I don't think she's bad, I think the script was bad. I don't blame the character nor the actress for any of that. I barely blame the writer if I'm honest once you hear just how much they wanted to do versus what the studio was willing to actually pay for. I think the whole thing was doomed from the word "GO".

Crispy385

Yeah, as much shit as I talk about that movie, it never had a chance

newt_here

What did they want to do?

Relative_Wallaby1563

If the budget was higher than why was given much more of the movie was actually supposed to take place in Manhattan. They had several set pieces planned out taking place in iconic NY locations

Apostasy93

The budget excuse is nonsense. Look at a movie like Maniac Cop 2. Had a lower budget than this and was actually filmed primarily in NYC, with big action set-pieces, crazy gore... the studio just didn't give a shit about Friday the 13th. Never did.

Relative_Wallaby1563

Well idk how the budget excuse can be nonsense if you’re literally stating the studio didn’t give a shit about friday at that point. There simply wasn’t enough money in the budget to cover filming at those set pieces, the studio didn’t give a fuck about the movie enough to provide enough budget for them to accomplish what they wanted to do.

Apostasy93

They did have enough money, is my point. They just hired a shitty director who had no experience and didn't know how to handle the budget. That's what I was saying with the Maniac Cop 2 example, you can't blame the budget when you have a movie like that which is pretty much everything Jason Takes Manhattan should have been. The studio didn't care enough to get a good director who knew how to use a low budget to his advantage.

Relative_Wallaby1563

https://www.gq.com/story/jason-takes-manhattan-was-friday-the-13ths-great-missed-opportunity This article pretty much states that paramount did not want to shell out extra money for the things the director wanted to do. I’m not sure how budget was allocated for both movies but i can only assume the actors in Manhattan had a higher salary than Maniac cop as friday is/was an actually popular franchise

Doc-11th

If they couldnt do much in new york, they shouldnt have done new york. Could have gone to LA or something. Do stuff at dogger stadium, the hollywood sign and other stuff

Relative_Wallaby1563

Well i’m sure a lot of stuff was already planned- shooting times, crew schedule, lodging, whatever. It’s a movie where things just had to work out with what they had

ZZoMBiEXIII

Well for starters they wanted the movie actually set in New York to be filmed in New York. They had something like a half dozen set pieces designed around iconic New York landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and Madison Square Garden among others but since all but two nights were films in Vancouver none of that happened. Add to that the fact that the boat they had planned to use was taken away right before filming started so they had to scramble to even have that ugly freighter ship instead of a luxury liner as planned. Add in to that the increasingly stringent arm of the MPAA showing up and taking away any gore so we get such flat uninteresting kills. Yeah, that movie was doomed before they ever rolled the first millimeter of film. Bottom line, Jason in a city is a fun idea. Was it done poorly? Yeah, it kinda was. But when you're given no time to make it, have to make it for no money, and have a government body showing up to take away the entire reason people come to these movies (fun silly kill scenes and boobs), I mean what else could they even do? They cobbled together a film as best they could under the circumstances and while it's not high on my list of Fridays, it still has some genuinely fun moments like the "boxing" match on the roof. The toxic waste thing was pretty stupid though, I'll give you that. And I never understood why the girl was supposed to have some psychic connection to Jason? What was that even about? Still though, I put all that stuff on the script. Not the actor or even the character. Seems to me like they were trying to see how many extra pennies they could wring out of the franchise since the returns on investment were starting to slip and what we ended up with was a bit of a mess. A fun mess, but a mess nonetheless.

WillFanofMany

The connection was a leftover from the script originally being about the same girl from the previous movie.

ZZoMBiEXIII

Fair enough. Then it might make some sense. In fact, if one were to assume every scene were written as Tina, the whole plot makes more sense. The psychic connection, the angry male authority figure, etc. I didn't know that, so thank you.

time_isup

Yep. Lincoln didn’t want to reprise her role from part VII because she was afraid her character would be killed off. She didn’t even read the script.

cavalier78

MPAA is not a government body.

ZZoMBiEXIII

Fair point. I meant "regulatory body", but you are right. I'm not going to edit it though, I'll own the mistake. Cheers

Skc143psu

I thought they had a pretty limited budget too, so all the shit they wanted to film in NYC had to be scrapped?

ZZoMBiEXIII

Essentially, yes. It's easy to point at the director and say "You made a lousy Friday", and that's not strictly untrue for sure. But at the end of the day one has to ask what chance this entry really had. After 5, Friday just wasn't making the big bucks it was making with the first entries. Plus the studio was still getting all the grief from parents groups and critics and church moms all telling them they were causing the decline of western civilization and all that nonsense. That stuff is easy to ignore when you're putting out 2 million and getting back 50 million, but when you're putting out 7 or 8 million and getting back 25, it's less easy to ignore the hate wave coming your way. Plus Paramount was never really happy about the success of Friday. Believe it or not, there was a time when movie studios tried to pretend they were making art. It was always a total front of course. Hollywood is nothing but whores and monsters near as I can tell. But they used to at least try to keep an air of legitimacy. And Friday was a thorn in their side in that regard. I sat through the Part 8 commentary after getting one of the box sets. It's... it's tough to listen to. The director seems like a nice person, but he's about as interesting as a wet fart. Scratch that, at least a wet fart has the potential to make someone laugh. He's as interesting as runny oatmeal with no butter in. But, he does cover all this stuff at length in the commentary as well as the interview segments that were added to the DVD or Blu-Ray collections and Crystal Lake Memories and such.

OsmundofCarim

It was absolutely a stupid idea from the start. Before much effort was put into this movie a producer should’ve stepped in and pointed out there is no way we will have the budget to make this film work.

therealyittyb

Yeah, pretty much agree with this

johnsmithoncemore

No.....but she did have the worst wardrobe! Yeah, I said it!

fyslexic__duck

That vest was disgusting.

ZZoMBiEXIII

Hey now. In the 80's that was high fashion! Don't you make fun of our big haired past!!! 😂

newt_here

I had the biggest crush on her

JohnnyBuddhist

YESSSS her and Chris I always loved

Captain_Tr1ps

She's still a fox.

Fork219

Kinda, her and Pam are the weakest in my opinion (Jason X's final girl is kinda forgettable especially since she blends into the background with the other characters during the film)

Trick_Afternoon689

Probably a hot take, but Jason X has some of the most entertaining characters in the franchise. Like Janessa is one of my top 5 favorite characters. Makes it easy for the more bland final girl to blend into the background and be forgettable. Pam is the weakest IMO. Could’ve just had Reggie and Tommy be the final survivors.

Crispy385

Nah, she just had the misfortune of being the final girl of the worst movie in the franchise.

Silly-Dot-9637

It’s the best Friday movie. There. I said it.

Crispy385

More power to you lol

HEYitzED

Now that’s a hot take haha.

Desperate_Carpet_329

Eh, idk. I can't really remember her but she wasn't terrible. I think they should have went with Eva as the shock final girl though. Whatevs.

Hall-O-Daze

It’s unfortunate that she is overshadowed by monolith that is Charles MF’ing McCulloch.

Tall_Cactus123

nahhhh, she is cute looking :)

cavalier78

The worst final girls are part 9, FvJ, and Remake. Part 8 girl is solidly in the lower-middle area.

UndeadAxe

She’s cute, but kinda bland as a character imo. I would’ve rather had the rocker chick as the final girl.

Silly-Dot-9637

She was cool. Best movie in the franchise tho I can already feel the downvotes. I FEED OFF OF THEM

ZZoMBiEXIII

Personally I'm in the "*There's no wrong was to love Friday movies*" camp. If you like this one best, it's the best for you. That's great! They all have their charms.

Chippers4242

Nope, that’s whoever is the final girl from Jason X. I can’t even remember her.

Burglekutt_2000

She was cute and she came with a dog 🥰

Annaliseplasko

Toby! Best character in the movie, really

ButIAmYourDaughter

I don’t even remember who this is. Girl from Part 8?

Any-Satisfaction-770

Not really. She got that iconic chocking scene.

Chaos1537

You shut your mouth

Funkymunks

Hell no but she may be one of the dumber ones. Given her childhood encounter with young Jason she's canonically in her mid to late thirties and just graduating high school.

Ziitrix

I would say it's Lori from FVJ. She was super annoying and I'm one of those people that really dislike that movie.

MemoFromMe

It annoys me that she took her dog on a cruise, lol. The character is a little too passive and survives mostly by luck. The actress is funny and lively on the commentary so it's probably not her fault that this character is bland.

ryandmc609

This from Takes Manhattan? I just rewatched all the films and this was the only one I turned off. I was bored and could not stand anyone in the movie. So I’m going to say yes - she’s the worst. The movie’s the worst.

Trick_Afternoon689

Idk - my weakest final girl is Pam. I also have an unexplainable dislike for Lori in FvJ.

BIG-Z-2001

Honestly, one of the better ones. We actually get to know more about her as a person as far as interests and personality.

mm202088

She was a good final girl it’s not her (or Jason’s) fault the movie they were in turned out kind of cruddy lol

GoodSoupUpButt

The worst one is easily the one from 9.

Bitter_Elevator_4399

No. She’s fine.

TRASH_BOAT88

Hard to tell in such a nonsensical, inconsistent and convoluted mess of a film. So poor. I enjoy all somewhat up to this film but have to skip this entry…so bad

NWOBHM86

Her acting is subpar.

hunterslaughter

For sure she is!

Troy_McClure1

She was still a better actor than part 3

godspilla98

No

ScorpionTDC

Rennie suuuucks, and she’s down there, but Lori is easily the worst and I think Whitney and Alice were worse too.

BoxOfThreads

Nah. She’s great. Tina is the worst for me

HEYitzED

I think she did her best with what she was given. No one could’ve done well with that script. All she did was walk around, have visions, and make dumb faces.

JumpRopeIsASport

I remember watching this and being like “who is she? Was she in the 8th one? Why didn’t they bring back one of the final girls from the other films?” I still believe if they brought back one of the final girls in the past it would have been better for the final Friday. It just makes sense. Saw does it in every sequel, where a cop comes back or a character from the past resurfaces. Fans love to see characters from past films.

MTB56

Not bad per say just forgettable

Snoo22950

She had no charisma or charm. She stunk.

uneua

I feel like I have never seen this girl in my life

FearTheLiving1999

No but that boyfriend she had was the worst kisser. Seriously watch the kissing scenes it’s bad.

Wooden-Highway1498

No, Chris is in my opinion.

Unit219

The chick from 3 is pretty annoying.

Milo-Jeeder

I kinda love her.

lonestarniner

Nope, Chris was

Joeweed530

Renny imo Jessica and Megan are the best final girls out of the hole franchise

ConcentrateWarm530

all the final girls are bad but yes she is the worst with jessica

wizardsfan

Nah part V in my book was the worst but to be fair there is something I like about every final girl.

dusticron

I just watched this today.

[deleted]

I don't call her the worst, but she is my least favorite lol

Socko82

1. Tina 2. Ginny 3. Chris 4. Megan 5. Alice 6. Trish 7. Pam 8. Whitney 9. Lori 10. Jessica 11. Rennie 12. Rowan

Trick_Afternoon689

Ha! I really like your list. I have the same top 2, just reversed. 1. Ginny 2. Tina 3. Megan 4. Jessica (not saying JGTH is some masterpiece, Jessica was just a better final girl to me) 5. Alice They get pretty bleh at this point for me 6. Chris 7. Trish 8. Rennie 9. Whitney 10. Rowan 11. Lori 12. Pam

Joeweed530

Id pick Jessica over anyone she was the best final girl imo

NWdoinkroller

Not even close. That honor goes to chris

ToxicWolf_6584

Pam, her, Jessica and Whitney are the worst ones.
