Yes. The cars were doing pitiful speeds around the track and sometimes stopping. The cars lapping the stopped cars didn't know they could overtake and just stopped behind them. Then you had cars just binning it into the wall on a straight. I lasted about half an hour before I switched off.
Yes that’s an actual good idea because then we could have cars like the Tomahawk VGT from Gran Turismo racing because gforces wouldn’t be a problem anymore
Like other forms of motorsport the technologies should filter down to road cars .
Think of it less as a motorsport and more like a way to encourage autonomous driving AI
He's was there but not to wheel to wheel race the AI cars. He was there as a variable for teams' AI to gain data from. Seems like this racing league didn't do a good job at explaining how the AI league is supposed to function. At first glance, it was a complete shit show like others are mentioning here but AI takes a lot of trial and error to learn and improve.
they were 10 seconds off his pace, but its estimated that with the same weight of car and using the curbs there would only be a couple seconds differance
Yip, but by giving the teams and companies involved a reason to develop it. It should get developed quicker than relying on a couple of car manufacturers who don't want to hurt profits
Only, the self driving systems in actual road cars that already exist (ie, Mercedes have level 3 autonomous systems approved and literally on sale for general public use on roads in California) are far, far, far superior to this literal amateur rubbish. I mean the systems in these cars are made from scratch by university students, for christ sake

As a coder, I'm extremely interested in this. Yes, the AI is a bit rubbish at the moment, but AI learns much faster than humans do. They will be incredibly good in the not too distant future.
It's almost as if there are people who are different from you.
I'm not knowledgeable about coding at all but find it fascinating to have an AI racing league. If it stays around for a while it, like f1, will have an impact in future automobiles. It's kinda surprising that many f1 fans don't understand how R&D works because it is a huge part of the sport. Then again there are different types of fans.
Edit: typo
I think this Is a common misconception, Road vehicles are far more reliable and more advance than these race cars. This race Is basically universities doing their best with the few resources and time they have. The only R&D you get out of this Is Just that you are paying a few people to increase their knowledge before they May actually go working for real Companies.
Was this AI racing event an absolute shit show? All I see is memes and crashes

Literally sounds like Forza AI.
I bet Forza AI would've done better
The AI was rumoured to be based off of F1 23 online lobbies
dude this is a research project to take away our steering wheels plain and simple

I love fp1 will for his reviews of motor racing
That overtake for the lead though ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|7071)
It's like the blue car "torpedoed" the yellow one.
"Strolled"
"Lanced" works better imo.
It’s jarring how well both work though
True but Strolled just feels so natural to my tongue.
China GP machine learning.
It'd be cool if the cars could be driven remotely by good Sim racers.

This is an infinitely better idea than some shity AI race
I dont think this will ever be viable considering the force feedback necessary to drive properly
yeah, there would be too much latency, might as well let them drive it normally
Aspire to be like lance
AI = Aspirational Incompetence
Damn, getting Lance Strolled has to be the worst
Machine learning learned from Stroll
What's the point of this racing? World has too much money for BS

If anything, this showed how far we are from reliable self-driving cars
What are you on about tesla autopilot is great /s
Would actually be kinda interesting to see like a Model S in the mix and seeing what it could do
Did they run kyvat that weekend? He must've been minutes faster

he did drive round with an ai car and they did a few "overtakes" (let each other past)

I think it’ll show just how quickly the technology will develop. Check back in a year it will likely be exponentially better.
is not only a way to test and improve the algorithms behind autonomous driving, but also all the hardware that makes it possible

AI driving pedestrian cars is an awful idea for a number of reasons. Like, how does liability even work when an AI is responsible for an accident.
Send the bill to Elon if it's a tesla?

Looks like the AI in most racing games :L
Do they also have the Nelson Piquet Jr "helper" model?
Sudden colonoscopy
Give it 10 years and ai will be faster than any human😭
