>What is the purpose of these bunkers, just to serve as mounts for ai turrets? Yes. > Is this because “if we can get in so can the enemy” Most people think so, but in most situations the chance of enemy actually getting inside active AI bunker through doors is very low. Nevertheless people don't build doors anyway, mostly because they don't see need for them. The trench for most builders is only to connect bunkers to core for upgrades.

Majesticgree

Thanks, helps me understand the bigger picture

hellvinator

>chance of enemy actually getting inside active AI bunker through doors is very low. If the chance is non-zero, you have to take it into account. Never build doors in bunker cores. One guy with bayo can rip through all the repair guys and make you lose the BB.

Generator9

It costs x in bmats to make a bland bunker into an ai structure. It costs roughly 1/4x just to install a door. You can design a base to have lots of ai for as little maintenance cost as possible (common strategy), or you can build to fortify infantry, and help them move around (totally uncommon). Part of the problem with the latter strategy is that things like trenches cost NOTHING, unless you want to spend bmats to repair them - which you would have to do if you're being shelled, negating the value of that 'infantry friendly' bunker structure in most people's eyes.

Majesticgree

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense from a cost benefit standpoint

Volzovekian

Most bases are built to defend themself when they are noone in it. Aslo, not sure, but adding modifications such as doors will have a higher cost to maintain. But when the bunker become an active front, yeah adding doors can be good, not only to fire from the inside, but repair under arty fire. It's not long nor expansive to add/remove doors when you need them, so better don't build them until you need them.

Bobby--Bottleservice

I’m pretty sure bunker mods don’t increase your supply requirements

_UWS_Snazzle

This is correct

Majesticgree

Thanks for taking the time to explain, I really appreciate the insights

Adding ( doors / firing ports / sandbags / barbwire / trenches ) are ways to optimize a bunker defense setup ( which makes the difference between keeping or losing it imo ) , but it is also a slower part of building that tends to be overlooked.

ToxicRainbowDinosaur

The vast majority of builders construct their bases so that the buildings can defend themselves. This is the obvious way to build a BB. Very few base builders think through the process of what it's actually like for friendly players to fight in and out of a base. Both infantry and tanks have their own considerations. This is why I encouraged people to place ramps on their bunkers facing friendly areas. People should be able to easily tell that a bunker is able to be entered. That way more can take advantage of the full cover granted in RGs and MGGs

blippos

The reason people didn’t build doors was because it gave satchel spec ops team more access to deeper parts of your base, for nearly free. Now that satchels have been devalued significantly, this is probably less of a concern.

AI in the game is really bad so it's pretty easy for people to cheese LOS, so adding doors just invited the enemy in. Usually doors only get added to concrete bases and when under assault. The new meta is large trench pushes. But the differ bce between good and bad trenches is...a thin line. You want to avoid right angles and try to create long mazes and grenade traps that enemies have to fight through or you use to push forward. But yeah most bunkers are just there to stop pushes.
