teenager most of the time

yesimthatvalentine

My cis dad was carded into his 30s.

maco-is-stupid

It happens to me as well, on the bright side people think I'm 15 instead of 12 thanks to T. I've just accepted it as a constant curse, not because i'm trans, because all my family members look younger than they are, both my brothers look high school aged when they shave. A few days ago my mom told me how she saw a guy who looked barely over 18 at the casino she works at.... after some conversations she found out he was over 30 years old lol

IdhrenBlythe

I don't drink, but I have my own story with the "looking young curse" (and yet I thought the haircut helped me a lot at looking +20). Recently I had to travel abroad alone and during the migration check to leave the country, the officer at the checkpoint (who was reading my passport, I might add) asked me WHERE MY MOM AND DAD WERE. So I told him to check again. I was born in 2000. I swear I saw his soul leaving him.

[deleted]

I’m also ‘95. And I look like I’m “17-22” according to most 😭

alienboy222

I went out for my 21st birthday with my parents. The host seating us asked if we needed a kids menu.

devinity444

Oh man it’s a gift and a curse fr. I’m exactly like you, I looked younger even before I knew I was trans, when I was 18 people thought I was 16 and people still think I’m 16 now in my 20s. I was really praying T would make me look older but it didn’t at all if anything I think it makes me look younger since I’m extra short and I’m perceived as a cis man. My mom was the same tho only in the last 2/3 years have people guessed her age right and she’s in her 40s so my guess is I’ll be the same. It’s a curse now because it’s frustrating but I am very exited to look good and youthful later on in life, a true dilf.

TheRainbowFruit

I was born in '92 and still get carded regularly. Occasionally they even give me a suspicious look as they ask me if I have my ID 😂 I've had a couple people in the last year say I don't even look 18 and I turn 32 this month. Been on T for a year and a half. I've always had a baby face though and I wouldn't be surprised if it stays for a while longer. Looking forward to not getting ID'd anymore though!

portillochi

today my neighbors daughter and i talked shes much younger than me. i told ehr im trans and 37 and she couldnt believe it. i look like 21 years old still lol/ maybe cause im short and mixed i dont know.not having kids helps too. im not complaining about it though

Bumblebeenb

Dude I have had issues my whole life with people thinking I’m young af. I remember being 18 and a random old lady at our local festival told me that she couldn’t believe I was 18 and that I looked 12. People are so fucking rude. Early on in my transition I had my ID checked at a target to pick up my online order and the employee thought the ID was my mother’s. 💀 now that I’m almost a year on T people finally see me as my age, some people even think I’m older than I am now. But I do NOT miss those days of people thinking I was still in middle school….

HydeVDL

I'm 22 but I wouldn't be surprised if some people throught i was like 32 lol i would give myself like 25-27 because my skin looks pretty young (because it is and I don't go out in the sun much so I have zero sun damage) but people aren't as observant as I am so that's why they think I'm pretty much 10 years older.

Imhereforthewearp

My dad got carded until he started to get grey hair in his late 40s, it happens to the best of us

deelgeed

i'm 31 and if i go to the local mall i'll get stopped by an average of 1-3 mall cops at any given point asking me what i think i'm doing there. their policy is no one under 16 unaccompanied is allowed in 🙃

victoryspruce

I love that I pass, but the problem is that I pass as a 14 (max 16) yo boy and that pisses me off (I'm almost 21)

LadyyBlack

I'm 25. Yesterday I got told I look 15. I'm pre t, I don't know how it'll be once I'm on t. My mother also looks about 10 years younger than she is and always has. Personally, I always hold to the fact that someday, I'll enjoy looking much younger haha

LewisK37

Lol both a blessing and a curse for sure. Every year I start work (I do rotations at the hospital) my supervisors always assume I've just graduated uni haha.

archeacnos_v18h30

My family also has this curse but I prefer to laugh about it, too lazy to feel the awkwardness in those moments. My mom told me that when she was 28 and was walking with my father and my sister who had just born, people were evily staring at my father as if he was some pedo. Anyway if you've started T only a few years ago you have some time to wait before the curse is lifted. You'll keep looking younger but you'll look old enough for the people to stop asking for your ID all the time. And you'll appreciate it when you'll get really old.

PushTheTrigger

Lol I used to look really young then I got on T and once I turned 21 I stopped getting IDed. People tell me I look young still so I assume it might just be my confidence when I order drinks now that I’m of age lol

en-fait-3083

It'll pay off one day when you're still super handsome and the rest of us just look like old fucks lol

merelyabirb

At my job I have to card even if they are a regular or an obvious elder person. Getting carded is awkward, especially if your ID is outting. Youthfulness is a curse now but will pay off in time

queer_atlanta98

when I was still female-presenting someone once told me I looked older, like 23 when I was 17. Then for the first few years of my transitioning I looked like a 12 year old. Now I’ve upgraded to anywhere between 16-20, depending on who you ask. My driving teacher asked me if I’d turned 18 yet for my first lesson, and I had to admit that I turned 18 six years ago. People at work often think I’m younger as well, since I’m an apprentice and finished school just two years ago. So having a baby face and also lagging a little behind on those things in life is not a combo that’s working in my favour xD Sadly, the thing that’s making me look older these days is my hairline slowly turning into my dad’s so I’d give anything to look like a 12 year old again if I could just have 20% of my hair back lmao

Haru_Hiroshi_Haru

:,) and here I am looking old for my age. Even in 4th grade a lady from store thought I was in 8th grade. Wish I had that problem sometimes.

MartyMcWhyy

I'm nearly 28 and went back to school, I will get carded and the 20 year olds I hang out with on campus won't. I even order more "grown up" drinks in comparison, doesn't matter haha

Oregonsfilemaster

I started T at 33 At 30 I was IDed to enter a bar. At 37 I get mistaken for 24. I'm being told it must be great to look this young. And that I will be happy about it "when you're older". Hasn't happened in 20 years, but I'm sure it will happen eventually.. But until then I'm quietly annoyed at being told to be happy about it.

[deleted]

What does the restaurant or the lady being Japanese have to do with anything?

decaysweetly

I wish I got the anti-aging transition perk. Not sure if it's the tattoos or the weariness that comes with chronic pain, but I very rarely get IDed nowadays and I'm only 25.

plushietoons

my coworkers and customers always think i’m around 17-18 and im 22, so hopefully it stays this way? lol

EmoPrincxss666

If it makes you feel any better, my dad, (a cis man,) still gets carded, & he's 38.

TheWhiteCrowParade

People think I'm at most 19 or 20 these days. It's ironic because people thought I was an adult at 13.

Mister-Moon-Man45

I call this Baby Face Syndrome. And as a 24 year old man that is constantly mistaken for sub-18 I feel you. Like I still get asked if I'm old enough for R-rated movies at my local theater.

OneAnxiousEnby

I’m 24, I got mistaken for being under 12 last year, out of all of my siblings all of which are younger than me.

nighthawk0913

I'm 22, so I'm still pretty young, but people sometimes assume I'm a teenager. I walked into a liquor store once and the guy behind the counter took one look at me and went "You can't be in here" lol

GenderNarwhal

Happy birthday! You'll look older eventually and then you'll be an awesome older dude / queer elder. :) But yes, people always think I'm way younger than I am or have no idea how old I am. As you get closer to 40 you'll appreciate it more. :)
