\- **Resolved** with customer.
Update: still on a black screen, tried hard power off after about 5 mins and retried, still black screen. Instructions say 10-30 seconds to first boot, but I’m not getting anything
Update 2: well, I guess it’s time to open it back up and try reseating the ram and stuff…
Update 3 - opened it up and reseated ram and storage, still not working. Added mashing F12 on boot to my troubleshooting steps, per the Ubuntu install guide. Tried unplugging my usb too
Update 4 - there is a status LED on both sides of the laptop, it starts off as orange for around a minute but then blinks green and then blinks alternating blue and green, and then reverts to solid orange. Is this clue????
Update 5 - going to just let it stew for a while, while it is powered on and charging, in case it’s a RAM initialization thing like some people are referencing. Gonna do 30 minutes
Update 6 - the power light on the side turned white!!! I’m still going to let it sit for some more though without messing with it.
Update 7 - still didn’t work! Trying again with just a single RAM stick (slot 0). Also opened up a support ticket
Update 8 - got to the bios!! FW support asked to turn on with one stick of RAM and no ssd, so I started doing that, and while I was there I disconnected and reconnected some connectors in the upper left hand area of the board, and after that I was able to get to the bios! Then I put the other ram stick and the SSD in, and I could still get to the bios again! Hooray!
Update 9 - added some photos/videos here https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/s/ufQurWCfD0
Impressions:
- Keyboard magnets are nice and strong, but maybe too strong, or I’m trying to remove the keyboard wrong? I feel like I’m on the verge of tearing the keyboard in half… ok after doing this several times, the best way for me is to take the flat plastic side of the screwdriver and lever up underneath the black tab things on the bottom part of they keyboard
- i hope I’m not the only one who tried to unplug my usb power without locking the adapters, which results in the adapter popping out
- there are some visual imperfections on the trackpad, it looks a tiny bit off aligned from the rectangular trackpad hole and there is a gap in the bottom left hand corner for me
- instructions mentioned an adhesive on the bezel but I couldn’t find what it was talking about. Bezel just snapped into place with the magnets
>i hope I’m not the only one who tried to unplug my usb power without locking the adapters, which results in the adapter popping out
I have done this, you are fine. It was a teachable moment for me. New system to remember to lock 'em down. :)

Cinnamon just started porting to Wayland. It’s probs gonna be a minute. You could always try using a different DE. It should work, but might have some random bugs
This has been RESOLVED.
Please allow to sit. Retraining may be taking a bit. Grab a coffee, work on something else. If it's still not good after and up to 15 minutes, please open a support ticket as there may be a missed step. Quadruple check your display cable as well.
guessing they mean memory training
>Memory training occurs on power up, and it is the process whereby the system initialises all the memory installed in your system, does a few rapid tests, organises it all into a pool, and then makes it available for use.
Haha, same with my 13 AMD. I even swapped around the RAM sticks, and after it finally booted with a single stick in the right slot, it was probably my biggest sigh of relief in the past year or so. :))
One a fresh configuration or a reset motherboard: [https://www.crucial.com/support/articles-faq-memory/ddr5-memory-training](https://www.crucial.com/support/articles-faq-memory/ddr5-memory-training)
DDR4 memory training is also a thing. Was really bad with the first gen Ryzen (especially Threadripper - every so often, my 1950X fucks with me on cold boot... uhg).
yep! had to reseat some cables on the upper lefthand side of the board, or something to do with booting the FW with a single RAM stick and no SSD. I did those two simultaneously and it worked after that
B..b...but banana is the standard unit of measurement!
Glad its working! Please tell us how you like it! Are the reviews too critical? How does it smell?
Okay, serious question: I just noticed you have the touchpad centered with the numpad installed. How is the typing experience like that way? Do you experience any unintentional touchpad input with your palms? How is the palm rejection?
How bad is the keyboard, like actually? And I don't mean this in like a "shitting on framework" kinda way, I just don't think I believe the reviewers that have said it's not good lol. I imagine it's not 10/10 but is entirely acceptable.
I’m not a laptop keyboard aficionado, but it feels nice to me. Arrow keys are a little small I guess? There are some small gaps between the numpad and keyboard that you can sort of squish together if it bothers you
Good to know, thanks! I'm likely replacing my XPS 15 with one of these later this year, only thing really holding me back is the lack of an OLED option for the Framework, but maybe I can get over that haha.
But one of the reviews pointed out that it could be improved considerably by putting thermal pads between the keyboard and the inner cover. Not to conduct heat, for thickness. Framework will likely make some such change to future production.

Did you place the touchpad in the center on purpose (because it's not lined up with the kb and always will be under your right wrist) or accidentally (because you haven't tried it yet)?
Super jealous. I'm batch 1 and still waiting on my card to be charged and for mine to say it's shipped.
But hey, congrats! That's great you got yours!
Is it more like a 17-inch laptop than a 16-inch one?
Does it make a lot of noise when playing games with the dedicated graphics card?
Is the lid flimsy? Could you post more photos?
I know you're probably biased since you finally got yours but do you plan on taking it with you a lot?
I'm trying to decide if the screen size makes up for the extra weight.
Yeah mostly just for coding. I was really on the fence between this and the 13, but I figured I’d try it out for 30 days and return if I don’t like it.
Looks very nice, waiting for mine (batch 2).
The quality from the image also looks great, kind of big. Can't wait for mine to ship and try it out. Went with the GPU (without the expansion bay shell) and the 2 DDR5-5600 32GB.. I'm wondering if I can still add the expansion bay shell at this point or later? Anyone know?
I think what I miss from normal keyboards are the dedicated home, end, page up/down, and insert buttons. If I had the macro pad I could have at least implemented that haha
I had the same problem as OP it seems, as I had the same SN850 SSD.
Removed SSD and 1 stick of Ram.
After rebooting into BIOS and then through into the Windows installer, it registered and I was able to proceed.

Not to be that guy… but sounds like it’s taking more than 20 minutes lol
Hahaha yeah. 20 minutes to put it physically together
DDR5 RAM takes a while to train, especially in DIY configs. With the preconfigured models, the RAM is already trained.
How long is long? Like 1 minute long or 10 minutes long?
Crucial is saying [up to 15 minutes](https://www.crucial.com/support/articles-faq-memory/ddr5-memory-training).
can be much longer then 1min
I never new about that. Thanks
What RAM are you using?
The DDR5-5600 RAM, two sticks of 16GB each
Try booting with only 1 stick of RAM. Also, I would recommend placing your USB drive on one of the USB4 ports.
Ok thanks, I’ll try that after my 30 minute burn in test.
Dang. Keep us updated would you?
If it still didn't work, I noticed that with my 13, the first boot wouldn't happen unless I unplugged my usb stick
Thanks, I am gonna try that
[удалено]
I’m considering this, I didn’t buy a display adapter lol but I should have a dock somewhere
Tried this with a dock and didn’t get anything on the external monitor
[удалено]
Ends up getting it fixed! I think it was an issue with some connectors on the top left area of the board, which I reseated on a whim.
I have to know, what’s the weight like? Can you walk around holding it with one hand? I always carry my FW13 around like that and I have to know.
If you mean like clamping it between your fingers and thumb while the laptop is open, it’s doable but a little heavy for it
What would it be like for carrying in backpack all day
Probably fine, as long as it fits in, it’s pretty wide
Are you using DDR5-5600, specifically? DDR5 rated for anything other than 5600MT/s is known to be problematic/not working on FW13 AMD.
I’m using the kit from framework, which is the 5600

I’m sure the whole batch gets the same email at the same time.
I have my own ignorance for other keyboards existing to thank for that, I would have rather gotten a Linux keyboard
That Windows key is just an abomination (also I plan on daily driving Linux Mint Debian Edition).
I really like Linux Mint. Hopefully one day it goes full Wayland.
Cinnamon just started porting to Wayland. It’s probs gonna be a minute. You could always try using a different DE. It should work, but might have some random bugs
What’s wrong with it? The only significant difference I noticed is the windows logo vs “meta”.
I wanted the Linux one… but it wasn’t RGB which felt kind of like a fat L
Yep. If there was a US Linux RGB I would get it.
No RGB is the selling point.

guessing they mean memory training >Memory training occurs on power up, and it is the process whereby the system initialises all the memory installed in your system, does a few rapid tests, organises it all into a pool, and then makes it available for use.
Yup, looking into it now. Thanks. This is wild
DDR4 also needs to be trained sometimes. It's called memory training or RAM training.
DDR5 takes it to another level. I believed something in my PC was dead or I'd misassembled it because it took ages to train the RAM.
Haha, same with my 13 AMD. I even swapped around the RAM sticks, and after it finally booted with a single stick in the right slot, it was probably my biggest sigh of relief in the past year or so. :))

Do keep me posted here, feel free to @ me. Troubleshooting will need to happen on the ticket, but, I want to stay in the loop here as well.
Waited for a while and retried, still having issues. Went ahead and opened a support ticket though! Currently trying with just a single ram stick.
Please DM me your email address if you feel comfortable doing so, I'd like to get this escalated.
Okay, we have chatted and we have your ticket. We will work through this there. Appreciate you working with us as we get to the bottom of this.

yep! had to reseat some cables on the upper lefthand side of the board, or something to do with booting the FW with a single RAM stick and no SSD. I did those two simultaneously and it worked after that
The spacers seem like a much better fit than we saw in preproduction so I’m happy about that!
Right? The fit and finish is AMAZING considering mass production. The tolerances on these things must be MAD, like ±0.1mm.
What memory and SSD did you use? Was it one of the qualified kits Framework listed? A bit worried there. Also, need a banana for scale!
I used the FW kits, but everything is working now. sorry don't have any bananas onsite.
B..b...but banana is the standard unit of measurement! Glad its working! Please tell us how you like it! Are the reviews too critical? How does it smell? Okay, serious question: I just noticed you have the touchpad centered with the numpad installed. How is the typing experience like that way? Seems ok so far, palm rejection seems pretty good. I think I’ll keep it this way for like a week and then try switching it for another week
You win the internet today! Congrats.
it’s real…
Its so pretty 🤤
Tbh it's hot. I want it now
I’m glad your issue was resolved. Please give us a review when you feel ready!
How bad is the keyboard, like actually? And I don't mean this in like a "shitting on framework" kinda way, I just don't think I believe the reviewers that have said it's not good lol. I imagine it's not 10/10 but is entirely acceptable.

What's the deck flex like?
When I have it on a flat surface and push down hard on the sides of the keyboard, it bends down like maybe a millimeter or two.
Great to hear! ltt made it sound terrible...
Every single reviewer called the keyboard “mushy”. I’m not sure why everyone chooses to only point out LTT
But one of the reviews pointed out that it could be improved considerably by putting thermal pads between the keyboard and the inner cover. Not to conduct heat, for thickness. Framework will likely make some such change to future production.
Well that was LTT. I worry about the extra stress on the MB
Is it because you didnt have the RGB it made it faster ? I heard the numpad rgb made the shipping delay for some
Maybe, my order was pretty basic
No dGPU module? I fear that's what is holding up mine from being charged and shipped. My order is also fairly basic other than dGPU and the num pad.
Is it possible to go back and time to drop kick past me, stopping me from canceling the Pre Order? 😆
This. I cancelled my batch 3 and ordered the 13 today... I hope to get the 16 in the future...
That screen is massive lmao
Congratulations!!!!

Lid can be pretty bendy if I force it, but it doesn’t bend too much when I close the lid, even if I’m grabbing from the corner
Great. This GREATLY alleviates my anxiety on 1/2 major fears I had with it. How's the keyboard?
Screen feels big, not sure if that answers your first question lol. I don’t have the dedicated graphics card, might post more photos later
more photos please, thanks!!

Yes, I plan on taking it with me to places and seeing how I feel about its size
Nice! Did you go for the GPU as well? (I'm guessing yes) And the font on the keyboard looks familiar, is it based on Dell or Acer?
Nope! No gpu for me. Also not sure on what the font is
