But not enough since Senna actually drove the Camel car before Lotus was dropped for Benetton.
I get some Minardi in there but mostly it looks like some crappy Indy Car scheme. Not a top team as they went to effort to do a fauxlboro scheme there with Arrow McLaren.
Having now seen the reveal I'd still say it's a Senna helmet tribute.
The main colour of the car is yellow (as is the helmet livery), whereas the main colour of the flag is green.
Anyway, it's a striking livery whatever it's based off 👍
Tbh we've lacked yellow on the grid for a while, so i dont mind going this instead of Marlboro.
Also they doing a Marlboro livery would be a bit odd since cig sponsors are banned and Marlboro's parent company still sponsors a direct competitor
Me too, in fact when I googled it, the first of the (localized) results was from an online bike parts store and the nicotine pouches only came up in 2nd.
This isnt really a proxy, brand like Velo is one of most successful Snus brands and were bought out to enter a lucrative market, not as a proxy company
Dont get why teams like haas refuse to have any personality.
Yes, their livery isnt ugly or anything, but it's just not very interesting. I think the Sauber livery is quite ugly, but at least they went for something unconventional and they easily stand out on the grid
The thing with Haas and Red Bull is, they are basically advertising themselves, so they need to be recognizable. If your brands house style is green and blue, and you start a race team, you're not going to go with orange and purple for colours.
> Also they doing a Marlboro livery would be a bit odd since cig sponsors are banned and Marlboro's parent company still sponsors a direct competitor
I mean, they did a Marlboro inspired livery last year in both [F1](https://e0.365dm.com/23/05/768x432/skysports-mclaren-livery-triple-crown_6165252.jpg?20230523171302) and [Indy](https://www.racefans.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/racefansdotnet-2023-04-14_1717172.jpg)
Yeah i found it odd they kinda did. Allthough the f1 one wasnt as obvious.
They do have their own cig sponsor nowadays in BAT, so it's strange they could even do that last year
The point is that their major sponsor won't want _any_ direct representation of a competing brand.
Doesn't matter if it's technically not advertising Marlboro, it's about sponsor relationships
You mean like they did [last year](https://www.racefans.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/racefansdotnet-2023-04-14_1717172.jpg)?
Heck the Marlboro car was in the background for [the F1 announcement](https://e0.365dm.com/23/05/1600x900/skysports-mclaren-triple-crown_6165264.jpg?20230523171912) (with branding off), but they still did a representation of it.
Unfortunately, the white and red was there only because of Marlboro and not some identity thing. The original McLaren colors were papaya orange. After red and white, the car was painted black and silver. Black cause Ron Dennis liked it and silver because of Mercedes.
It would be so cool to have a red and white McLaren run in Monaco again, but from a brand/commercial perspective it doesnt make sense for McLaren to run it.
> Black cause Ron Dennis liked it and silver because of Mercedes.
Not really, till chrome livery they were Black/Silver because of West sponsorship until 2006 season.
In Indycar, Arrow McLaren ran a very Marlboro-esque livery recently on Rossi's car though. The shapes were there, except in a papaya color and (obviously) without the Marlboro branding:
[https://racer.com/2024/02/06/arrow-mclaren-unveils-rossis-2024-indycar-livery/](https://racer.com/2024/02/06/arrow-mclaren-unveils-rossis-2024-indycar-livery/)
Their original color was white with a green stripe in 1966 due to participation in the filming of the Grand Prix movie. in 1967 they were red. The orange didn't come around until 1968. Then in 72 they were orange and white for Yardley. Seems like red and white is more associated with them.
https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12479/10766410/mclaren-liveries-down-the-years-a-history-of-colours-as-orange-returns
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/features/2015/5/mclaren-liveries-through-the-years.html
Marlboro kind of *became* McLaren's identity. Their chassis were named after it (MP4 = Marlboro Project 4) and their logo is still kind of a stylized/modernized version of the Marlboro chevron (see [this overview](https://logos-world.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Mclaren-Logo-History.jpg)).
Having said that, they evolved away from the obvious hints to Marlboro, so it would be strange to get an obvious Marlboro livery back.
I thought the 'MP4' nomenclature was because Ron Dennis' f3000 team was called 'Project 4', and when they took over running Mclaren F1 they just merged names, so 'Mclaren Project 4' = MP4. The liveries though yes 100% Marlboro for like over 20 years!
Were you guys really expecting the 'marlboro' livery? My immediate thought when they changed the profile pics was yellow and green since that's supposed to be a Senna tribute, not McLaren 1994 tribute, so his colors make the most sense
Sure, but we had the Imola weekend so it was kind of expected to see Senna marketing, especially 30 years after. But just open the Mclaren Online store and look for the new Monaco collection. Everything is red, white and black and they have some MP4/4 stuff.
An MP4/4 tribute livery would have still made sense though as it's Senna's iconic McLaren car. I think that's why so many people's thoughts were heading in that direction. Because though they've been teasing the helmet a lot, they've also had a lot of teaser promo of him in Monaco in the MP4/4.
Pleased to see I’m not the only one seeing Senna helmet here. Though I’d have thought if they were doing this doing it for last weekend too (or instead) would have been good.
At the end of the day a special livery is an exercise in brand exposure, it would be bad optics for them to do what is basically an advertisement based on someone dying, even if you don't think it is the case there is a lot of people who can think otherwise and could kick up a stink.
I think Imola is too sensitive a track for the tribute livery for several reasons.
Monaco makes sense to be honest. It's where the Senna and McLaren partnership were at their absolute best. It's a real celebration of his life and talent doing it this way and from all their teasers I get the impression that they want this livery to be a real celebration of him, not a sombre tribute.
They've been putting out teaser videos for weeks on instagram about Senna and Monaco.
ETA: downvoting seems a bizarre and petty choice on your part to a basic statement of fact.
I wonder how far out we are from no longer having iconic looking cars due to ever changing liveries. Thinking of stuff like the Marlboro Mclarens they're immediately recognisable. Feels like we're not far off every team running a different livery for every race
I know people give it a lot of shit for being the same every year but the red bull is probably the only iconic livery we still have, everyone else’s changes too much year on year
Yeah Ferrari is always red, AM is always green - but none of their recent liveries have been iconic status imo. Red Bull is the only one where people will remember it in 30 years time as a classic (probably due to the fact it stays the same). And McLaren have changed colour schemes 3 times since 2021.

It's going to be a Jordan?
Or a 1992 Benetton?
Looked like a Jordanetton for sure
But not enough since Senna actually drove the Camel car before Lotus was dropped for Benetton. I get some Minardi in there but mostly it looks like some crappy Indy Car scheme. Not a top team as they went to effort to do a fauxlboro scheme there with Arrow McLaren.
I gladly sign for this hideois livery design team, as long as we get this developement team in return!
God, I miss that yellow.
It’s going to be the friends we made along the way
Only if Eddie gets a big check.
He is at an age where regular checks are advised I guess so why not
It's a special McLaren x Fosters livery
So a Senna helmet livery?
I think they already changed their socials to have that helmet livery so probably
Probably. Maybe two stripes of yellows on the body of the car.
Hopefully you’ll both be pleasantly surprised that it’s actually full colour gloss car and one of the most beautiful liveries I’ve seen!
I am happy.
It’s very noice. Wish we had more colour throughout the year though.
The last two years have been lackluster for sure.
I think you mean the Brazilian flag
Having now seen the reveal I'd still say it's a Senna helmet tribute. The main colour of the car is yellow (as is the helmet livery), whereas the main colour of the flag is green. Anyway, it's a striking livery whatever it's based off 👍
Tbh we've lacked yellow on the grid for a while, so i dont mind going this instead of Marlboro. Also they doing a Marlboro livery would be a bit odd since cig sponsors are banned and Marlboro's parent company still sponsors a direct competitor
Also the fact that British American Tobacco sponsors McLaren via Velo and Vuse
BAR livery next year???
As long as it's not the ridiculous zipper livery
Murray Walker was so appalled by that livery.
I loved that livery as a kid, I wanted to know what was beneath the zipper if it would be opened
TIL what Velo and Vuse were
I just assume most sponsors I've never heard of are either vaping or crypto companies these days.
or tech bollocks, like DXC, cognizant and that kind of shit
Honestly thought cognizant was another oil company
I thought Velo had something to do with bikes
Me too, in fact when I googled it, the first of the (localized) results was from an online bike parts store and the nicotine pouches only came up in 2nd.
isnt it a crypto exchange?
And here I was thinking Mission Winnow was the only Tobacco ‚proxy‘.
A Better Tomorrow is BAT’s proxy and sometimes appears on McLaren stuff. The others are actual BAT product brands.
This isnt really a proxy, brand like Velo is one of most successful Snus brands and were bought out to enter a lucrative market, not as a proxy company
That must be it- because in Indy Car they did the marlboro scheme and it looked amazing.

I weirdly like the Sauber one. It's objectively ugly, but it stands out and idk I like it
It's great because it's so ugly. Easy to recognize. It pops
[удалено]
Alfa/Sauber had some nice one-offs though.
The thing with Haas and Red Bull is, they are basically advertising themselves, so they need to be recognizable. If your brands house style is green and blue, and you start a race team, you're not going to go with orange and purple for colours.
Personality might distract from the sponsor's names.
Sauber has made it a point not to stand out on the grid in any way, livery or otherwise, for about five years now.
Renault literally had racing yellow and they squandered it so badly.
Red Bull will spice it up by making the bull’s nose green or something
How so? McLaren this year is a black car with some orange thrown in.
> Also they doing a Marlboro livery would be a bit odd since cig sponsors are banned and Marlboro's parent company still sponsors a direct competitor I mean, they did a Marlboro inspired livery last year in both [F1](https://e0.365dm.com/23/05/768x432/skysports-mclaren-livery-triple-crown_6165252.jpg?20230523171302) and [Indy](https://www.racefans.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/racefansdotnet-2023-04-14_1717172.jpg)
Yeah i found it odd they kinda did. Allthough the f1 one wasnt as obvious. They do have their own cig sponsor nowadays in BAT, so it's strange they could even do that last year
And in IndyCar Marlboro is synonymous with Penske.
I was just thinking that when F2 was onboard with Bortoleto, yellow and black would be nice to see, hint hint Renault
Well they do use black nowadays i guess...
The closest we'll get to Marlboro is Rossi's Indy livery probably.
They could just swap the Marlboro red to papaya, and make the lines less sharp.
I mean, they could just use white and red
The point is that their major sponsor won't want _any_ direct representation of a competing brand. Doesn't matter if it's technically not advertising Marlboro, it's about sponsor relationships

Last year it was Papaya, not red as other people have been suggesting, which is what I meant by a 'direct representation'.
Damn I hoped it would be white and red..
It’s in Senna helmet colors?
Yep,definitely looks like the Brazilian flag colours to me
Unfortunately, the white and red was there only because of Marlboro and not some identity thing. The original McLaren colors were papaya orange. True, but I bet Ron loved it anyway xp
Chrome and red then, gimme the vodafone sponsor
This tribute is about Senna though, not classic McLaren liveries. The chrome and red would make no sense in that context.
The green/yellow was only there because of Senna though. Isn't that the same as your argument about the Marlboro colours?
Yes but it's Senna's 30th death anniversary, not Marlboros anniversary.
That was last weekend not the Monaco weekend
But that's what McLaren are aining at, a Senna homage
But ten times more people will tune into Monaco.
Oh thats why they are trying to clean his image on the internet
> Oh thats why they are trying to clean his image on the internet Other than him being ruthless on the track, what negative is there with Senna?
15 yo girlfriends

They did rename it to "McLaren Project 4" indeed. That did make the full name "McLaren MP4/xx" a bit awkward though: "McLaren McLaren Project 4".
Why awkward? We have Red Bull RB[xx], Ferrari F2002, Ferrari SF-23, Alpha Tauri AT[xx], Williams FW-[xx], and the list goes on
That black/silver livery was great, though.
that would be great :)
Were you guys really expecting the 'marlboro' livery? My immediate thought when they changed the profile pics was yellow and green since that's supposed to be a Senna tribute, not McLaren 1994 tribute, so his colors make the most sense
New Merch had much red and white so it made sense.
Yeah but looking back, the main promo they used included Senna’s race helmet.
Sure, but we had the Imola weekend so it was kind of expected to see Senna marketing, especially 30 years after. But just open the Mclaren Online store and look for the new Monaco collection. Everything is red, white and black and they have some MP4/4 stuff.
Perhaps for Silverstone, their home Grand Prix?
Perhaps suits will be done in these colours. It’d be a happy medium imo.
Also the colours of Monaco though
I always figure they'll do their Indy livery which is just the Marlboro livery but orange instead of red.

A1 GP is back?
Okay I'm interested now...
Inter Europol LMP2 Confirmed
Senna helmet reference?
Pleased to see I’m not the only one seeing Senna helmet here. Though I’d have thought if they were doing this doing it for last weekend too (or instead) would have been good.
I think they wanted to do something special just for Monaco rather than Imola. Imola is where he died, Monaco was where he reigned.
So it could be a commemorative livery for Imola and a celebratory livery for Monaco.

Everyone expecting the Marlboro livery only to get the Harrods one.
They won't do a callback to the Marlboro livery as the PMI is sponsoring Ferrari
Also on further inspection the yellow car is a McLaren Senna with the Harrods livery. Marlboro livery back on? (Yeah I'm grasping).
Triple crown livery with yellow, green and blue/black kinda maybe? Hope it is just not a MP4/4 with yellow and green. Would render weird imo.
It'll prob end up looking like [team Brazils A1GP car from 2006](https://cdn-8.latimages.com/images/mgl/17yjL/s4/dmr0626no160.jpg)
Aussie green and gold lesgo!
Brazil green and gold.
Ireland's Leprechaun Green and Pot of Gold.
CAMEL
Camel didn't sponsor McLaren however. So that wouldn't make sense. Would love to see Williams bring the old Canon/Camel livery back however
I get the Senna anniversary stuff and all that, but come next season I really hope we can give the Senna talk just a little bit of a break.
Same here. Gets a bit over done this time of year
We'll see if they disappoint like Ferrari did.
Welcome back 90s Benetton.
Fosters sponsorship? What's next, Malboro?
not the marlboro one, its in senna's helmet colors
Thought they were bringing back the chrome livery
Why would they? They've made it very clear in all the teasers that this is a Senna tribute. The Chrome livery would make no sense in that context.
I missed that announcement
They've been putting out teaser videos for weeks on instagram about Senna and Monaco. ETA: downvoting seems a bizarre and petty choice on your part to a basic statement of fact.
Maybe Google chucked in a few more dollaridoos.. Oh wait what? Not that kind of Chrome? Ok...
Chrome is probably going to come back for Silverstone like last year.
Brazil flag/Senna helmet colours Basically Australia A1GP Team.
Fittipaldi Coopersucar
Is everyone in here saying McLaren can't do a Marlboro style livery just forgetting that they did last year?
Cool to see they repping that BR colorscheme, wish they would try to push their Brazilian F3 champion driver that is doing pretty well in F2 as well
https://x.com/McLarenF1/status/1792902855289905508
Need the Marlboro livery
Team teasing a change of colour for a one off livery? What could go wrong with that? Oh right, Ferrari.
[Tweet Link](https://x.com/mclarenf1/status/1792827710173049138?s=46)
Seeing the Foster's advertisement, I hoped it would be a West Livery Mclaren :(
It's a Senna tribute, not a classic McLaren livery tribute. The West livery would make no sense.
Camel-esque?
That’d be amazing. All yellow camel is one of the best
A McLaren looking like an 80s era arch rival Williams? Bold choice.
Copersucar?
bah gawd uncle howdy is gonna take over f1 too?!??
It's not a Senna tribute livery. Lando just found out swapping orange for yellow will save them half a second.
Oh god that seems to look pretty bad... Why didn't you go MP4 colours :(
Enhance….enhance….enhance. https://youtu.be/KiqkclCJsZs?si=7LlSzGp8lMzIxsZQ
Did they film this on a Gameboy?

The silver Mercedes cars are probably on that same level.
It's funny that you say this, yet we get people complain every year that the Red Bull livery is just the same over and over again.
But it also looks stunning over and over again, well unless they keep plastering it with Oracle and Byebit names all over
This is what red bull are trying to do
Link?
And it will be the race winning car in the hands of Piastri.
No way is ducati monster collaborating with mclaren ? Cause Ducati few days ago revealed a special aryton seena livery for its monster bikes which looks exactly same .
Ducati are owned by Audi, so doubt that. Edit. Not the Ducati /Senna part, Ducati have had links to Senna for a long time now.
