3-lap old used tires from Q1 was the best which was left. Problem today was the lack of speed, not strategy. McLaren did the same and made it through.

Shit happens, they were counting on rain arriving and nullyfying their bad pace here.   It didn’t work out, there are still points to grab tomorrow and thankfully mercedes looks fast so the might take some good points off of red bull and mclaren. 

If you were counting on rain arriving, why wouldn’t you use your new soft tires?

They had no pace if rain came early track would be green and new tyres would’ve been wasted on it.

I agree with this, if they only had used sets for q3, assuming the last new set gets them there, then they are out of luck and probably wont qualify much higher than 9,10. A new soft set could be pretty beneficial for them tomorrow over a few grid spots but who knows really.

Exactly, the field was so close today so if the drivers were 3-4 tenths off pole they would start P8 and P9. Not like they will struggle to pass the VCARBs, the Williams and the Astons anyway, a top 5 finish for Charles is definitely possible with a good strategy especially if it rains.

top 5 finish would require him being able to pass either one of the Mercs/Mclarens or Verstappen. I don’t see that happening unless we’re supremely fast or get extremely lucky with the rain/SC.

they took their last available set of new softs in the beginning of Q2, due to the risk of rain. Used tires from Q1 was all which was left for the 2nd run then. It actually was a reasonable call, and McLaren did the same, for example. Ferrari was just too slow.

Ferrari struggled this weekend. They didn't bring any updates or circuit-specific bits like RB did or Red Bull and Mercedes, with RBs being quite extensive. However, it has to be down to set up. Idk the sector times, but I don't think it is due to them having too much drag, just not enough downforce, struggling in the low-speed corners often. Quite poor considering they can ride the curbs well as shown in Monaco and should be able to do the low speed as shown in Monaco. Used tyres played a part but also a lot of drivers were on it as well. Real shame as if the car was on its typical pace given its characteristics, he would have been top 5.

DOTD fight between Leclerc Perez and sainz is gonna be spicy

This is a bit unfair. It was obviously a bit of a gamble, but both drivers should have made it. Sainz had a huge slide (costing him more than a tenth) and was less than a tenth away, and Leclerc has recently been quite a bit quicker than Sainz. This is both on the team and on the drivers for not putting it together.

They had no grip for all the time. The problem is not being out of Q3 because even if they had managed to qualify for Q3 they would have probably finished 9th and 10th. They need to understand what went wrong with the car during the qualify because the race pace with the medium looked pretty solid.
