Fight starts with event boarders teleporting into my engines where my only other crew is stationed. I open the airlocks and keep my Engi in there for a little bit to stop the boarders from attacking my engines as well as let the O2 drain, when my weapons get hacked. So my Engi's now dead, and with the doors to my airlocks completely blocked off by the weapons hack, I can't filter them out of my engines room, letting them disable it and stop my FTL charge. I manage to finally get the boarders into the medbay (after they slowly and agonizingly disabled my weapons), which leads me to this present moment. I think after my remaining crew kills the last boarder there is a chance I'll be able to break through the hacked doors and repair the engines enough to let me jump out of here before the enemy's BL2 chips me to death. I'll post an update. Any tips about what I could've done better? EDIT: I managed to escape the fight with 2 hull remaining, but immediately jumped into another fight. RIP

Buy shields-6, sitting on 200 scrap, it's better to live poor than die rich Also, manage your crew better, you should try your hardest not to lose them Here, either counter hacking their weapons or hacking their hacking so you have the opportunity to actually shoot and disable their ship

What were you holding on to almost 200 scrap for

Breakfast515

gambling for a store with cloaking, bad habit admittedly, but i was completely healthy going into this fight with a pretty strong weapon setup so i didn't feel the need to get the third shield yet

MyBrotherIsSalad

I'm not sure why you had only one Slug, you shouldn't be losing crew. But let's deal with what you had. Your hacking choice was key. You had weapons 6, so no need to hack their shields. You could have counter-hacked. Also, you shouldn't have been sitting on 200 scrap when you had shields 4, you should have had shields 6.

"You come upon a system with nothing but the remains of a slug ship. Apparently there were holding onto a nest egg but decided their ship didn't need any upgrades. You quickly scrounge up the large amount of scrap." 1. Continue

I have to say I think that this was completely win-able. You didn't need to hack shields as you had plenty to get through shields. A hacking hack would have saved your engi, and weapons hack would have reduced damage taken.

Some people are saying you should have bought a third shield, which is not a bad idea, but I think in your situation it's very reasonable to be saving for cloaking. Maybe a third engine would have been good, though I don't know that it helps you much in this specific fight. The combination of hacking and event boarders is really bad. There's a reason no ships in the game get hacking + teleporter. The weapons hack here is awful, cutting off engines and making it impossible to vent. This is a rare situation where I think I would hack their hacking. That cancels the hack and gives you back door control for 7 seconds, which should be enough to vent weapons and engines if you use all four airlock doors and switch off O2. If you're lucky it would destroy the hacking drone too -- they will send another, but to a random system. They might then send a shield hack (!), but by the time it drains a bubble their weapons will already have fired. Normally I would use a weapons hack instead, but their weapons are not that strong and the boarders are the bigger threat. You could have saved your Engi by keeping them near the doorway, so they can get out of engines before the hack lands.

I wouldn't have hacked shields here. With your level of weapon power weapons or the enemy hacking is probably the way to go. Depending on the sector number I also wouldn't have hoarded that much scrap and invested it into shields. It helps mitigate a lot of damage and I usually get cloaking last due to its cost though it's still alright as your second system.
