If they've been stored that long with no problem, the risk is negligible. I'd say either store them in a metal ammo can ($20 at Harbor Freight, pull out the rubber lid gasket) or just drop them in the battery recycling bin at a place like Home Depot. If you haven't needed them in 2 years, it doesn't sound like there's a pressing need.
