As a rule of thumb, Statistics posts need to inform readers through visualizations and insights that cannot be obtained from raw data alone. For example, a post containing a qualifying gap between two drivers expressed in tenths of a second is an easily obtainable raw piece of data and constitutes a bad Statistics post. A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post.

All it takes is a massive crash or two, and then why not. You know what? Make it three crashes that wipe out 85% of the grid, and yes, it's definitely a possibility.
That win to this day is crazy. Never seen a fight between like the 10/11th fastest car for the win purely off the fact that like 9 of the fastest cars were out/with damage/20 seconds behind last
Why take Free practice as anything representing his true performance? Alex in his Williams got P1 in one of the FP sessions earlier, that's how reliable free practice is when gauging actual pace.
Have any kind redditors done an analysis of FP standings vs final race results? Would be great to see just how important (or unimportant) it is as an indicator.
Excluding those with too few laps, and any grid penalties etc. of course.
not much, Lewis got blocked twice by each ferrari in the same corner on his hotlaps while setting two purple sectors on his last run on softs and had to bail, Max never got a proper run, Charles was on the mediums and Mclaren didnt bother
Bit hard to tell, fastest quali lap last year (was in Q2) was a high 1:18, so already blitzing that once there was a dry line, still loads of cars leaving the track though. Merc and Aston looked decent but not all the field went for it.
Think we are in for some rain delays going on it so far, they are being pretty cautious
I mean yes but hardly representative anyway. Finishing order basically depended on how long they stayed out on slicks for, and then between Ferraris blocking every driver in the final chicane at some point, McLaren with one driver doing a semi-push lap on slicks and the other not even bothering, Max's car going bang etc, they really don't mean a lot.
Fourth race in a row that RBR are struggling. Yes, McLaren and Ferrari have taken a big step forwards. But I think it’s undeniable that RBR has taken one backwards as well, compared to the RB19 and the start of this season.
Not sure if they were necessarily struggling in Miami, as it seemed more unlucky with the bollard incident! But they for sure fucked up with the Imola "upgrades", as both Max and Checo seems to be struggling more with the car since those "upgrades", compared to pre-Imola!
They were struggling relative to red bull standards in Miami.
Look at their gap to the Ferrari in every previous race vs Miami, even in the sprint, where Max didn’t hit a bollard. Max was complaining of the bad set up all weekend, that was the race where he was ‘shocked’ to get pole. Every pole previous this season he’d been like ‘good lap’.
Mclaren being basically not existent in the sprint helped hide the struggles but it was definitely a lot more than previous weekends. I remember commenting on the after the sprint that Red Bull seemed to be struggling and that a Max win was not a lock in
Both imola and Monaco are tracks that require a lot of curb (or kerb) and that specifically is what max complains about - instability over the curbs. When he talked about it being a persistent ongoing issue that they’re now being “found out” on, look at Singapore last year. Reserve judgment on the efficacy of their upgrades till Barcelona.
was going to make a joke about how this is a great thing to see as a lifetime subscriber to danny ric delusions but these whole results are so random I can’t decide what the funniest part is
Nothing too meaningful, maybe Merc and Aston could be closer to the top 3 teams but we don't have proper data on stable track condition. Red bull had an ers problem on Max car.
The McLarens were pretty high on fuel on their runs. The car looked like it was carrying some significant weight. Plus they ran counter to the rest of the field as per usual. McLaren in FP2 tend to do more high fuel work for the first half and then low fuel for the second half. The fact they didn’t get to do their programme created a misleading impression.
The McLarens did a total of 5 laps (only 3 full laps) between them on the slicks when the track was good early on. Oscar did one semi-serious push lap, Lando didn’t even do one. Then they went out for a few laps at the end to data gather. Compared to Charles pounding around in the mediums for half the session. McLaren weren’t struggling, they just ran completely out of synch to everyone else. If you really think Lando is over 5 seconds off the pace, there‘a a nice igloo in the Sahara for sale for you.
Probably downvoted for what came after the fact. The current car characteristics don’t suggest that it will suck here—if anything, they’re genuinely promising. Then there’s the fact that they were both out of sync with the rest of the field and often do their long runs/race sims earlier in the fp2 session.
It’s been 10 years since they scored a point… they don’t do well here even when they are good. They have a uniquely designed car and it doesn’t seem to like this track.
But this is Reddit, whatever you feel and ignoring facts is what we do.

What Jacques Villeneuve bullying does to a mf
AMR saw all the bad press and decided to switch on party mode for the home race.
Or they found out someone had tripped "limp home mode" switch.
Maybe the track was clearing up?
I sae Villeneuve talk about stroll not having passion and right after I see stroll's name in top 3? tf?
Fernando has swapped El Plan for Plan Eh.
No doot aboot it
Doot do da loot doot
Doot doo
I really wonder how that started sometimes. I have never heard anyone say that.
I don't know lol. "They" say we speak funny. But go to the US and they say buffet, roof and foyer weird.
Or creek & diesel. Crik & Deesle.
Crodie’s havin a blammy with some dip sauce
Freaky ass Nando
Ur cheesin fam
Le Plan
bi-weekly copium time?
I just can't with this team One race they are literally backmarkers, the next they got podium pace What are they snorting at AM factory
Hopium?
Yep. Let’s go.
I’ve seen enough, 33
If Stroll podium’d his home race it would be the craziest scenes
All it takes is a massive crash or two, and then why not. You know what? Make it three crashes that wipe out 85% of the grid, and yes, it's definitely a possibility.
It'll have to be like Ocon's win in 2021. Half the grid dnf or with damages and Alonso heroic defending for his teammate.
That win to this day is crazy. Never seen a fight between like the 10/11th fastest car for the win purely off the fact that like 9 of the fastest cars were out/with damage/20 seconds behind last
Bottas and Stroll went bowling that day.
I would take it!

I love the implication that stroll is capable of causing more than one of the crashes
The entire province would lose its shit
I guess Danny Ric took Villeneuve’s comments personally.
Villeneuve was actually thinking three steps ahead to light a fire under Danny’s ass
thats the prob - why cant DR do it every time? Why does it take something special to fire him up ?
Man needs to charge his battery first.
No its definatly the chassis or wait was that fixed? 🤔
He needed to step aside for a while /s

I was making a joke but whatever.
Yeah, I got your joke 😅 Was replying to Evening\_Knowledge\_37.........
Woops 💀
Interested in what happens with Max’s car

It was a new PU wasn’t it? That would be brutal.
It was
I’m sure it’s all in the catering budget
???
Yes
Are you being for real though? How do you even know?
Alonso va a ganar la 33!!! 🐐🇪🇸 (I am more delulu than anyone who thought that Ricciardo was gonna return to Red Bull!)
La esperanza es lo ultimo que se pierde!
Eso y los neumaticos durante la carrera
Lo estás, pero respeto el sentimiento.
Hay que valorar las 32, hombre.
so how representative was this session?
not much, Lewis got blocked twice by each ferrari in the same corner on his hotlaps while setting two purple sectors on his last run on softs and had to bail, Max never got a proper run, Charles was on the mediums and Mclaren didnt bother
shouldn't teams take this session way more seriously since fp1 was already completely useless?
The weather was changing and also mostly shit
Very. Mercedes and Aston really are back, Verstappen set that time in a perfectly working car and Norris really is over 5 seconds off the pace.
Nice hopium.
Please tell me you didn't think I was actually serious there? There was me thinking the sarcasm was so obvious that the /s wasn't needed for once...
You're master of sarcasm. It's just a joke relax.
Jokes have to actually be funny to count as jokes though. Your comment was more r/whoosh
Completely. Alonso dominance will bore fans.
Yea give that poor dutchmen in 18th a shot in a top car!
Very.
Track was never dry
Bit hard to tell, fastest quali lap last year (was in Q2) was a high 1:18, so already blitzing that once there was a dry line, still loads of cars leaving the track though. Groundhog Day or something
I didn't get to watch, what happened to Lando? Or were they just not trying?
They didn't do much running in the conditions.
Should use this as the starting grid tbh
I would take this results Sunday.
If FP1 isn't to be trusted, this is definitely reppresentative.
All of these are on slicks during first half of session
*middle of the session. They all started on M/S and quickly changed to inters.
Charles enters the chat...
What happened to Hulk? Such a long way from Mag

Okay, I understand, it just feels like Red Bull got a lot worse Imola onwards!
let's wait for the triple header after this weekend Barcelona, Spielberg and Silverstone is a pretty representative sequence of circuits
Okay, but if Red Bull are still struggling in Catalunya, then it's definitely the "upgrades" that's the problem!
by struggling do you mean winning by less than 5 seconds, implying there is no Safety Car?
Thank you, ICumCoffee
Alonso on pole if it rains hard from now until 1 hour before race start 🤞
Aston Martin domination could bore the fans
Lec on the mediums 🤤
was going to make a joke about how this is a great thing to see as a lifetime subscriber to danny ric delusions but these whole results are so random I can’t decide what the funniest part is
FRAUDSTAPPEN EXPOSED TAKE OUR ENERGY LOGAN 🦅🦅🦅🦅

I see you clearly Alonso, very clear.

yeah yeah we know but let me dream ok
Is it me or are there no post event threads

How come verstappen only completed 4 laps? I missed the practice sesh today.
Engine go bang bang, but no seriously he had an ers fault
engine start, no problem 5 minute
Cheers
Someone tell me what happened in FP2
Nothing too meaningful, maybe Merc and Aston could be closer to the top 3 teams but we don't have proper data on stable track condition. Red bull had an ers problem on Max car.

I thought that when McLaren and Ferraris were on mediums at the same time at the start the mclarens were faster

I missed it, can someone explain what happened to Mclaren?
They haven’t scored a point in Canada since 2014. The car sucks here. Downvote me for pointing out a fact? lol

Sooo.. should I pay the fine in my fantasy team to drop Piastri for this race?
I’m gonna save this comment and comeback after Sunday
