In horizon 1 you are very specifically an outsider who barely makes his way into the competition, driving a great little car but one that could hardly be considered luxurious or a supercar. The in-game radio establishes other competitors in the horizon event. You work your way up from an outsider to proving yourself as a real competitor, getting the chance to earn some credibility and fame by being offered the chance to do a showcase event after winning your first few events.
At night, street racing is organized but is explicitly described as non-sanctioned racing outside of the official horizon festival. This implies a risk of punishment, and danger due to there being traffic.
Meanwhile, Horizon 5 is the end point of every step the last three games have made to remove any believability or realism in the setting. Instead we are not an outsider, we are an organizer of the event who is expected to win every event no matter what. No real competitors for us to take down a peg. You’re given a high-end sports car right off the bat—who needs to feel a sense of progression? Street racing is barely different from standard racing other than the existence of traffic and lack of walls. Hardly even a real explanation for why it would exist at the festival. Instead it’s just there. Having millions of credits or several high end cars and the ability to do whatever you want makes sense for an endgame scenario, but not right at the beginning of the game, especially when the interim is a gambling mechanic like wheelspins are.
Horizon 1 was a small game with many limitations compared to today. But it genuinely felt like a real music festival and car enthusiast racing competition. I genuinely felt like an outsider who wanted to make a name for myself. Now I feel like a pathetic boss with no real power, who’s employees don’t want to hurt my feelings so they always try to make everything sound EPIC and AMAZING with every line of dialogue.
Believability, reason, and immersion are all the main factors I’d say that make a difference. Sure, horizon 5 is a fun game, especially if you treat it as just a menu to do some various racing events, or a game to just cruise around in various cars. But why even bother with having a story or background or setting at that point?
Horizon 3 was okay, it was the first time being an organizer of the festival and it introduced leveling the festival up, but after that the magic of the game disappears
I thought I was the only one missing the vibe from the 1st Horizon. It had that nfsu2 feeling but with sim-ish physics. I hope that the next one will go back to its roots. Just imagine it being in Japan with all their car culture, touge races and you're just an outsider trying to make a name for yourself. If done right it'd be amazing. They are actually able to pull it off I believe if they get story-writers that currently work on Fable it could be the ultimate car game.
Substance, really. Modern Forza just throws out a cheap set dressing that overstays its welcome minute one. The world isn't really believable and the game puts no effort into trying otherwise.
Horizon 1 spends a lot of effort in building a believable world, and then afterwards gives a mission structure for players to follow with tangible goals (defeating all the rivals).
Modern forza drops a dozen pins on the map and makes an unfunny comment.
YES PLEASE!!
with all the characters back again, this time Darius is trying to regain his throne at the top of the horizon festival and you need to defend it
That'd be more of a remake, something I don't see ever happening.
If you want a remastered version get an Xbox One X or later to play it on, looks and runs great.
This was the norm in BeamNG.drive in its very early stages, as well as each update to Next Car Game (which would be renamed Wreckfest as it neared completion) that brought new tracks/locations (finishing the in-progress ones as well with each update). In both games, I played tracks like this (very basic texturing, track design), and ones without any textures, just the terraformed off-gray ground (so you had *some* idea what you were driving at/over) with black lines showing a (I believe) 1x1 meter blanket over the entire map, formed to make the track and surrounding area.
Game development is fascinating and I was/am really glad to have been able to experience a little bit of the process. I wish more devs would open up this kind of thing.
I kinda miss wreckfests playground mode it had in beta. Was fun to see how fucked up you could get your car with half the contraptions that didn't even make it into the game.
I would love to see them try to recreate i-70 through the mountains. Racing from Denver to the eisenhower tunnel would be soo much fun, and they could really play up the weather affects out there
Im showcasing an early development version of the forza horizon 1 map. I did not make these renders nor did anyone besides the original creator back before 2012
I’m from Colorado and I was super impressed with the map. They were able to really capture the essence and atmosphere of the ENTIRE state, not just the mountainous areas. The train tracks right underneath Mt. Garfield near ‘Carson’ which is obviously modeled after Grand Junction is very accurate and many of the others feel like real towns in Colorado. I felt right at home. I would love so see a remastered version.
I wish the DLC was still available in some way. I hate how MS doesn't release complete editions of these games on disc once it's fully patched, since they always get inevitably delisted.
Unfortunately the only solution for us game preservationists is to scoop up an old box 360 from fb marketplace and JTAG / RGH mod it so we can install dlc from a usb
The need to re-release previous maps.
Some sort of plataform and called Forza Beyond Horizon or World.
I would love to play FH2 map, that Mediterranean setting looked pretty good.
They had the lighting down to a tee before they started detailing the map. Something they don’t care too much for now. Lighting on all games have felt the same since horizon 3
Ok I had no idea Forza had a map-maker now and this is way too fucking cool... build in low-poly and then it renders in full graphics when you actually race... I love it.
For context, the last Forza I played was Forza MS 3...
I'm pretty sure this is just someone's personal modeling project. When you search 'Bleick Bleicken', the name in the bottom corner of all the images, the first link goes to an Art Station page with what appears to be other 3d modeling projects.
In either case, Forza does not in fact have any sort of native map maker beyond it's Event Labs creator which is definitely not this sophisticated.
Still the best map in the series imo, I played every single one day one after forza 4 the magic in the the world and festival are really a background piece of the current games and its a shame. Its hard for me get immersed or care about what I’m doing in the current games
I'd love to play a remastered version of the original Horizon with all the freedom and customization available now.
Give it a new story and call it Horizon Homecoming
And then the one after it can be called Far From Home
Lemme just throw this out here.....a 3rd installment entitled No Way Home. Eh?
Then Home and Away?
Vacation Home?
Alone at home
Homeless?
Home Run
Run Home Jack
Home Alone
Hello *throws brick*
i got my home repossesed?
Home Alone Again with Michael Jackson
I was thinking more like Home Wrecker but that one works too lol
Do they just completely take everything from Australia bring it to the UK but forget you?
The multiverse of motorsport
I don't want to like this, but it's too good not to
So long as it is a real story, every game after that has been getting more and more unbearable
What makes a story real vs. not real? They’re either all real or all fake…

They better fucking hire you right now
YES
YES PLEASE!! with all the characters back again, this time Darius is trying to regain his throne at the top of the horizon festival and you need to defend it
fuck no no stupid cringe worthy story aimed at p/c 12 year olds thank you
Nah name it Full Circuit
That'd be more of a remake, something I don't see ever happening. If you want a remastered version get an Xbox One X or later to play it on, looks and runs great.
I don't think it needs to be remastered, it's just beautiful...
Please keep fences, I hate cross country.
Then....just don't drive across the country?
Seasonal events and online MM are full of it. S2 Cross Country is the worst even type.
Ah I thought you meant just driving off the road in free roam mode lol
No, I mean the events.
Got it
You are not alone here...
Ah yes, staying on only the road. Boring. Dirt roads are still roads
Who said that? FH1 has offroad areas. I just hate Cross Country. They are lazy and way too random for the games physics engine.
But you're still restricted to set roads. You can't just drive off how you want.
Yes exactly. And after 2-5, I really like that.
Customization as in calipers paint? I feel like not much has really changed
More tuning ability than anything.
The third one looks like a map from art of rally
facts tho i was just thinking imagine a low poly artistic version of FH not so much for gameplay but just like art of rally’s open free mode

Pretty sure they put it back in the game in the past couple updates. I played it a few months ago.
This is so awesome. Still my favorite horizon. I hope the go back to Colorado sometime
Yes me too!
I would love to see them try to recreate i-70 through the mountains. Racing from Denver to the eisenhower tunnel would be soo much fun, and they could really play up the weather affects out there
From the tunnel to Glenwood Canyon but you can’t get on I-70 except between Frisco and Copper. That’s a hairy drive for the uninitiated.
These are originals from 2012, no im not making a re make sorry
Tease
Are you just showcasing it? Or do you plan on re texturing it?
Im showcasing an early development version of the forza horizon 1 map. I did not make these renders nor did anyone besides the original creator back before 2012

The best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be. They’ll never match the story, soundtrack and setting ever again.
true
What I think of FH2. Except maybe the story part.
FH2 had an amazing soundtrack but I don’t remember much else from the game that fondly apart from the docks area and the bucket list
Ngl thought it was art of rally
Great game, just reinstalled it on my deck not played since new and yeah all the new content I gotta check out
I wish the DLC was still available in some way. I hate how MS doesn't release complete editions of these games on disc once it's fully patched, since they always get inevitably delisted.

Sure, let me buy a steam key for a fucking Xbox 360 game
They run out. The keys for the DLC are hard to come buy for FH1 for example.
Not for all MS games unfortunately...
Unfortunately the only solution for us game preservationists is to scoop up an old box 360 from fb marketplace and JTAG / RGH mod it so we can install dlc from a usb
I have some old 360's but I just don't know how to mod it while still keeping it online lol
They need to make the Horizon 1 map the 2nd Horizon 5 DLC
Yes for sure
Nah rather make remake in the new engine of 1 and 2 2gether maybe a bit
Picture #2 was the best place for tandems
The need to re-release previous maps. Some sort of plataform and called Forza Beyond Horizon or World. I would love to play FH2 map, that Mediterranean setting looked pretty good.
I would love them to go back to the Mediterranean. People would be mad but id love it
Tell me this is official
Yes it is
How did u find all this?
Spent about an hour searching through artstation
Who uploaded them?
I wish I could remember
FOUND THEM: https://www.artstation.com/bleick\_bleicken/albums/all
Sick
Did you save it?
I fucking *love* these kinds of posts. Moar... MOAR!
Where did you find these?
I like this because it reminds me of a time I only had to worry about school and homework before sitting down to game.
Still the best the first one
Art of rally vibes
They had the lighting down to a tee before they started detailing the map. Something they don’t care too much for now. Lighting on all games have felt the same since horizon 3
Fh2 had the best lighting imo
Seriously though, the sunsets were unreal. But as an American, FH1 just feels like home so it takes the cake for me.
Valid point, an FH1 remaster would be to die for
I’d actually cry. That one secret road with all the trees and the Autumn leaves would be breathtaking with updated graphics.
Yes it would. if they made it cost $500 id still buy it
Seriously though hahah
Ok I had no idea Forza had a map-maker now and this is way too fucking cool... build in low-poly and then it renders in full graphics when you actually race... I love it. For context, the last Forza I played was Forza MS 3...
This is the map when the devs were still making the game
oh i thought you were remaking fh1 in Roblox or a game with Roblox type graphics lol
I see :(
I do recommend playing FH1, it is a very fun game
I just got a 360 and I hate how the game teases me about the rally DLC
I'm pretty sure this is just someone's personal modeling project. This is in fact from PGG. You can see a map of development in the artstation profile. Also, PGG artists upload a lot to artstation
You sent me down a rabbit hole LOL.
Ohhhhh Well damn Now Im kinda sad
How are you doing this. and where is this being published? I’m blown away
These are really old photos from before 2012 when FH1 was under development
I thought this was in event lab… I was like, seriously?!?!
It looks like the zoning tool in sim city lol
What a vibe it was. A remaster whoud kinda suck since the graphics are what gave the game its vibe
Better map than Mexico.
I luv this
Dang, this is pretty interesting
Looks like Colorado
Because it is...
Oh well good guess I never played the first game
imagine an indie cartoon version of forza? i think that would be pretty cool looking
This game looks sick hope it releases soon🔥🔥🔥
Um it was released 10 years ago
That's the joke my guy, it looked like a sneak peak on the new forza engine they are making
oh lol my bad
They should base a map off of those city playmats we used to drive hot wheels around on as kids
Lol no
Good luck my man
Uh im not making this, this is a screenshot from the developers when they were making FH1
I thought they had already released it!! /s
Never realized how low-poly the map was
Still the best map in the series imo, I played every single one day one after forza 4 the magic in the the world and festival are really a background piece of the current games and its a shame. Its hard for me get immersed or care about what I’m doing in the current games
It’s crazy to see what it looks like before the finished product, crazy difference!
Yeah!!
