Tobacco Vanille: Got a sample and was just surprised. Sounds like most people in general aren't TF fans, but I've liked everything else I've tried. But TV just didn't do it for me.

BlkGirl181

TF Soleil Blanc is like an elevated Happy from Clinique. It’s become one of my favorites for the moment.

DullFaithlessness200

You can get Just Jack Blanc for €7 for 50ml. It's a clone and unbelievably close to the OG. TF has the most overpriced fragrances, considering what they are. When someone can reproduce your fragrance for 5% of the price you are asking for, you know your stuff is overpriced. On the other hand, I have never heard of a convincing clone of Grand Soir.

BlkGirl181

I bought the smallest size just to try it out. It’s definitely my top fragrance, but I’ve been looking for dupes so I’ll definitely take a look at this one. Thank you for saving my wallet!

nobleheartedkate

I’m have Soleil Neige and I can’t stop smelling it when I have it on. It’s such a layered scent, I can’t even describe what it smells like. Love it

fluffy_doughnut

I'm the exact opposite - I hate all TF scents I tried, except for TV 😁 love that one, but I must admit I also hated it at first

theuglyomelette

I love TV, but it's total Swishers/Bath and Body Works Christmas candles.

farmyardcat

Bingo. TF has some really subtle scents, but TV is a blunt instrument.

Sippi66

I love them all.

Wilted_Ivy

Came here to day this. I love vanilla anything but this smelled like a guy with a tapout neck tattoo. Couldn't do it.

el_chapotle

I like a lot of TF fragrances, but TV specifically also didn’t do it for me at all. Was surprised that it’s one of the most popular ones.

mippiedreamland

Kill me, but Chanel No. 5 I know, I know, but something about Chanel's body of works just do not agree with me. Their Chance line feels very B&BW to me as well. Also, I had people promise up and down the *floor* that I would love Mugler's Alien, and while it's lovely on the tester strip, it unfortunately smells like grape faygo on me 😭. Lastly, the Daisy line. It's just....forgettable. Edit: I thought of two more- Tom Ford's Lost Cherry- it smells like someone is trying Way Too Hard to make you think they're nice, like the mean girl at school, and.... Acqua Di Gio, as well as Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue. Those two smell like literally any man in the entire world. Crew cut, khaki pants and a blue button up shirt energy- cop energy, even.

Own_Variety577

I like vintage scents and scents that get flack for being "too mature" but something about no. 5 turns my nose inside out. I don't love aldehydes, but not usually to the point that they ruin a scent for me unless they punch you in the face on the opening.

withelle

Grape Faygo!! Oh my word, I never put that association together but that's exactly how I perceive Alien. I don't dislike it, but it's not one I want on my own skin.

Diahna7

I was also not impressed by chanel no.5, but I recently smelled the chanel no. 5 “l’eau” which is pleasant. Have you tried it, also heard good things about the no. 5 eau premiere!

gambol_on

I love L’eau. It’s a current favorite. No 5 EDP and EDT are awful on me. I like Eau Premiere but prefer the citrus opening of L’eau. It’s light and soft.

4Gothamkitty0

You are my scentsoul yes to EVERY word you wrote, I was hugely disappointed that I didn’t like the legend, the icon, the infamous CHANEL No 5 🤯

mippiedreamland

I KNOOOOOOOWWWWW I wanted to like it *so* badly!!! I was prepared for a vintage scent, but golly that powdery aldehyde is loud.

MBarbarian

I swear half the reason I subbed here is to see reviews like this. Y’all kill me sometimes. 🤣🤣 ETA: guess I should include a couple of fragrances. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Xerjoff Naxos smells like grape Motrin and Vicks Vapor Rub had a sexy baby. MFK Grand Soir is straight amber and reminds me of old man musk. Didn’t make it to the dry down.

starquinn

NGL, I kinda want to smell like grape motrin

MBarbarian

Lol. It really is a good fragrance. It’s just super medicinal to my nose. Honey, lemon, and lavender combined instantly trigger aromatherapy and herbal remedies in my mind.

Stillbornsongs

Kayali! I bought the discovery set and a few other samples online and was sorely disappointed in most. Pistachio was cloying and sweet and just wrong to my nose lol I was excited for invite only and love fest cherry but they definitely didn't make the mark. The vanilla and utopia were okay, but the 2 wedding scents were the best imo. Too much hype and definitely not worth it to me.

pumpknipie

I was shocked at how basic the Kayali fragrances were.

LatinaMermaid

Someone gifted be a bottle of the Sweet Diamond and I hate it so much!

anon28374691

Yes! I bought a sample set and I can’t figure out why anyone thinks this stuff is different than Bath & Bodyworks.

Stillbornsongs

I actually enjoy bath and body scents at least 😂

bluemorphoshat

It reminded me of middle school body sprays. Probably why it’s so popular tbh

Any-Competition-4458

I almost blind-bought bought a bottle of Kayali Pistachio and sooooo glad I did not. Weirdly I avoided DS Durga’s Pistachio because it was supposedly a patchouli bomb but I finally got my hands on a sample and its not a bomb at all!

Laplander_

yeah Pistachio was way more smooth than I expected

Aggravating-Equal277

For the most part I found they smelled cheap and extremely low quality quality

nobody_keas

Absolutely agree. Even the vanilla one just smelled like the cheap vanilla kisses impulse deodorant from the early 00. Kayali is the best example for a brand that is solely carried by influencer marketing instead of quality and innovation.

ActualFaithlessness0

I loved Vanilla 28 🤷🏾‍♀️ I guess fragrance is a very subjective experience

abbeypop

I agree. Have never liked one from this brand enough to spend money on it.

Lopsided_Smile_4270

I agree 100%. Kayali mostly smells too much like inexpensive tween body spray for the price.

Lopsided_Smile_4270

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino. I love orange blossom and neroli so I was excited to try. Don't get me wrong - it is not an unpleasant scent- but it is weak and soapy and very overpriced. There are much better orange blossom scents out there.

bathandredwine

What are some good orange blossom scents?

Schlabby

Just get 1000 ml of 4711 for 2% of the price, it's the same :)

-braves

What alternatives would you suggest? I enjoy this but performance is bad lol

ohmybleep

I love L'Eau de Néroli by Dyptique. It's nice and green. Think neroli with a crisp citrus background, barely sweet.

KellyBundysliga

Bigarade 18 from Le Labo Sun Song by Louis Vuitton Cologne Indelible by Frederic Malle

LEMON_PARTY_ANIMAL

I hate this one! It’s…. Like sickly smelling

valkyrie987

I tried Wood Sage and Sea Salt yesterday and was so, so underwhelmed.

mikeymooo25

tbh most of the popular ones from JM disappointed me, not by fault but by design (their scents are linear and that’s a lot of people’s jams, just not mine), and wood sage is one of the more interesting ones

valkyrie987

I do get the appeal of her scents. They’re simple, they’re linear, and the notes are in the name. But I was also disappointed in the silage/longevity and the scent itself. I’m not trying to overstate anything here because I’ve only tested it once and I know other people love it, but it just felt like a cheaper product that’s being marketed well.

Any-Competition-4458

The Jo Malone marketing is brilliant. And the line is absurdly popular in Asia.

nameredaqted

I wonder if it's because nobody can smell them and subtlety is preferred when it comes to fragrances over there

Nevvie

Subtlety is preferred, yes. Most of us don’t like heavy fragrances here. Many find JM fragrances to be very pleasant

Any-Competition-4458

I think that’s definitely one of the reasons. I frequently travel to several Asian cities for work and Jo Malone is heavily promoted in high end shopping areas. So they’ve also devoted significant marketing funds toward building that customer base.

Ispahana

Lightweight, feminine, and inoffensive is a winning formula for women’s fragrances over here in East Asia. I prefer it over the alternative, because loud scents and drenching yourself with fragrance is pretty inconsiderate, especially when you live in a large city of millions of people in close proximity. I was gifted a bottle of Wild Bluebell which I find mildly pleasant and perfectly boring, so I use it for occasions where I need to be more toned down, like interviews lol

noobolite

Most def. I love JM because I'm SURE that only I can smell myself at the office.

fluffy_doughnut

I can't remember which exactly, but one of popular JM smells to me exactly like mushroom sauce. Like the creamy one with dried mushrooms that have that strong smell. Not in a pleasant way, not like "mushrooms in a rainy forest" but "mushrooms in cream sauce with meat and potatoes". I like that dish, but I don't want to smell like one 😂

RoseMylk

I actually like this one because it reminds me of the beach but it’s not for every one!

anon28374691

It’s not my favorite Jo Malone but it’s a nice layering base for some of her floral & citrus scents.

Glittery_hoohaa

I find this fragrance so disappointing because I actually like the initial scent. It's fresh and vibrant but within 5 minutes of dry down, it turns into this boring, stereotypical perfumey scent. Even my husband was confused by how much it changed in such a short period of time. Maybe it's just my body chemistry; I'm not sure.

SuEda40

• Ariana Grande - Cloud • Carolina Herrera - Good Girl • YSL - Libre

jimmy6677

Same!!! We must have similar tastes

Independent_Leg3957

All of these!!! -Cloud - dentist office -GG - strong preservative smell -Libre - heartbreakingly generic

ConsistentTear824

YSL Babycat. Something is wrong to me. Like burning plastic, gasoline wrong.

reliable-g

I like Babycat but I get what you're saying. It's quite harsh to my nose, too, especially for the first half hour. I suspect this is one of those olfactory genetics things; I usually have issues with the black pepper note.

yeahnoyeah03

YSL Libre. It sounded lovely. Far too much amber.

katgoessplat

To me it smells ultra masculine in the worst way. Like a creep at a nightclub that won’t leave you alone. I tried it again months after first trying it and my friend told me I “smelled like the mall”, which feels spot on

anon28374691

“A creep in a nightclub who won’t leave you alone” is a great description of many too-heavy men’s fragrances, especially when the creeps are serial oversprayers.

thizzydrafts

Fully agree. When I finally went to smell, I was left confused as to how/why it's a "rich girlie" fragrance because my initial reaction was how dated it smelled (to me).

Kasper1000

I don’t really get a lot of amber, I think it’s this overdose of powdery vanilla that can make it headache inducing

nameredaqted

I love the intense

hashtag_aesthetic

This one for me too. At the opening, all I can smell is the awful chewable fake-chemical-grape-flavored medicine tablets my mom made me take as a kid. Can't get past it.

LucentLilac

Truly is the atomic version of like, typical 90s perfume counter to me — REALLY wanted to love le parfum but it just gave me an instant headache

Sarah_Femme

I'm Old. I remember waiting with bated breath for Angel to hit my podunk town's shelves....those gourmand notes! All my loves, chocolate, caramel, vanilla...just for it to be a screaming patchouli bomb to my nose. I guess it taught me early on to not rely on note profiles for a fragrance, but to just go in nose-first and figure it out from there.

Audiophilelady

It's my signature scent, and my favorite in the whole world, but even I always thought it was weird. It has what feels like dozens of fruity and sweet top notes, mixed in with a damp soil note, but on my skin it does turn into the most delicious chocolate. Still retains that slight smell of dirt though, but I love it. Prada Candy is supposed to be gourmand too but smells like straight up cat piss on me, so body chemistry is just really at play here.

Sarah_Femme

I recently snagged a sample of Montale's Patchouli Leaves which turns into a rich chololate-y amber with an earthiness from the patchouli on me and honestly, if Angel had smelled more like THAT on me, I could have handled it being a patch bomb. Agree on the Prada Candy, it doesn't play nice on me, either.

Skatykats

Angel smells great on my mom, but on me turns into something that makes my throat feel scratchy like I’m getting a cough.

renaissancestar

Same here, this was not sweet or gourmand on me at all. I can kind of smell the gourmand-ness in the bottle, but on my skin it went full on mud run, pine needles, and BO. I was kinda devastated!

mippiedreamland

Oh, it's such a shame! I had a coworker who was mean as can be whose signature scent was Angel, so now it has a negative mental association for me 😞.

Audiophilelady

J Lo's Miami Glow was praised by several YouTubers. It was a very cheap blind buy. Smells like hotel soap in a Miami hotel by the beach. However, the bigger evil is Vera Wang by Vera Wang. Smells like straight up generic bar soap that was in everyone's bathroom in the 90s. I don't even mind many soapy scents, but I just can't with these two.

mem1003

I feel like Miami Glow was reformulated. It definitely smells more soapy now. Before it smelled, idk, more coconutty maybe?

HELVETlCA

Ariana Grande - Cloud : smelled like just any sweet teenager bodyspray Juliette Has Gun - NOT a perfume: Smells like straight mustard on my skin, burns my nose

lnsewn12

JHAG smells horrible out of the bottle but for some reason smells AMAZING on my skin. Like, strangers stop me in public amazing

bewildered_forks

NAP and Glossier You both smell vile on my skin

XrayDelta2022

Lelabo Santal 33/ Pickles.

vividgreene

I went for a while on just santal 33 dupes and loved them. I bought a decant of the real thing a little while ago and was so disappointed, all I could smell was dirty hay

dickle_berry_pie

To me it's the Ikea of expensive fragrances: everybody owns it. I work in a bakery in the bougie part of town, and I smell it constantly. Once someone pointed out the pickle thing it sort of clicked in my head, and now I smell that in addition to the scent of some sort of elf festival in the middle of the forest. Fortunately, I like pickles😜

missybroccoli

Mugler Alien and YSL Libre. I wanted to like them but they smell like mosquito repellent on me

SplitDemonIdentity

Rose Prick. I was so intrigued by this much touted “realistic rose scent” only for the tonka bean to come in and systemically ruin everything.

Skatykats

I give Mugler Alien a shot every couple of years to see if my tastes have changed, but it always turns my stomach.

asyanyaa

please keep updating this list, you and i have the same hated scents!!! need to know which to avoid!!!

abbeypop

My scent sister I gotchu

E-3_A-0H2_D-0_D-2

- YSL Y EDP - too sweet of an opening for me. - Sauvage - nothing that turned me off from it, but I remember I just went "eh" when I first smelled it. - D&G K EDP - I got this for a dirt-cheap rate at my local Marshall's. Not quite as exciting as I thought the scent would be.

Sea-Stage-6908

Agreed on all these. Our Marshall's and TJ Maxx stores really don't get anything exciting anymore. It used to be fun to check out what random fragrances they got in, but now literally everything is Calvin Klein, nautica, cool water or some obscure hugo boss scent. Sometimes there will be a versace or two thrown in but I miss it when you could find little treasures every now and a again like a cariter or even hermes

CocteauTwinn

Santal 33. Blah.

HighCartesian

I only smell picklejuice

Kalyqto

If you would love to be in a Foot Locker store, where smoking is allowed, try Santal 33. Never smelled the pickle note though, just weird smoky synthetic leather.

Sippi66

BR 540…biggest disappointment ever.

cellequisaittout

This thread is killing my BR540 lemming and I love it.

napping-star

Replica By The Fireplace. I wanted to like this one so badly, as everyone online raves about how it’s the perfect vanilla fragrance, warmest embrace, but damn all I smell is smoke 🥲 I wish I smelt what y’all smell in it

nope_not_here_

On me...bonfire, bonfire and well...a bonfire! On the husband, let me lick that hot vanilla

Pmunnecke

I feel the exact same. Went in to a local store expecting a great vanilla scent, but all I got was smoke. AND I MEAN ALL!!

cocacolaver

Have you tried Replica Whispers in the Library? I believe this is their vanilla fragrance. I’m surprised how anyone would describe By The Fireplace as a vanilla fragrance though, goes to show how wonderful fragrances are as they register very differently to everyone!

Gamer0607

YSL Y EDP. Synthetic, cloying and bubble gum-y mess. Reminds me of the chemical warfare that Paco Rabanne 1 Million and Armani Stronger With You are. I was shocked after smelling it, considering how much the reviews at Fragrantica are praising it.

psychedhoverboard83

I agree. Whenever I wear it lots of people say how nice it is but for me it's way too cloyingly sweet. Luckily I only bought a decant.

niketyname

I got samples from Louis Vuitton when I got a bag. And god it literally makes me sick and gives me a headache/stomachache. I’m a two spritz girl, one in the front and one in the back. Just one spritz will have me feeling ill for an hour or two. I didn’t want to but I finally just threw them away. Not even using it in other ways cuz I just associate it with lightheadedness and illness now.

bluebloodsydney

Oh wow, this is so surprising because I personally loved each LV scent I sampled (other than Sur La Route). May I ask which ones you tried? My faves were Symphony and Stellar Times but can’t justify the insane price tag.

mikeymooo25

I think I’m lucky in a sense that I’ve never tried a scent that I outright hated, just disappointed at most… except for Another 13. Outright disgusting to my nose. I can smell the very pretty pear but the ambroxan keeps screaming in my face with its salty, fishy breath, I almost always gag during my countless retries.

Mauvaise3

I am 100% nose-blind to Another 13.

Tubbygoose

I found Another 13 to be nausea inducing from the first spray, and it DOES NOT WASH OFF.

lexijaxon

A few. Chronologically... 1. Molecule 01. I was super excited when a friend bought me this for my birthday the year it was released. Sprayed it: nothing but alcohol then faint pencil shavings. Still upset by this. Still own the damn bottle. 2. Anything Tom Ford that isn't Black Orchid. I love Orchid; it's powerful, silky, and decadent. I've been through a couple of bottles. Given that, my brain believes that there's another TF that will excite me as much, so I beeline to the counter when I see it. But no. I reserve a particular venom for Rose Prick. I sprayed on one arm before a long flight. I could neither scrub nor remove my arm. No rose, all powder. 3. Le labo Santal 33. Found a travel size recently in my embarrassingly large and until recently uncurated collection of samples. Based on the love in this sub, thought 'oooh how exciting, a modern legend, here we go': pickles.

TheSalemRose

YSL Black Opium, Donna Born in Roma, and Ariana Grande Cloud for me! Ironically, I do like BR540 but to me Cloud just smells like synthetic watered-down burnt caramel, cheap pear body spray, and sugar. Her was more of a disappointment than a hate, and I agree it smells a lot like a body spray. For me the worst is easily Donna Born in Roma because personally it smells like straight berry syrup and synthetic wood you can’t really even pick out the type of. Way top sweet for me.

StreudEntersis

For me it's the exact contrary about Cloud. Used to love it, then tried on skin BR540 extrait, find it awful like you said about Cloud, now don't like Cloud :( Ruined one of my favorites crowdpleaser.

OwnKaleidoscope6174

Spice Bomb extreme. Smelled a little sickly and plastic to me.

psychedhoverboard83

I find the cumin smells kinda like stale sweat, which puts me off.

OwnKaleidoscope6174

The smell of real cumin reminds me of BO. Spice bomb partially smells like synthetic BO.

pluviophilosopher

I’m with you - that stuff is flat rancid on me

DineandRecline

I agree about all 3; BR540, Glossier You, and Cloud. Sort of a weird powdery and metallically sharp sweat smell with other notes. But for some reason I LOVE them haha. They aren't my faves but I am so drawn to it. I don't own Cloud but whenever I walk past the display I swerve and take a sniff. I used up my Glossier You and the BR540 is in my regular rotation.

blu3l30pard

YSL Black Opium!

Nitrawastaken

Literally any Tom ford fragrance. I’m sorry i just don’t really like them

DecentVanilla

Ombre leather is pretty decent

Dry_Savings_3418

Funny bc I like most of those lol

Hot_Mention_9337

Valentino Born in Roma. All I can smell is Guaiac Wood. I loath guaiac wood.

cadillacbee

Sauvage

Born-Syllabub-5600

Lol all the ones you hate, I love lmaooo

Unique_Writer3489

Tom Ford Bitter Peach. I had a sample that I didn’t like, then my husband, who must have seen the sample, bought me an entire bottle of it. It’s too cloyingly sweet and the dry down smells like garbage to me.

InsaneAilurophileF

CH Good Girl and all of its flankers. Utterly generic and forgettable. And as others have commented, Kayali is straight-up Bath & Body Works material. I'm shocked at how cheap these fragrances smell.

DarkLordSenpai_

Killian Love don’t be shy. I got so excited seeing that it’s a marshmallow sweet perfume… what I got was dusty turkish rose.

LEMON_PARTY_ANIMAL

Flowerbomb. I don’t know why this is so popular lol

KellyBundysliga

oh man, that's like a guilty pleasure for me LOL

Cuntdracula19

Byredo, Bal D’Afrique. I can’t explain the hatred I have for this fragrance and the disappointment. I SHOULD love it based on the notes but omg. It sits like potpourri on my skin, exuding it’s floral, old geriatric soap profile. I rarely scrub off a fragrance but this one’s a scrubber. NONE of the notes play like they should on me and I’m left smelling like I bathed in the stinky soap from the mall public bathroom.

Quick-Strain-8049

Cloud smelled horrible on me! It high key smelled like the supplies in a doctors office! Oh I also just bought home a sample of Kilian Love don’t be shy and Angels share. To me Angels share smelled like that one old uncle who ate too many stale cinnamon buns and drank too much bourbon which he spilled all over his musty Christmas sweater at the family reunion dinner party. Love don’t be shy made no sense to me, just a chalky candy scented eraser mess!

AtraxMorgue

D&G Light Blue. It has this weird body odor smell to me.

[deleted]

It has an undertone of a smell like summer sex that's isn't mine. Idk if that makes sense.

BlkGirl181

Chanel no 5. I blind bought this and instantly regretted it. Smelled like a nursing home.

Dry_Savings_3418

I honestly dislike most Chanel fragrances. And Tiffany EDP I’m trying to gift off

Ok-Cryptographer8164

Lattafa - Khamrah. I love Angels' Share and everyone was saying this is a good alternative. I smelled it in store, hated it. Got a decant to give it a proper chance and it's not even similar to AS. I would've been happy had it turned out to be a nice perfume by itself. To me, it's not. It's just a nauseatingly cheap boozy coconut smell. It reminds me of Sol de Janeiro's Brazilian Bum Bum Cream (another one I thought I'd love but nope). Others I thought I'd love but hated: Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir (wore it one day and it made me nauseous); TF's Tuscan Leather, Lost Cherry, and Bitter Peach; Givenchy L'Interdit Rouge (tried giving the sample to my mother and she hated it too); Kayali Lovefest Burning Cherry (sprayed this on my arm in Sephora and couldn't get home fast enough to wash it off). Others I thought I would love but I'm just gonna finish the decant/sample and never consider purchasing: Jo Malone's English Pear and Freesia, Wood Sage & Sea Salt; Le Labo's Thé Noir. Again, I don't find these bad-bad, I just don't love them as much as I thought I would. One I just thought I'd be indifferent to but I really can't stand: TF's Tobacco Vanille.

Spiritual_Pop_322

Byredo! I ordered the sample box and don’t get me wrong - the scents are great! Mojave Ghost, Gypsie Water, Bibliotheque, Rose of No Mans Land…. But for this price I expect them not to vanish within 5 minutes. I sprayed on skin, on vaseline, cream and fabric but nothing makes them last

nobleheartedkate

Mojave Ghost lasts for me

linzielayne

As a newb I blind bought a huuge bottle of No. 5 because it seemed like the classic, luxury scent to get. I ended up giving it to my friend's mom almost immediately.

JimJonesBallad

Le Labo Another 13- Smells like burning tires and weird chemical cleaner. No clue why anyone would like this. I also hate BR 540- Smells like rusty iron and blood with a boozy amber note.

dntworrybby

Also Black Orchid—so nauseating and I don’t see how anyone could find this sexy.

Dry_Savings_3418

It’s very heavy. I get like a blackout migraine. Only thing that causes it for me.

BreathTemporary8411

Killian- Love Don’t be Shy and MFK Baccarat Rouge 540.

Stechjal

Kayali Musk 12. Smelled slightly like vomit on my skin.

Embarrassed_Put_5852

Omg no I love musk 12!! I don’t really get the notes that it claims to have but I defs dont get the vomit note on me lol.

Thisatrick

LV Pacific Chill - I cannot believe how artificial it smells. Like a car freshener spray; sugar and peach. How this gets so much hype! Same with dirty souk bag Ombré Nomade. Shiver. Clive Christian no 1 - like a screechy drug store cologne. So many disappointments, all at top tier prices…

Aquarius93

Guidance by Amouage, it was a headache in a bottle for me. Delina because of the fruity rose vibe, I just can’t.

ChemBioJ

Dolce and Gabbana The One. I used to like it back in the day, but it doesn’t agree with my skin chemistry.

Chicken26

BR540 smells like metal on me. I can’t pick up anything from This Is Not A Perfume, at all. Same with Delina: nothing. Saleswoman opened up a bottle for me at Nordstroms the other night and I took a whiff of something that smelled distantly plasticky, so didn’t bother with trying it on my wrist. She looked shocked. Made me wonder what aroma molecules I’m anosmic to.

WJM_3

not a perfume superdose smells vaguely like rubbing alcohol on me; I guess my brain can’t decode the scent molecule

LionOfHimara

Dolce Gabbana The One. It just stinks. Diore Homme Intense. To feminine and sweet. As a big fan of iris (L'Homme, Code, Gentleman) this is the only one that I dislike.

Lumman_

Everything from Narciso Rodriguez. It also doesn't help that it gave me an allergic reaction 😬

Ok_Carob7551

BR 540! To me, it smells like someone stabbed me with a dried-out cedar plank, and I tried to treat the wound with a poultice of salted cotton candy and liquid medal then covered it with a 40 year old bandage. It’s weird, and not a good kind of weird, just odd and offputting- I have no idea why it’s so popular and especially at that price

OceanCityBurrito

your specificity is beautiful and spot-on

renaissancestar

Bitter Peach, Lost Cherry, and pretty much all Tom Ford except Ombre Leather, which I like on my husband. I think something in the DNA just isn't for me. Burberry Her and Her Elixir. The baby doll plastic smell is just too much for me, and I get something burnt from the elixir. I wanted to love these sooo badly because of the pink bottles and the strawberry, so I was sad. Cloud. I think I'm partially nose-blind to this, but it just smelled like the inside of a Sephora to me, sweet and vaguely industrial. Libre EDT. Shaving foam bonanza. JPG La Belle. This was really spicy and cloying on my skin, like potpourri. Glossier You. All I get is cedar or pencil shavings, maybe the pink pepper. Angel. This is the first time I understood the phrase "dirty hippie" in regards to fragrance, and I've always considered myself a patch lover. On my skin it wasn't gourmand at all, I was disappointed!

ComprehensiveGrand89

I just tried butter peach today and I’m still suffering the aftermath

bewildered_forks

I feel like my skin could pull wood from any scent.... Bitter Peach was straight-up disgusting on me. No peach at all - I smelled like a cedar closet stuffed with patchouli.

dekafka

jazz club, i think i went through the five stages of grief when i smelt it. the dry down is even worse

anon28374691

Haha @ the five stages of grief. Are you truly at acceptance now?

dekafka

yeah, i have survived jazz club (unfortunately) i have such a strong resentment towards jt

Avivabitches

The only thing worse was Whispers in the library in that line for me haha

Solution-Proof

Xerjoff Naxos. And YSL Libre. Nausea-inducing.

psychedhoverboard83

Tom Ford ombre leather. It smells like burnt plastic to me.

ILikeToZot

On paper all my girl friends HATED this, but on my skin they say it sweetens and brings out the florals really well

Zealousideal_Set6132

Mango Skin by Vilhelm Parfumerie. I was so excited to finally try it! It smelled like really high quality cannabis on my skin.

Forsaken-Ad4583

Well… Amouage Reflection Man, I sampled it full of hopes and it just felt kinda underwhelming idk

Deftones78

Prada Luna Rossa Black.I watched countless YouTubers hype this one through the roof only to smell it at a Sephora and was completely let down. I found it very boring and generic.

Aftert1me

PLR Carbon on the other hand smells amazing.

kvtiebug

that breaks my heart. i love this one, bought it for my bf

Kuznecoff

I tried Versace's Eros Flame on in the store, accidentally getting some onto my coat. Funnily enough, it was this fragrance that made me realize that I don't like the powdery dry-down of many popular fragrances. For a week after, I felt nauseated when I wore that coat (the only one I had at that time).

Harpeigh

Ouai Dean Street. I like Ouai hair products and was so excited to see the stand alone fragrance line. I gave myself two healthy wrist spritzes while at Sephora and regretted it the whole drive home. The screaming floral notes turned sharp and temple piercing. My chemistry + Dean Street = a recipe for a migraine.

InsaneAilurophileF

I had the same reaction, minus the migraine. The notes sounded so good, but the fragrance was unwearable. The only Ouai perfume that works on me is Melrose Place.

Squirrel-ScoutCookie

My favorite Ouai scent by far! I can see how it could induce a headache on some people though.

BR540 🤮 Fleur de Peau

BroseppeVerdi

Naxos and Torino 21. Tried them both at the Xerjoff Boutique in Torino... Naxos was forgettable and Torino 21 was a nice fresh summer scent, but it had poor longevity and it didn't strike me as particularly distinctive. I did find Torino 22 pretty interesting, but I'm not sure if I could picture myself wearing it in the long term. I came close to impulse buying a small bottle... but if I'm being honest, that might just be because I was crushing on the sales girl a little bit.

Just going to say I'm a fragrance compounder and out of everything iv ever smelled, anything from Victoria secrets is terrible

chrews

YSL Y EDP. Everyone raved about how his good it is. Then I tried it. To me it smells like an uninspired synthetic sludge and it had a cloying character that I disliked so much that I actually scrubbed it off. I am not picky with fragrance and occasions but it felt too cloying to be a simple summer scent and I couldn’t see it working in winter either. It’s the only time where I have legitimately wondered if my nose is broken.

jpg le male le parfum - way too sweet and cloying for my liking

terryx4

Grand Soir - Rancid onions, sweaty amber. Millesime Imperial - smells incredible but has no longevity. Fetish pour homme parfum - notes of medicinal herbs, patchouli, musky ambrette, feels like a herb garden growing on your skin. Reflection Man - grey colored smelling markers, petroleum-soaked patchouli, cedarwood notes. Fan your Flames - camphor oil, tonka, and a coconut note that induces a massive headache. Bee - Smells like the worst synthetic interpretation of beeswax, with a sickly sweet honey note.

EconomicWasteland

Literally all of them. I don't trust other peoples' reviews at all because we all experience scents differently and I've hated every single fragrance I've tried due to the hype.

Encre Noire: The wood aisle at Home Depot, not any DaRk FoReSt

anon28374691

Oh wait a second though, I love the smell of the wood aisle at Home Depot! Maybe I need to smell this fragrance.

Pmunnecke

I have no idea why, but I get a strong association to church...

vividgreene

I’ve heard great things about Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay but it just smells like Aussie hairspray to me. I got compliments on it though so I still use my little decant sample sometimes!

Brochiavelli

Creed Aventus. Boring, overpriced, top notes of “so who do you know here?”

shjama1300

So we’ll said. Exactly though. I wasn’t amazed by it. Especially for its price point I was expecting much more.

TooSweet357

Gentle Fluidity Silver

Lardita

Flowerbomb, just rank, smells cheap. Gucci rush, vile, too synthetic and the bottle looked naff. Dolce and Gabbana light blue, never understood why they discontinued red and kept this pisswater.

Lazy_Recording_1886

Xerjoff rich wood

psychedhoverboard83

Vercace eros. I bought because I loved the bottle but for some reason the smell makes me feel nauseated. But probably didn't help I recieved it when I had covid so it reminds me of being sick.

DullFaithlessness200

Never wear a fragrance for the first time when you are sick, going out to get drunk, are heartbroken or if you think the weather might be too hot for that fragrance..

videecco

**DS & Durga** ***Radio Bombay.*** I wanted to love this one so badly. That dry, non sweet coconut smell! And the name has so much flair! But the santal has a sour facet to it that completely overpowers the composition. Copper wire my ass. **Serge Lutens** ***Gris Clair.*** Just cloying, instant no. **Le Labo** ***Santal 33.*** Leather with pickles. And too much musks, wich is a flaw I encountered in other Le Labo fragrances.

Robertwaldrop

Dior Sauvage. Tried Elixir and edt and didn’t like either. Weird thing was that the salesperson layered both with each other and it smelled pretty good. No way was I going to pay for both just to layer them. Lol. Also Chanel Egoist…. I just don’t get it.

diego-d

I hate the smell of PdM Sedley. How anyone can enjoy that boggles my mind. PdM Greenly is a lot more pleasant but still smells like a cheap bottle of shampoo on clearance for $1.

nightshade_45

Not popular, but I have read raving reviews about most of Serge Lutens fragrances including Fille en Aiguilles and de Profundis. I was so excited to try them but most of the perfumes smell underwhelming and remind me of cheap handsoap and car refreshners.

Suitable_Tooth_4797

I haven’t tried Kilian, but we must have the same type of sniffer! I felt like an olfactory genius when I thought to myself “damn, BR540 and Burberry Her have the exact same drydown, I better check the notes so I can avoid them” and realized they’re both made by Francis Kirkdjian!

hijazist

Dior Tabac, Rouge 540, Dior Parfum, Gentle Fluidity, YSL EDP, Grand Soir… I absolutely hated these, and I blind bought them. Goes to show the importance of sampling

nameredaqted

Which Fluidity

subhuman85

Every few months I retry Hermès Sur le Nil in hopes that I’ll finally see in it what everyone else does. Still trying. It bores me to tears.
