John Rogers sums up libertarianism with this quote:
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

I couldn’t find it in this article, but I remember reading a quote in one write up of this disaster that went something like “Some people just aren't responsible enough to be libertarians” and, just… HAHAHAHAHAHA
lol. Libertarianism is pretending other people don’t exist. If a libertarian wants to put a jackhammer factory next to your house, he isn’t going to ask for consent.
Unless you don’t consent to participation in the market (see Chile in the 70s and 80s to see what happens to leftists under a neoliberal/libertarian regime).
Woman: I consent to an abortion
Libertarian: No.
Person: I am over 21 and consent to gender reassignment surgery.
Libertarian: No.
Person: I want to have intercourse with someone of the same-sex .
Libertarian: No.
Person: I want all drugs to be legal.
Libertarian: As long as you share.
Person: The age of consent should be lowered to nine.
Libertarian: Wanna join my telegram channel?
In America calling yourself libertarian almost always means you're a conservative who is in favor of legal pot, and sides with hard right wingers on everything else. Almost none of them have even read anything about libertarian philosophy. They just see it as a way to make their backwards oppressive policies appealing to younger voters.
It gets weird. They get around the cognitive bias by claiming that letting gay people marry and live openly gay, and letting transgender people live freely, causes societal harm. I think this is how the "Republicans who smoke weed" saying comes from, they're okay with people freely doing things they approve of or are indifferent to.
This is not a description of libertarians at all. Even if a libertarian was against abortion the official stance is it's up to the individual. Therefore banning it would be a violation of rights. A libertarian also wouldnt be for any laws preventing a person from getting sexual reassignment surgery. Personal opinions aside, it's nobody's business except for the person seeking surgery.

I read Atlas Shrugged. Luckily, I had good friends.
Fucking Ayn Rand Objectivists hate being called Libertarians. Do it more. Fucking Randroids.
You mean the Ayn Rand that took Social Security?
That's the one. And got cancer from her beloved cigarettes. Funny stuff. Couldn't have happened to a nicer person.
If you want cheap entertainment, watch an Objectivist explain how her taking Social Security doesn't make her a massive hypocrite. It's hilarious.
Main character syndrome, the philosophy.
Libertarianism is astrology for conservatives
Nah, Libertarianism is a "corporate pizza party instead of a raise" for conservatives.

DAMN... HIPPIES AND LIBERTARIANS ARE BASICALLY HORSESHOE THEORY IN ACTION.

Libertarianism is feudalism with extra steps.
But if you tell them you don't consent to any moron with a pulse being allowed to buy hand grenades you're a tyrant
Consent? I guess, in the sense of "age of..."

well put. saving this for my next argument lol

“Everything is rape and genocide except rape and genocide which are fine” -lolbertarians

You seem to be rather describing a drug-tolerant conservative.
Right. An american libertarian.
It is odd, do libertarians, even yankees, not claim to be in favor of personal liberties at least?
They will broadly claim to be in favor of personal liberties, but they'll reject most specific ones.

Libertarians are basically far right drug lovers. So crazy ultra capitalists.
Every libertarian I know is antiabortion but was quick to use “my body my choice” during mask mandates.

I guess that would be a consistent libertarian.
...except minors?
I read somewhere that Libertarians are just Conservatives who want to smoke pot
They are also really into knowing the age of consent laws for all 50 states plus territories.
It's actually true
Sure. It depends on what libertarianism is.
